It was only noon, and the food already looked like it had been sitting out for quite some time. The selection at both the hot and cold bars did not look particularly appealing. There were a couple of meat dishes that might have been tempting, but the meat on top of the sauce was visibly dried out and looked like it had not been properly tended to. The employees should be stirring the dishes regularly and making sure the meat stays covered with sauce so that it looks fresh and appetizing. I was actually very hungry, but after looking over the options, there was nothing from either the hot or cold bar that I wanted to eat, so I ended up leaving without getting anything. For a store like Gelson's, I expected the prepared food bars to be much better maintained. The fact that it was only noon and the food already looked this dried out and unappealing was especially disappointing. Hopefully they can pay more attention to the presentation, freshness, and overall care of the food bars.

I'd asked my roommate to pick up a couple of containers yesterday. She checked 4 stores and they were out. I'd heard Albertson's had a good one so I called up the store in Dana Point. Much to my surprise, Richard, the manager answered the phone. What?! Usually a cashier or service associate answers. Anyway I asked him about the dip. He then asked if I wanted their in-house freshly made dip or the ready made prepared one. Wait. What!? You mean I have a choice? He said they were out of the prepared but would see what was in stock, He came back 2 minutes later and asked if I wanted the small or large containers. I was really getting happy about the way the call was going. He said he'd hold them for me under my name. These were not big ticket items but he went above and beyond what most stores would do!
