Came in on a Sunday evening and we were seated immediately as half the place was empty. It's pretty small inside but has a cozy feel. I appreciated that it wasn't super loud. We were promptly tended to by our waiter who recommended a few things. We started with the garlic truffle edamame which was good but doused in a lot of oil. Took our waiter's recommendations and ordered the crispy onion roll and baked lobster roll, which were really fresh and tasted great, but the spicy salmon roll (as simple as it is) was my favorite. Tried the salmon nigiri as well which was pretty standard. Service was quick and very friendly. The prices however are pretty high. Better quality than chain restaurant sushi for sure, but that didn't justify 2x the price for me. Parking was also hard to find as they share a small lot with a few other businesses (street parking is your best bet). Overall good experience but not somewhere I would frequent. read more

(Dined 03/14/15 SA @ 3:30pm): Their promotional coupon was effective on this longtime marketer! My parents knew me so well when they gave me a couple coupons from a recent Penny Saver for a new sushi joint in Glendale called Moto Sushi (opened only about seven weeks from this date http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=CeCpcHMbHLYMiWjZ-Z_3vg). I loved saving money, sushi, and supporting my hometown, so timing was perfect as I ran errands around town and ended with a virginal stop here. Today, I used a "free roll with any main entrée purchase" coupon. How did the newest sushi kid in town do!?: Yam Tempura Hand Cut Roll ($4.95) - I've never had this type of roll before, but it intrigued me because it was basically a sweet potato fries hand cut roll...and I loved sweet potato fries! With this 8-piece cut roll, simplicity was at its best, and you truly didn't want to ruin it with the standard soy sauce and wasabi dipping mixture. The salmon was very moist and easily broke apart with my chopsticks and nearly melted in my mouth. I was immediately given a menu and a glass of water, and took my time to decided what I wanted to order with my "free roll with any main entrée order" coupon. After I finally ordered, I received my entire meal about ten minutes later. My server checked on me and filled my water glass regularly. When it was obvious I was done and I declined dessert, my bill came out quickly but was told to take my time. A great job! Parking (Free) - Located in a small strip mall, they shared a somewhat tight parking lot with four other businesses. Otherwise, there was plenty of parking along the main drag of Pacific Ave. and surrounding streets (please be mindful of posted signs for any restrictions). There were no TVs but I enjoyed the indie rock background music (i.e. Arcade Fire, Belle & Sebastian). Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, it's not like Glendale needed ANOTHER sushi restaurant, but Moto Sushi was a nice find and a good addition to this part of town which seemed to lack of any. The food was generally good, the service great, and the prices were competitive. I didn't notice if they had an all-day discounted price like my favorite place Ichiban (also in Glendale), nor did I notice a happy hour or even any alcohol for that matter (I MUST have Sopporo or sake with my sushi!). Plus, I'm always irked by the price difference between hand-cut versus hand-roll like cash versus credit at gas stations. I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total bill was around $30.00 before discount and tip). I was excited to see the grand opening of a sushi place I can walk to. Sorely needed. But, there are a lot of kinks to resolve. We arrived, the place was not full, and it's a small place. We like to see the fresh fish, get to know the chefs a little....which is often de rigeur when you sit at the bar, not a table. Service took forever. Unlike some places where you sit at the bar, the chefs do not take your order. They don't even smile and say hi. We sat there just staring at industrial size saran wrap, kirkland salt sitting on the counters. The squid was too salty. The blue crab roll is orange and tastes dry as bread crumbs. Tastes worse than canned crab. The vegetable tempura was okay except for the broccoli which tasted mealy. We ordered the sushi premium platter which lists yellowtail as one of the nigiri you get -- but we didn't. We had to ask the chef to fix that. That is not cool, switch and bait. That said, the uni was good. At salty places you need water, I had to get up and get the pitcher of water because our waitress was in the kitchen having a tete a tete with two cooks forever. At the very end, a different server asked us if we liked our food, if we wanted to box our leftovers, if this was our first time, et al. No, if we couldn't stomach it now, we're not going to eat it later. Since she asked, we told her what we liked, what we didn't, and she says oh well, maybe next time. This new sushi restaurant is the salvation that I've been looking for. Since I moved to Glendale I have been relentlessly trying every sushi spot I can to find some real, fresh, authentic sushi. Well, I've found it...and completely by accident too! This location is really close to HK Market. Let's start with the prices. They're not cheap. When compared to my other favorite sushi restaurant Sushi Masu (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sushi-masu-los-angeles) the prices differ between 1-2 dollars per order of sushi. It's a spendy sushi place, but it's oh so worth it. The service was quick and friendly. My sushi chefs were polite and welcoming but the server is who stole the show. I wish I had caught her name so I could write it down, but she was excellent on the recommendations and educating me on what I was eating. The quality of the fish is impeccable. I ordered the dinner Maki Set 3 which came with 3 rolls and some miso soup. I had the Philadelphia, spicy salmon, and spicy shrimp tempura roll. All three were excellent. But what really stole my heart through my taste-buds was the Uni and Red Snapper. One word: wow. The Uni came with some fancy ginger that the waitress told me was "3 times more expensive". I believe her; it was really something else. My Uni was served atop some rice after being brushed with soy sauce and a fancy wasabi on top. IT WAS THE BEST UNI I'D EVER HAD! If you haven't tried this place yet, please do. But don't order a roll! Order some real sushi! Get some uni, redsnapper, halibut, and another uni for good measure. read more

Finally found a fairly good sushi place in the Glendale area...close to work too! The location is a bit odd; it is in an old and small strip mall, however when you walk into the restaurant, it is modern and very clean! It is a Korean-run sushi place. Came here on a Friday for lunch. We got the Agedashi tofu for the appetizer (this was not as great as other true Japanese places...they used firm tofu instead of soft tofu, and the sauce was too salty) For entrees, we ordered the lunch chirashi ($12.95) and lunch sushi combo ($12.95) Great lunch prices with perfect portions! The chirashi wasn't plated as nicely as other chirashi pictures that others posted, however the fish was fairly fresh. It came with salmon, yellowtail, halibut, tuna, eel, shrimp, egg, masago, and some marinated mushrooms. The furikake on the rice helped make it extra tasty! The sushi combo was a good portion...came with quite a few nigiris and a simple roll of your choice. read more

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would! I'm really picky with eating raw food, but Moto's sashimi was so freshly prepared and beautifully plated. They just reopened since the pandemic and do both delivery and dine-in. Definitely worth and gonna order again! read more

Came here for lunch one day to welcome some new hires to the team. Moto was not very memorable and is mostly a "roll" place. Food was fine, but nothing that knocked my socks off. Just your typical American style sushi rolls. There is a lot of fake crab meat and sauces that are served with the roles. Nobody got sick, which is always a good thing for a sushi restaurant, so I would happily go back. However, if I had a choice between that or just a Poke Bowl, I would clearly choose the Poke. read more

Once again, Yelp serves me well! I live close to this place so I'm so delighted I found such an awesome sushi spot close to home. Prices are reasonable, sushi is fresh and delicious, and service is friendly and great. Will definitely be a regular here!!! My friend enjoyed a cucumber salad while I had the seaweed salad ($4.95/ea). Then she had the rainbow roll ($13.95) which the wonderful server, Cindy, recommended. I feasted on the baked lobster roll which Cindy explained had less sugar that the baked rolls in other places. I prefer sushi less sweet and hadn't had a baked roll in a while, and I am very happy I ordered the lobster roll ($15.95). It had a lot of spicing which I mostly tasted in the form of black pepper which I loved. There are several rolls on the menu I look forward to trying so I will update this review later! read more

This place has lost their principles and quality. It used to be a good place- and descent prices. Now it's smaller portions, higher prices, poor quality - and if you happen to have good sushi- it's a good day for you, because it is hit or miss here and mostly it's been a miss!!! . I swear I'm so mad that's the only reason I'm even writing this review. I did a to-go order of 2 cut rolls because I didn't trust to order anything else. And thank god I did that. My rolls were so small- and I paid $50. Like you're not nobu to charge $24 a roll. Lol I will not give my business to them anymore. What a shame!!! I used to be a weekly customer here- close to home, good food and compatibile prices! Moto sushi- you're done for me! read more

Cozy little place tucked away in a strip in Glendale, but it's big in taste, freshness and service! They have several fresh-caught daily offerings and a large menu of tasty rolls. Parking can be tight. Enjoy! read more

I had heard amazing things about Moto Sushi so my husband and I decided to try and brought our 3 year old along too. It's a small cozy place with about 10-13 tables and a bar area. It took us about 20-30 minutes to get seated which is normal for a Saturday night. What really frustrated me and clearly others at the restaurant was you had to flag somebody down in order to be helped or ask a question. We waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive and it just wasn't that great considering how pricey each roll was. I might give it another chance but perhaps on a weekday read more

Moto is our go-to sushi spot! It's within walking distance, which definitely doesn't hurt, but I'll admit...I'm not a very seasoned sushi eater. I've tried a lot and am very picky/limited in what I like. Moto has such a great menu with so much that appeals to me and everything is delicious! read more

Must admit two things - 1) I'm spoiled by really good sushi, and 2) We come to Moto mainly because it is convenient. Over the years, I've tried most things on the menu, and I only order a roll now. Their rolls are, for me, the best bet. Not the best you've had, but decent. Their cucumber and seaweed salads are dressed too sweetly. Their grilled beef is over-cooked and should be avoided. Their udon is also over-cooked and mushy. While their fish for nigiri is fresh, it almost never has any flavor. Maybe they purchase less premium fish. Fish for sushi or sashimi is sold based on quality attributes including fattiness. Like most proteins, the best flavors come from the fat and fish is no different. That's why yellow tail from California is often less tasty. Service is usually very good, but tonight, not so much. Will not let inertia rule and start driving the few extra miles for better sushi. read more

I feel sad leaving this review. Been coming here for years, the food has always been fresh. After ownership changed, the quality of the sushi has not been the same. The hand rolls, uni, toro, and even the eel sushi tonight was not fresh at all. Please make sure you serve fresh sushi or else we will not be returning. read more

Decided to treat my friend out to sushi so Moto it was! It was our first time but it was definitely a good decision. When we stopped by, it was pretty empty and parking was easy to find in their tiny lot, but I'm sure that's not always the case. We ordered the ME 1 - Sushi, Sashimi, and Roll Set. All the fish pieces were super fresh and none were tainted by that questionable fishy taste or smell. For how many pieces it comes with it also came out surprisingly quickly. I kind of wish that you could at least choose what roll you want to come with the set but it's basically chef's choice. FYI: the menu says 34 pieces but that counts each individual roll piece. It's still a hefty amount of food for two people but probably not enough to support a party of 3 without ordering anything else. The service was satisfactory but unmemorable. Ultimately, great little hole in the wall sushi joint especially if you're looking for sushi in Glendale. Would definitely come back if I didn't feel like making the drive to LA. read more

many places to eat but this one is a must. The service was excellent, staff friendly. The food was great, very well prepared and delicious. The salad and seafood were fresh the teriyaki shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly. I would drive the 65 miles from home to here to eat there again. read more

The restaurant is a bit dimly lit, but it really adds to the cozy and upscale atmosphere. One thing I immediately noticed was how clean all of the grills were. We chose the AYCE option (around $55 per person), and the pricing for kids was very reasonable. Our 5-year-old was charged a reduced rate, while our 3-year-old ate free, which was a nice bonus for families. The selection of meats was excellent, with plenty of options to choose from. They do have a 90-minute dining limit and a surcharge for excessive leftovers, but that wasn't an issue for us because everything was delicious. The appetizer selection was surprisingly large. We enjoyed the beef fried rice, noodles, a sushi roll, crispy tofu, chicken karaage, and shiitake mushrooms. The crispy tofu turned out to be spicier than we expected, so just keep that in mind if ordering for kids. However, spice lovers will probably enjoy it! The chicken karaage was a huge hit with the kids, especially with the spicy mayo on the side. The shiitake mushrooms were also incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned. We also ordered crispy rice spicy tuna, we loved it too! What really stood out was the service. Every server we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Instead of simply dropping off food and walking away, they took time to check in, ask how we were doing, and connect with us. That personal touch made the experience feel special. We only ordered water since we had already had plenty of drinks earlier in the day, but they offer a variety of beverages as well. For dessert, we tried the mochi ice cream special--two for $5--which was a fantastic deal. In San Diego, it's common to pay around $5 for just one mochi ice cream, so we were pleasantly surprised. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and are so happy we chose Oku-Niku for my birthday celebration. Great food, excellent service, a family-friendly atmosphere, and a memorable dining experience.
