Coffee & concept. My dad was a car buff. This is something that he passed on to me, but without my even being aware of it. From car shows to boutique car washes, he instilled an appreciation for the automobile that has stuck with me to this day. Neat trick. Throughout his life, my dad owned a myriad of cars. He always had 2, then it became 3 cars, simultaneously. His car, the family car, then something indulgent & sporty. The first car I remember was the Javelin. It was powder blue. Then, there was a Magnum that was a solid part of my childhood. Ditto for an El Camino. But the hands down favorite was undeniably the Jensen Healey. The Jensen took over the 3rd car spot in the arsenal & it's the only one he never sold & replaced. No doubt it is the Jensen that is responsible for my love of convertibles. I've owned 2, & that Jensen Healey? It is mine today. Now you understand how a business like Motoring Coffee is going to raise my antennae. Not for the "gimmick" or novelty, but for the sheer feat of pulling at the car strings in me. I couldn't wait to try this place. The smell. That showroom smell is here & it is fabulous. As advertised, there's a car that they showcase right smack in the middle of the space. On our first visit, it was a gorgeous vintage Porsche. The showcased car is traded out regularly, & it is for sale. The price is not listed, you'll need to inquire. But, yes. You can come in for a cappuccino, & walk out the proud owner of a new car. I had read about their grand SF opening online, so I came in with a specific drink in mind. But when I ordered it, I was told that that particular drink is on the menu at their L.A. shop, but not here. I immediately recovered from the surprise of a drink that was promoted in an article I'd read actually not being available (I mean, come on), & I ordered an oat milk vanilla latte instead. It was fine, albeit unremarkable. There's a thousand places to get a latte in this town. The coffee is not the draw here; it's everything else... Like the car club. There's a room in the back that is on view thanks to floor to ceiling windows, but it is only accessible to members. Of course I briefly contemplated joining, & I'll revisit that idea again I'm sure. How fun. Bringing coffee enthusiasts & car enthusiasts together. This is not a completely new concept; there's a place in soma that does this with motorcycles. But for cars, it's about darn time. Almost every aspect of this business is 5 stars. The concept, the space, the scent, the aesthetic...even the service. But the coffee, or rather, the espresso game in SF is something fierce. Cute cafe with a rotating feature car on display inside. I usually see long lines when I pass by in the afternoon, but there was no line at 7:40am on a Sunday. There are a few seats & tables inside, and some people were working on their laptops. We tried two of the specialty drinks - I liked the Redline (a lightly spiced hot cappuccino with a smoky finish), but thought the Traction Control (Nekohama matcha latte with housemade blueberry syrup) was a bit too sweet. Great coffee but not a lot of seats available. They have their regular menu full of your regular drinks and seasonal specials. I went for the outer sunset cold brew. It came with orange syrup and a vanilla cold foam. A solid drink. Not too sweet. The foam cuts the acidity of the orange. Very balanced. Would come back and try other drinks. However, will most likely be getting takeout as seats were hard to get. They also have a little section that sells merch, which is pretty cute and kills a little bit of time while you wait for the restroom. read more

I went here a while back later in the afternoon. I ordered an iced mocha but didn't make it in time to get pastries. I was able to find a seat in the pickup truck the cafe placed a slab over. I didn't wait too long for my drink and stayed at this cafe to write in my journal. There were others working on their laptops so it seems this is a place where people can get work done. In regard to the coffee, it was alright tasted like an iced mocha was supposed to. read more

This place is certainly vibey with the cool car decor, and there's some seats but it's always insanely full on the weekend and just way too cramped. Happened to be in SF and passed this cute coffee shop. My niece said she saw it on TikTok and wondered why I haven't seen it. Lots of space for people to work. Really good coffee and chai. The cars and decor is super cool. The only comment is that when we walked in, it felt like the patrons were judging us. I can't describe how, but it felt very elitist. I was around the Marina and decided to check out Motoring Coffee after seeing how cool the ambience was. The space is really unique since they have vintage cars displayed inside. Came here after seeing it on social media for the longest time, and the aesthetic definitely outshines their drinks by a long shot. We came at around 1pm and there was a line out the door, but it moved pretty quickly. We got a hot and iced matcha latte with oat milk and simple syrup. We appreciate that there was no upcharge for alternative milk, and were told that we could also do vanilla or honey to sweeten our matcha. Both of our matchas were extremely milky, and had little to no matcha flavor. We couldn't finish the whole thing because it felt like we were just drinking oat milk. The ambiance is cute and retro inside, and as someone who isn't the biggest coffee fan, that is the only saving grace for this place. I do not plan on returning. read more

I was excited to finally stop at Motoring Coffee on a sunny Sunday and loved the drinks and ambiance. I got the orange espresso spritz and my friend got the matcha mojito. The matcha mojito was super refreshing with the limeade and not too sweet. The vibe is super unique and fun with antique cars and even plane seats to sit in. I had time to kill before a pilates class, so I entered into this cafe and instantly was drawn into the vibes! I loved seeing the motor art and vintage cars in the back. Though, inside was still packed with folks and most seats were taken. But let's face it, we're all here to take a look at the gorgeous 1970s BMW (at least on the day that I went it was) and the 80-90s Honda Acty truck that's now conveniently converted into a hybrid cafe desk. I loved everything about the interior setup - from the atypical seat arrangement to playful furnitures like the iconic Ikea green Dyvlinge swivel chair to seats you'll see on an airplane. Also very considerate to have standing bar tables for a quick grab and go. Oh right, about the coffee. For a boujee aesthetic coffee shop, the coffee was actually good -gasp-, I know, shocker. But I'm glad b/c I feel like we need more of these types of coffee shops around! Lastly, don't forget to check out their merchandise section in the back. This place has a great ambiance, and I'm highly tempted to get a membership to have access to the rest of the office space to work from home. Since it was recently my first time here, I went for my go to: Espresso Tonic, 8/10 - this was pretty solid. I was pretty wired for the rest of the day haha There's a moderate amount of seating and some standing table areas available. I would say there are better places to study or do work, but I would stop in again if I was in the area. I'll have to come try a different drink next time. read more

Went on a weekday morning and it wasn't super super busy. I love how the back of the truck was a table and found out they rotate featured cars on display, which is pretty cool!! I do think the chair is a little bit too high for that table. There aren't a lot of seatings and they do fill up quickly!! They also have a gift shop section filled with clothes and other cool items. We got the hot mocha, iced chai latte, and hot vanilla latte. It was okay, nothing special. Don't really recommend the chai latte, it tasted a bit watered down. I do like that they don't charge extra for milk alternatives. Overall, this is a good place to either socialize/catch up or to study. Vibes and ambiance 5/5! Very cool, spacious interior with cars and car-themed decorations. Giving my drink a 4/5. I got an outer sunset matcha which was pretty unique. I've never had matcha with both orange syrup and vanilla cold foam before, so it was an interesting combo that ended up working out well. The orange taste was very subtle, only got a tiny hint in one sip. Drink was sweet and creamy which is what I personally prefer! Solid Marina coffee stop, and definitely a cool environment! Motoring is a fun place to hang and catch up with a friend, or do some work (there is wifi and there are a few outlets but not all tables have them). I've had a matcha and latte there both of which are decent. Definitely not the best I've ever had though. One wish I have is that they offered different sizes, but I will say their prices comparatively are fair, much less than a $9 latte elsewhere. In sum, come for the cool decor and a casual place to catch up, but coffee snobs beware! But I will likely be back myself. read more

Came on a Saturday morning and there was a line out the door. Waited around 15 minutes. The inside was very cute with all of the cars inside. There's a good amount of seating but not as much as you'd expect. I was quite excited to try their coffee. I got an iced vanilla latte and was sadly disappointed. The espresso just wasn't bold and feels on par with Starbucks. On the plus side, they do not charge extra for any milk changes which is hard to find these days. Ordered an iced matcha latte, I love that you can ask for a milk alternative with no extra charge! My matcha latte lacked a bit of matcha flavor. This review is a cumulative review of about 4 times I have been here this year. Drinks: The drinks are delicious. I would not recommend the mocha latte since it was my least favorite (however, I only tried it once and perhaps it was a bad day so I will try it some other time again). Their vanilla latte is an absolute favorite and I NEVER get them. But they really make it good here, you can taste the vanilla bean and how it is home made. I add some cinnamon on top and it is chefs kiss. ONE BIG BIG BIG PLUS is that they have NO UP CHARGE FOR ALT MILK!!!! And they use a good oat milk, a barista blend. If you have a sweet tooth, get their cold foam. It has a subtle frosting taste but not in a bad way, it is delicious. (I have never tried their pastries, but they look fine). Recommendation for Drinks: "Hi, can I please get an iced vanilla oat milk latte, half sweet." (**MAKE SURE TO PUT YOUR NUMBER FOR POINTS**) OR iced oat milk matcha latte, unsweetened OR iced oat milk matcha latte w/ cold foam. Service: Ok service is just what I would expect. It is not like woah, I would come back for the service. If I had to reduce their service tendencies to one word I would say "plain." They don't smile but they don't give a bad vibe either, they wait for you to order patiently but they don't give recommendations, they move efficiently through a long line but they don't necessarily make sure all patrons are in an orderly fashion. I mean, its fine I don't mind it. Ambiance: This is the PULL. They are known for their luxury and vintage cars. I love it that they have this like pick up truck thing with like a table in the back. Plentyyy of seating including airline chairs, tables, a stand-up bar, outside seating. There is free internet, although I hate it how it disconnects every like hour or two and you have to reconnect. Not a deal breaker just a bit annoying. They also close later than other cafes in the area so I really like that as well. One thing though, their bathrooms tend to be messy and stinky. Not dirty, but messy. I like to give bathrooms some grace, so I will update next time I am here. There was just a lot of toilet paper on the ground, trash was full and paper towels were on the floor, it was stinky no air freshner around, there was toilet liners stuck inside the toilet, and it was just messy. I stumbled upon this place accidentally because I was doing my fingerprinting on the other side of the street. The ambiance is super unique and innovative, has high ceilings, and the windows are big. The place is playing between masculinity and earthly vibes. I like that they recycled the items in a car, they play around with their interior design. The menu is clear and simple, and the pastries are nicely showcased. The coffee area where baristas are working is also visible to everyone and they are neat. The service is warm and welcoming, though many of the customers are patrons and loyal customers. It's nice to see a friendly environment more like homey vibes. My husband was really looking forward to this spot because of the vehicles/motorcycles on display! The line was out the door so it had to be a popular spot. There were no empty seats whatsoever! It's in a busy area as well so it was tricky to find parking. Loved the cool vehicles and the merchandise section but it was just too crowded to fully appreciate. The line itself took a while to get through to order, but the wait for the drinks was much faster. We should have probably ordered a coffee drink but I wasn't a fan of their seasonal flavor profiles so I just ended up with a matcha latte. My husband ordered the Karl the Fog, not asking what it was, but turned out it was like an English tea latte! So we didn't end up getting coffee after all, and I was a bit skeptical, but both tea drinks were actually SO delicious!! I had to check out the viral cafe that displays cars inside as a car enthusiast. I drove to the city and finding parking was difficult near the cafe. The line was out the door on a Sunday morning. The line moved fairly quickly and we got our order in no time. They have merch and fresh coffee beans for sale. The hot mocha was really good and strong. This is one of many visits, and each time has been good. The Iced Matcha Latte is typically what I usually order, but I went with something new this time. The Iced Matcha is decent and never disappoints. They had the Outer Sunset which was an Orange themed cold brew. I'm a fan of the citrus flavored cold brew and try to get one whenever a coffee shop does a variation of it. The Outer Sunset was good as well, the Orange slice was a nice touch for sure. They don't charge extra for milk substitution!!! The interior is always nice, same Porsche on display each time. Their Club lounge is in the back, only for members. I believe the cars in there rotate. The little Acty truck in the back serves as a communal table with the wood plank as the top. The coolest thing about this place is the setup! I assume they rotate cars which is cool, there's a good amount of spots to study/do work at. This coffee spot is more on the chill side. The service was good. I would say the vanilla latte was solid nothing too special, however the iced matcha tasted very milky; I could barely taste the matcha at all. What a cool coffee shop, I love the car themed decor. They also sell some of their branded merch and other cute items. I went in the morning with a friend and ordered a latte and a pistachio raspberry crossiant. My friend and I really enjoyed our lattes, it tasted great. The crossiant was okay, wouldn't order again. Service was quick and friendly, even though they were steadily busy. We were able to find parking right in front and it looks like street parking is the only option, if you drive over here. Stopped by here while in the area!! I decided to try a new special drink they had that had a tea base with either matcha or espresso and then topped with a cold foam. I decided to try it with a matcha base and although it was a good drink, it's not something I'd get again just because it was more like a matcha lemonade with cold foam and that's not my vibe. I would definitely come back here again though! The interior was so cool and retro. I loved the cars and the seating!! They even had airplane seats you could sit and work on.
