When you walk in; what can I say; you have a live pine tree standing in front of you; complemented by beautiful skyline ' absolutely gorgeous. The space is incredible - really chill, good music in the background, high ceilings & vinyl records - good vibes. I ordered my Americano with a little bit of almond milk. Coffee was presented to me in a matching the vibe cup but the ratio of espresso and hot water was a little bit off; too strong like the cup was too small. The staff working there was not rude, but they were not friendly either. I can't really put my finger on it but it was as if they were kind of matching the vibe of the place. Very nonchalant. Every seat was taken in a middle of the day and one guy with his laptop was spread out at a table for four. Im glad that I checked out the place but I don't think I will be coming back. Ambiance: Hedge Coffee is a small coffee shop located in the mission district with both a small outdoor covered courtyard and limited wall seating on the left and standing on the right. The coffee shop has gentle ambient lightning and music inside the coffee shop itself. Wait time: Hardly any wait time when ordering drinks and no line though it can be crowded for indoor seating or outdoor courtyard seating as well. Service: The baristas are quick to make drinks as they are ordered and friendly with customers especially with any menu questions. Drink: The mocha was a good flavor while being hot but not to the point of scalding. The mocha had a strong rich coffee flavor with notes of chocolate and the steamed milk helped balance the flavors. What a beautiful space!! An open air courtyard led into another high ceiling room with sleek wood accents and a live DJ (!!!). It was crowded on a warm SF day, but the line went by quickly. Dog friendly too! Espresso + milk ($8 for 10oz): Perfect, no notes. Smooth, strong, and loved the taste! Fun hidden gem in the Mission, felt like I was in LA. I really like this place, it reminds me of a place in Tokyo. I think most things about this cafe are on point especially the esthetic. I would say the coffee and milk temp need a little bit of work. The milk was a little cold and the coffee was too young in my opinion. The apple tart was nice but it would be great if they could heat it. The sitting space with tables were nice and visually the cafe is just impressive. It seems as though a lot of money was poured into this place. Came by a Thursday at around 7:30AM. There was a short line and plenty of sitting available. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have some indoor and semi-outdoor sitting which is nice. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and a vanilla latte. Must say that I think the vanilla latte is amongst the top 3 I've tried in the city. Very creamy and the coffee itself was rich and not too acidic. The croissant was also great and paired paired perfectly with the coffee. Overall, will 100% be back to this spot! WOW probably the cafe with the best ambiance i've been to. Came here on a Tuesday morning at around 10am and the place was decently packed. This place has a beautiful modern wooden interior and a really nice vinyl display. They were also playing some relaxed house music that added to the vibe. I heard they have live DJs that come in on weekends, which i find to be pretty cool! The drinks themselves are solid but very pricey for what they are. I got the vanilla latte and it was a great latte but it was also $9. I'd say you're definitely paying more for the experience than for the drinks themselves. The service is good and attentive and there are a decent amount of seats inside and outside. Before I drank coffee I used to be so jealous of places like this. It looked like some secret club. And on the weekends, it quite literally feels like that with djs playing live! But all the hype and mood is backed by very good beans. Both the Kenyan and Ethiopian pour overs I tried were so smooth and bright. The batch Bolivian was quite good too! The employee who took our order let me try the batch and when she realized that there wasn't much left gave me the rest! So kind. And even besides the music etc, the space is really nice. This is a fantastic permanent location for Hedge coffee who I have enjoyed as a coffee cart at various events throughout the city. The now have a central location to showcase their roasting, coffee craft and dish out a great vibe. I've seen Hedge all over my social media for a while and it was packed when I went! The aesthetic of the place is very unique with a modern woody feel, with a tree as part of the design! There is not a lot of seating inside but there are some benches outside, although they are very hard to get with how many people come to the cafe. The coffee itself was much more expensive than other places which shocked me a little bit. I will say the coffee is really good, very smooth and flavorful, but for the price I don't think this would be my go to place for frequent visits, more of a treat. They had some pastries but didn't try them this time, maybe next time. I think it's a nice one time visit for me with no plans to seek out coming again but not opposed to coming back. read more

I'm not native to SF, nor am I incredibly familiar with its food scene, so I don't know what's a good price or not here lol. The coffee was good, and you can see it being made in front of you. The spiral was okay, but the group and I agree that it would've been better toasted or if there was a sort of jam in it (we suggest a caramelized onion jam). The inside is super nice, and they have a DJ playing some solid beats. It gets crowded pretty easily, and we came in to a line that went outside the building and wrapped towards the block. The vibe of their cafe is very modern with wood accents and there's a frigging whole ass tree in their entry way which is wildddd. It's definitely more of a social space and I wouldn't recommend working here as they don't have large tables and I think it's meant to be more of a chill vibey space. They have a DJ some days which is cool. For the drinks my one critque is that sometimes when it's busy, they prepare the tonic water and ice but it takes a couple minutes to get the espresso shot so the espresso tonic is not very fizzy and a lil watered down as a result. The espresso itself is good it's not too bitter or acidic imo and I love their cortados as they are very balanced. I now just get a cortado when their busy and an espresso tonic when they aren't. Overall, highly recommend! The music was loud enough to groove but also not too loud where you couldn't hear your friends talk. Saw some people reading and journaling here as well. Came here on a Saturday morning to kick start the day, and what a treat it was. Although the coffee shop was pretty busy with a line going onto the sidewalk, the experience beat the wait. It felt like we had discovered an underground scene with the dark, but natural elements contributing to a Japandi-like aesthetic, plus a DJ casually spinning jazzy vibes for everyone. Also, there are no neighboring stores, so it felt like an IYKYK situation for Hedge Coffee. I'm glad I now know. I ordered a flat white that brought me back to my favorite cups in Europe. Such an incredible coffee shop with a live DJ on the weekends! Hedge has been around for a while and congrats to them for opening up a beautiful space. The front is the coffee bar, not much seating and towards the back is the roasting process you can enjoy while waiting for your drink. I would say the most impressive and beautiful part of their coffee shop is the redwood tree at the exterior of their entrance that is now surrounded by benches. Need I say more about their coffee though? If you've had them before, you know their coffee is incredible and really good. With that said, their coffee does come at a higher price tag - but worth! The few times I've come I got my drink to go. But from my observation, the dine in seating situation is a first come first serve and you have to wait in line to get the next open table on the left hand side of the coffee bar. I was excited to visit Hedge Coffee's new brick and mortar location after having tried their mobile coffee cart a few times when my company brought them in for special occasions. I had heard from some of the baristas that they were opening up a location in the Mission months beforehand and had my eye out for their opening. First, love the ambiance and vibe here with a clean modern aesthetic, high ceilings, stunning shelving and an open air courtyard to welcome you in. The also have a DJ spinning vinyl on the weekends with a great 90s playlist. I've always loved the coffee and matcha from Hedge and in particular the cortado is amazing. You can't beat the quality of their beans but the prices here are pretty steeps even for SF. A 10z latte is $8 while a matcha is $10. Prices do include tax. They've just opened but I hope they introduce more specialty lattes to justify the price later on. We were lucky enough to snag a small table on a Sunday morning but given how busy it is I wouldn't plan on hanging out for long. Recently opened on October 25 (my birthday!!). - They pre rinsed my cup with hot water before serving my batch brew - they taste tested the pour over before serving - latte art in the form of a swan, one of the hardest designs to nail down in the specialty coffee business. This one's probably more dependent on the barista working for the day. Go before the word is fully out although at this point it pretty much is!! Line up before 9:30 AM and you should be fine with seating but after 10 am on the weekends it's going to be a decent wait. Standing room space and a few indoor seating but a big outdoor space too. The indoor seating benches don't be afraid to make room in the space in between the couple's seats -- just ask the person next to it if they're ok with that. maximize it!! I am really excited for this new coffee shop in my neighborhood. Be aware of the parking on Showell. They have STREET SWEEPING on both sides either Tuesday or Thursday from 12 to 2. They're pretty good about showing up on time at 12 usually. There are other businesses and offices on the street so parking can be tricky. I came in early on Monday morning and there was no line. I tried the vanilla latte and it was pretty good. I didn't feel the need to add any sugar and drank it as is. This is a place that only has one size for their coffee and limited options for pastries. But I was told by the barista that they have more options on the weekends than they do on the weekdays. I'm looking forward to visiting this new coffee shop in the future and seeing the business do well. read more

Hedge Coffee is one of those places that reminds me why SF is known as a major coffee city. I came in on a Tuesday morning, and the place was entirely full. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the environment is super modern and aesthetically pleasing! The employees are the exact vibe of person that feels too cool for me to talk to (like the person in high school that you're super intimidated by because they're just cooler than you but is actually really nice), but they were really friendly and conversational. I ordered a Vanilla Latte, and it was one of the best espresso drinks I've had in an extremely long time. It was incredibly smooth, with the perfect amount of sweetness. It was on the pricier end, but they don't charge extra for oat milk and the quality was evident. I don't finish drinks quickly, but I finished this one immediately. Unfortunately, they don't have Wi-Fi, so they're not a place to do work at. Went this past weekend (11/16) around 11AM and waited in line for 25 minutes to order. The menu prices are quite steep, with lattes starting at $8. Along with coffee, there's also a few baked goods. Music was blasting, it will get you up and moving, but it was somewhere hard to hear when ordering and getting order. Simple clean interior with coffee process happening in the middle of the store. From the looks of it, the espresso machines are built in to the counter. My favorite design was the courtyard featuring the tall tree, bringing in some light to dimmer light shop. Line moved pretty quick took about 10min to order, and wait for our drinks was probably another 10min. Drinks: Cortado - okay, espresso here had a medium roast profile with noticeable acidity, cortados here are heavier on the espresso and lighter on the milk Batch Brew - their drip coffee, served hot and dispensed when you order, friend said it was solid and pretty well balanced. Vanilla Ice Latte - okay as well, espresso also a bit acidic, medium ice level, subtle vanilla notes Service was solid, staff was friendly, and engaged, team works fairly quickly and efficiently to get drinks out. Seemed like a cafe with quite a few regulars who come to hang out at the cafe. Overall a decent spot for coffee (didn't see any pastries or food), really like the outdoor open space in front for lounging, the interior while large but mostly taken up by the coffee bar in the center on the left when you enter is a row of seats and small tables on the right is more of a landing area to wait for to-go orders. A couple of words come to mind when visiting this fine establishment: effortlessly cool, inviting, open, and spacious. The deluge of IG reels showing off this place (I guess thank you algorithm?) got me piqued with curiosity. My hubby and I decided to take advantage of low traffic season during holidays in SF, and while we gambled on the cafe being open on Black Friday, we were relieved to see that it was indeed open and brimming with people - luckily not too many people. After securing a close by parking spot, we stood and waited in line for less than 5 min before being greeted by the friendly staff. Neither one of us feeling fancy so we opted for their cold brew and batch brew. At the center U-shaped counter, they had both of these available on tap right next to the register. Because they were running low on the batch brew, the server told me she would call me back once the next batch brew was gonna be available; she was kind enough to fill me whatever was left with the tap so I happily waited while sipping on my half cup. The coffee tasted somewhere between light and medium roast, well balanced without needing a touch of cream or milk. Similarly for the cold brew it was mildly nutty and sweet, but for sure very caffeinated. We perused their shelves full of records as well as their neatly stacked coffee magazines highlighting various chic and trendy cafes around Japan. The sight of Glitch coffee popping up filled us with nostalgia from our last trip there in 12/2024. Although no DJs were playing, it was cool knowing that they had rotating DJs coming by. In the center U-shaped counter closest to us the baristas worked their magic on espresso drinks; another pair of baristas meticulously crafted their pour over coffees at the counter away from us. A line of communal cushioned bench inviting open seating adorned one side of the room. After a good amount of time passed and the front server remembered to call me back apologetically towards the front for their now freshly brewed batch brew to give me a full cup this time.
