So today I took my Mother to Moulin. After checking out the Instagram page it looked like a cool little spot well I must of got there late after a rush or something everything was gone in the display cases service was really good but a little to pricey for what you get if you ask me.She got the quiche they offer salad or fruit she specifically said fruit and they gave her salad come on there was no one in there I could see mistakes like that when it's busy but if your gonna charge 50 bucks for 2 pieces of quiche and 2 soups along with a piece of flan at least get the order right oh well really nice people but won't be a return customer or recommending to anyone else bummer read more

Just went there for brunch today. What a pretty and airy place. Clean open layout with outside cafe tables. Pastries looked delicious but I was in the mood for something heartier so I had the salmon eggs Benedict with freshly squeezed OJ. Omg it was so good I bought a baguette just to wipe up the hollandaise. The eggs were just the right degree of runniness. For a French bakery probably the most important test is the quality of the baguette. Moulin hits it out of the park with a nice crusty baguette with a soft middle. For those French speakers out there, I will also comment in French... Why not? My first impression of this place is that it feels like France! Once you step in, you can find plenty of products originated from there (the iconic Orangina to the cookies brand BN). You can also find wine as well from a various range of price. I am not an expert of wine, so I would not be able to tell you its quality. But if it's French, I am sure it must be great. The store seems to be divided into 2 sides. One is for the bakery, the other side is for dine-in/to go food orders. The pastries displayed there are simply gorgeous to look at. I have not had the chance to try them, but I will certainly do so next time I visit. For the savory food, they have a huge variety of selection that you won't find anywhere else! It feels very inspired from France (obviously) and it is worth trying them all if you want to know what real French food taste like. The only downside (maybe?) is that it is crowded and sometimes difficult to find a table to sit. I came in the morning and the tables are first come first served, without any server directing you to a specific table. You order, get a number, and you try to find a table. That is a minor complaint, but otherwise, if you are ordering to go, there is no problem at all. I highly recommend this place and will certainly come back here more often. Moulin really came through for me! I wanted a galette des rois to celebrate Épiphanie with my French students, and they were the only place around with one! I had a lovely chat with the woman behind the bakery counter while she was putting it in a box with the crown and the fève. This was a true and delicious French experience. It's awesome to practice my high school learned French with the staff. My sister ordered the Croque Madame and I had the Quiche Lorraine with a French Onion soup. We also shared a charcuterie and cheese board to sample the meats and cheeses. Everything was delicious and the French Onion Soup was superb. My Quiche Lorraine was a little under salted and I didn't realize it until near the end of finishing it, but when I added the right amount of salt the flavors exploded. In a word: SPECIAL! Somehow words like "unique," "wonderful," "a delight" - true as they are - don't quite capture the beauty of Moulin. In my opinion, it stands alone as a true experience of Paris amidst Orange County. There are no menu boards to read (menus exist, but the clear goal is to talk to the very talented staff to get suggestions), you will get a touch of (friendly!) push back if you want your whole order "to go"...this is a place to sit and savor, a spot where the attention to detail is found everywhere. The decor is beautiful, but simple - utterly non-pretentious and warm. The food is exceptional (especially at the utterly reasonable prices), with consistently the best brioche I've had on the west coast. The coffee is surprising good (for a place that is not trying to make a name in craft coffee), there is a wonderful wine by the glass selection as well as bottles for drinking or taking home. Back to the food: It is true French bistro with everything from handmade sandwiches on handmade baguette to beautiful eggs to pastries that melt in your mouth. If you are looking for Americanized "French" food to be gulped on the way back to the office, Moulin is probably not for you (service is plenty fast and you can get most things to go, but all this would be to miss the point of Moulin). Moulin is a labor of love, hand built by someone who wants to recreate the wonder of the French way of life (so centered on the pleasures of real food and human interaction) in beautiful Orange County. (Indeed I love it so much, part of me wants to keep it a hidden treasure! But Moulin deserves the praise and the success that is already pouring in.) If you want generic onion soup in 5 min or less, and 6 dozen mediocre croissants in a pink box right this second, you have myriad choices. If, instead, you long for great food, prepared by people who see slowing down, dining and friends as essential to the truly good life, you will find it at Moulin in abundance! Really cute place with good food. I liked the coffee and how it pairs well with the chocolate they give you. Baguette with jam is really good. Presentation and food quality is amazing. But..... As a first timer here I was confused with how you order and the overall system of the restaurant. That's not really a big deal to me because if you're a regular you can get the hang of things. Even the people sitting next to me explained how to order which I appreciated! The 3 stars is mainly for service. When entering everyone was really nice and helpful but I think towards the end when I went to ask for certain things I got the vibe that some of the staff were really annoyed which made them seem less helpful. We took a stroll to Juliette for lunch, saw this brand new establishment that used to be Pascal & got curious. We entered & voila! They opened up the space & transformed it into a cafe/boulangerie that I miss so much! All of French joints I've gone to (San Diego & OC) are French fusion. While they taste fine & great, I miss the flavor of straight-up classic French dejeuner. My expectation raised up slowly & we ordered: quiche lorainne, croque monsieur, sandwich au jambon & du jus d'orange that comes straight from the juicer that tastes like sweet citrus heaven! Quiche took 1st deliciousness place, followed by croque monsieur. We weren't crazy about the ham sandwich unfortunately. But, we didn't end there. We went on to have chocolate croissant, strawberry mini-tarte, more orange juice & had a great ending. C'est magnifique! read more

After visiting the place about 4 times, I can honestly say that I LOVE this place. Simple, authentic French food that I've been craving for has finally been found! I just love the pastries from this establishment. I am not a dessert person at all and most of the time I do not want to waste my calorie count on dessert. That said, I fear that my waistline is going to suffer. And by the way, make sure you also try the Plat du Jour!! The owner brought his own culinary team from France to serve you the real French experience. While I was there last night for dinner, I already made reservation for next week's Chef's dinner. Do not come here to expect some crazy fancy French food that you would get when you go to Joel Robuchon's restaurants. What you get is the everyday food that you would expect to find at a local street side French Deli/Bistro in Paris. I know some people may complain about the price is a bit high for the size of the order. However, seriously, the owner is trying to serve you the real French experience, not the Americanized size of French food. I alternate between both locations, Laguna Beach and Newport Beach. The service in Laguna is consistently awesome. It's a hit and miss at the Newport Beach location based on my 3-4 visits/month, each time spending $75.00-$150.00 on bakery. Of all their items, the skinny and long "pain sportif" is a must - (the large version isn't as good). Every french bakery has the traditional boulangerie but only Moulin has this mini-baguette, encrusted with tons of fruits and nuts, no need for jelly or anything else with your french bread. 5 stars for content (all foods) + 3 stars for service = 4 stars average. read more

Food is okay, however, service is lacking and not friendly. The servers at the deli counter have no concept of fairly attending to people waiting in line. We were waiting in line at the front of counter to be served and noticed two persons in line behind us helped before we were. Apparently not all customers are treated the same here. I felt discriminated against. I recommend Layer Cake Bakery. They also have delicious croissants and macarons. Most importantly, Layer Cake Bakery serves their customers waiting in line in the traditional way - the person at the front of the line gets helped and served first regardless of personal preferences and discriminations of the service staff. 100% trying and 1% failing is unacceptable when the 1% failing happens to occur when the customer is from an ethnic background other than french/white. read more

You can taste the vanilla, white and milk chocolate in the mille feuille and the crunchiness lets you know how fresh it is. Most of the breakfast menu & pastries are very good as well. I've had the Omelette Paysane, Croque Monsieur, croissants, apple/pear/apricot tarts and brioche. Moulin has quickly appeared to be one of my new favorite places in Orange County. I absolutely love almost everything about this place. For starters, actual French people work there! Next, it looks extremely cool, with the ample outdoor seating, and the cool signage on the walls inside, the long cases of food, the beautiful espresso machine and many walls of French products for purchase. It's also just slightly more modern and industrial than what you may first picture when you hear the words "French bistro." Above all, of course, the food makes me love Moulin. The first time I went, it was around dinnertime and I ordered the Chicken Poulet with french fries AND salad included. The chicken was very nicely roasted and very juicy. The french fries were very, very delicious as well, and probably the best in the area. The side salad was a nice addition, well-dressed with an acidic dressing and slightly bitter green. The next time I went, I came for breakfast and got: A croissant Double espresso The L'Omelette Paysane The croissant was fantastic, and especially so with the espresso. L'Omelette Paysane is an omelette with bacon, potatoes, and onion. This also comes with two slices of toast and a side salad. The omelette was very nicely cooked. The fillings were a perfect combination, and the baby potatoes in particular were nicely tender. Moulin also seems to have some amazing looking dinner options that rotate throughout the week, which I am sure to partake in. I like this deli/cafe/bakery place with great staff. I ordered a salmon Benedict with Passion fruit iced tea. I really enjoyed the side salad, super light Hollandaise sauce, but my eggs seemed a bit overcooked. I was hoping for the runny yolk to ooze all over the smoked salmon and English muffin when I cut into the egg, but the yolk stayed put on top of the English muffin. My boyfriend got a cafe au lait and veggie omelette. The coffee was OK, but I like that they served it with a piece of chocolate; their busser guy gave us extra chocolate when he came over and cleared our table! Delicious French food! I don't have French food often, so I may not be the best judge, but the dishes I tried at Moulin definitely satisfied my taste buds. I came on a Saturday afternoon around 1 and the place had quite a few people, but was not overly crowded- there was no line to order food. They have an assortment of cute pastries displayed as well as a few hot and cold side dishes, which you can purchase by the pound. We ordered the Le Croissanwich and the Le Croque Madame. They were both delicious and accompanied by a side salad. If I came back, I would have a hard time choosing which to order- they were both filling and tasty, but not too salty. The restaurant is not set up with waiter service (at least for breakfast).You order food at the register and they later bring it to your table. There is seating indoors and outdoors and the decor inside is simply lovely. They also have a selection of french lemonades, and wines by the bottle. During the day I definitely don't think reservations are necessary and parking isn't too hard to find in the plaza. I noticed the dinner menu changes weekly, so I'll definitely be back to try more! read more

The menu was mostly in French, it made ordering a little difficult/confusing. The service was quite good. They were attentive and quick. After they cleared most of our dishes, one of the workers came by to take my napkin and gave me a fresh one. My boyfriend ordered an omelette and I ordered a croissant sandwich. The food came out very quickly. The coffee was good. The food was very tasty, but a bit pricey for what it was. I can kind of understand though because you could tell that the toast that came with the omelette looked like they probably made it in house. You can tell that they are really going for authenticity, even the salt on the table was French! Although I can't really say how authentic it was, as I have never been to France. :) read more

It's somewhat of a self serve type of restaurant / bakery. You go to the counter to order and choose what you want, then you pick up your drinks at one location and they bring the food you order to your table. The Mrs and I really enjoyed this place and will probably frequent it often. We had the following: Cafe Latte - served with dark chocolate on the side Chocolate croissant - really delicious and tasty...one of my favorite french pastries Vegetarian Omelette - the Mrs wanted to eat healthy Le Croissanwich - with eggs bacon and a side of salad...how can you go wrong and It was one of the most talked about dishes on Yelp. La tarte Tropézienne - It's a fluffy cake with a creamy filling and powdered sugar on top - really delicious where I couldn't stop eating it Apparently their chicken is also fantastic...will have to try that next time. A lovely place that's part bistro, part deli, part boulangerie, part patisserie, part marché. Wasn't expecting this set up and it was nice browsing at the variety of French condiments and goods on the shelves, along with ogling at the gorgeous array of pastries while waiting for our eggy breakfast: Eggs Benedict, Croissandwich, and Croque Madame. All was delicious, I especially loved the rustic ham, eggs were perfect. They left out the cheese in my croissandwich even though I requested it, but I'm willing to overlook that. Have always been a huge fan of French classics and breakfast here did not disappoint. Crowded on a weekday morning, but still feels quite laid back (for me anyway). Went there for brunch last month on a Saturday and it is pretty authentic French cafe fair. Ordered a croque Monsieur, Quiche Lorraine, eggs Benedict aux Salmon and a salad nicoise. Everything was really done exceptionally with my only personal issue of the croque monsieur not enough chew. Fresh squeezed OJ cleansed the pallet and the latte was very smooth. Great service and friendly staff. The dog friendly patio is a plus but they should also instinctively bring a bowl of water when the server notices the pet.
