What a hidden treasure to find in Mt. Airy. This jewel of restaurant is nestled away in a small shopping center. This Inn has it own charm. The staff were great. The server was very attentive. Apps and Entrees came out quickly. The portions were very generous. I mean like "leftover generous". This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and veggies. The meatloaf portion is out of this world. It could have used a bit more seasoning but all-in-all, it was tasty and filling. The Inn also features a full bar if you want add some spirits to your dining experience. While the Inn sits in Northern Montgomery County, it is less than 45 minutes from WV, 40 minutes from Silver Spring, and 28 minutes from Columbia. Worth the visit. Bon Apetit. read more

We stopped in here for lunch. It was moderately busy. There is also an upstairs area. They have a nice amount of booths and are kid friendly. There were several families eating with young children when we were there. I like the ambiance - big stone fireplace, natural wood finish, iron touches on the furniture - just a cozy place to have a meal. They serve breakfast all day, which was a big plus for us, since I wanted breakfast. My Western Omelet was delicious! My husband had a Cobb Salad with grilled chicken, which was also very good. The grilled chicken had a nice "grilled" taste to it and was not dry at all. It wasn't inexpensive - 2 meals and a coffee was $25 before tax, but the food was good and the service was excellent. We told them we only had 40 minutes and they got us our food and check and had us out the door with time to spare. We'd definitely eat here again. read more

Sat at the bar for lunch. Got the French Onion Soup, wood fired Bruschetta and the wings. The soup was blazing hot and the cheese was melted perfectly. The bruschetta was done in the wood fired oven and it was amazing. Huge portion with tons of tomatoes. Wings were cooked to order and were plump and juicy. I have enjoyed coming to this place for years. They have an incredible variety of breakfast food and pizzas that are easy pleasers for anyone. As every other Marylander, I love the Chesapeake pizza they have; they put just the right amount of meat and Old Bay. I love their Turkey Pretz sandwich, cause what's better than a pretzel bun? NOTHING! They normally have a pretty good selection of beers on tap, and are always displaying what is next up. I have sat at the bar, the main dining, upstairs, and outside, and have loved the experience every time. The staff are friendly and great to talk to. I hope to come again soon. read more

7/3/2021 - My wife and I had a stellar experience during our first visit over this morning of the Mt Airy Inn.  Alissa, our waitress, was absolutely fantastic.  We had some special requests as soon as we sat down and she quickly and pleasantly provided what we needed.  The food was just wonderful.  Upon her recommendation we ordered the Hashed Potatoes and they were so very good.  My wife, a vegan, ordered a grilled veggie wrap and was very happy.  No question that we'll return.  Highly recommended. 11/7/21 Update: So in July 2021 I gave the Inn a 5 based on our breakfast experience. Today's lunch experience was a 2 so I've revised the stars to 3. Our server and his service today was excellent. The food was not very good at all. The French Onion soup was bland. I had to keep salting it just to get any taste from it. My wife's cornbread came out hot on the top and cold on the bottom. She sent it back and it came out again hot on the top and cold on the bottom. She finally just requested it be removed from our bill and it was. The Old Bay on top of the Waffle Fries promised a delicious appetizer but they were only just ok. The mashed potatoes were pretty good but not fabulous. read more

The food is good. However most breakfasts are cold and the over easy eggs are medium. Even the biscuits are cold. How cold? As soon as the server brings the biscuits, the butter can't melt on them! And don't even drink the coffee. I hate strong coffee but I equally hate weak coffee. It taste like water with a coffee flavor! I asked the server to make it stronger and she said they can't! Wow! This is a review for their expensive Thanksgiving dinner, so to be fair, although it deserves one star, I'm giving it three since some of their regular food is good. Great staff too ... however, it was by far THE worst Thanksgiving meal we have ever had. Soup-like cranberry sauce, flavorless stuffing & gravy. Glue- like mashed potatoes...rubbery & tasteless green bean casserole. Buns were not fresh. Really guys? Are are supposed to be a hometown restaurant. A waste of money & just awful. We have been to Mt Airy Inn numerous times and have always been satisfied with the food and service. Not having tried the pizza before we decided to order one for take out. They advertise just one size, a 16" pizza. We ordered a half cheese half onion and although it was good it was barely enough for two as it turned out to only be 12". The box was only 12.25" square so I'm not sure how they can claim to sell a 16" pizza. read more

I think this place is cute and homey feel. People are nice and kind. Every time I go, the food is pretty eh. I so wish they would do a refresh on how they present and give a little extra to the quality of food. For example: My son ordered cheese and bacon fries for an appetizer (not my idea). It was literally frozen waffle fries, mostly the end of the bag pieces, cheddar cheese/bacon all still on the burnt parchment paper from the oven. And it also came with a side of green ranch looking sauce that hardly filled up the little bowl. My suggestion would be, slide the fries off the burnt paper onto the plate, get a better quality French fry, multiple cheeses, have a filled cup of ranch (doesn't have to be big) and then sprinkle some chives on top or green onions. I don't want this to seem like a bad review. I want to go to the mount airy in and I want it to be a delicious hometown favorite were we go all the time!! read more

What an awful experience. Ordered a wrap, after waiting 30 minutes it got delivered to the table as a sandwich? Soon being approached by the waitress stating she had entered it in incorrectly, we asked to get it corrected and it got slapped on a cold wrap and just not edible at that point. Being understanding and just wanting something different and fresh we were made to wait another 25 minutes for an entrée that never hit the table, the manager came to our table and started an argument about how we were wrong & just beyond disrespectful continuing to talk over us. After politely asking for it to be removed from the bill she became more argumentative, made a spectacle of herself in-front of everyone in the restaurant. After an unnecessary back and forth she removed the entree from the ticket, we were met with continued unprofessional behavior. Never experienced this in my life. read more

Unsure why this place doesn't have 5 stars overall! My husband, cousin, and I usually have breakfast here once a week. The service is always great. From the many omelets to that amazing French toast, the food never disappoints. While it's our breakfast go to, we will occasionally have lunch or dinner here. We were visiting from Baltimore and stopped in to have lunch. We were warmly greeted and seated. Kenny, our server, came over right away to welcome us as well. My husband was thrilled to see that you offered a real Turkey Club. The sandwich came with chips and a pickle. I ordered the Vegetarian Pizza. It was approximately 12 inches in size. It was large enough to share with someone, but I have leftovers for tomorrow. It was a thin crust pizza topped with mozzarella, tomatoes, mushrooms, grilled onions, spinach, garlic and olive oil. I like the bright atmosphere and the service was good, but to me, this restaurant is a complete and total ripoff. I don't mind paying for quality food, but in my opinion quality food with fresh ingredients cannot be found here. I would be embarrassed and ashamed if I owned or managed this restaurant. In the words of Chef Ramsey, it is a kitchen nightmare. My son ordered a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. It was the first time I have ever seen him not eat a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. When he opened up his sandwich, there was no balance. The sausage was so disproportionate to the bread and the cheese was oily and sparse. I know the difference between a fresh sausage patty and a pre-cooked sausage that you heat up in the microwave. It was definitely pre-cooked which is why the sausage was smooth in the middle and so small. Also, the egg was fried to a hard rock solid. It would have been better if he was asked how he wanted his egg. I asked what rhe difference between the legendary french toast and the original french toast was. I was not impressed that the legendary had cinnamon around the edges for $4 more so I opted for the original french toast with a side of ham. When my plate arrived, the ham was two rectangular thin slices of the cheap ham you get at a grocery store deli. Any foodie would have been insulted and disgusted. I immediately lost my appetite. My husband got the chesapeake omelet for $13.99. Once again it lacked balance and flavor. The egg was too thick and had a weird texture. It was filled with mozzerella cheese and a miniscule amount of crab. We had to hunt for the crab and it was not even quality crab meat. Also, it was not even jumbo lump crab meat. To charge that price and not even put jumbo an ounce and 1/2 of quality jumbo lump crabmeat is just sad. The potatoes had a good flavor, but again, did not taste fresh. You can try it if you want, but there are way too many options and places that serve quality food out there for me to return. read more

Been here for breakfast several times and it was good but not on this visit. I order the eggs Florentine Benedict aka eggs Benedict with spinach instead of meat. The potato's came out ok but the hollindaise sauce was really strange. It tasted like straight butter and looked like cheese. My wife and I visited Mount Airy Inn for the first time this on this rainy Sunday afternoon. We were quickly seated in a roomy booth for two. We both felt very comfortable in the warm and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant seemed to be nearly full of couples and families enjoying themselves - always good to see when you walk into someplace new. Our waitress, Rose, greeted us and took our drink orders. She later showed us a menu of specials that were not part of the main menu. Just as I was eyeballing the fried oyster sandwich, she broke the news to us that they were out of oysters. Kind of a bummer, but it happens. My wife settled on the fish and chips, and I ordered the french dip sandwich and cream of crab soup. All of the food was excellent. The cream of crab soup was some of the best I've ever had. If you go there, go hungry because the portions are huge! We needed take out boxes. I was hangry by the time we arrived, and the AMAZING Alyssa was so sweet and attentive! She brought me toast ASAP, which saved my husband from imminent danger. Had a veggie wrap with chips. Our first visit here last night didn't disappoint. We were seated right away and our server was pleasant and attentive. The three of us started with the fried green tomatoes with homemade cilantro ranch. They were light and crispy and the dipping sauce was so good we hoarded the extra to dip anything from our meals in there. The California chicken salad was a nice size with perfectly grilled chicken and a huge avocado half. I loved my vegetable wrap- warm crisp asparagus with roasted zucchini and squash and chilled tomato and lettuce with a light pesto seasoning. I upgraded chips to a side salad with the cilantro ranch dressing, of course. My husband enjoyed his reuben with Caesar salad and asked for an extra side of the cilantro ranch that we are now obsessed with. Service was fast and efficient. My friend and I came in for breakfast on a Sunday morning.Our server Brent was very nice and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu before we were ready to order. Our food was fresh, hot, cooked to order and the portion sizes were huuuuge! I got a variation of the eggcelence breakfast platter and my friend did the 'make your own omelet". The ambiance is very cozy and quaint. They had the fireplace going which was giving me hella cabin in the woods vibes - but not where an axe murderer kills me at the end. We've been coming here for Sunday breakfast for about a year now! The bartenders (Travis, Whitney, Sabrina) are always friendly and serve great bloody Mary's! Our food is always delicious! Im particularly fond of the sausage gravy and the western omelette! I highly suggest you eat here if you are in the area! They also have GREAT pick up, curb side, and delivery during the pandemic. I was hungry for fish and chips and after doing the research i chose to try Mt Airy Inn. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink and I had to ask for a menu. The bartender was less than cordial but i thought perhaps she was having a bad day. Nonetheless i put my order in for the fish and chips with an upcharge of an extra piece of fish. The young waitress asked me if I wanted chips i said yes thinking she was speaking of the ribbed fries. After several minutes my order came out bagged up and ready to go. When I arrived to my office and opened the food box, there were two pieces of fish AND A BAG OF LAYS POTATO CHIPS!!!! On the menu it says FRIES NOT CHIPS!! When i called the restaurant, the manager was less than understanding and merely said "the girl asked you if you wanted chips. She then said i could come back for the fries as if I had nothing else to do. Really really bad customer service on her part. I am even more turned off at how she was bad mouthing customers to another employee as they were wanting to order Thanksgiving holiday meals. NOPE dont think i will be going back to mt airy inn. Came here for the first time on Saturday 9/18 with Mr Capron is who is an ol' regular. Sat on the upper deck outside. The service we excellent. The food was excellent. Had the chicken fried steak meal which came with a very tasty piece of meat, delicious gravy, 2 eggs cooked just how I asked, rye bread and potatoes (ask for them crispy!). This would never detract from my rating but as a plus put a non-citrus (ie west coast) IPA/pale ale on the menu and employ a more respectful meal delivery person (not the hostess she was respectful and welcoming and cleared out table, but the young gal that was noticeably snide, brought the food, and unwelcome to us after). Came here with my brother this morning. My father and mother refused to come because they said the place has changed and isn't good anymore. They were 100% right. The menu right off the bat isn't interesting or unique. If they could improve one thing, it's their menu. They need to have more options for breakfast because it is very limited. I ordered french toast and bacon. The french toast was basic, no options for confectioners sugar or toppings (fruit, chocolate chips, etc.). The bacon I got was pretty much a waste as only half of it could be eaten because it was so fatty. My brother got scrapple and pancakes which were again, basic and overpriced. We've been coming here for years and they used to have great breakfast. Not the case anymore. It's a shame cause they have a ton of charm and it's a beautiful restaurant.
