I have several family members and friends interred there and they have damaged my grandparents marble (cracked) and bent their brass headstone with their heavy equipment (large tractor) and several other grave markers are damaged (sinking and sagging) as well from their heavy equipment.....sad indeed and the grounds are in poor shape covered in geese droppings so watch your step when visiting. What's even move disturbing is the theft of brass flower vases on the grave markers.....obviously security is lax and incompetent read more

This cemetery and office staff is of no help when trying to make a request, been trying for weeks to get work done on family graves and no help at all this is so offensive and just not right we as customers deserve for our loved ones graves to be taken care of the front part of cemetery looks nice but the further you go back it us just horrible and the staff just does not seem to care I talked to office staff this morning told her I would make yet another complaint and she said we'll maybe that would help, where is the kindness, respect at for our lived ones the value of this cemetery is poorly run and absolutely no stars from me please try and fix our Cemetery. read more

My family had my Fathers service and burial in Sept of 2023. Mount Comfort owes me a refund of approx $550.00. 15 months I've called and left messages, phoned general mgr, emailed our representative. Our representative did her part to assist with the refund. To this date 12/8/2024 I have not received a phone call from anyone at Mt Comfort. When u call their office to speak with someone in accounts payable, you can't get past the front desk. This same man answers the phone. You can't get past him. They still owe me approx $550. My loved one is buried there and someone is stealing flowers from his cemetery vase. I called and a representative said that stealing flowers is a big problem they have and they suggest buying cheap flowers. This is unacceptable. read more

Unfortunately I have to amend my review once again. I drove up on Father's day to visit my father's grave and all of Ms. Carrie Hares efforts were undone. (see attached photos.) I have come to the conclusion that the grounds keeping staff could care less that they are mowing over someone's loved one. It's evidently just grass to them. The only reason for the sod to be rolled back like that is that the mower drug it up and the operator just didn't feel it necessary to get off the mower and put it back. I am just glad I didn't bring my mother up here again to see this. For a better understanding you may want to read my complete review thread. Perhaps I am wrong on how it got that way. If Mount Comfort has a better explanation I am open to hearing it. Regardless of how it got that way I was assured that someone would be watching over it regularly. I suppose the next time i come up i should bring my own tools and water to make sure his resting place is taken care of in a respectful manner. My wife and I have many members of our family buried at Mount Comfort in different areas and I believe that after seeing my Father's resting place in this condition a second time the next time I come up from Richmond I need to do a complete site survey of all of our loved ones resting places. My father was buried just over a year ago and if his grave is not being maintained how do our other loved ones resting places look like after being interred over the years. Once again i am just glad i didnt put my 94 year old mother through another 2.5 hour drive to see her husbands resting place disrespected a second time. read more

My mother was buried here back in 1980 and the grounds overall are well maintained. I have recently been trying to finalize my father's will documents and he has three plots purchased back in the 1960's. We wanted this to go through his "trust" so I didn't know how to handle this. I called and spoke with Regina and she was so helpful. I actually kept coming back to her and she was so polite and respectful. I want to commend Regina on her excellent customer service. read more

I am giving 5 stars due to one extremely helpful grounds man, Terrence. My parents & brother are here & We came to place flowers but we could not get the urn off our parents headstone so we called the office & they sent Terrence, he got the urn off & was so helpful & respectful. That said, the grass used to be trimmed around the headstones, it doesn't appear it's done any longer. read more

My family and I have been trying to make arrangements with the cemetery for approximately 2 weeks now. On March 11, 2024, I met and made arrangements for a burial service with a representative by the name of "Sunny". I felt confused and rushed almost the entire (3) hours that I was there. Every time I had a question it seemed to break Sunny's concentration and she seemed frustrated. Finally, after completing the documents I was asked to hurry and sign the documents as she had a service to attend to. I was notified by Sunny the day before our scheduled service that they were sorry, but the services we had spent 3 hours planning could not happen at that time. She said that more information was needed. After this I spoke to Mr Tomlin whom I was told was the general manager and he confirmed that the service couldn't happen when it had been scheduled. There was we need this or we need that from that point on. Here we are a couple of weeks later and our loved one is still laying in the funeral home. There is a lot more to this story, but it would take a long time to write and for you to understand. Jefferson funeral chapel had no problems with the information provided to them and did a wonderful job, but the mistake from the very beginning with Mt Comfort Cemetery was that Sunny should never have made those arrangements with me because the deceased next of kin was his children and I am the ex-wife. I am also 100 percent beneficiary on the deceased life insurance policy and was working very closely with the children to help making all arrangements. Guess Sunny's attention was on who's paying the bill instead of her legal obligation in the planning of the service. There are no words to describe the pain and suffering this has caused our family and friends. I've also heard from others that own plots in Mt Comfort Cemetery that their loved ones were buried in the wrong place. Can you imagine having to go through something like this? Please, think long and hard about where you lay your loved ones to rest. It's the last thing that you'll ever do for them. Because of the experience that I have had with Mt Comfort Cemetery, I do not recommend using their services for anything. They seem to have no empathy for you or your family, it's all about the money with them. read more

My mother was laid to rest November 2017, today I visit her gravesite to find she has never received her memorial nameplate. My daughter, being a licensed funeral director in VA and WV told me it's the responsibility of the cemetery and she was shocked that ever happened.. Mt. Comfort is a lovely, modern-style cemetery. The grounds are well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful during funeral planning and burial. On the negative side, we have found their follow-up service to be poor. My mother-in-law was buried in March of 2018. Shortly after her burial, a mower or backhoe ran over the marker, mashed it into the ground and dented it. My sister-in-law had a difficult time getting it repaired. In addition, it is now November and the small plaque showing my mother-in-law's date of death has not been installed. Two of her relatives have brought this up with management. One filled out a complaint form. So far nothing has been done. In general, I think Mt. Comfort isn't a bad cemetery. I may be buried there myself. But once your loved one is interred, don't expect any further interest from the staff. They seem to care more about the landscaping than the deceased or their families. Management is also hard to reach - the cemetery is owned by a company in Texas. read more

I am so disappointed in Mount comfort. Three of my family members are buried in the cemetery and I will be someday as well. Last week I received a email from one of their associates, Darwin Darling Who had sold me the last bit of pre-need I needed and spent an hour and a half going through the contracts and automatic debit information. He informed me that my account was getting ready to be canceled. I was stunned because I filled out all the paperwork and it was supposed to be an automatic debit taken out of my account. Not only had that not happened but none of the new information that I spent an hour and a half filling out in their offices was ever relayed. It has left me with such an awful taste in my mouth and the fear of whether I will be buried in the right crypt or whether any of my family were buried in the right places? How would we ever know? All I can say is double check all of your information and contracts,make sure that your banking and credit information is safe and secure and follow up on everything. I have honestly in my 40 year career never met a more unorganized and dysfunctional group of people Who truly have no idea what customer services and especially in an industry where that is key. read more

My grandmother passed away and I trusted Mount Comfort to take care of her needs. They buried her in the wrong place and her headstone was mis-spelled. Our family is so upset that my grandmother was taken care of in this manner. They were going to cremate her to start with because she is such a large woman and we were told that we needed to buy 2 burial plots to accompany her overly large frame. This is not right to tell a family this when they are still grieving for their loss. Our grandmother meant the world to us and are at a loss for words. They said that they will not fix the grave marker because they were going with what it said in the contract. The contract was mis-spelled by THEIR staff. Not our family. We are in the process of hiring a lawyer because we want our grandmother moved to the right spot and for her grave marker to be fixed. It's only 5 feet, but she will be under the elm tree that she loved to sit under her whole life. DO NOT USE THEM!!! read more

This cemetery has been a nightmare from day one. 1. They misspelled my mother's name on her grave marker....then they misspelled "November"..it literally took more than 10 years to get it corrected. Today our family went to visit my mother's grave and my mother's grave marker was nowhere to be found. The mgmt had no explanation whatsoever...they said they would have to check with the grounds keeper who.was already gone for the day. It's shocking and disappointing that MT. I was planning to place birthday flowers on my father's grave yesterday, but I couldn't get the vase to come out of the base. Gratefully, Tarrence, a cemetery employee, was passing by. He stopped to help me, using his tools he was able to loosen and raise the vase so my trip was not in vain. When he learned that it was my father's birthday he went to his cart to get a special spray. He treated the whole grave marker with it and made it shine. Do not use their services if you can go elsewhere. Our "rep" could not explain their pricing. Kept telling us it was for "services" but would not tell us what the services where. They needed some paperwork signed which we understood. All family was out of state but we had arranged for someone to drive several hours to bring paperwork in. We asked rep to fax copy of paperwork so we could have notarized & delivered. She did not have a fax. Okay, please email. She was out of office. Please have someone else from your office email paperwork. I literally begged on the phone to have this done. 24 hours later, paperwork never sent. I finally reached rep who said "I was late this morning, then I had a meeting, then I had to meet with another family". This paperwork was ONE SINGLE PAGE that they could not find the time to fax, or email. It continued downhill after that. Go elsewhere. read more

Went to Mt Comfort Cemetery on 20 June 2016 to bring my father some flowers for his birthday and the flower vase we had purchased back in November 2015 had not been mounted. Up until then everything was wonderful...very professional people and services. My friends & I attended a graveside ceremony in June 2016. The only service the widow wished was simple Buddhist chanting followed by burial of ashes. We were there to chant. The widow had no other attendees. The cemetery personnel did not introduce themselves to us. There was no contact with them about potential needs for the service. This was not an issue until after we had finished chanting. The widow wished to place the ashes & mementos in the container herself. First a bulldozer with a load full of dirt pulled up to graveside. After 5 minutes I asked personnel to cut the engine. They are quite noisy the opposite of comfort. Then a tractor with a trailer arrived! So much for dignity, quiet and beauty. A bin (about the size and weight of a 5 gallon bucket) for us to place the container of ashes in was literally dropped on the ground. We were then told that all the mementos wouldn't fit. We lovingly placed the container on the table to fill it. While filling we were was repeatedly asked if we were done yet!!! We told her to take her time and she lovingly arranged them.They fit just fine. read more

Any "comfort" vanished when, as soon as we ended, a bulldozer with a load full of dirt noisily pulled up! A bin for us to place the container of ashes in was literally dropped on the ground before us and we were told that all the items the grieving widow wished to inter with the ashes wouldn't fit as she was repeatedly asked if she was done as she was lovingly arranging them. We told her to take her time and, guess what, everything fit just fine. Fortunately, the widow was probably in too much shock to notice this rude and unprofessional behavior, but the rest of us sure did and we were appalled. The three involved cemetery staff might want to either do some soul-searching and shape up or consider another profession. By the way, I work at a hospice, so I know that this is behavior by no means meets the standards of most funeral homes and cemeteries. read more
