A delicious and hearty stop after a morning hike is just what I needed. Super lively inside with a fantastic beer selection. Feels like a place that locals and weekenders visit alike. There was a food truck outside that served limited fare, but I Ordered some schnitzel inside to go so I could eat with some friends that opted for the truck food. The estimate they provided upon ordering was pretty accurate and luckily it was okay to bring the beers around the back too. Would recommend!

Bavarian pretzel with smoked gouda to start, Reuben strudel that has no business being as good as it is, Chicken Jaeger over spaetzle, and a Schweinshaxe that could anchor a table. Two draft stouts. Apfelstrudel to close. Solo lunch, $111 with tax -- no complaints. Fantastic and hospital service. Patio was scenic.

I've lived in this area my entire life, and somehow missed this restaurant. First off, it is sooo cute and cozy inside. The bartenders and staff go above and beyond and they're so friendly. The drink menu is sold, with an ample selection of beers. I went with brats for dinner, which were hot, tasty, and filling. The winner of the night was the honey cake... omg, it's to die for! The Irish coffee was also an excellent choice with dessert. Highly recommend!

The food at the brauhaus is truly incredible. We went on a Friday night and although it was busy, they squeezed us in at a table in the bar area. The atmosphere was fun and lively. We ordered appetizers & entrees knowing we'd have leftovers for the weekend. The schnitzel, pot roast, klops & potato pancakes all come highly recommended!!! We will be back for sure

Well, I see I first posted in 2016 about Mountain Brauhaus. Everything is exactly the same excellence, all around. I can only say that this place never disappoints. It is still one of my favorite restaurants. Shout out to the GREAT and friendly staff.

Great food and great service in a warm and friendly atmosphere. It's definitely worth going out of your way if you're anywhere close to Gardiner.

1st time to the Mountain Brauhaus and we'll definitely be back! Set off 87 as you drive through New Paltz, you are immediately transported into the deep mountain valley with limited to no cell service. Reservations are highly encouraged and they were prompt on honoring our time that we made the reservation for. Many walk ins tried to get a table but only space at the bar was available as they were fully booked with reservations! We started with the Rueben strudel that I wanted to loved but it honestly wasn't that hot nor crisp but the accompanying sauces were delicious. The children's portions are extreme fair sized and the chicken was a huge hit! All the dinner platters were hardy and delicious with leftovers to take home, the highlights we're definitely the potato pancakes and that gravy for the pot roast I wish I could have bought a quart to bring home! From the first call to book our reservation to the hostess that seated us to our server and waitstaff that assisted her we're all very friendly and on point. Overall a fantastic dining experience with an even better beer list that was a huge highlight of our meal!

Although we didn't make a reservation and had to wait for 1 hour before being seated, it was totally worth it! The food was savory and the drinks were crisp and refreshing. Margie was the nicest and most helpful waitress

Amazing German cuisine. We both had the chicken schnitzel prepared different ways - very good and very large portions. Next time we are splitting one dish. Each entree comes with a salad and we had the house onion vinaigrette. Also, we started with onion rings - they were great however, we should have started with the barvarian pretzel from the looks of it, it was much better and more of a classic. Service was great, plenty of people around filling up water glasses and taking empty plates. We also were seated with a nice view of the mountains so ambiance was good. I would highly recommend making a reservation- yes, it's old school calling to make a reservation however very worth it as we walked in and were seated immediately. We didn't have any room for dessert however they looked really good!

Hubby was stationed in Germany for six years in the 80's. Since then he's been searching for delicious German food in the states. I've been searching for a restaurant to celebrate his birthday and I found Mountain Brauhaus.. Making reservations was a breeze. What a wonderful surprise for him! He was very impressed with the German beer menu, lots of great beers to choose from. Our waiter Eric brought a basket of fresh pumpernickel bread to our table. It's definitely authentic- such an amazing texture and flavor. Hubby went with pork Jagerschnitzel and I opted for pot roast. According to him the Jagerschnitzel was done to perfection with the Spätzle the perfect texture. My pot roast was delicious, fork tender and the mashed potatoes were heaven!! I also had a side of potato pancakes thst were so crispy and tasty. I brought a piece of apfel strudel home. It definitely tasted homemade!! I wish I brought home 2 it was that good. I feel bad withholding one star but, I asked for a straw (I understand they're trying to reduce plastic) and I was told they offered paper straws- however, I never received one. At no time during our meal did our server ever check on us or ask if we'd like more drinks. Last, hubby brought home half of his dinner as the portion was very large. He asked if a little extra gravy could be added because the spatzel absorbed most of it. The server said "oh sure, no problem!" Unfortunately- no extra gravy was added. Overall it was a lovely evening out and the food is delicious!

There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

The waitresses are very kind and dressed in traditional German dresses and the live music is a great touch. To start, I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea that had a bit too much punch to it. The alcohol ratio was quite off and was very hard to drink. I asked for a soda to try and dumb it down, but was only able to get about half way through it. Though this was my fault for not ordering a beer at a German restaurant, I still would have liked the drink to be a bit tastier and is unfortunately the only thing keeping this review from being a shinning 5-stars. For my meal I ordered the sauerbraten which did NOT disappoint! The beef was very tender and the vinegar mixed with the gravy was the perfect level of sour and hearty. The red hot red cabbage was hot and flavorful and the potato pancakes were perfectly cooked. The side of applesauce put on top of the potato pancakes added the right amount of sweetness. A friend got the special rouladen which I got a taste of and was very delicious. The pickles inside were flavorful and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The menu is a bit pricey, but the portions are deceptively filling. I definitely expected to be hungry after but I finished my plate absolutely stuffed! Overall, this was a great experience and would recommend anyone looking for a taste of Germany to give this a try.
