This place is pretty solid and pretty much one of the few places to get that "local experience". It does take a little bit of figuring out when you first get there. There's a coffee bar right inside the door, or you can go back to the food counter in the back. There are a lot of options for a little place, mainly pizza and sandwiches/Sammies. Everyone in my group got something different and everyone liked it! They also have a nice pastry/dessert assortment. You can also grab beer from the cooler and enjoy it with your food there as well! They have 2 areas with local artisans and whatnot for sale. You can pay at either the coffee or food counter. Lots of cute little gifty things, and a giant table of fun socks if that's your thing. Aa well as locally sourced items such as jams and honey. I couldn't turn down the raspberry honey, it's delicious! I love the little porch swings inside by the fire, with drink holders and the middle even folds down for a little table/more drink holders. Haven't been in a while and we went last Thursday. The have remodeled and the place look great! We usually get a sandwich and split it along with a 12 or 14" Goodfellow pizza, of which we take a couple of pieces home. We were going to get a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich but we're out of the bread so we opted for the Reuben. The food is still excellent as it has always been (deli sandwiches and the pizza) and the service was great! Price is good too. We enjoy eating there and will continue to!!! read more

We stumbled upon this place while driving through. It was a great lunch stop! I had the Garden Wrap which had spring mix, cucumber, peppers, hummus, sunflower seeds, and tomatoes. It was so delicious and a great vegetarian option. We also tried the pasta salad, and a cannoli! The cannoli was excellent. The pasta salad had way too much dressing unfortunately that we couldn't enjoy it. The atmosphere of the market is very well done. The small shopping area is perfect to browse while standing in line to order, which by the way, you may have to wait a while to order when the line is long, as it seems to get super crowded at peak lunch time. The Mountain Goat is a hidden gem in Monteagle. I would have never picked this place for food on my own (It seemed too hippieish to me), but I was very wrong! It is fabulous!!! The sandwiches and salads are amazing. Even though I feel like I should be wearing a pair of Birkenstocks and wearing a Grateful Dead T-shirt when looking at the menu, the food has won me over to the dark side...LOL! I'm sorry, but I don't get the hype. Maybe I should have ordered something different. I asked the person taking my order what her favorite sandwich was and she replied, "the pesto". So that's what I ordered. The gf bread was ok but a little greasy after being grilled/pressed. The sandwich was just ok. It came with a bag of chips and a fountain drink. The service was fine but not over-the-top. No one was rude but not thrilled either. If you're driving through this area and you're hungry, I'd definitely eat here before fast food but I'm disappointed that I made the 30 minute drive to check it out. read more

Met relatives in Monteagle to go hiking at Cumberland State Park. Before we went hiking we stopped at MGM for lunch. We had never been so looked at the reviews. The reviews were good, for the most part. Some stated staff was not friendly, which we did not experience at all. In fact, I was trying to hurry when putting in my order since a line was forming, but the girl stated it was okay and to take my time. We got a half margherita and half cheese pizza (for the little ones). And wouldn't you know, the kids wanted the margherita slice! Food was good, service was excellent, and atmosphere was interesting with all the goat decor. We're definitely going back to try the sandwiches next time. read more

Amazingly delicious! We came here twice in our stay in sewanee. The first day I got the Always Sunny pizza without onions or peppers. It was the best "white pizza" that I've had. The pizza dough has the best taste. My husband got the Flying Pig sandwich (not pictured because he devoured it). The second day I got the Gooey sandwich and he got the Ragin Cajun sandwich. Staff was pretty unhelpful and curt. After trying to order coffee with the cashier who didn't know what they had in stock, the barista was then rude toward US because we ordered decaf, half and half, and heavy cream, none of which they had. Finally when we got our coffee, the cup was messy and no napkins were offered. Upon tasting, the latte was very off. It just tasted like Folgers instant coffee with a dab of milk, and something... nutty...? The Zebra was very creamy, but tasted like a white-chocolate-forward hot chocolate, pretty sweet but not appetizing... Not worth the money or energy trying to deal with this staff... As a plus, Market was cute and had several unique gift options. But even then, the staff rudely brushed by me in the small aisles of the market without any polite "excuse me" or "behind" or anything. read more

The Mountain Goat is the best lunch spot on the mountain. Their sandwiches are wonderful and their pizza . . . their pizza!!! I thought I'd had the best pizza in my life when I visited Italy. The Mountain Goat's margherita pizza wins over Italy hands down. I finish the entire 8" pizza, so I don't have room for dessert. My friends rave about the sweets.
