I don't know what's the hype about Matsumoto's when you've got Magic Mountain Shave Ice! Honestly, THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT. I like snow ice too, but this place is an original. It's owner has been there since it's opening and she's super generous. Heck, the place is generous in general! There's even a sign saying "We try our best, but should you have white spots, please come to the front, we would be glad to fill them up!" -- or some alternate version in that context. They have choke flavors buu, and by choke I mean a lot of good ones! I personally recommend the creamy flavors. And there are several toppings for 50 cents each. They include items like: ling hing mui, azuki beans, vanilla ice cream (goes at the bottom), snow cap (condensed milk), and mochi. I love this place, it's worth your money, the workers are awesome. Usually when I see little shave ice kiosks they tend to not live up to par. Especially when theres Matsumoto's and Waiola to grab shave ice from. But this place centered between Old Navy and Lowes is a gem that not much people think of due to those popular places on the island. It's nearby in Waikele so easy for Waipahu, Ewa, Pearl City people to get to as opposed to driving out to North Shore or into town. I think this place matches up with those places and is a great alternative. Nice place to stop by while shopping the outlets too. I usually get Lilikoi, Mango, and Lychee (best combination ever if you ask me) topped with snow cap and Ice cream at the bottom. Be sure to bring cash! I'd been dying to try this place out. Living in Ewa Beach, the closest place to me is the Ewa Seed Company. I was really hoping it would be as great as everyone says it is, but to be honest, I was slightly disappointed. They charge $3 for a small which is a good size, and the toppings (mochi, condensed milk, ice cream, etc.) cost an extra $.75 each. Today I got three flavors with mochi and ice cream. I like that they put the mochi on top, whereas Ewa Seed Co. puts it on the bottom with the ice cream. Well, after I started chomping down the ice, it had a few chunks if you know what I mean. They have a sign that says they try hard to cover all "white spots", but they will happily add more syrup if you want! That was a plus! Flavors were good though. My bf and I decided to try this spot out after shopping. It's literally just a kiosk in the middle of Old Navy and Sports Authority. We've passed this place a few times on previous visits to Waikele but never really thought about buying anything from them. My cousin mentioned this place one day saying that it had "pretty good shave ice". It was also a hot day so alas, we finally did. The shave ice is big for its size, almost as big as the small in Shimazu. For comparisons sake when I eat some place new for the first time, I usually order something that I've ordered at another establishment (that sells the same thing). In this case, I ordered lilikoi and lychee syrup and I compared it to the same flavors from Matsumoto's and Waiola. The consistency of the ice was also a major factor. The verdict? This shave ice is way better then Matsumoto's but Waiola's is better. The syrup was also good. I love sweet stuff but sometimes I can't stand too much of it. Luckily, the liliko and lychee syrup they had was perfect. It wasn't bland but it wasn't too sweet either. It wasn't until we finally pulled up that I understood why my GPS had failed to get me to it-it is a stand, not a store *big duh*. One of my favorite places to get shave ice, this place is in the same class as the heavy hitter shave ice joints on the island, and you wouldn't believe it until you try it. Most shave ice places fill you cup then pour the syrup over. That may leave some unflavored ice spots in your cup. Magic Mountain fills your cup halfway, pours the syrup, tops your cup off, then pours the syrup again making sure you don't have any white spots in your shave ice. Ice Cube would call that a Good Day. I always get ice cream with my shave ice, and the ratio of ice to ice cream is on point. The ice has one of the better textures out there - if anyone tells you that the texture of the ice doesn't matter, just walk away cause you don't need that kind of negativity in your life. They offer a lot of flavors with some you may not find at other places, and for what they charge, you may just want to get every topping available. They offer 3 sizes. The large is ginourmous, medium is huge, and as much as I hate to admit it, the kiddie size is just right for me. Food trucks at Waikele Shopping Outlets. They give SO MUCH in a serving! They have cream flavours which is the syrup mixed in with condensed milk, all the extras like azuki and ice cream etc etc... You can create your own combos or alternately they've got pre-combined ones like pineapple li-hing mui. I got the lychee cream, banana and azuki, which in hindsight, was too sweet.
