If you're ever near the mountain town of Oakhurst, CA, you have to stop in at the Mountain Oaks Cafe. Now this has only been my 2nd time here but I tell you the food is outstanding, the wait staff courteous and attentive, and the meals are reasonably priced. Tonight's dinner was the Steak Bites for starters and this appetizer is a meal unto itself. Juicy tender steak, garlic triangles and the most out of this world cheesy bbq sauce that you have to try to believe. Next came the Albondigas soup which was out of this world good. I would put this against ANY Albondigas and it would win hands down. Entree was Tri-Tip, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and more of the garlic bread (yummy). Tri-tip was juicy, tender, with a nice smoke ring and bark. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy were delicious. The seasonal veggies had the right amount of seasoning and butter, of course everything goes better with butter. The garlic bread / toast was the same from the steak bites and just as delicious. There was no room left for desert and that's twice now. I'm going to have to go back and just get desert. I wish I took a pic of the soup but it was gone before I even thought about it. I did get pics of the appetizer and entree. Like I said, this is a must stop in Oakhurst. Try it and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been here a few times now since I got here in May. I had the special of the day the first time. It was green enchiladas. No complaints at all, generous portions, fast service and very friendly staff. Why I came back the next week was because I saw the fish and chips while I was there the first time. I took over half of it home! A huge plate of fish and chips. It was very good and came with soup or salad and steamed veggies. You can't beat the price for the quality and quantity! The food was delicious! I highly recommend the banana bread pudding French toast to anyone with a sweet tooth, but the pancakes were my favorite, not crazy sweet but right on the money with flavor. Came here twice, and ordered the tri tip omelette, a lot better than the pork chorizo omelette. Service was impeccable, different servers coming to check on us and helping us out, definitely a team effort from a group of hardworking individuals. We sat outside and the view was wonderful with breakfast. The sun hitting you in some cold weather to start off the day is top tier. I had the chili colorado omelet and lacked flavor. My food came out cold. Yuck!I had to put Tabasco all over it just to get it down. The best part of my meal was the side of fruit. The patio was nice and we enjoyed ambiance but the service was poor and they never came to our table to refill our waters. We will probably never eat here again. :( read more

I had chicken avocado bacon sandwich. The chicken had to be so cheap as it was like rubber! My husband had a burger and he said it was very overcooked and seemed to have been microwaved. Know in advance that this restaurant charges you extra for the "privilege" of paying by credit card. SHAME ON THEM FOR NOT DISCLOSING THIS BEFORE IT IS TIME TO PAY!!! Our food was decent and portion sizes were fairly large. The waiter did NOT offer me the choice of side dishes that the menu said I should have been able to choose from. (I wanted rice pilaf, which was one of the listed options but instead was given fries.) I ordered the seafood dinner, which came with the strangest shrimp scampi I have ever had. My partner ordered the salmon dinner. The servers are generally unprofessional, hanging out in the entryway and raising a fair ruckus because they didn't have enough to do. Once our food was delivered, we did not see our server again. A different staff member came by later on to deal with our check. Bottom line: I wouldn't refuse to eat here again BUT I wouldn't be in a hurry to do so either. read more

We were looking for something hearty and delicious on our way back to LA from Yosemite. This place did not disappoint! The service was amazing-- Taralee greeted us with warmth and made us laugh too. Valentine was our server and he was excellent! A plus service and very friendly/ understanding when I misunderstood the cinnamon bun French toast (it's an actual cinnamon bun). In addition, the server's assistant was very attentive. Pros: French Toast -- yum! Super thick and well made. The eggs were perfection. The sourdough toast is quality, extra tasty. We went up the hill to our go to place, Southgate Brewery. Despite the place not even being halfway full, they said the wait was 35 minutes so I jumped on Yelp to see what else I could find. Man am I glad that I did! This place was incredible! Huge selection of food. Reuben and BLTA sandwiches were some of the best we have had. Fries and ranch were also good. Super fast as well as I think we were in and out in under 45 minutes. Think this is our new go to place in Oakhurst. read more

We were in town visiting Yosemite National Park and came across this cafe. We were seated upon arrival, and the ambiance looked relaxed. After a long day of hiking at YNP, we were starving. We started with chicken wings. They were sauteed with their buffalo sauce. I ordered the Fish Tacos. I couldn't finish them because it was a lot of food. The mango salsa added flavor to the tacos. 10/10.My boyfriend ordered the rib eye steak with a generous amount of food. The steak had the option of soup or salad. The soup of the day was menudo. We were surprised by how good the menudo was and wished we had ordered a giant bowl. Service was excellent; our waitress was friendly and checked on us frequently. What a nice surprise! We were tired of fast food so stopped by this place after a day at Bass Lake. Staff was friendly and prompt. Serving sizes were HUGE. My wife and I came to this restaurant TWICE during our stay in Oakhurst--it was THAT good. We were in town for some days checking out Yosemite National Park. Mountain Oaks Cafe was our first dinner stop during our stay. It was located in a shopping mall off the main road--entering, it felt new/modern. There was plenty of seating on a Sunday evening around 6 PM. Tables are well spread out. Our servers during both visits were very nice and courteous. They were attentive to our needs and checked in with us numerous times throughout the meal. In our first visit I order their famous "Fish n Chips" plate--8 pieces of golden hand beer battered cod with a side salad and sweet potato fries. HUGE PORTIONS. SO. MUCH. FISH. The quality and quantity were worth the cost. The fish was super flaky and the batter was not overly fried. It came out perfect. Combine it with lemon and their tartar sauce and you have a winning plate. The sweet potato fries were also crispy and delicious. Highly recommend the Fish n Chips if you're SUPER HUNGRY or if you're looking to split the plate with someone else. In our 2nd visit (days and miles of hiking later), I ordered the Blackened Chicken Pasta--tender chicken breast, bow tie pasta with smoked bacon, sun dried tomatoes, and mushrooms in a creamy Alfredo sauce topped with Parmesan. It came with a side salad and buttered toast. Another LARGE PORTIONED plate. The flavoring was wonderful, not overly spicy at all, just a small, delicious kick in the back of my mouth. I had a strawberry lemonade on the side which was refreshing and delicious as well. Overall had an amazing experience during both dinner visits, would highly recommend Mountain Oaks Cafe if you're looking for quality AND quantity. Very cute little place. I'm not sure if they have a ramp for ADA access. . . we climbed the little stair way to the restaurant. Didn't seem like many but when you're tired, cold and your Bones hurt it's a struggle. We were quickly greeted and seated. He sat us by the window and it was so cold. I had to keep my jacket and sweater on. When looking around I saw everyone else had there's on too. ***I forgot pictures AGAIN ‍*** We ordered a senior meatloaf dinner. It came with about 3 slices of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables and your choice of soup or salad. We went with the chili. I had the fish and chips. We also had a mini cherry pie (of course we had to eat that first). The pie was ok (mom loved it). The crust lost its crispness when it was microwaved. The meatloaf was tasty. The mashed potatoes must have been heated in the microwave because the middle was warm but the outer edges were very cold. The veggies were hot and still had a bite (a little hard still. . . mom didn't like that). The chili was hearty. It looked like it had chunks of ground beef and maybe chunks of steak. It had shredded cheese and sour cream (we asked for no onions) and a side of crackers. I probably would have been very satisfied with that. The fish was really good. I think it was 4 or 5 pieces, fries, and coleslaw. I asked for the fries extra crispy and they were. I loved them. We had so much food leftover. We could have shared one meal. My daughter's pasta was pretty good and the house salads brought out were yummy -! But my tacos were not good, the description said jack cheese, I said no jack cheese. They still put cheese on my Tacos. They were t gross but I didn't cheese on fish tacos. I am sure the breakfast food is fine. I may give that chance we shall see. read more

We decided to stop here for dinner on our way home one evening. The place is a fairly typical cafe. It was clean and well maintained with comfortable surroundings. The menu is fairly big, and there were a lot of options. We chose the country fried streak and the clam chowder. The food was good without being great. The portions were fair, and there was nothing to complain of. What WAS great was the service! Our server was friendly, quick, efficient and accurate. Employees greeted us when we came, and thanked us for coming as we left. Another superior aspect was the price. It's very hard to find a good dinner for two for under $35! We will go back again. Stopped here on way back from Yosemite. Easy peasy right off road and seated right away. Very expensive menu with something for everyone.
