My husband and I were in Big Bear for our anniversary and discovered Mountain Room Escapes. The price was very reasonable compared to what we are used to seeing in Orange County. We booked The Inventor's Workshop because The Cabin sounded a little creepy, which is not our thing. When we got there, the hosts were good enough to tell us that this was their hardest room, so might be a little challenging since there were only two of us (no one else had booked for that evening) and this was only our second time doing an escape room. They offered us the opportunity to switch, but did confirm that The Cabin is a little creepy, so we decided to stick with our choice. All the staff were very friendly as they explained the rules to us and gave us tips before we began, and gave us helpful clues when we asked for them (and even asking us if we wanted help when we were obviously struggling but hadn't asked for any assistance yet.) There was a lot of variety in the puzzles in this room-- all very creative, fun, and some very challenging. We definitely would not have been able to do it on our own, but with their help (and a little dumb luck) we did manage to finish with one minute to spare and them cheering us on. Our only *very* small complaint was that with the dim lighting in the rooms (which fit the story/ atmosphere) and our older eyes, we had trouble reading/making out some of the small words/symbols that were necessary to solve some of the puzzles; we were allowed to take our cell phones into the room with us, so those helped a little with the lighting. I would definitely recommend Mountain Room Escapes to anyone visiting the Big Bear area. We had a great time. read more

This was the first time I had ever heard of or tried to escape from a room. I went with husband Jim and friends Susan and Ernst. We worked well together, finding and figuring out clues but just couldn't quite make it out of the room. Recommend it for everyone. Loads of fun. read more

That was so much fun and totally hard. This was my first escape room. My daughter and her family had done them before so they had a good idea of what to do. I in the other hand had not a clue. We escaped with 5 minutes to go it took all hands on deck. Wish we'd made it to the bonus room. You have to escape with 15 min or more to get to the bonus room. For our honeymoon my fiance and I went to the Escape and invited my sister and brother in law and we had a BLAST. None of us had ever been to a room escape before but we love puzzles and being challenged and this absolutely had both. Matt and Marilyn were so friendly and really made us feel at home. First time for me and my husband and it was amazing! We did The Cabin and didn't think we were going to get out in time but we escaped with 14 minutes to spare. When we arrived the staff was super helpful and gave detailed instructions before we started and even after the room we got to try a little bit of the virtual reality. Most people come to Big Bear because of the snow and skiing. Others come for the Octoberfest. If you have time, make this escape room a stop, too! We had a blast at Mountain Room Escapes. Two rooms are conveniently located in the Village, where we were able to grab food beforehand. They also have a third room in Big Bear City. Having done about 20 rooms in Southern California, we were impressed with this one in a small town. Matt was our gracious host but also happened to be the owner and creator of Escape the Cabin. He greeted us with a cute little puppy that he'd recently rescued. You can tell he is an overall good guy who loves story-telling and making puzzles. Before even entering the room, he led us in the dark through the woods to his cabin prompting us with what we were about to escape from. It was a little creepy but fit in well with the storyline. The puzzles were fun and witty; one of which made me laugh. We managed to get out in record time with just two people! Somehow the stars aligned that day, and we whipped through all the puzzles with plenty of time to spare. Part of me wants to think it's because my husband's name is also Matt and somehow he was channelling brain waves with owner Matt! We were so proud of ourselves. Matt the owner was impressed and let us have a crack at his other room, Inventor's Workshop, but this one was way more challenging. We were stumped a few times but really enjoyed the puzzles in this one. It'd be better for a larger group who has some experience. Both rooms are great and highly recommended! Awesome! This was a great family activity; we had 2 adults, a 9 year old, a 12 year old, and a 14 year old. We didn't quite know what to expect and were a little skeptical, but it was well worth the time and money! Great team building/bonding activity! My sister and I had never done an escape room before, and we loved it! She's a self-professed "fraidy cat," and was hesitant, but it's definitely more thrilling than scary! The puzzles are challenging and inventive, and the story is fun and immersive. The staff is very helpful with hints if you need them and walk you through it at the end (and let you finish if you were seconds away like we were!). Definitely check in on social media beforehand! This place is awesome. It was my first time in an escape room and my team was just me and a couple celebrating a birthday. The theme was locked in a ski chalet after an avalanche. The manager was real nice and helpful and helped to make the experience more fun. I would definitely do it again when he creates the sequel. read more

Fantastic experience for my whole family including the kids. There were 7 of us total. 3 adults and 4 kids and we had a blast. Would highly recommend every family, couple, anyone on vacation try this escape room. The person running the escape room was wonderful, told us how to get a discount code to book online and answered all our questions for us as this was the first time we were doing an Escape Room. The kids are already asking to do another one. We went over Thanksgiving week. This review is long overdue. Thank you Mountain Room Escapes for a great adventure.
