Janey's Coffee Co & Bodega is truly a treasure. Set back from the main road (Cave Creek), I was…read moremildly surprised at how busy it was on a late Sunday Afternoon. I say "mildly suprised" because once we walked up to the actual coffee house we heard the live music on the large back patio. One of our absolutely favorite local artist, Aaron Howard was performing, and he definitely brings in a crowd. It was busy, as I mentioned, but not too crowded, and we found a good table towards the back. As it was the begging of the hot weather this spring, we were very grateful for the generous-sized table umbrellas. But first, we went inside the Bodega to order a Beer and a snack. They have a great selection of Beer and wine! And since we were still 2 hours or so away from dinner, we decided to grab a veggie & cheese board, which had a nice variety of cruditè and humas. It was very satisfying for 2 adults. We spent.a total of about 2 hours there and left there knowing we would be coming back to Janey's. Side note: For those of you who need accessibility, I myself am on an electric scooter for ambulating. The parking lot is dirt and only has a couple of handicap parking spots. But no space is more than approximately 150 ft from the entrance to Janey's. Once you get to the building, it is very easy to get in and out of the main bodega, with wide, level doorways. The doors were propped open when we visited. I did not utilize the restroom on this visit.

However, what' will keep us from going back is the no-personality service. Been there twice in the afternoon and both times the service was stoic. For us friendly service tops everything. Nobody wants to feel like you're inconveniencing the employees.

Albeit we're 'in season' here in AZ so prob. more crowded than usual, but service and food did not suffer because of it. Hubby had chile verde with beef rather than pork--loved it. Both our friend and I had the pollo fundito and it was excellent. LOTS of crema and that's a bonus! Had half to take home for tomorrow! Environment can be loud w/the large crowds, screaming kids chasing the ducks and turtles in the pond, but overall a beautiful, seemingly authentic Mexican feel. Can't wait to return!

There are turtles and ducks swimming and resting on the rocks that surround pond. Very entertaining. We had the great pleasure of having Calvin as our server. We started with margaritas on the rocks. My go to is the chicken enchiladas pequeno mole. It comes with a side of rice and black beans. I am dairy sensitive and Calvin made sure my order was without cheese. The mole is so very flavorful and the chicken is so tender. I fully recommend this dish. The one enchilada with rice and beans is just enough. I saw when driving home there is a second location that is closer to the interstate. Will have to try that location sometime. But then I probably wouldn't have Calvin's as my server. Calvin is the best!

The classic afternoon tea on the menu was perfect for what I wanted. There was a great variety on the tea menu too. The sandwiches were delicious and I got 2 of each, which is a great deal because places usually give 1. The scones were great, although I would prefer if it didn't have powdered sugar. There was also a watermelon macaron that I didn't really like but the server was able to give me a different flavor. She was a really great and attentive server as well. I would absolutely come to this place again, but I'm not sure when I'll be back in town. Loved it! I totally forgot to mention that they put the tea leaves directly in the pot and not into a strainer. You're not supposed to do this when brewing tea because the tea leaf flavor will burn and become bitter. I drank the tea fairly quickly because of this. I suggest they change that feature.

We went for Valentine's Day and I did not realize it was a fixed menu but should have guessed as…read moremany places do for this holiday and others. I chose the butternut soup for the appetizer as did my wife. For the entree I chose the steak with mashed potatoes and my wife chose the sea bass. Both were good but not great. Both our entrees and the soup was served warm versus hot so that was a little disappointing. For dessert we tried the lavender lemon gateau and it was very nice and light. What was disappointing was the server. He was pleasant but not attentive and the restaurant was definitely not busy at the time we were there. We asked for the heater to be turned on and waited for over 15 minutes while we were getting colder. I had to go inside and ask someone else to get it going as well as bringing my wife's wine. While we did say we could wait a bit to order he did not come by as often as he should have and we had flag him down to get our order in. The couple next to us that we started chatting with were also disappointed as they asked for a martini with cheese stuffed olives and it arrived with olives with pimento which she was allergic to. He never said they did not have the right olives and she noticed it and did not eat them but chastised the server for the mistake and he said he knew they were out but neglected to tell them. He seemed slow overall and combined with poor timing and warm versus hot food we were unimpressed and will not be returning. It is a shame as the resort is quite nice and this puts a damper on the overall experience. I hope they read this and make adjustments to raise the bar.

Arrived on a Sunday at 1 pm and were seated in a corner booth. All wood booth, seating is tight for 7 and would be near impossible for 8. Hard straight up back. Glad i brought coat to sit on although it was a bit cool inside too. Old western style decor inside. A little crowded and noisy but since we were huddled in a tight booth, we had good conversations compared to other places. Seating outside with fair number of people but heaters didn't appear to be on - I would have been cold outside. Mostly picnic table seating outside; sitting next to road although fenced in. Some pups with patrons. Service good overall but fairly slow. Lilly had to go verify the special for the day. My burger came several minutes after other entries arrived - weird. I had the horny toad burger with fries - great fries! Burger had brisket with bacon too - it was fairly good. We also had onion rings as appetizer which were fairly good beer battered style. Others had the Cod and taco's, but the bday girl had liver an onions which she said were very good. Everyone liked the taco's and chips that came with them. The creamed corn was just ok, and coleslaw fairly good. No offer of little dessert for bday girl which was surprising given we told the waitress this and made reservation just for the occasion. Drinks were good overall. Beautiful drive to get there, but doubtful we will be back much. Value was ok for what we got but nothing tremendously special.
