Somewhere in between two and three stars, but I generally like to give places the benefit of the doubt. I am a HUGE fan of M3, so I decided to give Moxie's a try assuming it would at least be similar quality, while not expecting the same types of food available at the other location. However, the quality was just not on par that evening. The standard bar trio of wings, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers was ordered. And while the flavor was decent on all of the items, the fry guy was apparently getting distracted in the back and over-doing it a bit. The chicken ended up bone dry so much that the ranch couldn't fix it. The mozzarella sticks ended up spewing their cheesy goodness all over the plate, and the wings were on the other side of too crispy. However, there is a great selection of beer and wine, and the bartender was super friendly and attentive. Rather than relying on this location for food, I'll head there for a drink next time. read more

Went here because I had a gift certificate; had lunch with my dad. Was not impressed at all neither was my dad. Chicken wasn't cooked all the way through in sandwich. Fly buzzing around window. The atmosphere and waiter were lacking; waiter tried to stiff me. I had to explain to him that I was shorted (he didn't deduct gc). There is more but I don't want to list. read more

So rude. Came in with a group of 12. Were told when seated that we can do separate checks. When the waiter came over, this came into question. He got the manager who said it was policy not to do separate checks. Ok, it's a big hassle for us, but we agreed. The waiter walked off without taking our order. Shows up 15 minutes later to take our order. When one friend had a question about an item, he says we have to hurry because he has other things to do. We were already questioning the service when he said this. We all decided right then that we did not want to eat here. I paid for the beer I ordered and told the manager of our reason for leaving. SUMMARY: Dead bug in cottage cheese, and bad customer service Oh how things have changed . . . a little over 3 years ago, I wrote how this place seemed upscale . . . I'm not sure if it's my tastes that have changed or the place. Part of me wants to just rip into this place, as our recent experience there was so crappy, but I'm going to try and be level-headed . . . In general, the food is fine, nothing special - burgers, sandwiches, and a few dinner entrees. Nothing amazing, but usually okay. Views from the place are still nice. Generally, this would get a 3 star review, but my last experience there was way off, hence the drop to a single star. In any case, we stopped in here on a Thursday evening. My GF had been on crutches for a few days (still waiting to see an orthopod for the verdict), and had wanted to get out of the apartment, so I suggested Moxies, mainly for the view. Weather was nice, so when we got there, I popped my head in, checked with the bartender if we could sit outside, and he said go ahead. I opened the little side gate so my GF could crutch on over to the empty patio, where we take a table, and the bus boy brings out menus, setting, and water pretty much right after we were seated. Things started going downhill from there. We're sitting around, enjoying the weather and view, but commenting on how no one has come to serve us, and she's ready to hop on over to Green Papaya. During the wait, I'm trying to peek inside, seeing if I can make eye contact with anyone, but the windows have a reflective coating on them, so no luck, and I opt for patience over getting up. I tend to be overly forgiving and patient, so I'm like give them 10 more minutes, which she agrees to . . . eventually a waitress does come out (15 minutes after we had been seated, and maybe 7 after we had made the 10 minute deal). She explains that there was some confusion with her and the other server about who had which zones . . . doesn't bother me too much (mistakes happen), but it does set the tone. The GF orders the zone - pick a protein and two sides (hamburger, cottage cheese, and salad) and I get a mushroom Philly and a Lagunitas IPA. Food comes out, and looks pretty good - we're both craving cottage cheese, so we both take a small bite of the cottage cheese on her plate - a largish ice cream style scoop in a small bowl on the plate. I comment on how it hits the spot, and she agrees, and the she sticks her fork into the cottage cheese, and turns it, preparing for her next bite. At this point, she finds a large piece of wilting (rotting?) lettuce, and a dead insect (large gnat?) in the center of it - both of which must have been in the cottage cheese to start as it's in its own little bowl, and this is at the bottom of the scoop of cottage cheese. Not the most pleasant thing to find in your meal, and enough to turn her off to the prospect of eating food of any sort from Moxies. Fears of scraping food from other customer's plates, unsanitary kitchens, etc win out over my attitude that "stuff" happens. In any case, I ask her what she wants to do and she says she doesn't want to eat, but I should go ahead - which I do . . . the mushroom Philly and salad are fine (tomato chunks in the salad does have some pieces from the stem or with blemishes, but nothing that bothers me). The waitress eventually comes back, checking in on us, at which point the GF points out the insect and green-ish leaf in her cottage cheese, and saying she doesn't want the food. The waitress apologizes, and asks what my GF wants, offering to comp her food, which is fine. In any case, we get the check, and it ends up they've comped my meal, instead of hers. It's only a dollar difference, and we're done trying to hail anyone down (since we can't see through the reflective glass), and I pay the extra dollar, leaving a note of "Wrong comp :(" on the ticket, though I still tip $2 on the $16.55 check, (half of what I'd usually tip). I've never actually gotten a bug in my food before, so I'm not sure what the apropos response from the restaurant should be - I asked around a bit afterwards, and have heard everything from the whole meal should be comped, the kitchen staff should apologize, or that we should have just left. Whatever - I'm not vindictive, but I think since they offered a comp, and something had obviously gone wrong in the kitchen, they should have made sure that they didn't make any more mistakes - screwing up the comp just shows a lack of attention to customer service. Just had a terrible lunch post pictures somewhere on Yelp. New to this but this needed to be shared. My daughter ordered grilled ham and cheese had to send back because the cheese was not melted. It came back almost burnt and cheese still not melted. She ate half and picked the other half up to eat and there was no ham. My sandwich came out with the grossest shriveled up lettuce and over done beef. We mentioned to our waiter and he said " I am not the cook". That s it for me. read more

Really good food here and even better service. We came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch and all ordered a cocktail. The server was friendly and very accommodating. The drinks were nice and strong, too. The food was also really tasty. I had the Ruben Sandwich with fries. In a word; delicious. My husband had the clam chowder and fajitas and said it was "bomb." My mother-in law enjoyed a patty melt while my father-in-law had a shrimp-louie salad. The food was all great and delivered rather quickly. The place wasn't packed, but it is kinda tucked away. My favorite hideaway in the whole world has gotten dumpy. My husband had a portobello burger. His fault he thought it had meat no meat which is ok. But the sandwich came with entirely to many onions and the portobellos were squishy and tasteless. Fries were overcooked. Plus he got sick from the sandwich the next day. I had the salmon salad. The salmon was too mushy and so so salty. It wasn't not a good meal. Prices ok and the service was good. I will continue to go but will have to rethink eating. read more

Moxie's is the coolest bar in Caughlin Ranch. It's at the top of Caughlin Parkway. They have decent pub grub, and several beers on tap, including one IPA. They used to have Dogfish IPA, now they have Lagunitas, both great IPA's. I've never had a bad meal here, and I usually sit in the bar area and get great service. If you play the video games, I like video Blackjack instead of poker (money tends to last longer), the drinks are usually comped! read more

If I may set the record straight here among folks rating this place between 1 and 4 stars. The food at this location is actually very good. I dined there last night and had the special (tri-tip with cream of broccoli soup and penne pasta) and couldn't get enough. It was a Sunday evening when it's not super busy and had an enjoyable experience (as I usually do when I visit this location). Kat was the bartender and did such an outstanding job. She's so friendly, attentive, and spot on with orders. I could tell she is very well liked with her regulars. I've been to this location on a number of occasions and have never once had a bad meal or bad service experience. Amie (server) is always fantastic and Scott (bartender) is dynamite and just a cool guy to chat with. The selection of wines and spirits is outstanding for a venue that caters to both food service and cocktails. The ambiance is absolutely awesome as it's simple, contemporary, and has one of the most stunning views of Reno / Sparks from above. All the servers are friendly, attentive, and knows everyone (regulars). It's like visiting the Cheers bar. The prices are fair for a more upscale neighborhood restaurant and is super clean and well taken care of. Thanks again for such a great experience, Moxie's. You can't trust the managements or the waitstaff at this establishment!! Hubby went to a place called M3 for lunch on a Wednesday. (He said the service was horrible since the waitress had friends she was waiting on.) I saw the pending transaction for $16.83. Today I go reconcile everything and the cleared transaction was for $36.83. I'm like "What??" I ask hubby about it. He pulls his copy of the receipt out of his wallet & confirms he only left a $3 tip. I wonder how many other people's cards that waitress has fraudulently upped her tips on? Her name is "Samama" according to the receipt. Hubby went in to discuss the situation w/ a manager. He was told there wasn't a manager on site at the time. (WHAT??? I've worked in many restaurants and there was NEVER a time a manager was NOT there. RED FLAG!) The hostess says "well, we have a girl here name Sam who has been here forever and she'll know what to do." Sam walks up and listens to hubby, all the while smiling and nodding. Yup....this is the same "Samama" as the receipt shows waited on him. She of course didn't recognize him. Once he pulls out the receipt and the photo on the phone of the bank transaction she goes from smiling and nodding to looking like a deer in the highlights. 1 day later hubby finally gets a call back from Kathy (the manager). It appears that the same manager handles all three Moxies in town and splits time between all of them during the day. That's why she wasn't there yesterday and today. Apparently "Sam" is so reliable that the managers don't need to check up as often at the M3 on McCarran. She has been there 15 years and is totally trustworthy... Anyway, the manager went back through the charges and discovered it was an "error" in the tip. I was told that someone else in the party tipped 2 bucks and she accidentally swapped my 3 dollar tip with theirs and accidentally added a 0 behind my new 2 dollar tip. In truth I believe it is just a bunch of whitewash BS to cover her employee. Not to mention that someone else in my party got over charged a dollar on a tip. (Hubby checked w/ the others he dined with...they all left cash for a tip. This excuse is BS!) Kathy offered hubby a 25 dollar gift card to make up for the "mistake". Hubby said no thank you as we wouldn't use it either way. Kathy then offered to rerun the card to put the overcharge back into my account. Hubby again said No Thanks to that as well, he didn't feel like accidentally tipping 100% again. So Kathy left 20 bucks at the bar for hubby to pick up when I was able. Unfortunately Sam wasn't there to give hubby the money. She was off somewhere being totally trustworthy. So it looks like the wheel will keep spinning there. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens again to other customers. It just won't be us! read more

Great views, great bar, really good food. Very nice and attentive staff, too. Plus, nice mellow lighting. You can sit in the action round the bar, catch the game... or outside in nice weather, enjoy the best view in town... or off in an intimate quiet corner. My fave dish: The salmon, blackened. I've had it all over town, and this place prepares it best, hands down. This is the kind of nice place with reasonable prices that you compare all other restaurants to. read more

Moxie's deserves an update. Went in tonight because the weather was bad and this is the most convenient place to eat. They have a menu that fits anyone and the food is always great. The scene and dining and bar environment is awesome. Had the Santa Fe burger and it was one of the best burgers ever. There is no reason why anyone should not try Moxie's. read more

If you feel old or wrinkled and this is a first or second date, this is a great place to have your man take you, because it is so very dark. Even with my reading glasses, I had extreme difficulty making out the menu. That said, there are some beautiful views of the valley, and the food and menu seem a cut above the standard bar/restaurant fare. The quality of food, the service, and the value are good. BTW, I also had the portobello mushroom sandwich, and unlike another reviewer found it better than average with no ill side effects! read more

Went for lunch at Moxie's today with the family 4 adults, 2 kids and my dog. Sat outside where there was plenty of shade available! They were quick to bring us menus and allowed us to move the tables & umbrellas however we needed to suit us. The guys working were all pleasant and happy to serve us, including bringing a bow of water out for my dog. The food was fast, affordable and delicious! For all 6 of us to eat the bill was only $67 + change... we only drank water so that may have kept the bill down but I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to dine out with your pup and family! read more

Lunch time or a bit after, the place was not busy. Sat on the patio with the nice view and weather. Was greeted by a guy who I guess is my friend since this is how he referred to us. Waitress came, brought drinks and took the order, Ordered the fish and chips of which I will say it is lucky I do not dislike burnt bits. I have been going to this particular Moxie's for a long time with my mother and father, and I have never been disappointed ( and neither have they) with the food, the service, or the atomosphere. We usually go to eat fairly early, before 5pm so we don't get hit with big crowds, and each time, the server was always very polite and friendly. I have also gone in by myself for lunch. We have tried many different plates, and what I like is the food here is consistent. Food can vary widely in the same restaurant depending on the chef. I've tried the Atkins plate, the salmon, chicken parmesan, and some of the appetizers, as well as many of the soups from split pea, to the absolutely delicious chicken enchilada soup, the clam and cauliflower chowder, and the salads...and I sometimes get food to go. There's a very wide variety of foods to really please everyone too, I love looking at their menu and all the good things they have to eat. Long ago, they also used to be open for breakfast, but I don't know why they stopped that, because the breakfast was good too. As long as this service and excellent food continues, my family and I are going to come here. Bonus for us too because we live a mile away :) read more

I have previously been to Moxie's in the evening but this was my first lunch. I was quite disappointed. The server was spot on with menus and drinks. I think he forgot us after that. Even though there were only a few other tables he didn't come back to us for about 15 minutes. I ordered the Italian grilled cheese with a cup of soup. When received, which didn't take long, it was half cooked. We were in a hurry by then so I ate it without complaint. It was tasty even though it was only warm. The funny part was that we saw our server run out the front door and down parking lot. He returned a couple of minutes later with a to-go bag from Casa Grande. So while running around I passed Moxies and remembered a friend raved about the Fried Chicken. So I ordered the Honey Dipped Fried Chicken, Fries and a Cherry Coke. I sat at a table near the bar so the bartender waited on me. I have to say even though he had other customers my Cherry Coke (Grenadine & Coke) never got empty before he refilled it. He took the time to explain the menu and was just very personable. He did explain that they do not make the Chicken in house but they have used the same kind for 10 years and everyone loves it but the Honey Mustard Sauce was made in house. What I received was 4 pieces of very nicely crispy chicken (a wing, leg, thigh and breast) that was not dry at all and had decent seasoning (wish it had a more pronounced sweetness from the Honey). I've never really been a fan of Honey Mustard dipping sauce because it's either too sweet or too tart. This one was Stone Ground Mustard and the right amount of Honey. I honestly couldn't stop dipping the chicken and nicely crispy fries in it. All in all for $11 for the Chicken, $2.50 for the Cherry Coke and a good tip cause the bartender was super on top of everything it was a good lunch. My husband and I went for dinner on Friday night. We opted for appetizers and ordered wings and fries, an artichoke, beef kabobs, and potato skins. I ordered the wings crispy and they came out that way. Sauce was good and fries were crunchy. Potato skins were also good with plenty of cheese and bacon. The artichoke unfortunately was really tough and unevenly cooked, so I opted to take it home and see if I could help it along with more steaming. Nope. Threw it out. The kabobs were super flavorful but a bit tough. Didn't stop us from eating them though. Service was good as always and the place is clean which can't be said for the NW location. All in all, the Caughlin Moxies can be counted on for being consistent and I am glad we live close by. read more

I don't know what problems our waiter was suffering from, but I think it unfair that he took out his displeasure on us with surliness, curtness, and impatience. We came here for lunch on a Saturday because it seemed kid-friendly. I got the Santa Fe sandwich with portabello mushroom and it was alright. The sandwiches come with a side and my salad was a good third of my plate, which I appreciated. My nephew got a side soup and it was so salty and pretty much inedible. The entree salads are very large and so are their appetizers. The service was not very good, however, probably because at lunchtime on the weekend they only had one waitress and one busboy. It took us a long time to get our check and pay which was annoying since we were a party of five plus two young children. read more

Give it a try. For some reason service is always slow here. Takes a while to get your menu, takes a while to get your drinks, takes a while to get your food, takes a while to get your drinks refilled, and takes a really long time to finally get your check. It always seems busy, and they have a large bar that's always chatty and busy, so they must be doing something right. Maybe the two times I've tried it I've just had an unusual bad experience. The food is good, and not your usual. I get what I believe is called the "Mediterranean" pasta. Has pine nuts in it. Good food, but just slow and a little impersonal. read more

Located on top the Reno foothills, this is a great place to grab a bite or enjoy a drink while you sit indoors and outdoors while you enjoy the panoramic view of downtown. They have a great selection of different burgers and sandwiches in addition to many traditional pub favorites. Like the last Yelper, I also had the Smashed Cuban Sandwich. I wouldn't call it a Cuban but it was so tasty! If you are visiting and have transportation, Moxie's is 5 to 10 minutes outside of downtown. This one is a winner! read more

The food was alright. The service was bad. When we initially walked in (my husband and I) we were told by the bartender that we could sit anywhere. It took 10 minutes for someone to talk to us and by that I mean I had to ask the busser for some water no one ever bother to introduce themselves or take our drink order. Normally moxies serves very good food But Saturday afternoon my husband and I took my grandson out for a late lunch. We ordered our meal at a little after 1 and didn't see the bartender- waiter until an hour later when he brought our food that had set under heat lamp for at least a half hour. It was extremely dry and hard. They need more supervision as the waiter talked with his friends at the bar and stared at the tv. We'll never go back to that moxie again. I recommend M-3. I've been going to this Moxies for about 10 years. Love the staff that has been there forever. Local causal bar with good pub fare and a nice selection of dinner items. They revamped the menu to mirror M3 and added a few new TV's. Breakfast on the weekends is always good! read more

Let me start by saying I would give this a 1 1/2 if I had given more notice than 6 hours that I had a large group coming. Keep in mind though, it's a Monday night not a Friday or Saturday. How much notice do business need? I'll never know. It's my birthday I guess I should have given a couple days notice? Can't be sure. I chose this venue because of the view, not crowded and the wide array of choices on the menu which are all reasonably priced. I was told more than 8 we'd be sitting in the dining area, not where I wanted to be as it's the opposite side and no view. I accepted and showed up. There is plenty of seating window side for my group, the 4 that came with me saw an opportunity to sit on the patio, so we asked to be seated outside. They made up the tables and we went outside. The server seemed perturbed that there was 6 of us by this time, but took a drink order. He promptly said, "There's an 18% gratuity for parties of 8 or more." Which is expected, but when he said, "No splitting of checks and that it's on the menu." Left me concerned. Oftentimes and I could be wrong, but the added gratuity is because people split checks in large groups and we all get it. There's generally room for negotiations, but it was black and white with this one. One of my friends asked if we could give multiple cards/payments? He was ok with that. 13 people showed up for my birthday dinner. My group added chairs to accommodate. I told them 11. It's always a crap shoot with parties, what can ya do. They just were not happy we were there, more like a burden. Obviously used to working a normal Monday shift and the extra company appeared to be uninvited. The server took our orders and drinks. It was a slow start, but they brought the food out eventually. One issue with a salad, no big deal it was corrected. Just with zero hospitality. I was a tad embarrassed. After the food was served, my group of 13 was offered no further drink orders, no dessert orders. Just given the check to divide amongst ourselves. So, my friend Marissa was in charge. We put the amounts due on each card with the last 4 digits of each card and handed it back. After some time, the server came back with a card. He seemed to be saying the card wasn't accepting payment, which is embarrassing when you have money. 13$ was the issue. Tip money, not a card issue.It was figured out. The server got his tip. 18%. We all agreed nothing more than the added gratuity. With my group, you'd make more money every time without the added gratuity. I went to Moxie's for lunch today. I had never been here before, but I was able to find it pretty easily. I ordered a Black N Blue chicken sandwich and it was delish! I'm a fan of bleu cheese and this was seasoned perfectly. Even with a group of 5 people they were pretty quick bringing out our food order. read more
