Went to Mozie's last night with fellow Yelpers before catching a show at Gruene Hall. This bar is in a great location on a corner from all the major stops in Gruene. The inside is like a long rectangle, with tiny tables and bar stools. This was my one issue with the place is that it can get cramped. We didn't eat the food so I can't say anything about that but I will say that the bar had a great beer menu, plus a wide variety of liquor drinks to pick from. I had my staple drink that I always get, Jameson on the rocks, and it was only $5.50 and was poured strong. This is a good place to come get a drink at before seeing a show at Gruene Hall because they serve liquor whereas Gruene Hall does not. Next time I will try the food. read more

Went in on a Sunday, and they were fairly full. There was only two of us and we were sat immediately at a high top table. We were given two menus and told the bar would be with us shortly. After waiting 20 min. and making eye contact with every employee there, we still received zero acknowledgment, or service. Needless to say we left without receiving any food or drink. I told the waitress we were leaving because we couldn't get service, to which she replied, "Oh...sorry, thanks and come back!" That's how you pour salt on a wound at the end. Great job, Mozie's! The service here has been lackluster for years, but somehow, you guys keep trucking along. Not sure how, but I dream of a day that I can run crap service all day, and still get people to over pay for subpar quality and service. read more

One thing about hanging out in Gruene is some of the great places don't have any AC. So on a hot fall day, it's nice that there is a shotgun bar for one to sit and sip a beer and cool down. The bar itself is just like the term Shotgun meant. Very long and narrow space, with a bar running the majority of the length of the establishment. They have a dozen or so tables towards the back as well as little 2-tops against the wall oppposite the bar. They had a few selections of draft beer, not an extensive list and fresh squeezed margarita's. This helps if you like your's a little more sweet than sour, since they can add as much sugar water as you would like to have. We came back before we headed out of town to get a bite and we were surprised with the quality of the food they had to offer. Not a big burger fan, but it seemed right that day since we have been walking all over the town shopping and having fun. My burger was cooked a little over medium they suggested, but the veggies were fresh as well as the bun and it was a fairly large tasty sammy. Both our different bartenders were happy and polite and got to orders promptly. Definitely will drop in each time we are in town. read more

For some reason, this ended up being my favorite bar in Texas. Long, like a NY bar...but REALLY long. Plus, there was a ton of room between the bar stools and the wall so there wasn't anyone bumping into you. Bartender was real friendly, despite my spastic order for the first round. "A shot of Jack. No wait, two. Oh an a beer. No wait, a shot of 1800 for this guy, and give him a chaser as well." Plus my new friends were ordering coffee. The dude had patience! Odd thing, the bar had a cop for a bouncer. Nice! I could have out run him though. Anyway, we were howling with laughter the entire time and I think that's what made it so enjoyable. But it was really well lit and clean too, which is not typical for any bar let alone a Texan cantina. Totally going back here if I'm in Gruene. Which will be never, but oh well. read more

Really nice, cool restaurant/bar in the fun lil town of Gruene. We took a day trip down on a heat-stifling September Saturday and were delighted to find this sports bar and grill parked in what used to be a bank (at some time or 'nuther in history). After shopping and walking around in the heat, it was sooo nice to get our chill on in the air-conditioned comfort of Mozie's interior. We sat at the bar (natch) and I had a very nicely concocted Tito's and soda with a large slice of super fresh lime. ("That sounds so good right now," she thinks as she slyly writes her review at work...) The place was pretty packed (lunch rush), and our bartenders were efficient and friendly. Went back after some more heated shopping, and I indulged in a large plate of fish tacos, perfectly grilled tilapia on fresh corn tortillas, spiced up with tasty slaw. My compadres ordered burgers, which looked really juicy and yummy. OK, I stole a bite from my beloved's plate and it was really good. We will definitely pop by again on our next trip to Greune. read more

I like Mozie's better than a lot of the other options in Gruene. The food is great and the service is usually fast. Last Friday I stopped in for a quick bite-my friend had a burger and I had the kebob appetizer-they were both delicious. What wasn't delish? The "bloody marys" that we got. I literally gagged at how thick the drink was-four of us ordered and not one of us finished more than a 1/4. They tasted like straight-thick tomato juice. We ordered beer instead. I have no idea why this isn't showing up as a 5 star restaurant! Absolutely the best cheeseburger I've ever eaten. The onion rings were to die for and the house made chips were amazing. Went here for my birthday with the wifey and some buddies. Apparently this was a closet some time ago but they've really done a nice job turning it into a bar. It's quite narrow, but the service is good and the food is yummy. I have been told Zeus himself created the sliders, but I opted for the Adult Grilled Cheese, and added Turkey. My heart was blissfully pumping Gouda for the rest of the week and I left very satisfied. As a New Braunfels local, I try to stay away from Gruene in general, but this is definitely worth a visit...if only for a drink. As an added bonus, one of the few bars in the area that does not allow smoking. read more

Wonderful! We "came in from the cold" to Mozies after enjoying beverages at the Grapevine. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. There were about 10 of us, but Ashley took very good care of us from start to finish. I wish I had taken a picture of my Lemon Drop martini--it was perfection! The Reuben was so big that my husband and I split it. It was delicious! And my son went on about the Grown Up Grilled Cheese Sandwich. We went last year while on our annual anniversary weekend trip to Gruene and weren't to impressed with the atmosphere. It's a long narrow room with a bar running down one side and tables running down the other side opposite the bar with a walkway in between (a little cramped) and all tables in the back (I think...I was kind of drunk by the time we got there). However, it was a very good experience this time and the bar staff was good. It's a nice central location in Old Gruene right across from The Grist Mill. read more

Tried this place last night with my husband and it was so good! We each got a frozen margarita, shared some of the onion rings and halved the spaghetti and meatballs which came with a side salad. It was a TON of food and way more than we could eat. The service was a little slow but they were busy and we weren't in a rush so we didn't mind. The food is usually amazing, but this time my med-rare sirloin was cooked med-well. I kept thinking it would be pinker in the middle but that never happened and by the end I was tired of chewing. My fault for not sending it back. My wife got the fried chicken and pasta dish (can't think of the name) and loved it. My kids even go on there own now for the great food. There are so many good places to eat in New Braunfels and Gruene that you can stay for days and not eat at the same place twice. But we visited Mozie's more than once! Went here for the first time yesterday and it was a great surprise. I'm new to town and live close to Mozies so went on my lunch break and it didn't disappoint. I got their chicken salad sandwich and garlic fries. The fries are absolutely amazing. Made me wanna lick my plate clean. The food was excellent! My only complaint was the confusion when we walked in. We weren't sure where to sit because there wasn't a greeter. We sat down at a table and waited 30 minutes, and no one came to give us a menu. We got up and moved closer to the back where other people were eating and then we were greeted by a waitress. I was looking for a light lunch, which is kind of hard to find in Gruene. I ordered the side order portion of the angel hair pasta with chipotle cream sauce and a side salad. Maybe the food is good but would have thought I was back in California coming in to this establishment. We had a a party of 6 and was told we would need to split the tables. On a Tuesday evening when they were not busy. I get it, Covid. But there was plenty of space and the manager was not willing to budge. Even in CA we are allowed to have 6 to a table. During a time when many small business are struggling to survive, you would think management would have some better business smarts. If you have a small group, less than 5 sure come on in. Nice atmosphere, good drinks, but damn, that grilled cheese was not good. Our order came out about 3 minutes after we placed it...how did that happen? The GC had a tiny thin slice of cheddar and a thin slice of smoked gouda not melted at all. The bread was oily and stale. I came to this location because I had been at their sister restaurant in San Antonio down on Grayson that I just love the menu. They had the same delicious fish tacos I had there but with a whole lot of attitude! My server was pleasant but the manager was a complete nasty female dog type person. For anybody that works in the restaurant business remember that person you're nasty to today may be going through his/her own stuff as well so please stop passing your bad attitudes onto customers. I am sure I am not The only person that has thought this as my server hinted that she was also an issue to other people guests and servers included. We went here on our way to San Marcos and were underwhelmed. The wait staff was ok but not overly attentive. The food however was so bad that we will not return. We had the nachos with jalapenos as an appetizer and the cheese slices (why they wouldn't use grated cheese is another mystery) were for the most part not melted and cold. DH had the chicken caesar salad which tasted metallic (!) and DS and myself had hot dogs that were extremely salty as well as partially cold. read more

Mozie's is really great food - It's a smaller place, but everything is really well tended to: Waitstaff, food, drinks, etc. I had the rueben and it was so super tasty - sourdough bread, thinly sliced meat, really great kraut, and a side dip for your sauce. I was only able to make it halfway through the sandwich before I was stuffed. Quality portions. Only caveat is that you cannot order a half sandwich (on a few of the others you can). My sister had the large chopped salad -- which was HUGE. Unless you're just really really really hungry, you can probably just eat the smaller portion. I mean, it came with THREE pieces of bread! Yowza. On the flip side, if you're a fan of taking home leftovers, this is totally the meal for you! Food is also well priced - you get a great value for what you order. And it tastes freshly made. I met a friend for dinner here, who I hadn't gotten to talk to in a while. It was a bit loud, but that didn't really bother us as I tend to talk loudly when excited. We both started with beers, and I ordered a burger. The burger was ok, a step above fast food, but still not up to par with what I would have expected. The beef was pretty bland, and the condiments and dressing on the burger didn't add anything to it. A little over halfway throught the burger I got a lovely mouthful of gristle, the kind you would normally find in a frozen burger patty. At that point I lost my appetite almost totally but for the saving grace of the meal the GARLIC FRIES..... They were heavenly and garlicy. I 'd go back just to eat them alone. Service was ok, but I do feel like when were rushed out of there when out plates were cleared, our check was brought with the last beers we had ordered. Mozie's saved me the other day after an afternoon spent in the Texas sun stranded on the side of the road with one tire completely blown to shreds. I was tired, hungry, frustrated, hot, and feeling all around yucky. I opened the door and stepped inside with my mom in tow and we were greeted quickly by friendly smiles. Our drink order was taken and filled in what seemed like less than a minute. If you've ever stood outside on blacktop during a south Texas summer for several hours with no shade in sight, you can imagine how thankful I was to get something to drink! And speaking of drinks, though I was in dire need of water when I was in last, they have a pretty impressive beer selection at Mozie's. And the table next to us was raving about how great the cocktails were. So, I'm going to have to get back asap to give those a whirl. Our food was also delicious. The fish tacos were very different from most I'd had before (they came with a red sauce and the tortillas were fried) but they were scrumptious. And my mom's chicken salad was good enough to remind me almost of the famous chicken salad my grandmother used to make, and that's probably the single highest compliment I could pay a food item! read more

This place was in a rad old building that I think used to be a jail. I'm not sure how to rate this place as it came back to bite my husband, so i'll rate it from my experience. We got seated straight away, and our server was super friendly and nice, that good ole southern hospitality. Must preface this by saying, we were quite tipsy when we came in as had been drinking beers at gruene hall all afternoon. We ordered the garlic fries to start and we demolished them in about 2 seconds flat, they were delicious! I had the grilled cheese sandwhich which was really nice as it came with tomatoes, spinach and a side of fruit which was what i needed! We all ordered cocktails as well, which were delicuious - i had the mojito. Now, for my husbands experience. He ordered the cheese sliders, which were basically 3 little burggers with cheese, meat and mayo. They were super greasy, and you could see the grease on top. He managed to eat all 3 of them despite the amount of grease and oil dripping off the cheese and bun. He enjoyed them at the time, but unfortunately they came back up a few hours later. Must say they do come with a warning on the menu that they are greasy! Perhaps he should have read a bit more carefully! read more

This place has great food and the location is fantastic and right in the action, across from Gruene Hall. If you want to stop some place to watch the game, this is your spot. The beer is cold and the TVs are plentiful. The service was pretty good and everyone was very friendly. This place is a converted side of the antique store next door and it has the beautiful old floors and brick walls. I think the only thing I would change would be to put something on the walls, besides the TVs. It just seems kind of naked. read more

Stopped in for lunch while we were in the area. The bar is well stocked, although they are missing a few of my favorite mixers. The entire experience was great. The atmosphere is pubby without being anywhere near divey. Glass condiment bottles, fresh fruit at the bar, etc... The food came out quickly and was delicious. Service was good. I liked the ambiance but can see it not being comfortable on a crowded night. Narrow place and a had to squeeze around people when there were very few people in it. We were there for an early dinner on a Monday night. I had fish tacos. They were just ok. Another reviewer mentioned the tortillas were fried. Maybe the problem was mine were not. The sift corn tortilla's that came with mine started to dissolve into a mushy mess. My husband ordered the Cobb salad. It was tasty he said , but had way too much meat in it. My daughter had the grill cheese and a side salad and said those were good. They only serve bottled beer, none on tap, and the selection is very limited. I wouldn't go back. read more
