I immediately ordered three chicken and three beef. I forgot about the arepas. The guy said it would be ten minutes. So we browsed their store. As soon as you walk in to the business, the small place looked like it is set up to ship packages. It has a small grocery store in the back, and has a kitchen on the side. The whole store was small, but clean. There was no seating in this place as it is not a sit down restaurant. Food orders are placed to go. Almost ten minutes exactly our empanadas came out. We took them to our car and ate there. We wanted to eat them fresh and hot and boy were they steaming hot. I loved the crispness of the shells. The filling was very flavorful and moist. I dipped them in the salsa and they had had a nice kick. They were delicious!We were able to polish off four. The owner was very friendly and informative and let us know these empanadas are made in the Columbian style. She also mentioned she lived in Mexico for many years and learned to make empanadas the Mexican way and combined some of those flavors also. The empanadas I had were all very tasty and I liked the salsa verde that came with the empanadas. I had the traditional (had a kick to it) and arroz con pollo. I gave Sherpa the calentado and chorizo ones, but no report back if they were good lol. My only gripe here is that the empanadas were a little more greasy than I usually like. On their website and in photos, they say their empanadas are air fried, but I think I recall seeing oil fryers outdoors yesterday. I try to keep fried foods to a limit as I don't always feel great after eating a greasy meal. And I have to maintain a svelte physique, just kidding there. Diabetes and heart disease run in my family, so I am very mindful of what I put into my temple. I also ate these after climbing as there is no way I could have had these empanadas in my stomach prior. Also interesting is that the vegetarian and vegan ones were kind of food color green. They have a homemade mayo with rocoto, a spicy sauce with rocoto and peppers and then a cilantro, green chill sauce. The fried Peruvian corn is heavenly! Saboroso!
