We were excited to see a replacement for the zip Korean barbecue that had closed. We frequent the district and are always looking for new food choices. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered and found the interior was redone. Glad Mr. BBQ Jr spent the time to make it his own. The all-you-can-eat pricing is affordable and is in line to the restaurants in the area. Our two kids were charged the children pricing appropriately. The best part of the place is that all the servers share duties. The food came out quickly after it was ordered on the pad. The pad makes it convenient to order things without having to wave down a server. We enjoyed the Mr. BBQ signature short rib the most. Second for us was the brisket. I suggest trying all of the side dishes at least once. You'll see what you like. My wife walked out on me as I was eating as she was too full. I continued to enjoy the food. I was excited to try this Korean BBQ restaurant after seeing significant hype on TikTok. I added myself to the waitlist and was quoted an approximate 40-minute wait. However, once we arrived and checked in, the experience became frustrating. Although Yelp notified us that our table was ready and a staff member initially told us the same, we waited an additional 40 minutes while repeatedly being told, "we are setting up your table." During this time, two other parties were seated before us. After we approached the staff again, a manager finally acknowledged the situation and seated us. She explained they were short-staffed, which we would have understood had expectations been communicated more clearly. The restaurant itself was very busy but visually appealing, with a cute atmosphere and artwork that stood out. Our waiter was excellent and provided attentive service. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the restaurant was lacking, and the menu felt limited in terms of food, meat selection, and beverages. Given the pricing, the offerings felt overpriced. Additionally, the flavors leaned heavily toward an Americanized version of Korean BBQ, which was not to my preference. Toward the end of our visit, we witnessed a staff member slip and injure himself due to the cleanliness issues. The response from the team was concerning, as the incident appeared to be largely ignored and the employee was encouraged to continue working. Overall, while there were some positive aspects, the wait time miscommunication, cleanliness concerns, limited menu, and handling of staff safety issues ultimately left a negative impression. So we went there to check it out and was truly disappointed. Meat selection is not the greatest and tough. We tried the hot plate stuff as well. Ordered fried chicken that comes with a dip which their dip was a line of mayo. I ordered 2 kimchi fried rice with spam and they forgot about it. when I reminded them they only brought 1 with 4 pcs of spam as a garnish Bwhaha. Fountain drinks are flat. Mr. BBQ Jr is an AYCE KBBQ restaurant that recently opened at The District in Tustin. It's a "junior" to the bigger and original location in Fullerton which is meant to be a more approachable and affordable option. There is ample free parking at the mall. The lunch option is $23.99 and the dinner/weekend option is $33.99. We came right when they opened and were seated immediately but there's a Yelp waitlist you can utilize during busier times. After you get seated you order your food and drinks from an iPad. There are pages of meat, sides, and soups/noodles to order from. Out of the meats we ordered my favorites were the bulgogi, pork galbi, and mr bbq. Out of the sides my favorites were the bulgogi fries, Korean fried chicken, and corn cheese. Unfortunately they didn't have some KBBQ classics like beef galbi and steamed egg but I guess that's what makes this location "junior". In a way I do see that it makes the ordering process easier and simpler without the overwhelming amount of options but I still wish there were certain dishes that I usually go for at KBBQ restaurants. AHHHH!! Stumbled in here shockingly on their grand opening day! It used to be Zip BQQ and we were so sad they had closed. But Tustin is luckyyyyy, they just gained a 10/10 eat!! I came here with the hope that it would be close if not the same in terms of quality of the popular Mr. BBQ in Fullerton, but, I was thoroughly disappointed. Definitely not worth the $33.99/person that we paid. We arrived around 5PM on a weekday. The restaurant was almost empty with only 2 other parties that were dining in. We got seated immediately and were instructed on how to order (order food on the tablet, drinks with the server). All the names of the meat on the menu are in Korean (words) and require you to click on the item to see the descriptions in English. There are photos as well. We ordered the following: K-Street Eats: - Kimchi Fried Rice: Their take on classic fried rice with kimchi and spam. I had high hopes but was disappointed in this. It lacked flavor and the rice tasted pretty soggy. - Bulgogi Fries: These bulgogi topped French fries were pretty good and were the only item I liked during my meal. Thin cut fries with tasty pieces of meat and a good sauce on top. Soups & Noodz: - Kimchi Jeegae: Homemade kimchi stew that somewhat tasted homemade... like a jar of boiled kimchi. - Spicy Ramyun: This was basically a bowl of cooked Buldak noodles, the spicy ones, I believe the black bag (1x spicy)? AYCE Meats: - Chadol - Mr. BBQ - Woobaesol - Bulgogi The meat quality wasn't the greatest, and definitely didn't carry the greatest of flavors. Both the sesame oil (which was severely watered down) and salt nor the dipping sauce helped at all. Nothing special to say about the side dishes. The spicy cucumbers looked good but were definitely watered down. The salad was OK. Parking is plentiful and the best place to park is the side where PetSmart is. There's less traffic and intersections to worry about ant it's as short of a walk compared to parking in the busy Whole Foods lot. Service was OK, we were checked on a few times during our meal. My husband and I stopped by on a Friday for lunch during their soft opening. We learned that dinner pricing is all day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The menu is small, but it has all the staples that I usually eat (brisket, beef belly, marinated pork belly). Our meal came with all of my favorite banchans that tasted the same as the Fullerton location. There are also a variety of appetizers (tacos, baos), but I would rather save my stomach for more meat! Our servers were prompt in changing out our grills and refilling our sides. You even get a coin for their claw machine at the end of your meal. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and you can't beat the lunch price of $23.99 for AYCE. Excited to learn that Mr BBQ opened a jr location, and came here for a dinner with some friends. They're currently in their soft opening phase, so the staff was still in training, and the menu felt limited. Popular meats like the brisket and beef belly were on the menu, so we opted for that and some other marinated meats. Soft opening has a lunch and dinner menu ranging from $24-34. I liked that they had a lot of apps and noodle options! Although the staff was in training, they offered great friendly and quick service. We had some mishaps with getting the wrong items a few times, but it was a super easy fix. I loved that they also had buldak noodles here. They took over what used to be Zip BBQ, so the restaurant is fairly small. Wait times look like it could be long, but they do have the online Yelp waitlist that allows you to join before arriving. I also loved how easy it was to order from the iPad. The lunch special is such a great deal at $24 for all-you-can-eat lunch, and you get so much food. I'm glad we checked out this newly opened AYCE KBBQ They had Korean street foods on their menu (e.g., tteokbokki, mandu, fried chicken, bulgogi fries) and some soup/noodle dishes. But, we only got to try soondubu (tofu soup). The service crew were also very attentive. They changed our grills, even before we request for it. They checked on us regularly to see if we need any refill in any of the small dishes (banchan). At the end of the meal, they gave us 2 tokens so we can try our luck at the claw machine :) read more

The side dishes were good nothing to write home about and the sides that come included in the AYCE like the noodles and soups were okay. The kimchi jjigae was so pasty it was not good. Now the steamed egg and the corn cheese was good, but the meat really stole the show. We ordered the beef belly, brisket, and honey garlic samgyeopsal. The waitlist experience was horrible. We were first on the waitlist for over 20 minutes, when we asked the host why it was taking so long when there were clearly open tables, he said that he was clearing the tables for a large party. There were only parties of 2-4 before us on the waitlist prior to us being first, and there were parties of 6 further down the line, at least five groups later. I understand having to coordinate tables for larger groups, but smaller parties shouldn't have to wait extra for that. They can allocate tables or sections specifically for larger groups so it doesn't impact everyone else. read more

If I could leave a negative star rating, I would. I should have known from our first interaction with the host that this was going to be a horrible dining experience. We were first in line, so we walked up and let the host know we were ready. He told us our table would be ready shortly. Because it is a smaller location, we decided to wait right outside the doors to give people leaving some space. We then watched as three new parties walked in and were seated ahead of us, even though we had already waited in the virtual line for over an hour. Usually, this is a sign to go elsewhere, but we love the Fullerton location so much that we decided to stay, hoping the rest of our experience would be flawless. Boy, were we wrong. Our server was visibly upset for some reason. She only checked up on us toward the end of our meal when it was less busy, but in my opinion, that is no excuse for an attitude. I have dined at the original Mr. BBQ in Fullerton during peak rush hours and have never experienced a single ounce of bad service. The meat selection here was okay at best. They try to make up for it with unique dishes only served at this Jr. location, but the rice was old and dry. At one point, I even had to remind them that we ordered a specialty dish at the beginning of our dinner, and I ultimately had to wave down a manager just to get it delivered to our table. My husband, daughter, and I love KBBQ. We have dined at many great restaurants (with Mr. BBQ being our all-time favorite) and many bad ones, but this definitely goes down as the worst KBBQ experience we have ever had. In short, if you love Mr. BBQ like we do and are expecting the exact same service, meat selection, and experience, please just go to the Mr. BBQ in Fullerton. The meat quality, sides, bulgogi fries and bao buns were really good and had a lot more flavor than I expected. One thing I really appreciated was how clean everything was for a kbbq. The seats, tables, and overall restaurant felt really well maintained. The service was also really good. Grill changes were super quick and the staff were attentive throughout the meal without hovering too much.
