Pretty busy on this day, but not sure if it's also because of the holiday. Came specifically for birria and they have a whole section on their menu. We tried the birria taco $2.50, taco dorado (birria) $2.50, quesa taco (birria) $3.50, and a carne asada taco $2.50. Everything costs about $20 Everything was super tasty. Not greasy. Delicious tender meat. All the ingredients in the tacos worked well together, was nice and hot, and was flavorful. Tastebuds were happy and 3 tacos were perfect amount. It's one of the store fronts (currently with a white canopy for seating outside due to covid). There are 6 tables available for seating with heaters under the canopy and about 3-4 tables near the entrance. No seating inside currently, unsure if there will be. This plaza is right across from the GTM plaza. FOOD: Trio Combo with a side of bone marrow: taco, muleta, quesa taco, consume. My favorite in the trio was the Mulita (shredded beef, cheese, onion, cilantro, corn tortilla). I didn't enjoy the regular taco because of the beans. Came back another time and tried the taco durado and quesa taco. Those 2 were also good. Consome I personally like it con carne, my husband likes it without. I enjoy eating the meat at the end after I drink all the soup! BANG! Part 1 of 3 from "The Rona Chronicles: UYE #2" Don't kill me because I'm not all about that #TacoTuesday hype! I'm with Glenn A. and will happily choose sushi over tacos on any given day (sorry Shonah, lol)! I was personally invited to attend this UYE after having gone to the first last week. Lol I popped my birria taco cherry and it was all that AND a tub of ramen!! Mr. Birria is located in Santee on Carlton Hills Blvd., across the street from the Kohl's shopping center. It's in a little strip mall with lots of available parking outside. There is a tent set up right in front of the restaurant to dine out, but when we arrived around 7:30pm, there were no chairs, just tables. They just got done putting the heat lamps inside so that was a downer. Apparently this birria taco craze has been a thing for a while now, and I had to check it out. Ordered the birria ramen & 2 quesa tacos combo, with the consome, and 3 extra tacos to dip, a Sprite and water. I was bummed because they weren't serving micheladas which hellooooo... pairs so well with tacos of any kind! The wait for the food wasn't long. Took about 10 minutes before it was ready. Once we had the food, we sat right outside on the little stone paved wall. From there it was time to handle business. Take pics and videos, then proceed to eat! Looking at the piping hot ramen and consome for the tacos, I was skeptical because it looked spicy. I like some spice but not that much. Luckily when I took that first dip and bite of the taco, it was absolute heaven! That beef was super tender and it melted so nicely with the broth! The ramen also freaked me out because it looked so red...but let me tell you, that first bite was even better than the taco!! I may have moaned slightly under my breath like I did a few days ago when I got that massage. Everything in that ramen made your mouth water! I loved every bite!! The tacos and ramen were seasoned very well; both dishes were pleasing to the palate. I might not be a fan of TT, but I will say that I would happily come here again if the craving hits. I recommend you try it out if you haven't already jumped on the birria bandwagon, but stick to the 2 things we ordered as some of the reviews say the other menu items aren't that great. Was craving birria and I saw this on Instagram so I decided to check it out. From a first glance, it's not as busy and in a quiet area. Right now for COVID they're not doing indoor eating, but there's a tent and tables outside in the parking lot. I ordered 1 basic birria taco to try with consomé. It tasted delicious! Really made it worth the drive into Santee! Next thing I know I went back and ordered more. If you're into birria I recommend getting the Trio Combo because you get 3 items, plus the consomé which helps you save some money. For drinks, they do have Mexican soda so that's always a great addition for tacos. As an extra bonus, they're family ran and operated! Plus, everyone we spoke too was nice and welcoming. I went to their soft opening on a Sunday morning and the line was out the door already! Word must've gotten out because when it was time to order, I wasn't able to get the full order of beef stew. I decided to just get the trio combo, 3 taco dorados, added a side of bone marrow, and some churros. My order was ready pretty quickly and I couldn't wait to dig in when I got home. The food smelled so good! I had a little bit of everything and shared half my order with my hubby. They certainly don't skimp on the meat, but unfortunately forgot my consomme in my trio combo. My honest opinion is the Birria Burrito and taco were just ok. I thought the consume was pretty good but quite small for what they charge. I also paid extra for consume with meat and I struggled to find meat in my consume. To me the meat in the burrito and taco didn't have the birria flavor like the consume did which I find odd. Also, just a suggestion Mr Birria, you should include a side a cilantro, onions and radish with everything. The sprinkle of each one you put on the food is just not enough. Luckily I had some at home to add more flavor. Especially to the bone marrow.. which is definitely more bone than marrow. I didn't expect a lot from the bone marrow but they barely put anything on it! The worst part of my experience is that I had to wait about 35 minutes for 1 burrito, 1taco, consume And bone marrow. For that reason I won't return. One thing I will say is the young lady who was taking orders was kicking ass!! I hope she makes more than minimum wage! During my long wait I saw her take orders, bag orders, make drinks, take the drinks to the customers outside, and on top of that.. take out the trash!! Meanwhile the guy that was also at the register was extremely slow and looked like he just didn't want to be there! Hopefully Mr. Birria works out their kinks, hires more staff and maybe take some suggestions on how to improve. read more

food was sooo good - recommend to anyone who has never tried birria or if you die for a good birria taco! I never knew birria ramen existed but it was so yummy! The noodles were a bit squishy but it's probably from the commute and then sitting to cool off for a bit. Still, the flavor was all there! The tacos were super yummy and they gladly accommodated my request for no cilantro on any of them. I had ordered a hard shell but I think they forgot as it was a soft corn tortilla but it was still yummy. I thought 3 tacos wouldn't be that filling but was I wrong! I could barely finish my ramen let alone eat half of it. I recommend stopping here if you're a big birria fan or a first timer. So happy this place open in East County. I had the Trio Combo which included the beef taco, a mulita, a Quesa Taco, and consomé of beef broth, not to mention a quesadilla! The combo was $11. The Mulita was favorite, not to take away from the rest, but that little jewel stuffed with birria, cheese, and onions and Cilantro was bliss. I poured a little bit of consomé of beef on it and I was ready to roll! Both the quesa taco and regular beef tacos were great. I loved the pinto beans in the beef taco. They could of used a little seasoning, but other than that, they were great. The beef in all three was tender and exceptionally juicy, not to mention well seasoned. I also had a quesadilla. The quesadilla was most importantly, cheesey! I mean it has to be, right? Anyways, not only was it loaded with cheese, but also with beef birria and a touch of greens. It's a must! So, I have mixed reactions to my experience here. I purposefully didn't take any pictures because I didn't think it would do justice to the review. I'll start with the quality of the food which was savory and authentic, with the exception of the ramen. I ordered the Birria Ramen combo including two Queso Birria tacos and a drink. The Ramen was a pint sized container of Birria with brick of dry ramen added, still dry, hard, and not real impressive from a noodle standpoint but the ramen itself was good. The tacos were tasty, melted cheese, Birria, and fresh corn tortillas. The food lacked in presentation and the ambiance of the restaurant lacked style and panache. As an example, the onion/cilantro side was presented in a wad of foil, along with a few limes. Left me underwhelmed and thinking this is a low budget restaurant. I recognize that some of the best restaurants are in the category of "dive" and adds to the charm and uniqueness of the food/venue experience but in the case of Mr Birria, it was like they weren't even trying. A little bit of an effort would go a long way in decor, pride of ownership, character and cultural spin; even if it was a little Mexican music to start. I will say that they were on top of things from a service standpoint; I got my order within 5 minutes of ordering.....and others who walked in shared the same level of expediency. My last comment is aimed at the restroom, it needs help. Start with cleaning and disinfecting and get rid of the urine smell and treat the drains. This is the best Birria I have every had, including in Mexico. The meat was absolutely well cooked, high quality Beef necks, not chewy or rubbery, the broth was like bone broth. The spice level moderate, and very very tasty I am told the chef has been making Birria for 40 years, and it shows. The tortillas were fresh made that day from a bakery, and had the real authentic corn flavor.... also had the Ramen which was as good as the regular birria, just with ramen! Thanks very much! My favorite taco was the queso taco. The birria itself was just ok nothing to rave about. Same thing with the consome however when you add the chili oil to it, it adds a much needed element of heat.
