Even though the crew made good on ALL of the problems *they created* during the process, it was owner Ben's behavior that leaves me at a loss for words. During the consult Ben was cordial and informative. It was an easy choice as we had seen his work around the neighborhood. But wow, when he returned to start the job, he was a completely different man. Rude and cold. It was clear that all he cared about was lining his pockets and we were just another job for him. A roof tear off and replacement is no joke! He was difficult with all of the problems his crew created. Wrong gutters, broken garage light, mess everywhere and a leak during a rain storm that the crew hadn't tarped for even though I warned them! After completion we had another major leak due to incorrect flashing. Ben was incredibly difficult and sour with us when we reached out to him. I will never know why the stars didn't line up for us. We bought a new roof and in return we got vitriol directed at us for problems we didn't create. Nice roof, though. No stars should be given.

During the process, Elements discovered--and showed us--that nearly all our roof decking (the plywood sheet layer) was warped and needed to be replaced. So, we ended up paying nearly twice as much as originally quoted. (Initial inspections never find this level of "uh oh." It would have happened with any other roofer.) Things we liked/appreciated: 1) Quick and thorough responses to our questions - especially detailed questions that helped me compare one bid with another; 2) Ease of reaching and communicating with Jessica, the Operations Manager, who worked with us to schedule our job; 3) Quick and courteous responses from Ben, as well as excellent communication between Ben and the work crew; 4) Ben's final walk-through with us was on time and thorough. To consider: Elements involved multiple team members, which sometimes was great and other times resulted in crossed wires. They had to reschedule our initial inspection, and sadly we didn't speak the same language as the inspector who arrived on the revised date. (The written report was clear and thorough, though.) All in all, replacing a roof is a stressful act of trust for the homeowner. Elements did a solid job for us.

From start to finish, Brenda, Brandon and Casey were wonderful to work with. They were kind, considerate, communicative, efficient and effective. I first engaged them in September 2025, and they came right out to give a bid. In contrast to other bids I received, Best Ways doesn't have a 'one-size-fits all" approach. The lead mason, Brandon, helped me understand my options and took the time to adjust the work and the bid to suit my preferences. The end price was quite reasonable, especially given the quality of their work. They didn't schedule my job for five months simply because they run just a few crews at a time. Quality over quantity. They could have shoehorned in my small job in between larger ones, and potentially done a low-quality job. Instead, they scheduled my job far out, but then showed up, on time. When they did get to my job, they did it efficiently and quickly. The job site was left neat at the end of each day. There were thoughtful touches, too, like neatly stacking old bricks. I cannot recommend Best Way Masonry & Repairs highly enough! This is a really solid company.

I've used BWM now for three jobs at two houses, and will continue to use them for any masonry I need.

If you're considering Alliance, don't…read more Roughly a year or so ago I hired them due to a leak coming from my chimney. After their inspection it was determine the flashing was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. This was done. About a month or two later the leak returned and some additional work on the flashing performed. Cut to earlier this year and the leak once again returned. Having lost faith in Alliance I went with another PDX-based fireplace and chimney company. On inspection they immediately asked who had done the work being going over how it was some of the worst, most incompetent/novice work they'd seen, went over the issues, and provided a quote for new flashing. Once work started and the Alliance flashing was removed it was then brought to my attention that not only was the flashing problematic but that the brickwork underneath it was eroded, quite noticeably so. While not Alliance's fault, this was called out as a contributing factor to the leak and should have called out when the original flashing was removed. Should have. They never brought it to my attention. Separate from work performed, Justin was pretty sloppy with communication and paperwork, as it would sometimes require 2 or 3 voicemails before I would hear back from him, as I'd notice issues with the quotes, and as I received calls from him from a few different phone numbers. There was also a tarp left wrapped around the chimney for a few weeks that he had no clue about. In summary: don't walk, run away. Between sloppy admin skills, bad communication, poor quality of work, and the willingness to do the bare minimum while covering up larger issues, I can't in good faith suggest Justin or his "team" to anyone.

For example, they didn't check whether the gas fireplace was working and mentioned that the fireplace was clean enough, which resulted in the entire visit--greeting, inspecting, cleaning, and leaving--taking less than 20 minutes. Despite this, I was charged the full flat fee. While I understand it was their busy season, I expected a more detailed inspection for the price. Overall, the experience was okay, but I wouldn't recommend them for anyone seeking an in-depth evaluation of their fireplace or chimney.
