I've been coming here for over 40 years and it's simply always excellent quality meats your expectations. Never disappointed with the meal. It's a great place to do family style and share different plates. It's also a great place for family celebrations or simply just enjoying a great meal. I usually go there at least once. Or twice a month if not more. Food is extremely fresh and innovative and you will definitely find a fan favorite that you will enjoy. The service is on point and the staff is extremely friendly. There are two ways I could rate Mr Chow -- food and experience. I will start with the latter. If you've never been, and money is no object, go! It's a Beverly Hills staple and plays the part of glamour and wealth well. The waiters are in tuxedos, the tables are covered in white linen, and the serving platters are silver plated. The food and drinks are also very good. In some respects, it is very traditional Chinese food but taken to a higher level. I would be remiss, however, if I did not warn of the tiny portions. Mr. Chow is a very famous and polarizing restaurant that also has a lot of pop culture influence in LA. They have many other locations: Vegas, Miami, London, New York, and a few others. The inside is like a mid 90s time capsule and pretty much everything else is from the same time period, as well. When we sat down, they brought us a food menu and also a merch menu. You can really tell what sort of place you are in when you are handed a merch menu before you even order your food. They are well known for their high prices and great service and even though it is a bit retro I really did enjoy the 90s aesthetic on the inside. They offer valet parking for $15 but honestly street parking or garage parking is easy to find in Beverly Hills. Our server was very polite and attentive, as well as the rest of the staff we encountered. All food items are brought out on a silver plate and served directly in front of you. It's almost a time capsule of how fancier restaurants in bigger cities in the 90s would serve their clients. One of the biggest issues I had with our dinner was the pricing. It is ridiculously expensive for fairly small sized portions. I honestly felt a little hungry after I finished dinner so this is not this sort of place I would go to after a long hike or game. I had to start off with a Chicken Satay because it is one of their most famous dishes, and honestly, I can see why. It is expensive for $16 per chicken satay but the flavors were tremendous. Some of the best I've ever had. We also ordered the Ma Mignon and Sweet and Sour Pork. The mignon was fairly good, although not nearly as good as a filet mignon @ Mastro's or one of the other high quality steakhouses in the area, but the pork was exceptionally good and something I would definitely order next time. It was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside and just had great flavors. The desserts were two cheesecakes and a fruit tart so I ended up passing on those. Overall, a really nice experience, some pretty good food, but really unfair pricing. I get that Beverly Hills rent is expensive, but I don't believe that should be taken out on the diners. read more

Well bless their hearts, Mr. Chow is still out here masquerading as "fine dining," hoping nobody notices the emperor's clothes fell off sometime around 1985. This so-called restaurant is less a culinary destination and more a taxidermied relic of the good old days--propped up on reputation alone, like a faded Hollywood starlet clinging to her press clippings. We went in for Peking duck, the dish they're supposedly famous for. Except--plot twist--the duck comes with a minimum of three people at $128 a head. Their website doesn't bother mentioning this, of course. When we politely declined to fork over nearly $400 for dinner for two, we were treated like intruders at a private club. Now, about the drinks: two sad little mocktails and a bottle of water for fifty bucks. A "virgin Bellini" and a "virgin Mojito," though nothing about them suggested life had ever passed through. Flat, tasteless, and served in glasses so cheap I half-expected them to crack in my hand. Not a garnish in sight, no effort whatsoever. For $25 a pop, you'd think they could at least wedge a lime on the rim. The décor? Imagine a plastic Hollywood veneer that hasn't been updated since Reagan was in office. Laminated menus. Soulless lighting. The vibe of a budget nightclub trying to cosplay as high society. The service? Nonchalant at best, hostile at worst. And speaking of hostile: on our way out, the maître d' decided to make things personal. When I explained that charging for three meals when there were clearly only two of us was stupid, he snapped back that I was stupid. Yes, you read that right. An employee at this "fine dining" establishment insulted a customer to their face. (Side note: halitosis isn't exactly the secret sauce of hospitality either, friend.) Tables sat empty, the energy was hollow, and I left with the distinct impression that Mr. Chow is running on fumes, living off nostalgia, and praying the tourists don't look too closely. Final Verdict: 0 out of 10. If you want overpriced mediocrity wrapped in attitude, by all means, pull up to the $20 valet. Otherwise, Beverly Hills has far better ways to waste your money. read more

The only reason people write crappy reviews for Mr Chow is bc they don't understand why it's so expensive. Quality, the quality of the food is always top notch. Been eating at Mr Chow since I'm a kid 50 years. Here and in Nyc. Now we bring our son who has been going since he was about 6 years old. It is his favorite Chinese food resturant. In fact he will not eat any other Chinese food. He's 19 now and he is super into his health. Most the dishes Mr Chow are not made with tons of oil etc. It's extremely clean food. You will never feel sick after eating there. We just got home from a Xmas eve dinner. It was super fun. The place was so jumping so packed. If it sucked why were people pouring out the front door, so Mr. chow deserves a 5.0 yelp review not 3.0 just the most ridiculous ever. None of the dishes are bad so just order what you dig. You will not be disappointeded. Just be prepared to pay a lot for dinner and expect to like your meal. Remember it was worth it. Life is worth enjoying we have one! read more

Where do I begin? This so called fusion Chinese food or whatever they serve is a disgrace to every restaurant in the world 1. Shark fin soup- this is basically Chinese buffet quality sea food soup with not so fresh crab meat. The fake shark fin which is mung bean noodle was hard to eat. 2. The lobster noodle- lobster was dry. Noodle was a mess of ball. Only flavor was garlic. 3. Bakchoy- this is just beyond sad. Overly cooked and small and bad quality bak choy 4. Sea bass- never tasted such rubber like sea bass. No flavor 5. Shrimp- i don't think thumb nail size is worth $60 6. Fried rice- even street vendor can do a better job. It pains me to complain about this restaurant I've been going to since I was a kid; however the food is just not as good as it used to be. I went lastnight with a group and we tried half the menu, the crab soup was really fishy and not good, the chow noodles had no flavor, the crab fried rice no flavor , the only decent thing was the chicken skewers. I was so disappointed by my visit to Mr Chow!!! The ambiance is what I was expecting from a overcrowded venue, being very noisy which can be appealing sometimes. The service was very unpleasant as very pushy with no attention to details except for the dessert course who was handle by a more mature server with an old school style, definitely making a difference. The cocktails were well done which was a good start, unfortunately... The food was the worst part of it. Mr Chow noodles were good nothing more, same for the dumplings. The gambler duck was dry and not inappropriately seasoned, the crispy pork was probably the most terrible of all, it was practically no meat inside, just flavorless and careless preparation. Basically each dish was saying "we don't care" all over it! As a dessert, we had orange marinated in a liquor that was great to clean our palate after such bad food. Wouldn't visit on Valentine's Day but maybe a regular day is okay. I was so upset with my experience I forgot to leave a review and it was probably best that I did not at the time. Most restaurants on Valentine's Day only offer 1 menu to reserve but there are a few who give options. When I stumbled upon Mr. Chow, it gave me an option for regular menu on Valentine's Day menu so I selected that option for 2 couples. When we arrived everything was good so far. Valet guys were nice as well as the front desk. We waited to be seated for no longer than 10 minutes but were given the Valentine's Day menu which was $200 per person & came with a complimentary glass of champagne that I couldn't drink at the time. We were pretty displeased with the starting price but decided to stay and see if it would be worth it. Let's just say we were not impressed with ANY of the courses that were brought out not even the dessert. I think we would've enjoyed it better had we actually been able to order whatever we pleased as opposed to a curated menu. I can honestly say if I had the opportunity to order from the every day menu I wouldn't have ordered anything that was on the Valentine's Day menu. read more

I always appreciate a fine dining experience, and Mr Chow delivered on all aspects of service. Known worldwide, this restaurant has become a place where many celebs frequent. We made reservations way in advance, and were allowed to choose whether or not we wanted to sit inside or out. We opted to sit indoors for a more intimate setting and the entire interior was clad in a classy black and white fashion. Once we sat down, we were immediately greeted by servers that placed our linen napkins in our lap, and the champagne cart. My table got a bottle of the best champagne and wine I've had to share. We opted for the Mr Chow semi prix fixe menu where we chose 4 first courses and 4 of courses, and it was plenty of food for six. Fried lotus root, seaweed, and walnuts (5/5): A delicious "complimentary" starter for the table. Loved the texture and flavor of the seaweed, and the sweet glaze on the walnuts. Chicken Satay (3/5): The chicken was very tender and moist, but I felt like it was lacking in flavor. Scallion Pancake (3/5): More like a scallion puff. It was good, but definitely had better. Lobster Shumai (4/5): Juicy mini shumai. I enjoyed the flavor of these, but comparing this to the shrimp and pork shumai you see at dim sum restaurants, the size was disappointingly small. Squid Ink Rice Noodles (5/5): Very unique play on chow fun noodles. I enjoyed the sauce on the noodles and liked how there were pieces of squid inside too. Four Color Cauliflower (4/5): Heartwarming and authentic Chinese flavors. The cauliflower was sautéed in a starchy garlicky broth that was simple and flavorful. Sautéed Rice (4/5): Solid tasting fried rice. Nothing special, but a good way to soak up leftover sauce (use their chili sauce, it's delicious). Green Prawns (4/5): Spinach purée gives off the vibrant green color of the sauce. The prawns were perfectly steamed and had good flavor. Ma Mignon (5/5): Loved the crust on the meat. Super flavorful and the meat was served medium rare. Velvet Chicken (3/5): I would pass on this one, just because I prefer dishes with more oomph, but if you want something lighter with clean flavors, you would enjoy this. Steamed Sea Bass (5/5): Hands down my favorite dish of the night. The sea bass was super tender and had the most incredible taste. The ginger cilantro sauce complimented the fish so well. Also, I tried sips of the lychee and espresso martinis and they were both phenomenal. You can't go wrong with any of their drinks. Now I've had a lot of Chinese food in the SGV and while I can attest to many of those restaurants tasting better and are at a more affordable price point, I think the food here elevates traditional Chinese dishes, and spreads the Asian cuisine to a higher clientele. Overall, I had an incredible time at Mr Chow and I want to give a shoutout to every single staff member working at the Beverly Hills location. So you basically make duck street tacos with this. All that said, combined to make tasty finger food. No complaints wrt to the prix fixe menu offering.
