Decided to stop by for lunch with my coworker and was greeted in the most unprofessional way. Notified the employee working the counter that we were there to pick up some online orders. As my colleague and I began to show the order confirmation numbers with the names, the employee raised his voice, was refusing to give us our orders we paid for, and began calling us sir, dudes. Mind we are both females. Worker kept discriminating against us, calling us guys, even though my coworker had corrected him. My coworker asked to speak to the manager. This individual named Eduardo laughed and said he was the manager. This employee was not in a waba grill uniform shirt. There was another non employee hanging out with them in the kitchen. Everything exceeded my expectations! First time here, celebrating with friends from Australia (drove in from Palm Springs, on our way to the airport). We got there a bit early, but were able to walk around the gardens and take in the spectacular views without being rushed. It was a clear day so you could see downtown LA, the Observatory & the Hollywood sign. The gardens were spectacular, inside and out. They have benches overlooking downtown; the entire atmosphere seemed very authentic and beautiful. We were sat near the window so still had an excellent view. Our server TJ was kind, animated and prompt, he kept our waters filled and came back several times to check on us. He even brought us a little treat at the end and took a photo with us! The table ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Spicy Tuna Nachos, Duck Confit, Calamari, Hamachi, Garlic Beef Noodles and the Wagyu sushi roll. Everything was delicious, I don't think we left one crumb. Dessert we ordered the Strawberry Shortcake which was also yummy. Highly recommended, especially anyone who doesn't get to LA often and wants an awesome view and great food. It is conveniently located at the corner of Sunset Blvd & La Brea Avenue in Hollywood with plenty of parking on their lot. I was truly impressed by the cleanliness of this location. Today's my first time adding and trying half-ocado with my plantspired steak bowl. I truly did not expect that it would add umami to my flavorful and chewy plantspired slices. The avocado was fresh and not over-riped. The drizzled waba sauce is a match made with the half-ocado and adds an unique texture along with the crispness of the blanched vegetables. I wanted to place a phone order, they told me they were very busy which I understood. I waited on the phone for 15 minutes. I wasn't on hold, I could hear the background noise, which is cool. The issue is I never heard back. I ended up arriving at the restaurant before my call was revisited only to see three employees just talking at the counter. No customers whatsoever. I told him I was the one on hold and he just 'laughed and said "oh, sorry". I smiled, nodded and left. As I stand at the register, watching them, make my beef bowl and observe the cook, putting the beef into my bowl and removing portions of meat out of my bowl into a meat pile I was shocked and had to ask what are you doing? They told me that it's company policy not to give out too much meat. they are forced to weigh each bowl and comply with company policy. This is a foolish policy that made me feel less than a valued customer. I will never go to another Waba grill. Haven't risked eating at a WaBa Grill in years, certainly not since Covid began, and now I remember why! LOL I turn into the mini mall at La Brea and Sunset Boulevard thinking I'll drive thru the Wendy's before hitting the DGA for a movie, but then I remember: I had steak last night for dinner and I need to be cutting down on my red meat consumption. Lucky or UN-lucky for me, I see the WaBa and think, "Ah, let's get some fish tacos or something healthier than a cheeseburger." So I did. The nice young guy at counter answers questions and I order the Wild Caught Salmon Bowl and specify white rice not brown. Of the 4 sauces I see on the menu board I opt for the "spicy house wabo sauce." What I get 5-10 minutes later is a small, rather dry looking piece of salmon that looks to be overcooked over white rice and the young guy squirts a rich dark brown sauce over it. At $11.99, with tax and 18% tip, it comes to $14.99 at the end, a couple bucks more than the much bigger and much better looking salmon bowl I sometimes get from Bristol Farms market that is tasty... And yep, the salmon is dry, overcooked, has none of the soft pliant texture I look for in most any salmon dish that's not smoked to be jerky; the rice is fine but pretty much sticks to itself in places; the sauce brings a little heat but the flavor is one note and not a particularly good note either. I scarf it all down in less than five minutes flat and leave. Driving out of the mini mall on the other side, I remember just WHY I haven't patronized WaBa in the longest time and wonder where the fish tacos that I remembered being OK went.... When I arrived the staff was ready with my order and asked if I needed anything else, not very typical for a fast food place. Last thing I can say is, everyone looked busy. This review is not so much about the food or the service I received but about the environment during my visit. I was waiting in line to get my food, this security officer was waiting behind me to use the restroom. I didn't know it at the time that he was waiting on me, but when he asked about the restroom I told him I wasn't waiting in line. So he proceeded to ask the cashier for permission to use the restroom. She had called my number and I walked up and naturally I was able to hear their conversation. She told the gentleman that the restroom was for customers only. He asked if she could make an exception since he was the security officer of the building/plaza. To me, this seemed like a reasonable exception - he literally keeps the place safe from danger, why wouldn't you offer him at least the decency to use your restroom right? Anyway, she ignored him and continued talking to me. I felt uncomfortable so I left her alone to deal with the situation but I lingered to see how she would resolve it. The gentleman asked again if he could please use the restroom. She said no because she didn't believe he was security because she said she saw a different security officer guarding the place. The man, getting frustrated for obvious reasons, asked to see a manager. She said she was in charge. He explained that there was more than one officer. She responded rudely to him saying fine whatever and threw the keys at him. The gentleman asked why she was giving him attitude and she ignored him again. I waited outside to speak with the gentleman and I asked him if he was alright. His partner, the other security officer on duty met up with him and it was obvious he was on duty. The cashier that was rude to him left the front desk area and was no longer visible. When I asked about her name, I wasn't given any information and neither was he. We left, not wanting to cause anymore problems but I couldn't help but feel awful for this guy. The only thing we remembered was she wore glasses and had light brown almost reddish hair, and tanned. Now I left a detail about this gentleman out because I strongly hope I'm incorrect about my assumption. The security officer that was treated rudely happened to be black. I hadn't thought about it much until the ordeal was over but the cashier was very amicable with me, (I'm LatinX) and the guests before me (both white). I really hope this wasn't a case of racial profiling and that I'm just being hyper vigilant. Regardless, I didn't feel like this was a proper way of handling things. I understand being a cashier in LA and in that area is tough because you get all kinds of rude customers. But I think she made the wrong call and the gentleman was fully dressed in uniform. There was no need to throw keys at him and no need for that disorderly conduct. He keeps you safe and he was asking nicely. Do better and if you're having a bad day don't take it out on people.
