Kiddo has suddenly become obsessed with seafood boils, so hubby took them here for dinner. Unfortunately, I couldn't join them tonight, so I asked them to bring me home a simple bowl of clam chowder. *To be clear, this review is only about the clam chowder since I didn't try anything else. Unfortunately, the clam chowder was terribly watered down and had a noticeable "fishy" smell the moment I opened the lid. And before anyone says seafood is supposed to smell pungently fishy: no, it's not. If it smells bad, it's usually because it's not fresh. For a small bowl of clearly watered-down clam chowder that didn't seem fresh - and somehow cost around $20, more than some of the best clam chowders at well-known coastal seafood establishments - I'm annoyed enough to write a Yelp review, which I rarely do unless I'm especially impressed or especially offended. I love Mr. Crab! I ordered the 1/2 lb of shrimp and you really do get a lot. I added sausage, potatoes, and an egg -- honestly, I probably could've gone without all the extras because you get a decent amount of shrimp! My only wish is that they offered rice on DoorDash. Noodles were the only option, and rice would've been perfect with the meal. Also, I need to learn to stick with one flavor -- I always mix multiple and it never hits how I expect, but that's completely on me. Even with that, I've never had a bad experience here. Everything in the seafood boil was delicious. We got the octopus mussels and shrimp with the head on the seasoning was perfect not too small salty I got the medium heat and it was perfect. We did get a dozen oysters and only ended up eating six. The flavor wasn't that good for the raw oysters it was a little watered down. It almost tasted like frozen. It was weird so we didn't eat the other six everything else was delicious. The restaurant was nice and clean. Our server was super helpful and I like that you can order half pounds. Our group of friends met up at Mr. Crab Seafood Boils; outside of 2 people in our party, it was our first visit to this restaurant. We arrived just as the restaurant was opening for lunch service; so, when we walked in, there was about three other groups in restaurant but not as large as our party. We perused the menu diligently when the server came to take our drink orders and it was some time before she returned to take our entree orders: a couple of crab and shrimp boils for half of the table, a fried lobster w/ sweet potato fries combo, an order of mac and cheese, a side order of regular french fries, an order of fried calamari, a side order of sweet potato fries, a crab salad sandwich, lobster sandwich and a bowl of chowder plus three orders of a dozen oysters to start. The oysters, bowl of chowder, and side order of fries were delivered to table first, followed by the sandwiches and fried calamari, and mac-and-cheese. The other side of the table received their crab and shrimp boil, and the fried lobster platter arrived last and with some considerable amount of wait time. The raw oysters were very plump and meaty; it didn't have a hint of fishiness but was also missing that little bit briney-ocean flavor. Adding the horseradish, squeeze of lemon and cocktail sauce greatly improved the flavor though. Our entire party seemed to enjoy each of their individual entrees; I thought my calamari platter was pretty tasty and the portion size plentiful that I almost regretted ordering the side of sweet potato- it was just too much food to finish. I begin with the fact that I lived in Texas for many years so crab boils are kind of a big deal when you neighbor Louisiana. With that being said, I should have lowered my expectations. Mr. Crab was definitely lacking flavor, lacking enough employees on the floor, and lacking the culture tied to a crab boil. I was in a group so we were able to try a lot of the menu and it was underwhelming. The fish tacos were dry. The crab meat sandwich was described as a a crab cake on a bun but was mostly coleslaw supposedly mixed with shredded crab meat. And like I said the crab boil bags lacked flavor. The service was alright; could've been better. There was only one server and it seemed like someone else who was still being trained, and then one bartender. So service was pretty slow. It would've almost made more sense to order at the bar. Lastly, BE SURE YOU READ YOUR CHECK. There's a price listed as a total and then there's a price for those paying in cash. Absolutely delicious! I love this place! The food is fantastic and has a great value. The restaurant is clean and has southern beach vibes. To drink I had the house strawberry margarita without salt. It was refreshing and well balanced. As appetizers, I had sweet potato fries and clam chowder. The fries were seasoned well and cooked crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The dipping sauce was a nice addition to the fries. The soup was ok. It had a good bit of clams but was very one note in flavor. For my main I did a 2 lb bag of crawfish with a boiled egg. My seasoning was medium Mr Diablo and garlic butter. All of my crawfish were cooked beautifully and the seasoning mix was on point. The egg was the perfect addition. Next time I think I might try noodles too. I was a bit disappointed in the service today. For almost our entire visit we were the only table in the restaurant (one other table came in near the end) yet we struggled to get our waitress to refill our drinks or give our table attention. At one point I ordered another drink and after 10 minutes we had to go ask her if I could get my drink and she responded with "oh you want it now". She spent her time laughing and chatting with the cook at the kitchen window. Despite the lack of service, the food will keep me coming back and will keep me loving this place. read more

I heard this place wasn't too bad and also heard it wasn't good. I didn't want to let the reviews make my decision so I tried it today and I have to say it's not the worst but it's also not that good. My bf kinda liked it but paying 160 for 3 meals was definitely not worth it. I forced myself to eat it because my bf paid for it. The staff was super nice. And one of the meals was a kids meal so not sure how it added up to $160 for food that wasn't good. Grab n spice in Vegas or Sacramento is cheaper and super super good. And have way bigger portions. For 4 meals it was cheaper than Mr.Crab. If you're not too picky with seafood boil then you might like it. If you are picky I would say don't waste your time or money. We both ordered the all you can eat which for the price of everything is well Worth it I had shrimp and crab with boiled eggs red potatoes and corn although next time I'll skip the potatoes they are the big ones not the small ones! Actually is a good value and you got a lot for your money. And I was just as much satisfied, and I would have been with all you can eat. A very terrible experience just happened to my spouse and me this noon. I treated my friend and his family to lunch there. The service was fine at the beginning, and I was planning to leave a 20% tip. Near the end of the meal, my partner discovered a piece from the soda machine faucet inside his Coke. We informed the server, and she came over without saying anything--no explanation or apology--and simply brought a new Coke. The bill already included an 18% gratuity. She said the menu states that parties of five or more are charged a gratuity, but we had a two-year-old child who only ate a few fries. She said this was their policy. I told her the money was not the issue, but their handling of the situation was unacceptable. Finding a part of the soda machine in a drink is extremely disgusting, and if it caused any issues, it could pose a health risk since my partner had already consumed it. The server then said this kind of thing happens often and that it has occurred more than once at their restaurant, and that their sanitation standards are fine. She also said that if my partner has health problems, we could bring a hospital report to them. Her attitude was very poor. From the beginning, she said "Jesus" to me and claimed we had communication issues due to language barriers. We asked to speak with a manager, but they said only the owner was available. When I asked for the owner's contact information, they refused to provide it. I asked them to pass our phone number to the owner instead. The hot diablo sauce is amazing especially with the shrimp! Trust the reviews on the fact that there's not a ton of crab; in contrast, if you enjoy crawfish.. there is plenty of crawfish. The service is great, however we showed up on a random Thursday night so it was pretty empty. Upon addressing it with a waiter he bought another sauce, only to up charge. They even charged us for lemons. The food was cold and most disappointing. Also, ordered 2 combos for our family. Although there was variety in the menu selection, the food was more for one adult than for two. The $10 potato/sausage/corn upgrade is insulting. It's 2 potatoes 3 corn pieces and bits of sausage meat. Highly disappointing paying $176 for family of 5 for what we were served. The Cajun flavor wasn't authentic. I don't know why it took me so long to try this place...I'm glad I finally got here! Located in a large storefront that used to house a sushi place, it's spacious, with plenty of seating. I really like the large mural of a crab on the back wall. When we dropped by on a Monday night, there weren't many people there...maybe a dozen at most with a couple of people at the nicely appointed bar. It was nice to see more people coming in as we ate. We were led to a table in the "populated" side of the restaurant by a friendly host and our waitress came over immediately to get our drink order. My dining companion ordered a house Chardonnay and I had a local craft IPA...if I remember correctly, it was an Icky from Great Basin Brewery. I've filed my receipt since our visit, so, I'm not 100% sure of the specifics, including brand and price, but those are "go-to's" when we dine out. Our waitress was very cheerful and helpful in assisting us to decide what we wanted to order. We decided to keep it simple and opted to not get the "large ticket" items. We shared what we ordered. Plump, juicy, cooked perfectly, still steaming in the bag it's served in. Clams 1 lb ($14.99) Served in the entire shell...again, absolutely delicious! Tender, small and also cooked perfectly...also still steaming in the bag it's served in. Mussels and Clams can be dry and chewy if not cooked correctly...these were done just right! It was just the right amount of food for the 2 of us. All in all, a great experience. This is a casual atmosphere in a newer building. I liked the crab mural! Server was gracious and helpful. A nice detail is the handwashing station in the dining room. This is messy work. Use the bibs, trust me. The seafood was excellent! I was impressed by the calamari - perfectly cooked, tender, delicious. A big portion for an appetizer, as well. We got a pre-planned combo boil...maybe the #4? There were several items to choose from some options. We got lobster tails, dungeness crabs, and crawfish. We added on the traditional sides - sausage, potatoes, corn. All of the seafood was great quality and cooked well. We put on the cajun sauce AND the lemon butter. My companion called the sauce "liquid gold" - it was so good and complimented everything. We also got some sides of sauce, and the garlic butter was classic. I could pass on the sriracha cheese; kind of bland. Not bad, just forgettable in comparison to everything else. This meal was well worth the price, which honestly was fairly reasonable. To be completely honest I didn't wanna expect anything because I love me a good seafood boil, who doesn't. But man that was so good! We got the seafood platter the scallops and shrimp were my favorite, so much flavor especially with the shrimp and it had the perfect crunch to the shrimp, perfectly cooked. My boyfriend's favorite was also the shrimp and the fried cod that was so soft it's like biting into air. Astonishing! Now our entrees my daughter's chicken was so flavorful! I don't know what they're putting into that batter but keep doing it! And my boil? It smelled so good and tasted even better, the shells came off so easily indicating how the seafood was perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was clean, the moment we walked in it smelled clean and they even had a hand washing station that we really appreciated after haha.
