Sadly, the quality is inconsistent. I've had amazing cupcakes from Mr Cupcakes and I've had stale hunks of sugar. More importantly if you have any food allergies just avoid it all together. After purchasing gluten free products and explains the person who they were for had celiac disease we learned the hard way that an employee had put regular products in the gluten free case. It led to a horrible experience for my friend who became violently ill. Still went back. Obviously, gluten free was no longer an option from there as once that ship sank we were too afraid to even attempt it but figured regular cupcakes cant do too much harm I ordered 3 dozen and asked for any cupcakes with nuts to be packaged separately. Twice I discussed this with the person who took the order over the phone. My niece picked them up for me and didn't know I'd asked for anything different then 3 dozen. When she showed up with them there was no separation between the ones containing nuts so because of a nut allergy the birthday boy couldn't have any of the cupcakes. Needless to say I'm done trying. I am completely shocked by this place having a 4 star review. I came here a few times when they first opened and found the cakes pretty dry and flavorless. All these years later I tried this place again because my family is searching for cupcakes to serve at my sister's baby shower. We got 8 cupcakes to taste and were horrified at the texture and flavors. We found them literally inedible and threw them away. While the cakes are moist, the flavors tasted...artificial and chemically. A boxed mix at a grocery store tastes more fresh than what we found at Mr. Cupcake. Also, if you're going to say you serve a "red velvet" cupcake, how could you not know what red velvet is? The cake was neon pink and mushy. No hint of chocolate at all. The icings to the cupcakes were just as bad. Anything cream cheese based tasted like cream cheese. Barely sweet and no real flavor. The lemon icing was so gross I spit it out. It tasted like they dumped a bunch of yellow food coloring and cheap artificial lemon flavoring into it and then decided to add fresh lemon juice to make it tart....I can not explain how gross it was. Very disappointing that a place who has 4 stores in the area uses such cheap extracts and artificial flavors to serve to their customers. Absolutely disgusting. I will never return. read more

I've been going to this location for a few years and have only had a few times that the cupcakes were dry. The bigger issue is that they crumble apart so easily, you need a fork. I'm not sure why that is. If you like french toast, they have a really good french toast cupcake with a thinner and lighter icing. I'm just not crazy about the other flavors. For me, this place or maybe the one cupcake I like, is better than other cupcake stores like House of Cupcakes. Mr. Cupcake has better prices too! being from out of town, I have never had cupcakes like these before. I have tried a lot of them too. We normally get one for the whole weekend, and we try a few every day! red velvet, peanut butter and jelly, hot chocolate, triple chocolate, french toast, cookie jar (one of my faves), chocolate caramel swirl (another fave), snowball fight, tiramisu (fave), and coffee and donut (my ultimate fave). that last one even has a mini donut on top! They don't always have all these flavors so keep that in mind. I just know they are so delicious, and perfect amount of sweetness. read more

Now I first tried mr cupcakes in riverside square mall and was really disappointed because the cupcakes were just bad but the concepts were cool. So I figured I'd give them another shot in their Clifton location and the results were much better. I tried a handful of different cupcakes and all of them surpassed the other location. They all tasted fresh and delicious! It was a huge surprise for me and had me coming back a handful of times while in the Clifton area. From what I understand they deliver the cupcakes to the riverside square mall location so that's why they sit and quality diminishes over time so just stay clear of that location. I also think the selection in the physical storefront offered much more variety but don't quote me on that. I would still choose crumbs over me cupcakes but it's all relevant and scrumptious. read more

I first had these cupcakes at Riverside Mall in Hackensack. I bought a mini french toast and remember it being so delicious. I searched my Yelp app and found Mr. Cupcakes had a shop less than 6 miles away in Clifton, so we decided to make a trip over there. THE CUPCAKES** There is a HUGE variety of cupcakes. They have their regular selection and the "interns" (temporary flavors that they're testing). I love that they have this concept since many bakeries usually just stick to what they know. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that cupcakes were $1.75 for the regular size and $1.00 for the mini. Some people might complain that this is pricey and that they can make a whole box for $3, but I'm from the Jersey City/NYC area, and cupcakes around me can run from $2.75 and up! We picked up 5 cupcakes. PB and Jelly - regular French Toast - regular Cookie Jar - mini Raspberry Cheesecake - mini Strawberries and Cream - mini I loved all of them with the exception of Cookie Jar (though my boyfriend actually liked this one). They were very moist and you can really taste the flavors in each cupcake. My favorites were definitely the French Toast and the Strawberries and Cream. The FT cupcake had maple syrup and cinnamon baked right inside the cake and topped with frosting and cinnamon. It was PERFECT with a tall glass of cold milk. The S&C cupcake had actual strawberries baked inside and I loved that they used a strawberry whipped cream frosting. It was light and airy, and didn't overpower the cake. The Cookie Jar cupcake wasn't for me. I'm not a big fan of buttercream, so I should've known better. I could taste the actual butter in the frosting rather than the sweetness. Plus, it was refrigerated so I didn't like the texture. I handed this one to my BF, and unwrapped the next one. Overall, I'm a big fan of Mr. Cupcakes. We bought a couple of gluten free cupcakes, took wrapper of cake and there was no cake inside completely hollow. I called to tell them and the girl on the phone didn't even offer refund. She said they would look into it. They should check product before they sell it!! The regular cupcake was very dry. Took one bite and the entire buttercream frosting just slid off. I love cupcakes. But these cupcakes were a great disappointment. I had the red velvet cupcake, french toast, and some others that I don't recall. The frosting is sweet, but not overly sweet, which I love. But what I really didn't like was the cake part. It was moist. But it was too moist, which is so weird. It was almost oily... I wanted to love these cupcakes so much because I wanted a good cupcake bakery that I can go to on a regular basis without having to go to NYC for my constant cupcake fix. I can generally be a cupcake snob and be pretty tough when judging cupcakes, that said, the cupcakes here are DELICIOUS ! I've tasted the strawberry, banana, cinnamon swirl, and Boston cream cupcakes. And hands down the Boston Creme is my favorite ! Their cupcakes aren't overly sweet, and they have a good cake to icing ratio. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was Bc I found that the cupcake itself was very (almost too) moist and oily. My favorite cupcake place! I've been here countless times and eaten who knows how many cupcakes (I probably don't want to know...). The employees have always been very nice and patient even when I'm standing there for a while trying to decide. It's a good price considering most places I've seen charge $4. I really like the red velvet, especially for its cream cheese frosting. I've tried ones at different shops that make it too sugary and you can barely tell it's supposed to be cream cheese frosting. My go-to choices: snowball fight (coconut), raspberry cheesecake, triple chocolate and oreo cheesecake. I bought a deal online and it is set to expire soon, so I happened to go on Valentine's Day since I had the chance to, and was rejected because " they do not take the deal on holidays" It is not so close to me and had to deal with a bunch of left over snow on the drive. Their cupcakes were good, but customer service was terrible. As soon as I walked in, I saw three people working in the front. I actually ended up making eye contact with two of the older workers which I assumed may have been the owners, but neither of them greeted me and just stared for few seconds. I felt awkward as they stared at me and just greeted them and in return I did not get any response until after standing there looking at the cupcakes for couple minutes, a young lady assisted me. Mr. Cupcakes is A-Okay. It's a small cute little shop. The cupcakes for the most part are good, but some are just okay and nothing to really brag about. Though I definitely recommend the French Toast, Apple Crisp, and Pumpkin Spice. They are amazing! Cookie Jar and Carrot is decent. The sizes of the cupcakes vary greatly, some being larger size and others being pretty small like the ones you would bake at home with the boxed betty crocker. The presentation of the cupcakes is sloppy and I think 2 of the cupcakes I got, the wrapper was slightly falling off as if someone had started peeling it off. Kind of weird, and gross if I really think about it. The box it comes in is a cute blue box with Mr. Cupcake logo on it. The icing on some cupcakes is incredibly sweet that I had to take half of it off to be enjoyable. The cupcakes I had were all moist though, which is good. Went here for the first time yesterday for birthday cupcakes. They have a very cute mascot who welcomes you into the shop! Once you are inside, the aromas are delicious and there are at least 20 different kinds of cupcakes for you to choose from. Ended up getting a dozen and at $1.75 a piece, this was a bargain for the northern NJ/NYC area. Everyone seemed to enjoy the ones they had, which included French Toast, Cookie Dough, Tres Leches (or their variation on that), Raspberry Cheesecake, Salted Caramel, Birthday Cake, and Chocolate Peanut Butter. As you can see from my selection, there is a taste for everyone's liking here! The young lady behind the counter was fast and friendly. We also grabbed some cupcake candles that were very cute and a bit different. The ONLY downside there is to this place is the parking situation. There is a lot by a liquor store next door but I'm not sure if cupcake-seekers can park there. If not, there are only two or three parks in front of the cupcake store itself. I've tried a variety of cupcake places both in NYC and NJ, including CRUMBS and Magnolia and these are still my favorite cupcakes. The have 4 or 5 different stores around NJ. I personally have been to the Clifton and the Hackensack location. I would recommend visiting the Clifton location as this is where the cupcakes are baked for all the locations. They normally have a larger variety and the cupcakes are fresher. Oh and you will save some money because the Clifton cupcakes are cheaper than at the hackensack location. I've tried so many flavors I can't even remember them all. My favorite though is definitely the raspberry cheesecake. I am a sucker for cream cheese frosting and their cream cheese frosting is out of this world. It really retains some of the cream cheese flavor but not in a bad way. You must try It, is very creamy and delicious. WIth so many cupcake places, everyone has an opinion on which is best... this place comes highly recommended, but you have to remember different strokes for different folks. That being said... this place is okay. I first tasted these a few years back and I remember really liking them.... but I just tried them again at a baby shower, and I've had better. I have to go for about a 25 minute drive north on the GSP to get here. But if you are in NNJ for any reason at all and especially if you live here you must try these cupcakes! Southern Red Velvet, S'Mores, Cookies n Cream OMGoodness! Sample as many as you can. They are 1.50 each. I usually pay 2.00 or more when I visit cupcakeries. The cupcakes are wonderful. They are so unique and can't be matched as far as my dolla dolla is concerned. The cake is so moist and flavorful and the icing is layed on perfectly. I will say that my hub always knocks a thin layer off the top of most of them but he is not very big on icing either. Just had to add that. But as far as I am concerned they are perfect. It is pretty easy to get to and so far I have not had any problems parking there. It does get very packed in there so try and go in the morning if you can. They are conveniently open later into the day and while not everything may not be available you should still have a decent selection to choose from. I'd say they have a wide variety of very interesting and unique flavors. The ones I've had all tasted pretty good and were moist - just, again, too sweet for my taste. I still come back, though, because there's just something special about their cupcakes and their flavoring is spot on. Another gripe I have is that they load the cupcakes in a normal cake box, so they kind of get tossed around if you're not too careful. I wanted to send her something, and called a number of northern NJ bakeries to try to get something delivered to her. After being quoted outrageously high delivery fees ($25!!!), I got in touch with the folks at the Clifton Mr. Cupcake yesterday afternoon, and was blown away by how great they were to order from. The young woman I spoke with when I first called asked if I could call back in a few minutes while she checked with her manager to see if they could deliver to where I needed. I called back, and she told me that they could deliver, and for a MUCH more reasonable fee than everybody else. I ordered a dozen cupcakes to be delivered to my best friend at 1pm today, paid over the phone (great prices too!), got a text message with a link to the receipt, and a few minutes ago my best friend sent me a picture message of the cupcakes she just received. They were in good shape, not messy from the car ride, and look delicious. Dare I say that I am almost jealous of her being home and sick, because I wish I could be munching on those cupcakes! Every time we venture to Clifton, Mr. Cupcakes is a must have. I consider myself a cupcake aficionado, having tried many shops and types of cakes. Johnny and his staff do an excellent job at not only creating magnificent flavor combinations, but at pulling off the texture as well. I've never had a bad cuppie from here. Yes, there are several I don't care for but that is in no way their fault. Peanut Butter and Jelly is like a flavor explosion in your mouth. Soft and moist, springy cake. Not overly sweet icing, and a cute little jelly squiggle top off this masterpiece. The Real Diehl....most flavorful German Chocolate cake and a mound of decadent coconut frosting on top make this an absolute delight! If you're on the fence about trying one.....don't be. I begged my mom for some good cupcakes for my graduation party this past summer. Instead of getting the ones I had wanted, she got me Mr. Cupcakes. First of all, the presentation was pretty terrible. I've seen some beautiful cupcakes in my lifetime, where you can tell the bakers really care about the presentation and the shop itself. These cupcakes however were messy and didn't look insanely appetizing. We had gotten a fairly big range of flavors, and some were decent. Most of my family didn't seem to enjoy them very much, however. They were just okay. If I wasn't such a big fan of a certain other nearby cupcakery, I might have enjoyed this more. This place is awesome! The cupcakes are baked daily, so they're very fresh. We took a cupcake decorating class at the Clifton location with Christine and it was very worth it. We decorated cupcakes and got to take some of theirs home too. We also sampled some flavors there, so all in all got to try a variety including, French Toast, Carrot Cake, Raspberry Cheesecake, etc. All great! My favorite is definitely the Viva Las Leches, which is a tres leches cupcake. It is so moist and delicious. They were incredibly moist, which is a must in cupcakes. I've come here 2x since I heard about it through Z100 morning show maybe a year ago. So far I have tried the Red Velvet, PB&J, French Toast and Tiramasu. I am just not a fan of cream cheese frosting I have decided but the red velvet cupcake itself was very delicious. The PB&J tasted exactly like the sandwich, so good., very rich. My favorite was the French Toast, it was awesome. The Tiramisu was ok but it couldn't compete with the French Toast.
