New year, new us! I would ask her a question and she'd audibly sigh and in the middle of me simply asking what soda's they had today , SHE CLOSED THE WINDOW!!!!!!!!! Love this place!! Wanted to give an updated review as their quality and quantity are the same!! They haven't succumbed to reduced quality since covid like many other restaurants. Their prices are fair and have only slightly gone up over the years. This is a West side staple. If you're looking for yummy gyros, this is the place. Always a hefty serving esp compared to others. There is a drive thru but I would recommend calling ahead because it takes time as it is made to order. I didn't take any pics this time because I was too hungry and dove right in. There is absolutely no way they charged me $30 and then cooked this up and thought it was acceptable . The fish is so overcooked it's unrecognizable. It was sooo dry and flavorless. Inedible. I've 1st came out to the restaurant back in 2014 where I had hot, fresh, and very delicious catfish. Over, the few years I had catfish, rib tips, and chicken wings. Last time I had food from Mr. Gyro's was back in 2018. Today Saturday Oct. 2nd 2021 my mom wanted lunch there. We, both wanted catfish unfortunately they didn't have any catfish that day. I had large rib tips, and fries. The ribs tips were fixed in the oven, very tender, sauce wasn't spicy. I had about 10 rib tips that were very large. My mom had the Alaskan whiting fish fried hard. Mr. Gyro's does have a drive-thru, you can order their food from Door Dash, Grub Hub, carryout, and you can dine in to eat. The restaurant is small, women's restroom was clean, there aren't stairs in the restaurant so accessible to everyone. Mr. Gyro's restaurant is known for the delicious gyros, Italian beef dogs, Chicago hot dogs, polish dogs, and cheeseburgers. Etc. If, you're in the area make sure you checkout this gem on the West side. It's a small yellow building that you can't miss. read more

I have been a customer for 24 years and today was the worst food I have ever had , I know the owner and her husband and their kids from being a customer , and I am a chef , every condiment I ordered was temps at 50/55 degrees ( temperature danger zone ) I used my own dressing , didn't eat the feta in fear of becoming sick and the hummus they attempted to serve me in carry out went to the trash after taking pics of it , I am mortified and I hope they aren't selling their place that I loved so much to the two guys in drive threw who also gave me uncooked fries that I couldn't eat , all n all , unless the owner can give me a reason for this I am never going back and he charged 28 dollars for hummus Greek salad with gyro ( 10.99 ) on the menu board and a side of fries , all bad .. the gyro meat wasn't up to proper temp .. Here's the thing - Mr. Gyro's is exactly what you'd find in Chicago. Their gyros are terrific, they have Italian Beefs (yes, actually quality Chicago-style), Chicago dogs and pizza puffs. The food is affordable, good, and you won't have to wait too long. This place is off west 38th near moller road. They have a drive thru and you can go inside to order. The menu is pretty big as well. I read a review stating the people prefer for you to give the menu item number when ordering. I made sure I looked at the menu ahead of time before I went. Who wants to be the person holding up line because they don't know what they want? Not me lol. I ordered a number 64 which is lemon pepper wings and fries. You have the choice of ordering a 6 piece or 10 piece. I ordered the 6 piece with ranch and also a cup of hot peppers. I also ordered a strawberry milkshake. This is a little gem of great food on the westside of Indianapolis. Not only is the food good but the staff is friendly and welcoming. We have eaten in the dinning area before but ordered "take-out" this time due to the pandemic. I ordered the Gyros Plate with Greek Salad ($8,25) while my wife ordered the Vienna Chicago Hot Dog ($2.25) and an order of Cheese Fries ($2.49). Pick-up time "about 15 minutes". I arrived on time and everything was packaged and ready to go. While their English is much better than my Greek, it still took me a minute to explain that I didn't want the soft drinks that come with each meal at no extra charge. Arriving home, we un-packaged the meals and prepared to enjoy them. The Gyros Plate was loaded with meat, almost more than I could eat...but I did. It was excellent as was the Greek Salad. My wife is a Chicago native and wanted to see if the Vienna Chicago Hot Dog was as good as "the real thing". She declared it to be so saying it was "as good as Portillo's". A high complement from a Chicagoan. The Cheese Fries (no idea why she ordered them and neither did she) were declared good as well. While my meal was fine, her only complaint was that the dog & fries were a little cold. This was probably due to the travel from the restaurant to home and dismissed. All in all, I highly recommend this restaurant for all the reasons above. I should also note that they have an extensive menu selection. Way more that would be expected of a small, family-owned location. We already have plans for our next meal there. read more

It doesn't look like much from the outside with it's bright yellow exterior and drive-up window. Even on the inside, you place your order at the counter where there is a huge list of available items like a fast food restaurant. Not only gyro's, but hot dogs, burgers, french fries, and Philly sandwiches are available too! So, even though the menu is filled with choices, a white board with the daily special for about $8 caught my eye: Gyro dinner with my choice of fries or Greek salad and a beverage. I went with the salad and helped myself to the self-serve soda dispenser. I selected one of the booths on the side of the dining area (a number of 2-tops were available and some where grouped as 4's and 6's). Within a few minutes, they called my number and I was ready to dig in. (Note that they have plastic ware and napkins near the soda dispenser). I started with the side Greek Salad that had fresh iceberg lettuce cut to bite-sized pieces and topped with feta cheese, tomato, white onion, and dressing. Olives and a pepper where also included (both had seeds inside). Really nice taste and just enough dressing to coat the salad with flavor without being too much. The gyro was served on a styrofoam plate with an 8" pita as a base. The seasoned beef and lamb gyro meat was tasty on its own without being dry. The gyro came with a house sauce and was also topped with more tomato slices and white onion. Excellent! I'm not an oficianado when it comes to Greek and Mediterranean food, but this tasted great and I would gladly order it again. So tasty that I made a point of telling the manager how much I enjoyed it. So, I'm not sure why they offer so many other items when they make such a great gyro. They obviously know that they are good since they put Gyro in the restaurant name. My advice would be to drop some of the clutter from the menu and make sure the gyro's are prominently featured on the menu. Review #489 read more

Was in the area around lunch time so decided to stop by this place, as I was craving a gyro. The outside has a run down appearance, and the inside is much the same. But they do have some cool antique decor that give it an old time diner feel. The menu is huge, ranging from gyros to hot dogs to fried catfish and everything in between. There is surely something to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. I ordered a gyro and greek salad. The greek salad was really good and worth coming back for, but I was a little disappointed with the gyro for a restaurant that has the namesake. The meat was a bit dry and seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. Would be interested to try some other things on the menu. I gave 1 star for the Gyros and Hummus plate . Second star for the huge portions. Third star is for having a drive through. Lol. Fourth star is for the fast and friendly service. And the fifth one just cause I wanted to. I usually order to go, but I have dined in and the food is served on styrofoam plates no biggie. Baklava is yummy. The only thing I didn't like is that they have PEPSI products I prefer Coca Cola. Anyway when I get a craving for a hot dog and fries or Italian sausage or beef I come here.
