Back in high school (I'm about to really date myself) when I worked at the Kmart on Madison Avenue I used to come down to King Gyros at least once a week for lunch. Since then, I have moved away and haven't made it down to this side of town very often. Fast forward to the weekend of May 1. We got a Val pack coupon envelope in the mail that had coupons for here. I had totally forgotten about this place until seeing their advertisement. That Saturday we're trying to figure out what to have for lunch and I thought about this place. So we hopped in our vehicle and took a ride to the near Southside. This place is really gone downhill and it is really freaking gross inside. I wish we would have just gone through the drive-through so I couldn't see anything because the food is still really good. It's made fresh, it's flavorful, and it's a decently priced. Don't get me wrong, I still ate it, but I was still grossed out. I walked the entire restaurant, trying to find a clean table, and there was not a single clean table in the establishment. Our napkin holder look like it hadn't been wiped off in decades. Before making the decision to actually eat the food I did check out their health score on Google. Seemed like a fairly safe bet. We will not be eating here again, though. It's a shame because the food is good, but the place is just so disgustingly dirty. read more

Wow! The employees think it's ok to put a sign up on the drive thru window that says "please tip". The utter sense of entitlement blows me away and I almost canceled my order right then and there but instead paid with exact change. I tip generously for SERVERS and delivery drivers and I'll tell you why Servers make $2.13 a hour and have to deal with people for over a hour at every table and hope no one's rude, if so they deal with it . I highly doubt you make $2.13 a hour so give me a break and what do you guys do??? You put food in a bag and your customer interaction is non existent. Shame on you for having that sign up!! Try carrying heavy trays up and down stairs for 4-5 hours straight and not being able to eat until about 10pm What do you guys do??? You put food in a bag and expect a tip? This is absolutely my go to place for a gyro. There was a time this year that I was going here at least once a week. They have a very large menu with everything from the famous gyro to catfish dinners. Everything I have ever gotten here is priced well and extremely tasty. The service is not perfect but efficient and the restaurant is basically fast food, but well worth a visit. read more

I have been wanting to try this for a while now and unfortunately I wasn't very impressed. I was expecting a mom and pop type place with fresh food and it was essentially the same quality as stadium food you'd get at a football game. The menu was quite extensive though, so I plan to give it a second try and hoping the other items I try are better. They have significantly cut down on portion sizes while upping the prices. These so called chicken tenders are the size of nuggets at places. I could get more chicken in a 10 piece nugget at McDonald's for lesser money than getting 5 extra small tenders. The fries are extra soggy. Always up for some Greek food, I decided to give King Gyros a try for lunch. They offered take out only because of the quarantine, so I got my food from the drive thru. The restaurant can easily be spotted from the road as it is a big yellow building with red trim. It was quite busy when I went on a Friday afternoon and there were probably 5 cars ahead of me in the drive thru. I ordered a gyro with a small side of fries and extra tzatziki. The meal was just under $10 and boy was it a ton of food! The gyro itself was pretty good, pita was soft, meat was tender and the tzatziki was more creamy than others I have tried. The fries were a bit soggy but then again I ate the food about 20 minutes after ordering it since I got it to-go. Overall, nice little joint on the near south side of Indy for fast, good food at a fair price. Of note, although it is called "King Gyros" they offer much more than just gyros! read more

In my opinion...best gyro in Indianapolis, no debate. The inside is dated, but there is plenty of seating. Service is always pleasant. Glad they are open again. Great value. Lots of food. The gyro plate is huge. I can get at least 3 meals out one order, my husband eats half for dinner and saves the other half for lunch the next day. This is basically the McDonald's of Greek food, but some how the prices are high for the low quality of food. Gyro meat was pretty bad, reminds me of Mediterranean baloney. Service was fine until they left out the fries in my order... no big deal mistakes happen, but when I called and let them know they told me I was mistaken and argued about $4 worth of fries on a $50 meal. They told me "I guess you can come get the fries if you want to". So I did. When I arrived at the store I was meet with more scrutiny about my honesty over the fries. Kinda annoying to have your integrity questioned by teenagers over fries. I wouldn't recommend this place but if you do go here check you order before pulling off. read more

Ok, at least in the case of this restaurant, do not judge a book by its cover. On the outside, and to some extent the inside, the place looks unkept or even vacant. However, there food is awesome. They give you a ton of food and it is delicious. I had the gyro sandwich with fries and jalapeno poppers....mmmmmm. The gyro meat was bursting out of the pita and was so good. They also have a nice sized dining area if you choose to eat in and you can place a delivery (Grubhub) or carryout order directly from the Yelp app. They have a wide array of menu items to choose from like burgers, wings, cheese steak.... Still a huge fan of this place and my go-to is the Gyro Salad. It's a delicious house-dressed Greek salad topped with gyro meat, huge cubes of feta, juicy pepperonci and kalamata olives. Now, I usually throw the olives out the window, but what are ya gonna do? It's very good and is a far better option for getting-less-fat-me than the option with pita and french fries. It was a very quaint little family-style place with a few arcade games and some toy, sticker, and candy vending machines, which is great for kids that get a little hyper active at a sit down restaurant or waiting for take out. My boyfriend got the chicken strip basket for 4.99 and wasn't expecting much- he got five huge strips and a mountain of fries and was quite satisfied. I ordered a Gyro plate with an extra pita. The meat provided was "sufficient" for 2 pitas. I received 2 pieces of tomatoes and a "scant" amount of onions. The feta cheese was barely enough for one pita. The dill pickle was fresh and crisp, and the tzatziki sauce was good. The food temperature was good. The ice tea dispenser was empty. When I mentioned that there was no raspberry tea, the girls response was, "we didn't turn it on." The restaurant was filthy, from the door handle that led in, to the tabletops and floors. If you want to see the largest contrast in King Gyros, if you're ever up in Plymouth, IN, check out the one there. You won't go away hungry there! For almost $17.00, I won't be back to this location again. Sad, because I've generally had good luck at these restaurants. There must be something about the cleanliness in this chain. Come it's a king gyros...every state has them only difference in them are the arcade games an the cable service, this is one of the better ones you can get too, let's be honest it's not the place for table service. Anyways got my chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks after a few minutes of waiting and my mozzarella sticks were cold! The quality and size of the gyros was excellent! Overall my impression was of a small local restaurant that provides a great value. The tzatziki sauce was very good. I had the Gyro combo and my wife had the chicken Gyro combo. It was very busy but the service was fast and efficient. They also have a drive-through that seems to move very quickly as well. I've come to this restaurant for the least 15 years and it used to be a really good place to come throughout the years they've changed the people in here the only person that state is a guy I believe is the owner the food quality has been changing in the more and more that we go the people that he has here that are working young will continue to speak in Porten languages laughing and speaking about the people that are through there they don't get your orders right anymore and then tell you know you didn't order it that way when it's written on the paperwork and the only time that they don't make fun of people that are in there or talk crap or be rude to them is only when the owner guys in there it went the prices of went up almost doubled to get more hateful people taking care of you in the restaurant which it used to be a place I would recommend to everybody and now because of the way that the young kids are in that store I will not recommend them ever again and pretty sad to see that we now will not come here after this evenings shenanigans I litteraly saw a young man and another piercing their ears on the food line or at the minimum changing ear rings how gross !!!!
