My hoop is a peice of junk. Fell over after one week of use. Do not suggest doing buissness with the company. It is a scam

I'll start by saying we had a positive experience with Mr Hoop and I hope my review helps others gain confidence with him to give him your business. At first, I was worried. Around the time my husband contracted Mr Hoop to install a hoop in our driveway, I stumbled upon a post where a few local people had posted some pretty negative and damaging reviews. Then I found this Yelp page. We reached out to Mr Hoop to discuss the negative reviews and he gave us an explanation and a reassurance. Mr Hoop came to scout the site, on time. He started the project on time (with a legitimate rain delay). A few days later, he came and installed the hoop. All in, the process took ten days. As far as the negative reviews about Mr Hoop go, in my opinion, there are always two sides to every story. We took the approach of being up front with our concerns, kept communication open, and achieved a positive result. read more

I had just paved a basketball court in my backyard and I wanted a, excuse my language, kick ass net. Go big or go home. I went to the box store and the Goalrilla net would take weeks to get and install. I decided to Google basketball net installation and found Mr. Hoops. I saw that the they installed Danny Ainge, Paul Pierce and various other Boston sports icons courts. I called Eric and he told me everything could be done by Saturday. It was a Tuesday afternoon when I called him. I also saw that he has some terrible reviews but I he could get this done so much quicker than everyone else so I just took the chance. Scammed us out of money and backboard. I really wish I had seen the other reviews. It is bizarre how someone can scam so many people and still legally be able to run a business. Highly do not recommend. It must be friend writing over and over again that they were surprised by the negative reviews. DO NOT CALL HIM. Wanted a hoop installed as a birthday gift for my husband. Took my deposit and said if we paid in full the following week he could include our order in with a group of others and get it installed right away. Great! Should have known... Two months later, the anchor was installed but never returned to install the hoop. Does not respond to emails or phone calls. I see on venmo he's still taking deposits for new hoops, so who knows. read more

Eric is great before he has your money, once he has your money, good luck getting him to respond to any of your messages. I had him come over to take a look at where I wanted the hoop installed and he was very responsive. I paid him half up front and he was great about getting the base poured and getting the hoop actually set up. When they finished, I paid him the rest of the amount owed. I went out that following night and measured the hoop and they installed it a few inches short, it's supposed to be 120 inches from the rim to the ground, it was only 117.5 or so. I called and left 3-4 messages and never got a response. I also wanted him to paint lines, but he has never called me back. Seems like almost every review is the same on this guy. Was hesitant to reach out to Erik based on the reviews here but in most situations people only talk about the bad and not always the good. Erik and his team were super professional. We had issues with Dicks Sporting Goods Delivering the wrong parts. Erik and his team went out of their way to not only pickup the correct part that was required (which was an hour away)but also returned the part that Dick's wrongfully delivered. We purchased our Goalrilla hoop online. It arrived on Monday, we called Mr Hoop on Tuesday and he was able to squeeze us in to pour the base. They came back 3 days later and by Friday afternoon, our son was playing basketball on our new hoop. Great communication, cleaned up all the packaging material including the wood palet so we didn't have to lift a finger. read more

Five stars for Mr. hoop! I had used Mr. hoop previously about 12 years ago in Needham and had a perfect experience so I did not hesitate to call on them again for a hoop and installation in Cohasset at our new home. From initial contact to instal, Eric and his crew were on point. I needed the hoop done by my daughter's birthday and they came an did it in the rain As scheduled. I have a bit of an odd shaped driveway and a hill, Eric was able to meet with me and help select the perfect location which was one that I had not thought of. Mr. Hoop was referred to my husband in early August. August 15th, Eric came and spoke to my husband. My husband was leaving for work for several months so paid him in full that day ($2,000) Eric said he'd be back the following week to pour the base and 3 days later, install the hoop. A month went by and not a word. I finally searched for his information and left a message. Eric did call me back and came up with some lame excuse. A few days later, they showed up unannounced and poured the base. 3 weeks went by and I left 3 messages. None to be returned. My final one was asking for a refund. Finally spoke to my husband to inform him still no hoop two months later. He texted him. Eric replied and said he spoke to me a few times and that there was an issue with the hoops coming from China. He did show up a few days later to install the remainder. He takes your money, doesn't tell the truth and doesn't show up when he's supposed to. Anyone who is thinking of using Mr. Hoop-DON'T! We paid almost $2K upfront about 3 1/2 months ago. Eric Elofson came and poured the concrete and that was the last time we saw him. After repeated texts and phone calls, he keeps giving my husband all kinds of excuses- in Maine dealing with ailing parents, problems with production of hoops in China. Yet when we called Creative Playthings, they have the same exact product in stock. I have 2 very upset children as this was a Christmas present for them. Extremely disappointing considering I always like to support individuals running small businesses in our town. I also live in Wellesley right down the street from where Mr. Hoop lives. read more

I just started googling to find out if others had a problem. We are in the same boat. Paid (which he of course collected right away), 4 weeks for base and said would be back on Thursday to install hoop, and now nothing. No response to many phone calls etc. I have a very disappointed son and a very angry mother!!! UPDATE: Still no hoop, even though he is apparently telling people that all the yelp reviewers have been satisfied. What a joke. UPDATE #2: After threatening legal action we now have a basketball hoop installed. And to the reviewer that says we were simply impatient, that is not the case at all. I work in procurement and can appreciate the fact that delays happen, but a good business will communicate these things in a timely manner not ignore you. read more

Paid in full, delays in installing the base, finally did it. Now two months later still no hoop. This after my husband contacted him repeatably and he apologies and said the hoop will be installed, tomorrow, no questions asked. That was one month ago. We have demanded a refund and he is not replying to our messages. to Mr. Hoop: if you see see this, know that we will follow up with legal action, will contact the Small Business Bureau in Massachusetts and report you. My children who were expecting their basketball hoop installed two (or three) month ago when you cashed our check, will help me put together flyers and hang them everywhere in Newton, Weston, and Wellesley announcing the fraud that you are so that no one ever contacts you again. Same story as many of the other previous reviews. Paid Eric in FULL, took him several weeks to pour the base, then several weeks of delay with no response. He finally got back to me and said he had been in Maine for several weeks on vacation and has two family reunions... I told him I wanted a refund but would pay him for the work done to date. he wrote me a check and it bounced due to insufficient funds. I have filed a suit against him in court but have reached out several times in writing asking if he would be willing to try to settle this amicably and no response. His response to me in writing when I asked for a refund was "Seriously?!!! Do u think Mr Hoop is a joke!!!!!! We have 35 customers right now that we have poured footing for and are trying to get finished!! If u want a refund, no problem Drop it off tomorrow!!" read more

Eric Olofson stole my money and my hoop. We moved and asked him to uninstall my hoop and then reinstall at the new address. He came and picked up the hoop. He poured the base at our new address back in September, and he has "been in Maine with his elderly parents" ever since. So, I am left without a hoop and my money. This guy and his company is a total fraud. I have been super patient with him until I just recently looked at this site. I am lawyering up as well. read more

Eric took out our hoop for installation of new driveway. After many attempts to reach him he said he would install it back. Our hoop was cracked and he said he could fix it and install. We had a great experience with Mr. Hoop. I was hesitant at first because of the negative reviews but we decided to go with him and I am glad we did! Eric was a very nice guy and had his guys drive all the way to Rhode Island to install our Goalrilla hoop within a week because he had an extra in the storage unit. I had the same experience as Jennifer D. I ordered a hoop and install from him in June 2015. He did nothing until July 2015. He installed the base. He then said over email prior to July 4th that the manufacturer sent a damaged backboard and he had to send it back. I called him after that 10 times and he didnt respond. I also emailed him 5 times he didnt respond. I finally called the manufacturer last week (August 2015). They told me that he hasnt ordered from them since 2012. They have been trying to contact him, but he isnt responding to them either. Basically he lied and has stolen $1,600 dollars from me. Be very very careful. I don't know how this guy is in business. I called a month ago and it took over a week to get a return call. He quoted me a higher price than was on his website to remove a hoop and haul away. Once we got the price straight he said he would be by within the week to remove. Three weeks later no call no service no response from an email sent. We couldn't be more pleased with Mr. Hoop. We had them remove an old basket and footing, install a new basket and footing, and paint lines on our driveway. Eric responded IMMEDIATELY to my inquiry, and was out to the house within 2 days. Within a few days of contacting Mr. Hoop, his team removed my old basket and covered up the old footing, and laid the new foundation (so that they would be ready to go when my new basket arrived). When my new hoop was delivered, I texted Eric to let him know and it was installed and lines painted the VERY NEXT DAY! I highly recommend Mr. Hoop!! These guys know what they are doing. read more

Five stars!!! We called Eric in early April since many of our family and friends had used him in the past to see if he could get a hoop installed for us before Easter for the kids. He did not disappoint and came the very next week to pour the base and installed the hoop a few days later. The entire process only took about a week. Do not trust what Eric tells you. I have had the same experience as the other one star reviewers. He sweet talks you, tells you what you want to hear, gives you a 'discount' for full payment upfront, promises a hoop within a couple weeks and that's where it ends. He takes advantage of trusting people for his obvious cash flow issues. The base was installed and then nothing except a disappointed couple of kids and a pissed off mother. Despite repeated texts and phone calls, no response. Next step unfortunately is legal action. Do not use this guy. I don't understand how he is still in business. read more

Mr. Hoop is terrible. He is very quick to get payment but after 4 months and several calls and emails we still do not have our hoop installed. Most reviews seem similar... he doesn't come back and doesn't care. I would definitely recommend finding another company. read more

About 2.5 months ago, we called him to have our hoop installed. We payed him the money and he wouldn't come out to install the hoop and wouldn't return our calls. Almost a month and a half later, he came out to our house and they took out the old hoop and put in the cement for the new one. Now we have been waiting almost three weeks for this guy to come out but he never will! We could have been playing basketball with our old hoop still! He even called us back and said that he would come to install the new one on 4 different dates and didn't show up for one of them! This guy is awful! read more

Totally ripped me off!! Cashed my deposit of $200, then said he couldn't buy and setup our hoop and won't return our deposit! We wanted a hoop setup at my cousin's house in July for a family reunion, so I called Eric at Mr. Hoop and had it all figured out in January. I sent him a $200 deposit and he was supposed to buy and setup the hoop the first week of July and then I would pay him the balance. In May I checked in with him to tell him that he could actually set it up anytime in June if that was easier. He avoided my calls for a couple weeks. Finally after 3 weeks he emails me back and says he can't install the hoop. Now it's too late to get any other store to do it as they need to schedule the installation a couple weeks out (and we live in CA so can't do it ourselves). He says he will return my deposit, but never does it. I leave a message in mid July and he says he forgot. I leave another message and he says he went on vacation so forgot to do it again. So, it is now mid August and he never returned my $200, never setup the hoop and never answered any of my phone calls or called me back. Sounds like a coward and a thief to me. Update on 8/24/13 - He answered the phone when my brother called (different area code) and just sent me back my check. To be clear - my cousin's house was in New Hampshire, but he said he could do it even though it was far away. My issue was not that he couldn't do it, but that he waited too long to tell me he couldn't, then avoided me and didn't send back my money. If he had called or written to apologize I wouldn't have done the bad review. But since he gave my money back I am upgrading his stars. I don't think he's necessarily a bad guy in general, but he definitely handled my situation poorly. read more

We had the same experience as everyone else - check cashed a few months ago, base installed, radio silence. I called the hoop manufacturer who put us in touch with the local supplier and that got us nowhere. Finally, my wife called him EVERY FIVE MINUTES one morning until he picked up, and he installed the hoop the next day. So that tactic works. It's a shame we had to resort to that, but it did work. read more
