I had such a great experience at Mr. Mahjong's, and I have to give a huge shoutout to Tom the bartender. Even on a super busy night, he went above and beyond to help me out. I came in with a large bag that normally wouldn't have been allowed inside, but Tom kindly took the time to check it in for me and keep it safe. Despite the bar being packed, he still made sure everything was handled smoothly. When I was ready to leave, he even brought the bag outside for me, which I really appreciated. Because of him, I was able to fully enjoy my night after coming from another event without worrying about my belongings. That level of customer service really stands out. Love this spot. The drinks are good and it's crackin prob way too crackin tbh. Best time to arrive for Fri/sat nights is round 9pm before the crowd starts showing up. After that it gets hella crowded and the party starts which is cool too but just be prepared for that. Drinks are Asian inspired and constantly changing. Mahjong Night was a vibe. Have been seeing Mahjong events hosted at Mr. Mahjong, so my friends and I got tickets for Saturday night, and never have I played mahjong for 3+ hours with the desire to play more! The place (bar and mahjong area) wasn't packed ~8 pm. But as the night plays out, the bar gets packed! Mahjong is hosted downstairs of the bar, with access to the upstairs bar for drinks. My friend and I stumbled upon Mr. Mahjong near the Lunar New Year date, and we're glad we checked out this bar for its fun decorations and unique Asian-inspired drinks. I came to Mr. Mahjong's to catch up with a friend on Saturday night. I saw on their website that Saturday is also mahjong night, but I think they play downstairs. I was upstairs in the main bar area the whole time so can't speak to that. They had a bunch of Halloween decorations up when I came in mid-October. Some of the decorations were quite spooky. That and the red lightining really added to the vibe. Other than the decor, the first thing that hits you when you first walk in is the loud music blasting. We came around 9 pm and already there was a DJ mixing up beats and a small group of people dancing. We decided to stick around for one drink but it was quite loud and we had to shout to make ourselves heard. We ordered our drinks at the bar and sat at the one of the tables near the front, next to the "dance floor" where the DJ was. Their cocktails are $16 and they offer two mocktails for $12 as well. I got the All Simples mocktail, which is made with non alcoholic tequila, kiwi, pineapple, lime, and tonic. I liked it but it was on the sweeter side. This is a good spot to check out on the weekend. Just don't expect to have a deep conversation here. Sit back and enjoy the music and vibes. read more

I enjoy going before it gets too crowded which I feel they usually get more busy after 10 PM. Tonight I ordered two Black Token and was charged $36, so I do think I got overcharged for drinks (menu states $16 and tax was not included). Be mindful of checking your bill before you sign. *** EDIT: manager let me know they do a $2 up charge on drinks after 10PM. I didn't see any signage, but maybe I missed it. Popped into Mr.Mahjongs on a friday night for some food, drinks and games. The drinks were tasty and floral just like how i like them!! The dishes we ordered were the potstickers (average but still good) and the fried chicken sandwhich. The owner was the one serving us food and was very friendly. Overall food and drinks were good. I wasnt amazed but i would definitely come back. After we ate we went to the basement thinking there was people playing mj down there... there was not. Unique bar in the downtown SF area, I liked how it's very Chinese themed. Their concoctions puts a twist to unique asian flavors. We came to Mr. Mahjong for a Hot Ones Challenge hosted by Dear Community. We were able to try this new bar on our list and enjoy a fun Hot Ones challenge. Their food menu was also unique. They have a happy hour from 5-7pm! Rice Paper nacho - 7/10, not tortilla chips but fried rice paper. It felt a little on the saltier end which I didn't like but overall the flavor is bold and there. One of my favorite bars! They are on the newer side. Note that on any given night there could be a variety of events/DJ sets/open mics, the owners are intentional about inviting people in for community events and seem really sweet. One time I even stumbled upon an SF Craft Club meetup and ended up spontaneously journaling with them! There are select mahjong days which I believe are Tues or Sat and they have days they teach mahjong. The kitchen is open pretty late! Drinks are superb, they concoct creative drinks that often have the likes of jasmine/oolong tea, ube, mango, etc., (I think the drink menu changes often) and bartenders are great! Cool place. They took over Topsy's which was one of my favorite bars that shuttered due to covid. Location wise they're in the heart of the financial district and conveniently located for anyone staying in the area. Our team hung out at Mr. Mahjong's for drinks and they're solid. We pretty much took over the entire place given the number of people and they were happy to host us. Drinks were very strong and unique. I do miss the old russian dolls on the ceiling though. I came here for a mahjong event and it was very cool! As you enter the bar, there are many decorations. The ceiling is full of Chinese lanterns and the vibe is red. There were dragons on the ceilings too. I'm not sure if all this is for lunar new year but it definitely created its own sort of ambiance. The bar is on the first floor and on the side, there were stairs leading downstairs to their mahjong setup. It gave more of a speakeasy vibe going downstairs. The kitchen also seems to be there as there were wafts of food coming downstairs. There are several tables for mahjong and the instructor was very helpful in explaining the rules and sat down to play with us! His tiles were face up so that made it easier to learn the rules. What a fun place. We came for the kpop demon hunters party and both DJs were excellent. No one was really dancing and there really isn't room to dance which was a bummer. People did end up dancing wherever they were standing later in the night. It was hard to get the bartenders attention at first but they were all super nice when we finally connected. I would say that they don't really make great mixed shots so just ask for simple straightforward shots. The spritzer (with calico and lychee) was sooooooo goooood. You must try. NIGHTIME- 1) 1 unisex restroom REALLY???? At a drinking establishment. I think necessities are more important than having a fancy new eastern designed establishment in dt to draw the western crowd. 2)So a bunch of girls thought they were funny when they were last in the back of the line and they thought it was hilarious to knock on the door even though they know the lines damn well near all the way to the center of the restaurant while everyone's waiting. Any one with decent moral values can see that you wait your turn like everybody else. SECURITY did NOTHING about it. When they started knocking on my door , I came out to confronted them to try to understand why they did what they did when obviously the users going to come out looking at the next person in line( I blamed the wrong person btw ). Of course now security pushes me away and tells me to leave. And no I wasn't drunk, needed a beer after that and left right away. Temple nightclub had the same problem with restrooms post pandemic, maybe they can learn from them. I don't usually leave reviews let alone bad reviews for bars.
