This was a tough review. Do I just give my review based on my opinion of the food and service? Or rate it based on my perspective of the owner's customer base? Or do I blend the two? I decided to rate the restaurant based on my opinion of the food. The owner is very nice and attentive. The server was also friendly. My wife and I ordered the eggs benedict because both of us having been craving it for a while. In our dozen years together, we have never gone to a restaurant and ordered the same thing since we both love food and ordering different meals allows us to pick off each others plates. It was a mistake to order the same thing today. The eggs benedict was not good. It was bland and either the hollandaise, the muffin or the ham didn't taste right. An hour after eating the meal, there is still a strange aftertaste sitting in my mouth. I would compare the food to eating pre-made meals from the frozen section at Safeway (I am assuming, based on the smells that came out of our kitchen when an old roommate made nothing but Safeway frozen foods). The restaurant has been there for 27 years and, talking to the owner, has a strong customer base. It seems like the restaurant is for people who like traditional and bland foods. If you are looking for something original and flavorful, stay home and cook something good. (When is the North Bay going to get a breakfast place that cooks original food for breakfast and occasionally adds new menu items? - The Tea Room uses a chalk board for their menu and they still don't add anything new!) If you want a breakfast place that serves traditional foods, give Mr. Mom's a try. They have great reviews, the place is clean and we did have a good experience with the staff. Huge disappointment. Idk how this place has 4/5 stars. I went in to order breakfast to go for my gf and I since there was no online menu. No problem. I ordered eggs benedict for her and the hungry trucker for myself. The eggs benedict was awful. Eggs were not runny but rather cooked. Same with my eggs sunny side up. My home fries had no taste. There was no seasonig at all. Not even salt n pepper. My pancakes were burnt. I didn't even think about eating them. I paid $30 for food I didnt eat. Never going back. This past week, my girlfriend and I were on a road trip, and stopped here for breakfast. I am glad that we did! The food has great portions, super cheap and INCREDIBLY delicious!! So I have mixed feelings about this place! Based on our first visit alone, I would have given it 4 maybe even 5 stars!! Parents were visiting from Florida and we wanted a good, home-cooked breakfast without spending an arm and a leg... it was easy to find, easy to park (nice shade for our sweet dog left in the car!) and the food was yummy! Veggie scramble was yummy, french toast TO DIE FOR and Dad's pancake's were scrumptious! Our waitress that day was super nice, very attentive and chatted it up with my parents about Florida! What a great experience! But then....we loved it so much we went back 6 days later....and that visit was worth only about 2 stars!! Our first waitress we had the week prior was not there and in her place were 2 very young girls who looked like they rolled out of bed wearing the same skimpy tops and ripped denim shorts they wore to a movie or bar the night before. They looked miserable to be there!! It wasn't that busy yet it took FOREVER for one of them to even bring us menus! Glasses were dirty, food was unremarkable, but the service was the worst part! Even after asking 3 times, my mom never got jam for her toast!! It was smoldering hot inside as well with flies buzzing about. Bad day!! Not sure if I will chance it and try it again....that last visit makes me want to stay away for a while....however memories of our first trip caused me to still give it 3 stars..... but go at your own risk!! read more

Wiped out from a great night in the city, heading back to Santa Rosa on a Sunday mid-morning, I just wanted a quiet place with a delicious breakfast. My wife left it up to me. GOOD choice!! I got a $7.99 breakfast special with 2eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages and half a large waffle, my wife got a spinach omelette and hash browns. We came here after hearing all the hype, but was not impressed. Waitstaff was great, but the place feels dust and dirty. Breakfast portions were good, prices were good, but food was mediocre. Bacon was burnt. French toast was good. My husbands pancakes were not great. It's a greasy spoon. I like affordable breakfast spots and I don't need fancy, but I like a place to look and feel clean ...and have the breakfast basics down. I doubt we'll be back with places like Sax's and North Bay Cafe down the street which are cheap, clean and cook well. read more

Came to our regular breakfast to sit outside with our little dog. There was one man in the middle of patio w/a dog who looked calm. He was talking on his cell the whole time while his dog barked & tried to eat mine. I asked if we could sit in the small "closed" patio to get further away & the staff refused us stating they were "closing" (even tho it was only 1:15). The man was never asked to get off phone or to control his dog which was lunging at us. The staff would not help & we left. We will never come here again after 20 years of patronage. read more
