Mr. Natural is a combination pharmacy-bakery-restaurant. It is 100% vegetarian, and caters to gluten-concious folk with their gluten-free menu. The mushroom tacos and nachos are exquisite. Also, they sell frozen enchildas at 6 for $4.95. The service was very good. The salsa could have been more flavorful. The facility also doubles as a yoga studio. Mr. Natural is open from 8 to 8 except for Sundays, when it's closed. read more

When I moved to this area, Mr. Natural was the first restaurant I ate at . . . and it is still the best vegetarian/vegan food in Austin. Family owned and very friendly to a very eclectic group of customers. Dog friendly al fresco dining on a covered patio. Daily specials are wonderful, especially the potato flautas and the Milanesa. Unfortunately I was quite underwhelmed with our dinner experience here last night. :-( We are both vegetarians so we were excited by the idea of an all veggie restaurant. The wait staff were nice and quite attentive, but sadly the food wasn't very good. My hubby had a veggie burrito, which was very bland and I had the veggie BBQ, which was decently spiced but the texture was just not enjoyable at all. It was very rubbery and just not good. I ate about 3 pieces and then stuck to the rice and beans that I had. We would have loved to give this place a better review, especially as vegetarian food is hard to come by in meat-loving Texas and because we love family-run businesses, but the food was just not very good. :-( read more

Loved going to Mr Natural but something happened in the last 6 months where the service keeps getting worse and worse. The time before last I ordered a taco with vegan tofu scramble instead of egg and it came out with egg. The time before that it took 30 minutes for the food to come out even though they were not busy. Wanting to give them one more chance, I went in today, sat down and waited 15 minutes and no one came to bring water, offer a menu, or even say hello. Unacceptable because they were not very busy and a party that came in after us got the waiters attention. This used to be the place I'd bring family from out of town but no more. I would murder for their soyrizo. That's all there is to it. A chorizo and cheese breakfast taco = amazing!!!!! Best thing I've had in Austin. I would even dare to go as far as to say that their soyrizo is better than Handlebar in Chicago's, which has set the standard for a long, long time. Mmmmm. I've been going here for years. My only complaint is that they never, ever create new dishes. They have about 10 basic meals, and just rotate daily. But the food is still good. The Mexican food tastes, more or less, like Mexican food. Even if it vegetarian Mexican. Which I love, since it isso uniquely Austin. read more

Quiet and clean. Lunch is always so tasty every time I come to this location. Staff is friendly and courteous. I got the yummy cheese enchiladas with the spicy potatoes and the spinach salad on the side. Mr. Natural is a local Latino owned-and-operated spot on the East Side, offering healthy vegan/vegetarian Tex-Mex, BBQ, fresh juices, and homemade desserts. The lunch special changes daily and includes a salad, main dish, and two sides for $8. They also have a full menu, my faves of which include THE BEST taco salad in Austin (soyrizo, mmm), as well as the bomb ass veggie BBQ sandwich. The staff is sweet, helpful, and seem happy to be at work (a good sign about the integrity of the owners/management). They have a second location on S. I love to visit this restaurant when I'm in town and I really love the gluten-free & vegan options they have to offer. My biggest complaint is the food is never on time typically we go get a lunch special and for some reason they're out of one or two items so when this happens I have to wait an additional 20-30 minutes to wait for my missing food item which is not ideal. I find that patience is a virtue and you definitely need to exercise it here because the majority of the time you do not get a complete order once you sit down to eat at the restaurant should you choose to do so. I don't understand the lack of food preparation especially for lunch specials. The food is really yummy so luckily I go on a weekend when I have a more flexible schedule. For those with a sweet tooth I highly recommend chocolate GF donuts. I would give it more stars as their food is super yummy but with so many options to chose from, their customer service and food prep have to improve. This Austin staple is great for vegan foodies but PLEASE PLEASE improve. read more

Blechk. I wanted to like Mr. Natural. But I don't. Here's why: They forgot my salad in my to-go order. I had to add my own ice to the smoothies. The veggie turkey sandwich contained about .5 ounces of veggie turkey. It tasted like mostly mayo as a result. The veggie burger was solid as a rock. Customer service was very friendly (despite forgetting my salad). But the food was way below what I hoped for. I always give a place 2 tries. So I'll try again. But the next time I want a good veggie sandwich I'll make the drive over to Bouldin. read more

Went their for breakfast and it was quite hearty (and large). I also had their "sangria" to help balance the richness of my mexican pancake and it was juicy without being earthy. My pancake was really beans and potatoes between tortillas and topped with eggs and salsa. I was stuffed! I need to come back to try their baked goods. read more

I went to Mr. Natural with a friend today for the first time. When we walked in the door we were surprised to find that several of the tables needed to be bused and cleaned and they stayed that way for some time. The place wasn't busy so I don't see that as an excuse. You know what they say about first impressions. I was surprised to find a cafeteria style layout since their web site never really mentioned this. However, I was still able to order at the counter from a menu and they brought my food out to me. I got the Veggie BBQ sandwich. The bread was a whole wheat variety with thick slices but I was expecting a whole wheat bun. A little disappointed about that but not a deal breaker. It just made it hard to eat w/o falling apart. The product (whatever it was) that was the meat substitute was a strange texture. It was like eating ham instead of beef BBQ. I really didn't care for the texture. I think the people that waited on us were very nice and pleasant. However, I wasn't overwhelmed by what I ate. I am definitely going back to try some other things because I don't think it's fair to judge them based on one meal that may have just been a texture thing for me. There are far too few vegan choices in Austin to rule them out just yet. read more

Pretty awesome place to eat at. I thought going vegetarian would be horrible and be full of salads and then a friend told me to try Mr natural and I was hooked. I have to be careful bI don't go crazy with the amazing bakery selection. My nephew is allergic to eggs so his parties had birthday cake he wasn't allowed to eat. It was so sad. I've had great experiences and poor with this location... their veg-BLT is the bomb as is their vegan queso. The quality of the food is fantastic considering the price. However, my last visit it took them 35 minutes to make two sandwiches. And both a man and woman at the register did not seem to respond with more than "oh, it's coming..." when I mentioned the time. Furthermore, their pastries are old and absolutely disgusting/overpriced. It gives vegan pastries a bad reputation (which is lame as there are many delicious, quality vegan pastry shops in Austin). A solid mediocre spot but good if you're starving and stopping in for some vitamins or herbal supplements. The location on S. Lamar is way better. read more

One of the best vegetarian food places ever! I cannot stress enough how much I am in love with Mr. Natural's! The menu is hit or miss for me, but these are my staunch favorites (like please try them!!!): - Burger BOSS - Texas burger - Taco salad with pinto beans, Monterey cheese, and tortilla chips instead of the taco shell (you really really won't regret this!) I also like the chile relleno and veggie fajita, but I've only eaten them once... Haha, so I can't really say that they're in my favorites yet ;) Oh, the only downside is that the food comes out a little slow, so don't come in like starving haha read more
