Wow best vegan cheeseburger I've had! So many people have recommended this local Austin vegan eatery, and I'm so glad I gave it a try! It did take 20 minutes for the food to be ready even when there wasn't a line, and no customers picked up their food while we were waiting so it seemed like we were the only order. There were also bees and bugs that swarmed around when the food was brought out, so we ended up having to eat in the car instead of at the tables outside. I tried the bacon chzburger ($10) while my sister got the Hoss (bbq brisket burger, $12) which she thought was spicy but very good. I thought my burger tasted amazing and savory but also with just a hint of spicy flavor in the ketchup of the cheeseburger. Arlo's was just ok. Personally, I believe that food should taste good whether it's vegan or not. We ordered the popular Bac'n Cheezeburger, The Ranch Hand, and fried pickles. All of them were incredibly salty - I had to drink water after each bite. The Cheezeburger was way too ketchup-y which masked all the other flavors. And the burger turned into mush with food constantly falling out. The Ranch Hand is a chicken wrap with jalapeño ranch. I know this place is known for vegan burgers, but this wrap was the best thing we ordered (though very salty). The fried pickles were crunchy and came in a solid portion size. Disclaimer: I'm a meat eater I had pretty high expectations based on the reviews and what others have said about it. The food was pretty lackluster. I had half a bac'n cheezburger and half a chipotle chick'n. My friends got tacos, mac, and fries. The burger: It was pretty sizable, but that's expected for $9. It had a good amount of toppings, but there was way too much ketchup and mustard and mayo. The patty was very soft and kinda fell apart into the bits it was made of. Due to the hefty amount of sauce and cheese, I just had a sloppy, messy cheeseburger experience. The chicken: It was drier and tougher, just a simple sandwich with not much to it especially in comparison to the overly sauced burger. The fake chicken felt like a processed, dense meatball and had an interesting spiced flavor. My friends got tacos and said they weren't that filling or tasty. The illusion of street or chicken tacos isn't quite real. The mac n cheeze had a strange flavor. The parking is good and the picnic tables are nice. You order online and service is average. It had nice texture and the mac added a nice level of flavor to the burger. You can barely tell it's fake meat! We also got the chipotle chick'n burger. Definitely one of the best vegetarian meals I have ever had. Arlo's is one of three vegan/vegetarian food trucks located in this lot. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch and I was certainly not disappointed. There is a little parking lot right next to the food truck that can hold maybe 10-15 cars. The lot was full when I arrived but there was ample street parking right across the street. There are 5-6 picnic tables set up in front of the truck. Some tables were equipped with an umbrella for shade. I opted for the frito pie burger (hold the cheese) and it was fantastic. The Fritos were fresh and provided a nice crunch to each bite. The bean based chili was cooked just right - the beans had a nice consistency, not too hard and not complete mush. Wonderfully seasoned. The patty itself had a bit of crisp to it and held together throughout the meal. There was a slight lather of chipotle mayo sauce that kind of tied everything together. Arlos off red river-- I experience different service from the two locations. The red river location has poor service all the time ( rude) and will be my last time coming there (3rd time). They messed up on my order, I asked for a Fritos pie burger, and was charge for what I asked for... but they gave me the Fritos pie plate instead! I didn't notice until I was almost home, and then they closed. I contacted them and told me they would refund me and send me an e gift card, I followed up twice and they did not reply. Okay Arlo's! I'm not sure what happened here. I've heard glowing reviews about this place. Some people even claiming they have the best vegan burgers in Austin. I have to say I 100% disagree. There are far better places in Austin with good vegan burgers. 1/5 on taste for sure. And I tried two of your burgers too. I had the Frito Pie and the one with bacon. You only have three burgers to offer and if two were a fail I don't plan to ever come back. Because of the reviews prior to my experience I decided to go for the boat of max and cheese. Biggest mistake of my life. This is hands down the worst mac and cheese I've ever had. It left a weird after taste in my mouth that I could not get rid of. It honestly tasted expired. I typically don't complain to the servers directly. But this needed to be confronted because I really t thought I was eating expired food. And this is a serious issue if it is. I asked the guy if it was expired. And he said no. When I told him this taste really gross his response and I quote "it's vegan". Excuse me?????? Obviously he isn't vegan because why would he say that otherwise? He also said people say the max and cheese here tastes weird. Then fix it?? He not only insulted Arlo's mac and cheese but every vegan Mac and cheese. I told him I've been vegan for literal years. Meaning I've had a ton of different max and cheese in my life and none of them, I'm dead serious none of them were this awful. Hands down the worst I've ever had in the over two decades I've been alive. So I asked for a refund. The guy I spoke with didn't know how so someone else came up. Pressed a bunch of buttons and said he did it. Didn't get it by the way. I was here over a week ago and yes I just checked nothing there. I just happened to be on my Yelp page when the app asked me to review it and decided yeah I will. Bad food, worse service. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Popped by here for a quick bite while hanging out at spider house. On Monday it's the only food truck open that's viable for dinner (the milkshake truck is also open). Their menu was pretty interesting, it looked like a fairly standard American food truck until you realize everything is plant based. I decided to go for the chipotle chicken sandwich and shared some Mac and cheese. After ordering they offered to text us when the food was ready, but no less than 2 minutes after getting back to our seats we got our texts so unless they look busy I wouldn't bother to go back to your seats. As for the chicken sandwich it tasted pretty good, the slaw had a decent chipotle flavor to it. I'd have to try one of their "beef" patties, but I'm not sure what makes their chicken patty chicken flavored. It tasted like a pretty standard veggie burger that wasn't trying to replicate a meat taste. It was a fairly sizable sandwich but on the pricey end for what it is. The first thing I noticed upon getting our mac and cheese was an unusual smell, we were punched in the face with what resembled movie theater popcorn. That flavor stick with us throughout the experience, the Mac and cheese was absolutely drowned in butter. It made for a tasty first couple of bites, but got old pretty fast. Overall I probably don't see myself coming back unless I'm here on a Monday again, but if you do find yourself here the sandwiches seem to be solid. read more

Came here with two other friends and we all ordered something different. I got the Bac'n Cheezeburger, and they got the Chipotle Chik'n and the Hoss. I really enjoyed the Bac'n Cheezeburger - I just wish it had more spice to it! (Luckily I brought hot sauce from home, but if you like spice then I'd add jalapeños). It did not taste vegan at all! My only complaint is that it wasn't the most filling. I had a bite of the Chipotle Chik'n, and it was definitely a different texture meat. It was a thicker patty and the patty itself was bland, but the other toppings made it very flavorful and with a tasty spice. I think this one is more filling. I did not try the Hoss but my friend said the "porq" tasted more of beans. She said this had spice to it as well. Both the french fries and a sweet potato fries were great as well!
