Community staple and favorite. This restaurant has been here forever (pho-ever, hehe) around 2020 and I just only recently had it with my mom. I guess it used to be a Japanese restaurant, but it always looked so fancy on the outside that when I was in MS/HS/college, it looked too bougie to go to. Now 15 years later and with paltry income, I can treat my mom to lunch here! They're open at 11 AM, but we went in at around 10:50 AM since the Open sign was turned and the Open lights were one. Worker there greeted us with a smile, checked up on us the entire time, refilled our waters, brought us bowls to help us split food even when not prompted, and had a smile on the entire time. For the hour that we were there, a single diner came in and a party of 8 as well. They have a written wait list in front and a to go order kiosk, so you can tell they're pretty popular. Both of us got custom pho, which is $17 (the lowest base price unless you get plain) and you get an option of 3 proteins. Add an extra $1 for fresh noodles. We both just opted for the classic thin noodles. I ordered without beansprouts thinking it was already going to be in our broth, but it comes out as a side dish but the plate was enough for my mom and I to share. HUGE portions of pho. The bowl size is easily a large at any other pho restaurant. Both of us finished all of the meat in our order, but there was still a decent amount of noodles left so come in hungry. I ordered my custom pho with beef brisket, flank, and rib eye. Some of the cuts were a bit more fattier with big chunks of chewy gooey fat, which I'm not a fan of and left in the bowl. Other than that, pretty good meat quality. Not the most tender, but not tiny pieces or too dry either. Broth was pretty flavorful, nice depth of taste with the beef stock flavor, the onions and other garnishes. It's a bit fatty in taste, but it makes it richer in my opinion. We got a regular fried rice to try and take home for my brother's lunch. It's a plain one with carrots, peas, and scrambled eggs with some onions, garlic, and pepper (the spice). Light in flavor so it's not mega greasy. Just add some sauce on the side to taste. Overall, not a bad experience. read more

One of our workweek lunch spots. The staff is friendly and efficient, the food is good, and the décor is clean and modern. It's primarily Pho bowls, a couple noodle dishes, a Saigon Sandwich, and a few appetizers. There's a decent amount of parking in this shopping center but it can be busy during lunch hours. The prices haven't gone up in the past six months, but they are a little more expensive than other local pho establishments. We started with an order of 2 Shrimp Spring Rolls ($7.50) which were fresh and came with a Thai peanut dipping sauce. For our entrees, we ordered the No. 2 Steak & Brisket Pho ($17) and a Thai Iced Tea ($5.50). My coworker had the No. 5 Chicken Pho ($17), with a can of soda ($3). They only have one bowl size which is large. The pho bowls have plenty of rice noodles and meat, and the broth is well seasoned. Overall, a good experience and we'd stop in again. read more

In about to try this place for the first time. I got the Vermicelli Salad with Pork as my protein to go , ended up paying $17 and some change in all. The size of the bowl is pretty big. Food is pretty decent. Service is 5 star because server is super friendly snd helpful. Last Sunday night, after shopping at the HomeGoods store in Walnut, we decided to try Mr. Pho California Kitchen since it's in the same plaza. And there's nothing better than having a hot bowl of Pho on a windy, chilly night. Mr. Pho definitely didn't disappoint us. The restaurant was very spacious, with high ceilings and a contemporary interior design. It was very comfortable to sit and eat inside. The menu was simple and straightforward. We ordered their highly recommended #1 Beef Pho Combo ($17), which was absolutely delicious. Everything was perfect--the broth's taste and temperature, the portion size of the noodles and meat, and the quality of the meat, which was fresh. The Iced Thai Tea ($5.50) was great, with the perfect level of sweetness! The service was fast and efficient. This restaurant space at the Walnut Village has revolved into different restaurants over the years, but my husband and I really hope this one stays. It has become one of our go-to spots in Walnut. We usually go for pho and the garlic noodles, but we wanted to try the banh mi sandwich this time. It did not disappoint! ive been here multiple times with family and friends. pho broth is good, solid portions, and generally a good experience. last visit completely changed my opinion. came in on a weekday night, it was busy. it appeared they only had one actual server working the dining room, and noticed kitchen staff was also assisting in bringing food out. i get it, things happen, you're understaffed, but the server seemed he was always in the back and never visible in front. after 15 minutes of being seated, we were able to catch the attention of our waiter and we were ready to order, in which he acknowledged us and went to the back again. during those 15 minutes, three other parties were seated after us. when he finally came back out, he went to the newer tables first to take their orders, and then went back into the kitchen. at this point we got up and left. being understaffed is one thing, but ignoring your customers is another. disappointing because we enjoyed coming here, but there are too many good pho in the area with great service. won't be back. read more

So I gave it 5 stars since I can't give less when there's good service, and there was! Also, we should've tried it dining in as opposed to "Togo". But honestly we didn't really enjoy it:/ the noodles were a little under cooked and more than should've been stuffed into the bowl so we couldn't get the broth in enough! I like the pho here because the broth isn't greasy and they use quality meat. I've been here multiple times, and the pho is consistently good. My most recent visit is what made me want to write this review. Not only is their pho really good, but their service is something that should be mentioned. There was a misunderstanding when we ordered, so we got an extra bowl of pho. We told them it was not ours and they brought it back to the kitchen. That's when our server came out to explain the misunderstanding. After a few minutes, I told them we would pay and take the extra bowl to go, if they could separate the noodles from the soup. The broth was rich and full of depth, and the bone marrow added this buttery, melt-in-your-mouth flavor that took the whole bowl to another level. Easily a 10/10 dish. One of the best and most flavorful pho I've had! They're super generous with the meat too and the price isn't too high!!! They have a diverse selection of meat for the pho that many places won't have like bone marrow, ox tail, and short rib. I got the oxtail and brisket. I thought I didn't like pho -- turns out, I do love pho... when it's yummy , haha. I've tried pho several times before at various locations around LA and SF, and this is my favorite. Favorite by a long shot. Here's what I ordered: * Beef Pho Combination: So, much, meat. Brisket, flank, steak, beef balls, and tons of other meat pieces I couldn't identify. The beef balls were spot on, and I couldn't stop "finding" more meat in the dish! For $16, this was a steal. Having just eaten a ton of ramen -- the broth for which is *always super salty -- the nicely-seasoned-but-not-overly-salty broth was a welcome surprise. I finished my entire bowl of broth (and this is almost a first). The star deduction is for a fully raw slice of beef in my bowl. I thought it was just pink-ish perhaps, but it wasn't cooked at all. Way too chewy, so I spat it back out. Plenty of other beef slices to eat though, and it won't stop me from coming back. Service was fairly fast. I ate here with friends and we didn't notice a particularly long wait. This spot used to be a sushi place. I'd never been, but this pho restaurant is definitely a good replacement. Highly recommend the Saigon sandwiches (AKA bahn mi). Ordered both the chicken and pork sandwiches for my husband and I and didn't have any expectations, but boy did it his place knock it out of the park. The French bread of the sandwich is exactly what every bahn mi should be, crispy and crunchy, but not too hard to bite into. The chicken was flavorful and not dry at all, but best of all was the pork to my surprise. I typically don't go for pork, but they managed to get it crispy in all the right parts and most places can't manage to do that. Mr. Pho California Kitchen brings something new to The Village. Great Vietnamese food is not synonymous with Walnut, but this was a decent Vietnamese restaurant I can recall in the area. I had the spring rolls and pho combination. Spring rolls were okay, but they missing a few ingredients in them that I usually recall from my many years of eating spring rolls at great Vietnamese restaurants in Orange County. The pho combination was impressive for its size and price. Broth was light and not oily, which I really appreciate. Next time, I will need to try the ox tail. Service was friendly. Cold weather means it's the perfect time for a bowl of hot and tasty Pho. I believe this place was a sushi place before and didn't know they changed to a pho place, until I saw it while waiting at the light at valley and grand last week. I went in to place an order to go and it took literally 4 minutes to get my food. I got the #2 steak and brisket and it was really good. A bit oily, but lots of meat, noodles, and flavorful soup. Nicely packed and food was still somewhat hot after a 20 minute drive back to my office. $32 for two phos, which isn't too bad and is the going rate nowadays for pho. Menu looks pretty simple, so I'll be back to try some of the other stuff. read more

I recently checked in and had a wonderful experience! I really appreciated all the Gourmet Visual Communications showing the latest specials and how beautifully detailed all the Menus are in describing all the mouthwatering Vietnamese Delicacies served here :0) I decided to try the Special that included an Egg Roll, Pho, and a Drink for around $20 and loved that I had Fun Options to upgrade my Soft Drink to a more Uniquely Curated House Drink Recipes like the Passionfruit Sunrise which totally kicked the Vibes up to Bougie Vacation Mode for only $2 more :0) The Food came out really fast and gorgeously presented at the perfect piping hot temperatures, and I loved how every table is courteously set with all the utensils and condiments we need to fully savor and enjoy our Vietnamese Fuerza charging experience! The Areas that could use improvement here are clearly the Front of the House Service and Hospitality. There is no Host at the Front to warmly greet or send off Guests with a kind and gracious farewell which is a small but important Game Changer. The Servers are polite but not enthusiastically engaging and didn't follow up after dropping off the food which affects the Service Quality, and the To Go Containers for the Pho should be changed to plastic because the Paper Bowls get soft and weak from the Heat. Overall, I still recommend Mr. Pho and will definitely return the next time I'm in Walnut! read more
