Ambiance is appropriate for a local sandwich shop but the fare is not. They have made some changes that make it unlikely that I will return. Service is through a kiosk computer that obfuscates things like tuna in favor of things like pastrami. I ordered a whole tuna sandwich to carry out thinking I was going to share it with my wife. Ordering online and picking up went well. Small little shop with a few tables and two workers. Ordered a few sandwiches one of which was a kids sandwich; pretty simple just meat and cheese and bread, but thats ok. The reason Im dropping 3 stars is that when I got my sandwich, they left off the bacon I paid extra for, and I paid $5 extra for extra meat but what they did was take the total amount of meat for the sandwich and just divided it between turkey and ham, instead of doubling the amount. The staff are not much for greeting or welcoming customers... instead a very transactional experience. Glad I adjusted my expectations accordingly. I ordered the BBQ Tri-Tip sandwich on marble rye with "everything" except for onions and pepperoncinis. It was freaking amazing! Huge sandwich, generous portions of meat and toppings, great bread... just a very well made sandwich. All the toppings made it a lit I was only able to finish half of it and I'm seriously counting down the moments until I'm hungry again. No kidding The guys behind the counter were really quick churning out all of the orders and while they weren't much for words, they did get those sandwiches out amazingly fast. Sandwiches are great but I can tell they went cheapo on their cookies. They used to baled them themselves, but not anymore. The old ones were not perfect circles, had bigger chocolate chips, and were a lot crispier. What makes it worse is that it really seems like they are just the Safeway cookies, they taste and look just like them, except they are warmed up to make it look like they are authentic. The bread was chewy which I was ok with because I prefer that over a burnt bread, but some of my family did not like how they had to naw off a bite! The flavors were there and the sandwich was definitely filling in my opinion, but still nothing too special! The biggest complaint I had was the cookie. I am a big dessert person so I am always looking forward to something sweet after a meal. When I dug through the bag, I found burnt, completely rock solid hard cookies. These could barely be eaten, and I was appalled that they even felt that they could serve these. If you can't make a decent cookie, store buy them or don't advertise to include one at all. My husband and I live in Oakland and we've eaten at almost every location in the East Bay a few times, but this one always gets it right. I think the staff is very nice and it's seating area is always clean. It's worth the nice drive to go here and to have a good experience. I got the Hot T with additions like extra Cheddar, Provolone, Pickles and Onions on a Sourdough Roll. It was one of the best sandwiches I have had! As someone who eats "real" food once a day and has to rely on Sandwiches or Pizza due to my busy schedule, I have had these from many of the locations in the broader SF Bay Area but I must say the quality and craft has not been this good for a long time now. This definitely beat the likes of Fat Maddies, Mendocino Farms or Ikes (which sad to say has dramatically deteriorated over the years - some times they have half baked blob of dough for bread :( ). What a disappointment. I should have just purchased my food at The Habit like I did for my girls. Occasionally I would purchase a sandwich ony lunch break many years ago in Reno. Their sandwiches were great so I always had that in the back of my mind. Plus, they would include a slice of pickle! Hence, their name right? Again on my sandwich kick here, I've been meaning to try Mr. Pickles for a while now but was a bit hesitant as it is a "chain" and didn't know what to expect. Well in short, it's your typical sandwich place a step above Subway with some soup and salad options but didn't particularly wow me and with other sandwich options around, I'll likely not be back any time soon. L O C A T I O N Off of Crow Canyon in the same plaza as Sprouts, Habit Grill, Jamba Juice, etc. It's closer to Jamba Juice if you're wondering where in the large plaza it's located. P A R K I N G Parking is horrible during peak eating times. It has a lot that's shared with a lot of other eateries plus Sprouts, so you're competing for a spot. I haven't had a problem finding a spot, but I know folks have circled a few times before. Just go a little further out and walk over. M E N U The menu can be found online which is nice, but overall you can get soups, salads, and sandwiches. I found it funny that you have to pay for your pickle spear, but there are pickle slices in the sandwich. There are a variety of combos you can get with your sandwich which is nice. I opted for the $2.99 chips and 16 oz fountain soda (sodas are within the Pepsi brand line). They had a variety of hot and cold sandwiches with some of your classics like BLAT, BLT, Club, Pastrami, Italian, etc. You can also choose to have half a sandwich. They have a variety of breads like dutch crutch roll, sourdough roll, wheat roll, gluten free wrap, sliced rye, sliced wheat, etc. Also options for cheeses include provolone, pepper jack, swiss, cheddar, cream cheese, etc. Sandwiches range from ~$7-9. You also get a free chocolate chip sandwich with your sandwich order. ~ The Italian ~ The Italian is your classic sandwich that contains a lot of meat (Italian Dry Salami, Thinly Sliced Pastrami, Black Forest Ham, Provolone, Italian Dressing). I also opted for "Everything" (Mustard, Mayo, Garlic Sauce, Pickles, Tomato, Red Onions, Lettuce, Pepperoncinis). The sourdough roll is quite bready, so if you don't like too much bread, this roll isn't for you. There was a good proportion of meat though it was concentrated in the middle versus the end so if you're eating middle out (*chuckles at Silicon Valley reference*) then you'll basically just be eating bread. I did appreciate "everything" and it was good with all the meat. Though be careful as there are red onions and a garlic sauce, so my breath was mighty kiss worthy if you know what I mean :) S E R V I C E It was a bit lack luster and I didn't particularly know what or how to order. They seemed quite busy with a few folks in front of me and finally one of them said "next!" I was waiting for my sandwich to be finished and the line grew almost out the door. Glad I came in before noon cause it would've taken forever to order and get my sandwich. A minimum of $3 for credit card charges. My company was hosting an event in the area this weekend and decided to order several sandwiches from Mr. Pickle's. We tried to call in but the phone was busy for over 30 minutes (we later found out that a customer was on hold for like 30minutes ... and when she finally realized it, she was just laughing historically! Also when we got there there was a disgruntled customer ahead of us who didn't want mayo on her child's sandwich but the staff insisted that the lady would need to pay again to make a new sandwich and the kid was SOOO disappointed that they had to eat off bread with scraped off mayo. We were on a time crunch to get food and without many other options in the area we opted to go to the store. From there the service was just average. We got our food (about 9 sandwiches) and some of the side orders were missing. The sandwich itself (I had the Italian) was pretty good, decent flavor and the texture of the Dutch Crunch bread was tasty.
