Tiramisu latte
Lorena A.

Love Mr. Rivers Coffee! So far I've tried the tiramisu latte: 10/10, the early grey matcha latte, and the matcha coco cloud (also 10/10)! Love the calming vibe of the cafe and the baristas are super friendly. A hidden gem and new favorite here on the West Side.

Loved everything about this place! The croissants are delicious (especially loved the ham and cheese, prosciutto, and chocolate). They're dog friendly. The woman working there was also super nice! It was homey.

Cream Top Vietnamese coffee Saigon Latte

Used to be Le Frenchie and I remembered having brunch once there. Some of the brunch menu might still look similar but the drinks were certainly changed now that they featured Vietnamese coffee as their signature. The attendants were so welcoming even the first time we stepped into the door. The indoor section venue was bit too warm but the outdoor seats upfront could always be an alternative. We stopped by for coffee, getting their Saigon coffee and Cream Top Vietnamese Coffee. The Saigon one served great Vietnamese coffee but tad milky for our preference so next time we'd certainly go for just the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk given Saigon one did add extra milk. The Cream Top got me sold as the airy salty cream couldn't be a better pair to the sweet and bold Vietnamese coffee. Most importantly, size for prize was a win here!

Ca phe muoi

Stopped by for a quick afternoon pick-me-up just before closing. Ordered the ca phe muoi, which was rich, bitter, salty, and sweet all at the same time; it kind of tasted like a liquified tiramisu (in a good way)! Strong caffeine kick to perk me up, too. There's plenty of parking on the upper level of the plaza, as well as street parking in the neighborhood. Worth a go!

Hot oat milk rose latte

Mr. Rivers just opened on February 7th, and they took over what was previously the French place. Great news, they upgraded their coffee program, and now carry Amigo coffee roasters. They kept the same pastries & some of the same breakfast menu items for Wednesday through Sunday from 8am-3pm. They have plenty of parking, both free parking in the lot directly above the building with the ramp access on Colonial Avenue. If that is full, there is also plenty of metered street barking right out front. Since it was still Valentine's Day weekend, I went with their romantic oat milk rose latte and it was delicious. I did less sweet, and I enjoyed the rose syrup as well as the dried rose petals on top. They make the rose syrup themselves but they'll probably keep it for February or longer if it stays popular. They are dog-friendly, with plenty of outdoor seating options and a fresh water bowl. The staff was very helpful with deciding what would be the best thing to order, and I will definitely be back to try their breakfast menu soon.

I've been to Mr Rivers several times since they opened and I'm happy to have a new spot near home that I love. The west side has been lacking a Vietnamese coffee shop for way too long. Mr Rivers has taken over the old location of Frenchie cafe, they still have the old Frenchie sign on the canopy. It's located right across the street from Menotti's Culver City, and has ample street parking. Each time I've been here, I've interacted with welcoming and friendly staff. The drinks are top-tier, and they have regular espresso drinks in addition to traditional Vietnamese coffees with condensed milk, and matcha. I haven't tried any of their food so far, but I sampled some of their ube basque cheesecake over the weekend and it was divine- I'll definitely be back for this sometime. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available here, but the cafe is small. Would highly recommend trying this new coffeeshop.

Delicious unique flavors. Earl gray matcha and coconut Vietnamese coffee were incredible. Small and cozy inside area. Good service.

Cloud matcha

Stopped by on a whim and was pleasantly surprised, such a cute, cozy spot that's easy to miss from the outside. Service was decent; not the most informative, but I appreciated the patience while I decided. The only downside was the lack of sugar free syrup options. I ordered the cloud matcha and enjoyed it overall, solid 7/10.

I went to the grand opening of this lovely Vietnamese cafe! I'm happy that there are a lot more Vietnamese cafes expanding in LA because they are so underrated. Service was still fast even though there was a long line. Great quality Vietnamese coffee, and a good selection of pastries to pair with your drink :)

Cà phê muối
Emma P.

I walked into Mr. Rivers' Coffee mid-morning on a Thursday, when it wasn't busy, and the atmosphere in the shop was light and airy, streaked with natural light shining through the windows. Small but mighty, there's just the right amount of seating for the small space, featuring both indoor and outdoor tables. I asked the friendly barista for help choosing between the prosciutto / gruyere croissant and the tomato / fennel danish, and was grateful for the recommendation of the prosciutto / gruyere croissant. It was flaky and flavorful and hearty enough to be fulfilling. The cà phê muối is a delicious salted coffee that has the right blend of bitter and a hint of sweet. Great amount of caffeine that kept me alert throughout the morning.

Stopped by for lunch the other day and was pleased with the experience…read more Joliet is located across the street from Urban Plates within the food court with Jenni's ice cream. I thought it was a full sit-down restaurant, but it's more like a cafe you can walk up and order from, and either sit at their bar area or outside at any of the tables. Regardless, service was pleasant enough. I got a chicken Caesar wrap and a Sakura matcha, and both were delicious. I loved the floral flavor of the Sakura matcha, and the wrap was fresh and flavorful. This is a great spot to grab a quick bite and coffee from, and I would totally come back if I'm in the area.

As I was working through my message, I had the idea to include a visual illustration--a charcuterie setup to represent the abundant life Jesus offers. Right away, I thought of Alex and Olivia at Joliet Cafe. I've enjoyed Joliet Cafe for years-- whether I've come by in the day to get delicious coffee, or enjoyed the restaurant on a romantic night out with the wife - the food is always outstanding. Alex is truly a masterful chef! So just a couple of weeks before Easter, I reached out with this idea. Not only was he open to it, but he took the time to understand the vision and bring it to life. On the day of, Alex arrived early and prepared a beautiful, abundant "feast" that fit the message perfectly. It didn't just look incredible--it tasted amazing. After the service, we placed the charcuterie next to our lunch table, and it was gone quickly! So many people commented on how delicious and well-presented everything was. I share all this to say: Alex's professionalism, creativity, skill, and flexibility make him an incredible choice for charcuterie boards, catering, or any culinary service. He truly delivers--and you will not be disappointed. Thank you again for helping make Easter such a meaningful and special day!

Came here solo after a recent Yelp Elite event (another shout out to Sarah) armed with a cute "two…read morefree tacos & a drink" card given by the amazing staff from Home State at that particular event. Therefore, I have to come and take advantage right? Well, I was able to order both tacos keto style (Dallas Fort Worth variety) and have their contents put in these cute cups. Needless to say they were delicious as was the fresh coffee. The CSA (CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL STAR) of this experience was none other than Erik-pictured. What a super nice guy! Erik was super humble, and yet calm cool and collective-while managing the usual door traffic. I guess where I'm going with this is I certainly couldn't do it! Thanks Erik, your a credit to the Home State brand.

HomeState has become my go-to breakfast spot in the Playa Vista/Westchester area. This isn't your…read moretraditional taco stand - it's definitely a more modern, hipster take on Texas-style breakfast tacos. But they execute it pretty well. One of my favorite morning routines is grabbing a coffee from Blue Bottle next door, then settling in at HomeState with my two favorite breakfast tacos: the Guadalupe and Don't Mess with Texas. Guadalupe - 4/5. I always order this on a corn tortilla. It comes with eggs, chorizo, and cheese, and the ingredients are decent. The portion is generous, with plenty of fluffy eggs that are cooked just right - not overdone or runny. The cheese melts nicely into the eggs, creating a good texture. The chorizo is decent, though it's the weakest component of an otherwise excellent taco. Also, I realized that the portion of chorizo has shrunk over the years. Don't Mess with Texas - 4/5. I'm generally not a fan of refried pinto beans, but this taco completely won me over. The combination of beans, bacon, potatoes, and cheese works surprisingly well, especially with the salsa verde. The flavors come together beautifully, making this one of the more satisfying breakfast tacos on the menu. I've tried a few of their other breakfast tacos, and they're all good. Still, I always find myself coming back to these two. HomeState offers two house salsas roja and verde, both with a brighter, more acidic profile than what you'd typically find at a taco shop. Usually that would be a bit problematic for regular tacos, but that acidity pairs well with the rich breakfast tacos. My only complaint is that I wish they packed more heat. Hot sauces are available, but I'd rather the house salsas bring the spice on their own. Even so, they're flavorful and complement the tacos well. Overall, I like my Blue Bottle coffee + 2 breakfast tacos combination, and will continue eating here.
