As the Pastor of Venice Free Methodist Church in Del Rey (right next to Playa Vista), we were preparing for Easter with the theme "Come to the Table"--centered on the invitation of Jesus in Bible (Revelation 3:20), where He welcomes all to dine with Him. As I was working through my message, I had the idea to include a visual illustration--a charcuterie setup to represent the abundant life Jesus offers. Right away, I thought of Alex and Olivia at Joliet Cafe. I've enjoyed Joliet Cafe for years-- whether I've come by in the day to get delicious coffee, or enjoyed the restaurant on a romantic night out with the wife - the food is always outstanding. Alex is truly a masterful chef! So just a couple of weeks before Easter, I reached out with this idea. Not only was he open to it, but he took the time to understand the vision and bring it to life. On the day of, Alex arrived early and prepared a beautiful, abundant "feast" that fit the message perfectly. It didn't just look incredible--it tasted amazing. After the service, we placed the charcuterie next to our lunch table, and it was gone quickly! So many people commented on how delicious and well-presented everything was. This restaurant in located inside an outdoor market available to patrons. I thought it was its own building but it was an area to visit while walking past. There is no table waiting, you walk up to the cashier and place your order. You get a number and grab a seat. We ordered sandwiches and bags of chips. The sandwiches are pre-made in a deli area and they take it out add in your ingredients and through it in the grill for a panini. After 5pm, they do have a sit down area behind the deli where you can eat the late night menu and listen to music. We came earlier in the day, so it was just deli sandwiches, chips and a glass of mimosa. If I were out shopping, I would stop by and grab a sandwich but Id prefer to see what the live music and late night menu experience is about. I will go back one day! read more

Stopped by for lunch the other day and was pleased with the experience. Joliet is located across the street from Urban Plates within the food court with Jenni's ice cream. I thought it was a full sit-down restaurant, but it's more like a cafe you can walk up and order from, and either sit at their bar area or outside at any of the tables. Regardless, service was pleasant enough. I got a chicken Caesar wrap and a Sakura matcha, and both were delicious. I loved the floral flavor of the Sakura matcha, and the wrap was fresh and flavorful. This is a great spot to grab a quick bite and coffee from, and I would totally come back if I'm in the area. read more

Super cute place!! Hubby and I were in the area and decided to grab a bevi. I loved the vibe and the mysterious back room area. It was all decorated for Halloween with super cute themed drinks. I'm updating my review for this place due to a very poor customer service experience I had. It was several months back when I came in on my way to work to order a latte, most likely the Spanish Latte because that's what I always got. There was only one guy working (he's taken my order in the past) and he was preparing sandwiches. I stood at the counter for a few minutes without being acknowledged even though he glanced at me once. When he finally acknowledged me he said, "We're not open yet." I asked what time they open and he said 8:00. I told him it was 8:05. He looked at the sandwiches he was preparing, then frustrated, he looked at me with the expression that he was too busy to officially open the store and take my order. It was now 8:07. The employee literally let me walk away not taking my order and saying nothing. He spotted me walking by weeks later and had the look of guilt but too much pride (or perhaps prejudice) to apologize for the incident. I didn't update my review sooner because I was hoping I'd get over what happened and return. I liked this place and stopping by for coffee was convenient given I live "in the neighborhood". But the reality is that the experience kind of stung and left me with no desire to return. Even though I'm at The Free Market where Joliet is located daily, I haven't been back and I don't feel the experience warrants my previous 5 Star review. Do better, and be mindful to treat ALL of your customers with kindness. read more

Hosted a work happy hour here and loved every bit of the experience! Drinks were great staff was amazing, and the space is so cute. It's hard to find a good place in Playa Vista for a happy hour for drinks so I'll definitely be back. They also have a event space next door! read more

This is hands down one of my favorite local spots. The ambiance is so cool. The vibes are laid back maximalism decor with a twist of funky and eclectic. It makes me feel like i'm back in the 70's at a speakeasy. its just fabulous. The service is good and the food is delicious. One of the best Whiskey sours in town in my opinion, and thats my signature drink. I love the the energy and vibes of this place. About 15 of us millennials rolled into Joliet for a lovely Saturday brunch. Super cute setup. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. There's seating around the counter or inside the tiki bar area. Plus, lots of parking in the garage across the street. Considering majority of the food is prepared in advance (including the huge burritos), it was surprisingly delicious! I added a side of avocado to my burrito, highly recommend. My husband and I came here for breakfast on 3/7 and unfortunately had a really disappointing experience. I ordered a decaf latte because I'm currently in a high-risk pregnancy and need to avoid caffeine. After drinking most of it I experienced strong caffeine symptoms and believe it was made with regular espresso instead of decaf. For customers who rely on decaf for medical reasons, this is a SERIOUS MISTAKE. There was also a hair in my breakfast burrito, and the burrito itself wasn't great, especially for the $16 price. Overall this visit was very disappointing and not what we expected from a neighborhood spot. We will not be returning. read more

I have been to the Joliet Coffee bar inside the FreeMarket a few times. The coffee is wonderful... and the pasties I've tried have been very french... excellent... This last visit, I tried one of the Pastrami sandwiches. It was excellent. I also had the Spanish Latte... not too sweet, focus was on the espresso, and flavors were spot on. The coolest part is its really 3 different venues... open til 2pm, the coffee bar is slinging mad espressos and tasty sandwiches and patries... at 5pm... the sorta speakeasy restaurant and bar opens up... and outside, they have a little trailer, that is like a pop up wine, coffee and tea bar with patio seating... I definitely recommend Joliet for great coffee and food. I haven't not tried a cocktail yet, but thats next on my list of things to do. read more

Adorable little cafe. Love the teal decor. I'm told the caffeinated drinks are lovely, and I have confirmed that the sandwiches are nice. The thick and meaty Pastrami sandwich is like a smokier, thicker beef-bacon, and the Fig Serrano special is full of salty Spanish ham and gorgeous slices of fig. The sandwiches run on the smaller side but they are filling and rich. There are pastries in the case as well if you're just looking for a croissant to go with your coffee. The bartender claimed to be the owner and manager and still says he is unable to remove the overly intoxicated men that visible harassing and grabbing women. They also decided to argue with me when I returned to advise them that the man was still in the establishment, still harassing women. They ran out of meatballs by 8pm Artichoke dip and the bread (extra crunchy bordering on hard lol) that came with it was great but only about 4 pieces of bread but was no problem to order more The service did get slow and i saw a group of 3 leave ... Whiskey Sour was delicious! Trout was very flavorful with the bell peepers and arugula mixed in.
