    Phoenix oolong, watery
    Melissa L.

Wanted to stop somewhere for boba while we were near Marina. I can confidently say this is one of the worst bobas I have had in LA :( The store itself is new and didn't have a sign outside. The inside is clean with two benches. You order at a kiosk and wait while your number is called. They have a sign that says please allow 5 minutes so their teas can be steeped and it took some time to get their tea. I ordered the phoenix oolong and it was terrible. The tea was super sweet but super watery at the same time. There was no real tea flavor and it even looked watery. It had a very strong taste of lychee. Would not recommend. The boba was very sweet thought and soft. Think they need to work on the actual flavor of their tea unfortunately.

A great grab-and-go spot in The Runway. This is the sister store to Dan Modern Chinese, located just a stone's throw away in The Runway. While Dan's focuses on modern Chinese dishes, this spot started out centered on boba, smoothies, and beverages. The space is super small, built for takeout only. What's smart is that they've added some of Dan's small appetizer plates, like dumplings and noodles, so you can grab a quick bite and head to the park with your family. Super convenient for the area. The smoothies are really solid in my opinion, definitely worth coming back for. I'm still on the fence with boba, but there's enough variety on the menu to keep me returning.

Small operation, 3 two seater benches inside, 2 self service kiosks, and 2 staff working the operations. Not sure on the food part though (didn't try)! Ambiance is their playlists (cool songs) with cream and light green walls. Come try it if you're craving boba in the area!

This is what it looked like at the bottom AFTER I tried to mix it up when it was full!

Worst matcha latte I've ever had. I took a sip and was surprised to feel chunks in it and it was room temp. I picked it up when the app said it would be ready so it should have been hot. I opened the lid and there were clumps of matcha as if it was not whisked properly. There were also small white flecks floating in it which I think is just from a poor choice of oat milk. I didn't order any toppings so it should have been smooth. Waste of $9.

FRESH INGREDIENTS! Hidden gem, right next to Starbucks. I was surprised by my amazing server from Dan Modern Chinese, which is right at the corner. She recommended the brew teas and the passion fruit was sooo good! I was intrigued by the RASPBERRY MATCHA. Which is made with real puree!

One of the worst boba spots I've ever had - you can just taste it in the quality that it's not as good or flavorful. Tasted so watered down

Luckily the barista was nice enough to make our drinks x2 because we missed the sign above the kiosk saying "No Large cups". It was our mistakes for missing the note, but who runs a business and runs out of cups? The second time we passed by like ooo okay there's no sign they have cups, we were told no drinks except green tea. The way it looked was things were cleaned up ahead of time and nothing was able to be made and the mall closed in like an hour. Just shut the whole day down then, the way we were yelled at when we walked up instead of just saying "hey we apologize we only have green tea available" but no it was "We only have green tea." as she was on her phone like we interrupted her. The third and last time we will ever interact with this business was through UberEats. The store decided to cancel on their end because they ran out of aloe vera. Make that make sense. Not only were we not contacted, just make the drinks without aloe vera and be done, nope they decide let's just cancel the whole order, that didn't show up on my end. So you're telling me to cancel so I can get charged? Ha, you think I'm stupid? Absolutely not. If they supposedly canceled my order I should see that on my end, nope they claimed it was UberEats' fault. Huh? My order is still active on my side. Two poor drivers who were super sweet had to deal with them. Disgusting. Honestly just shut the whole place down. Chagee opened up and there's a new boba spot coming soon. I'll visit them. Don't waste your money here. Awful business practice. Terrible way to run a business. Fake syrup flavors anyway.

Wonder Cha Tea Place provides both excellent customer service and delicious milk tea and specialty coffee drinks. We enjoyed our visit at Wonder Cha Tea Place as it's a really cool Anime inspired cafe. It's actually one of the best ones we've seen in LA. When you look at the art on the wall it basically tells a story. So neat! Inside, there are tables and chairs available for seating. This cafe is very nice and welcoming. The staff is also very sweet and welcoming as they greeted us as soon as we walked in. During our visit we ordered the Tiramisu Duo Latte, 3 Ube Plus One and the Grape Fruit Shaped Ice Cream. We loved the Ube Plus One as it wasn't too sweet and you can still taste the espresso with a hint of ube. The Tiramisu Duo was also on point. It tasted like the tiramisu dessert yet with a hint of espresso. Our child enjoyed the Grape Fruit Shaped Ice Cream. Our child said it was yummy. Every time I visit, I always make sure to visit once, if not twice. Super affordable boba, cute cafe with lots of cute merch, AND they have food and snacks. How can you beat that? When we were in the area looking for boba, I saw that there was a Ume Tea nearby (there's only 2 in SoCal), so my friend and I decided to stop by after our visit to the Milpitas location. There's a decent amount of parking in the plaza, but it can get quite busy given the area and the amount of businesses, but you can always do street parking and walk over. It was quite busy for a Sunday afternoon as there were lots of pick up orders and others ordering form the kiosks (they have 3 if you count the tablet on the counter) and waiting for their orders. It's a narrower location with no public restrooms (at least if there was, it'd be behind the employees only door, but I didn't ask). There's some merch on the wall, but not much of it sadly and 1 small statue for photo ops. There's seating, but since the shop is narrow, they're more like benches with small tables. Here is where, I think my bias comes out a bit, the merch here was some left over collaboration merch and some bags and cups I think, but NorCal had several different kinds of plushies, a perfume block, other air fresheners, stickers, plushies, etc. They NorCal locations also had way more for their food/snack menu like fried baby octopus (my favorite), bento boxes and much more (also in terms of how many different types of drinks that they have). It might be because NorCal is the California originator or because each franchise owner has different choices in what they have, but it wasn't as mind blowing. I get it though with raising costs and the limitations of space that they have. I got a passionfruit mango green tea with lychee jelly, 50% sweet (I'd go lower next time since it was pretty sweet) and less ice. Pretty refreshing for a hot summer day. Friend got a purple sticky rice milk tea, 70% sweet. Not bad, and didn't skimp out on the purple rice. Flavor is middle level milk tea. Not bad, hits the spot if you need it, but not mind blowing. I don't think I'll go out of my way to go to this location again, but I might try the other one. My friend and I were having a conversation about this, but maybe Ume Tea didn't enter the 626 BOBA WARS as with how limited they are compared to NorCal, the competition would be much too fierce, but it's so obvious how much the community and locals love them here.

The line can be insane, but we somehow lucked out and there was no wait on a Saturday ~6 PM. This was my first time at this location, and while it was fun being in the middle of Beverly Hills, the drinks and service weren't what I expected. The staff was fairly impatient (despite us being the only customers in the store) and seemed annoyed to provide recommendations to my family who had never tried HeyTea before. We got 5 drinks: triple matcha, brown sugar bobo, king jasmine guava, coconut mango boom, cloud jasmine. All but the king jasmine guava were either bland or extremely salty. The king jasmine guava was easily the best drink we got, but it had mostly a guava taste and very little jasmine. I've never had this experience before at the other locations, so I want to assume they were just having a really off day... All that said, it's Beverly Hills. Even the most popular places can be hit or miss depending on the day. While I was disappointed in this visit, I wouldn't mind giving it another try if I had a craving and was in the area. There's a few stools to sit on, but this is mostly a grab and go spot. Note on parking: there's some street parking in front of the store, but it can be tough to find an empty spot. There's a couple paid garages/lots on the block, and we were able to get free parking since we were there after 6 PM.
