However, the job was estimated ~$3000 and to be done in one day, but it did not finish in the same day and added ~$1500 to the price. This is the kind of review I love to write. The spout on our bathtub broke off. Seems that the incompetent plumber who installed it 30 years ago used an iron nipple to attach the spout to the wall. Over the years, it just kept rusting away inside the wall until March 16 when it finally broke. I talked to Starr at Mr. Rooter on that day and was impressed with her helpfulness and charm. She scheduled a service call for two days later. This was not an urgent fix so no great hurry. Hugo and Adam arrived right on time and were polite, professional and did a great job of cutting into sheetrock in the room behind the bathroom, cutting the pipe, cutting the wood blocking that the pipe was attached to, removing the copper fitting, extracting the rusted stub from the elbow, soldering the pipe back together, and cleaning up. All in about 1.5 hours. I spent two hours meticulously putting the sheetrock pieces back in place. Hugo offered to do it but I had the time so I elected to do it. And, he offered to come back and install a new spout once we got one. Not necessary as that is very easy to do. To show what great customer service Mr. Rooter practices, we were overcharged by a couple of hundred dollars due to an erroneous entry on Hugo's iPad. I talked to Michelle, the owner of the Watsonville Mr. Rooter (I guess she is Mrs. Rooter) and had a very nice conversation about their customer service practices and how important their customers are to them. She noticed that we were overcharged and immediately put through a credit for the overcharge and apologized profusely. In July they came out to provide a quote for our water heater. Our elderly neighbor had recommended them. They quoted us $2500 to replace and haul away our old water heater. Based on what we knew it should cost ($1200-1600) for a 1600 sq ft house we asked what it would cost if we went and bought the water heater ourselves and they did the rest. The quote went down to $1068. So basically they planned to charge us $1500 just for the water heater alone! I completely understand marking up costs, but this was way too much. Pretty disappointed and pretty surprised they have such high ratings considering. We ended up getting our water heater replaced by Henry's Plumbing for $1450. They gave us that quote without knowing we'd gotten a quote elsewhere. Very fair, honest, professional and efficient. Highly recommend them. read more

I am letting everyone know of our experience with Mr. Rooter. They had been out three times for the same issue with a Niagara low flow toilet back up. We were charged $1,000 to rooter the toilet and bath line. As we now know, this was not needed. They rootered the out side line, which had no issues. The third visit, the technician left the original wax ring gasket installed and layed another on top, causing the toilet to sit higher than normal. Then the Supervisor said that was normal and we needed to chalk the toilet. They tried to tighten the toilet down, but they broke the sewer flange. After the repair, the toilet was still higher than normal. I just replaced the toilet to find out there were two gaskets stacked one on top of the another. So, I am saying I would stay clear of this company if they need to pull your toilet! read more

When our water supply failed, we were told that we'd need a new pressure tank and $7k for one person's labor for one day to fix it. Happily a neighbor came around shortly afterwards, and fixed it in about two hours work. Parts needed one short bit of PVC pipe, which had cracked in the earthquake. The entire team of Mr. Rooter worked together effectively and professionally. They came this time to see why my main sewer line was clogged up. Since my clean out wasn't outside of the house (it's under the walkspace) the no-cost guarantee wasn't applied. But instead of charging me the whole $400+ charge for a two man team, they dropped it to $75. Now, that was great! But after they arrived, they found a bigger problem, which involved digging up the line (it's almost 60 years old) to find the stoppage. After fixing that one, the camera found yet another break in the line. Each time, they were methodical and professional. They were always communicative and told me what was going on.
