This Robson Square food truck has delicious wraps! We tried both the chicken and lamb shawarma wraps, and both were packed with flavor! We liked our first visit here so much, we came again later in the day! (Unfortunately, the falafel was just okay - not impressive like the meats, at least not the falafel standalone. Pita was crisp from the grill and not too thick and bready so I could better enjoy the meat and vegetables inside. This place is A-OK. Its quite overrated. I had the Chicken Shawarma Wrap. Its not an easy eat, it can get quite messy for a quick bite lunch wrap you can eat standing. The taste was good, but it certainly isn't the most delicious or flavorful shawarma I've had. Folks say their Falafel is good, but I'm more of a meat guy and this isn't for me. Now listen here. I have tried many, many, MANY shawarma places in Canada since moving here 5 years ago, and I have to give it up to these guys - they are hands down THE BEST. Why are they the best, you ask? Two words: French fries. True, authentic Shawarma (NOT Donairs) have the soggy fries stuffed in the middle of the wrap. You'd be hard pressed not to find a shawarma place that doesn't do that in the Middle East. The chicken is fresh and not burnt like its been sitting there for too long. They don't stuff it with greens unnecessarily, they don't put tabbouleh in it to cover up the taste of bad food. It's made by Arabs, the Arabic way and you are missing out if you don't get yourself downtown to try it. This Shawarma truck is the closest thing I have ever tasted to food from my hometown of Dubai. Just to get it out of the way, this is a good truck, and it was FANTASTIC! I had the chicken pita with the spicy sauce and onions (I think, the guy talked very fast but it smelled so good I went for anything he offered). A quick look in the window and the salads and pita toppings all looked really fresh, so we stopped in to try it out. The chicken shawarma pita wrap included a very nice fresh tabouleh, a huge amount of chicken from the spit, garlic sauce, a very nice hummus, pickled beets, tahini, and hot peppers. A nice pita sandwich overall. I also got to try the falafel platter which had a very generous portion of salad (which had a nice hint of mint in the dressing), 4 large falafel (the long type, not round), hummus, pressed yogurt, and some pita. I had dinner at Mr.Shawarma while visiting a friend in Kits. I went around 7.30pm and was pleased to see it was busy and processing orders quickly. Always a good sign! The guys at the counter were friendly and efficient - fun to watch them working. I ordered the Beef plate, which came with rice, potatoes, hummus, two pitas, salad, garlic sauce and of course, the beef. Easily two servings of delicious, piping-hot food. Fresh falafel! Colour me happy! It's so hard to find places that actually make their falafel fresh, as most places seem to make it four days early and then nuke it for you when you order it, which always leaves it tasting a bit dry and hard. Not Mr.Shawarma! I was pleasantly surprised when I bit into my falafel and hit the crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside falafels in my pita. This is only the second place in the city I have found who deep fries your falafel while you wait, and I have eaten a lot of falafel. The staff were pretty friendly, and I was able to pay with my debit card (thank goodness they had signage for that other wise I would have just walked on by). My falafel was about $5.50 altogether, and I didn't get a drink or anything cuz I was just heading back to work... very slowly.... My only complaint was that it could have used a bit more of the garlic sauce, but that's probably just me being picky, I love garlic, and I love the sauce (if you know what I'm saaaaayen? *wink wink*) Also, if you're in a rush, you might want to skip this, since they are making everything fresh to order it does take a little while, but if you're willing to wait, I promise it will be worth it! read more

I love the Robson location. It is my favorite go to place for take-away lunches in Vancouver downtown. Food selection is great: wraps, bowls, platters, boxes and the prices are very reasonable compared to the other food trucks. Like everyone else seems to have mentioned, the flavor is lacking. It seems like they're playing it safe. As my friends Indo-Canadian mother once told me when I was visiting for supper "Don't worry, I only made this 'white-people' spicy." I can handle a lot of flavor and a lot of spice, garlic is universally used, so why skimp on THAT Mr. Shawarma, why? This sounds harsh but it's true: I've made better hummus in my Magic Bullet.... at 2 am.... drunk. I wouldn't say it if it weren't true. I had to put so much pepper in the lentil soup, and thought to myself "with a little bit of coriander, cumin and cayenne, this would be amazing!". I was thinking of ways that I could better a soup that I payed good money for... Over all my experience was disappointing. Will I find myself eating here again? If I'm in the neighborhood, and it's the most convenient option I probably would go back. But if the question was, would I go back just for the food? No. No I would not. read more

Being from the GTA I am used to eating some great shawarma but if I'm being honest the lower mainland shawarma places definitely were not up to my standards except for Mr Shawarma! This place honestly had a very unique taste to it I'm not sure what it was (maybe a unique sauce?) My favourite was the steak shawarma I felt that the food would just melt in my mouth it tasted so amazing and fresh. Along with the great food the service was awesome the gentlemen at the cash would always crack a joke or two which was nice and showed how friendly he was. The only drawbacks to this place were that the wraps were a bit too small and pricey considering the size, it would take two wraps to fill my stomach but nonetheless this truck is what made Burrard Station my favourite Skytrain stop. read more

I happened on this place while wandering all over Vancouver on foot. I thought it looked good but as I didn't live in Vancouver I didn't know of their reputation with Vancouverites. Much like a latte in a coffee shop, I use falafel wraps as my determination for the quality of a place. Mr. Shawarma went above and beyond. I love wraps that have potatoes in them as well as tahini and/or hummus. So many falafel wraps have dried, chewy balls of falafel with salad and not much else. Not here. These falafels were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and surrounded by all the delicious, drizzly additions that I love. This doesn't even cover that the guy taking orders and serving called everyone "my friend" and that the guy making food had a shirt saying "Spread Hummus, Not Hate". I was in Vancouver for 5 days and ate there for 4 of them. My only regret is I couldn't make it there all 5, but I'll be back! read more

A good place to stop by for a quick bite to eat. $5.99 for a chicken shawarma, with halal chicken meat. The chicken was pre-removed from the spinning shawarma meat thing, so it was cold. we had to ask them to heat up the shawarma , other than that it was pretty good. We love Mr. Shawarma! Right now they have a great special on where you can get two shawarma pita wraps for $9.99! That's $11.20 for a meal for two, how can you beat that? Their shawarma's are generously filled too and they don't skimp out on anything - red cabbage, tabouleh, greek type salad (no feta though), creamy hummus, banana peppers, onions, hot chilis, olives, lettuce and of course the grilled chicken which is really flavourful and tender! Top that off with the tahini and some hot sauce, so awesome! The decor is.... minimalist, but who cares if they can serve great food at those prices! We usually go for the takeout option and the only problem with that is that the pita can get a bit soggy by the time you bring it home. So here's a tip... last time I asked if they could put the fillings in a separate container. The guy at the counter was a bit confused so he asked his manager (maybe the owner?) who was super friendly and said that next time we could just order it as the chicken salad and it would be all the same ingredients as the shawarma! My wife and I spotted this food truck nearby our hotel and pretty much immediately decided to Yelp it. After walking a bit my wife got their falafel pita. It was actually really good and my wife honestly loved it! And this is amazing because my wife isn't a big fan of falafels and yet she really really liked it, even stated that "this is the best falafel pita I've ever had!" After walking around downtown Vancouver for a day, while my wife and sister-in-law went on a binge clothes shopping extravaganza, I was famished. Needless to say, I was so hungry that I would have eaten a half baked donut, that was laying on the side of the road, but I digress. I stumbled upon a bright yellow truck called Mr. Shawarma. Being from the states, I had no clue what a shawarma was. I've had falafel before, and recognized the picture on their menu, so I ordered one. Needless to say it was so delicious that I gambled on ordering the shawarma. It was also delicious. I've dappled in falafel before, eating at the world famous Rainbow Falafel in NYC, but I am happy to say thY Mr. Shawarma Falafel is the superior product. I asked for spicy and I got it. The falafel itself was crispy and delightful, and the sauce was too die for. Which is why I went back for seconds, and explored the shawarma realm. The chicken shawarma was grilled to perfection, the veggies were fresh and tasty, and again the sauce was exemplary. Not to mention the warm and inviting staff. If I am ever back in Vancouver, I will absolutely stop back in to the yellow Mr. Shawarma truck. Except next time I will other items on the menu. read more

Not sure what it is about them (maybe something in the baclava?), but they have the best customer service and friendliest staff I've encountered in the city! All of the staff are so friendly and helpful, which is a refreshing change to the usual cold, bored, dismissive staff I've sadly gotten used to here in Vancouver. I had a problem with a credit card charge at one point, which can always be stressful, but they were so concerned about getting it resolved, that it put me at ease. I love their shawarmas too. I skip the tabouleh since I don't like parsley, and double up on the cabbage. Add chicken, garlic sauce and hummus and I'm a happy camper! Plus, it's the only affordable restaurant I've found on 4th ave. Highly recommended - and if you go be sure to pick up some of their baclava baked in house! read more

Ordered a chicken wrap for a quick lunch. Wait time was about 5-8 minutes, surprisingly long for food truck + shawarma. Was also surprised when it didn't come with fries because the pic on the truck had fries in it. That said, the wrap itself was pretty good and packed with flavour (arguably too salty, but would've been great with rice on the side), albeit on the small side. Costed $7(?) so it's just alright on the value scale, but I went in hungry and felt satisfied after eating so it's not bad. Location is great, just beside the library on Robson street. Overall, I was happy with trying out Mr Shawarma for the first time. I wouldn't rule it out during shawarma cravings (as I would other places in Vancouver), but it wouldn't be my go to spot either. read more

I grab dinner from them 2-3 times a week depending on work and how lazy I am. It's a good deal on the way home, with several locations smack dab in the middle of downtown, decent hours and reasonable prices. And I haven't even mentioned the portion of the food.. typically I can't finish in one sitting and I have the rest the next day. The quality of food is also decent, definitely flavourful and fresh. The only thing is that there is a lot of sodium in this meal, which kind of overpowers everything. The pickled veg is particularly overpowering for me.
