I used to go here all the time back when Song was the head chef. Came back today because I was in the area, and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. First of all, before placing the order, their waitresses made sure to reiterate the rules of All- you- can- eat several times. Their rolls were huge and overly deep fried. When we finished, we left the huge ends of deep fried rolls on the plate. The waitress then explained that with new ownership, they now had to charge for ANY unfinished portion of the rolls. Worst sushi AYCE places I have ever been to. We got there at 8:30pm. On their board it says your whole party must be seated by 9pm. fine. We were. When we filled out our paper they told us it is last call. Well how do I know how much I am going to eat? I don't. We order probably too much food. The appetizers came out, tempera (kind of greasy), gyoza (fried not pan fried), green muscles (it was okay), adashi tofu (not bad), and salmon colar (delicious). Then our rolls started to come out. First with no rice. They were fine. Then our salmon nigiri came out and the first bite was disgusting. The rice felt mushy milky rice vinegary and the fish was slightly warm. We had told them that the rice tastes funny and the sushi chef told us that this was how all the rice is including the rolls. I really wished he had tasted this rice. Its not like rice is that hard to make. There was no texture of rice left in those pieces of sushi. They kindly (muttered something under their breaths) removed the rice and left the salmon pieces, but after tasting that rice nothing tasted good. The salmon was also warm compared to the other fish we had in the beginning of our meal. This really made me wonder how fresh their fish is. We finished our food, unwillingly because they told us we would be charged. After we had told them how bad their rice was, they stopped serving us. They didn't refill our water or ask us if we needed anything. We weren't trying to be rude, but they need to taste their food before it is served. We paid our bill and left and as we were walking out one of the staff whispered "I am surprised they even left tip". I thought that was so RUDE of them. It isn't our fault their food tasted crappy. If you want better AYCE sushi go somewhere else. Oh and the price is cheaper elsewhere. This was way too expensive for what you get here. YUCK!! I met Song at Akasaka Sushi earlier this year and loved his amazing skills with Sushi so much that I followed him to his own restaurant in October and very quickly became a regular! My husband and I go eat at Mr. Sushi on a weekly basis, sometimes more. And judging by how this place is PACKED to full capacity and there's even a line waiting out the door to eat there, that should tell you how superb the quality and taste of his Sushi really is! I've never seen a sushi place with so many people wanting in like this before! Once you've been there a couple times, you don't even need to order! He remembers and appreciates his customers and remembers what you like to eat and just starts making it for you. There are some who say they receive 'bad service' and let me say, there is no such thing as bad service when it comes to Mr. Sushi. Song and his 4 Sushi Chefs take very good care of their customers, just come in with a lot of patience and understanding (in case there is a wait) and you'll have one of the best dining experiences ever and for a reasonable price! I have gone to other Sushi spots that charge $40+ for AYCE and drinks and the portions are not as generous and of great quality as Mr. Sushi. Leta face it, no restaurant is perfect ! But the restaurants that do their best to provide the best experience are the ones to return to. They arent going to be perfect, but they do a good job at providing the best. Never an attitude, never eye rolling or making you feel like your an inconvenience here. We love Mr. Sushi, always our first choice! The biggest thing I look for in a restaurant is the quality of service from the waiters. Then second is the service from the sushi bar! I have had great experiences here. One night it was super slammed and one of the sushi chefs felt overwhelmed but he still made it a point to do his absolute best with a great attitude. Last night we were there again and Musin was awesome ! He did amazing with handling the sushi bar, waiters and the table orders without making us feel uncomfortable or waiting. You would think after more than 2 years in business and after John Taffer gave this place money on Spike TV, they would atleast address their biggest complaint since day 1...THE SERVICE. Nope, still have a bunch of high school kids running this place like it's a Twilight convention. I did the all you can eat, and for my first order, they did not bring out the miso soup I ordered, so I let it slide, and would just add it onto my second order. My second order consisted of the following: miso soup and 1 order of mackerel...I know, I know a very complicated order from a classic man. Well, my miso soup came out but no mackerel. After more than 20 mins of waiting, I grabbed one of the staff members and told him my order never came and to just cancel it and give me the check. The check comes out, my party pays, and as soon as this happens guess what? Here comes an order of mackerel being brought to me, so I tell the Asian girl that I don't want it anymore. She then spews some venomous attitude of ratchetness and replies in a raised voice "WELL, did you tell anyone?!?!". As much as I wanted to drop some f****** commas on her right there and then, I told her "yeah ask your boy right there" (pointing to the high school kid I grabbed earlier). Top everything with stuff to make it look exciting and hide the bad quality fish underneath. The color of your fish indicates it must be farmed gmo fish. We fish for yellow tail, bluefin, etc, I have nevvver seen a natural fish with those colors. Ever. Ive waited with a party of 8 for 1.5 hours on a thursday to eat dinner. I have waited 45 min for a party of 3. I last went with some girlfriends when the space was still called Sushiya (I had been going there happily for a long time) and we had a somewhat bumpy experience. They were out of so much and the restaurant was empty. Still, the ramen was amazing and the chef sent over complimentary ahi ribs to try and make us happy. I understand now they must have just taken over the space. My husband and I decided to try them again and were not disappointed. I can't express how AWESOME this place is. Song, one of the two owners of the restaurant, and his other two chefs (June & Daniel), are straight out of a movie. This place shouldn't be called Mr Sushi, it should be called Ichiban Sushi. They are loud, fun, and involved with every group dining. These guys make some of the best sushi I've ever had. A good friend of mine told me about this place. When he told me that the best sushi I'll ever have is located in Santa Clarita, I totally doubted him. He took me there on his dime just to prove himself. I was blown away. He was absolutely right. It's some of the best sushi I've ever had. We've never ordered off the menu. The chefs give us whatever they want. They haven't ever served us anything that we weren't blown away by. I've taken several friends of mine to see Mr Sushi, and they've all had the same to say. We've been going back in groups since, and have't missed any of the other sushi spots we used to go to. Song will make sure your experience is outstanding, and just like me, you'll spread the word about how great the food is, and how much fun the staff makes your experience. I had the sashimi salad and the salmon teriyaki here for the first time with family, and I have to say, they have some of the best quality fish in the SCV area. The salmon melts in your mouth, and the serving size of the sashimi is pretty generous compared to other sushi restaurants. Everything tastes great too! Although the wait took a while (understandable since this place seems to have gotten much more popular lately), it was well worth it, and the servers were very kind and helpful. After, we are done, asked for a check. Then a waitress told us we have to finish everything because of all you can eat policy otherwise will charge extra....Ok...why she didn't tell us about that policy from the start?! There were no signs talking about the policy either....So i start digging in more and left REALLY small pieces of rice ball and still that wasn't good enough for them. I go to many buffet or all you can eat restaurant, and this place was just unbelievable how they play game with customers like that. I asked for a manger and came to us like he didn't know what is going on....Come on....Really!!!!??? i have to explain everything again!! Usually almost all restaurant doesn't charge if left some small portion of leftovers.....Well, this Mr.Sushi will play games with you when you left some one rice ball. What a crappy service! The service is amazing the ambiance is amazing (let's see how many times I can say amazing in this review shall we..) make sure you go for the all you can eat option which is amazingly prices at 25.95 for dinner!!!! HOLY AMAZBALLZ!! If you're going for dinner make sure you get there as soon as they open so you can be seated at the bar so you can personally order from the sushi chefs and you won't have to wait for the waitstaff and if your too late the wait takes forever!!!! I expected a great new hot spot for sushi in the SCV. And at first, it was just that. Great food and service, top notch all the way. I was going there about once a week! But the last couple times, it seems the service has been declining. The food for the most part was ok.. But I've agreed with a lot of reviews, it seems not everyone in the restaurant gets the same service. You get almost ignored for a while if you don't speak up especially at the bar. I think the management of that place needs to pick it back up to when they first opened. This was my first time here, so I havent tried everything but the shoyu ramen was the worst ramen I've ever had. My gf got the miso it also wasn't very good noodles were to soft no flavor. I've been coming here for AYCE sushi every now and then for a while now. While their prices are cheaper than other places around, I would say that their sushi quality and service are bang average. My last visit here, I had to wait pretty long between each of my food items even though I ordered everything when from the start. Their servers were not very attentive to our table either. I've lived in Valencia all my life. 23 years. I've been to all the sushi places ranging from castaic to Lyons. This was my favorite place to go. Now that there is a NEW OWNER, it is no longer my favorite place. The Asian woman who is manager was quite disrespectful. All the familiar faces were nice as per usual, but she was ridiculous. She wanted me to pay extra for 5 individual pieces of sushi. I was satisfied, but she insisted that I eat it. She wouldn't bring me the bill until I finished it. It was ridiculous. I'm 23, ordered alcohol and everything. I'm not a high school kid that ordered excessive amount of food and didn't finish it. Felt like I was being SCOLDED BY MY MOM. I come here every week or every other week on the weekends. I was embarrassed because I took my friend who was out of town because it was my favorite place. After talking to the sushi man for (I kid you not 20min) she finally gave us the bill and let us pay. Was $6 of sushi really worth hounding me? I'm not happy because it's a place that we always go to, I always tip 20% but man... Very displeased. Not going there again. I'm going to drive the ten minutes and go to sushi661. We did all you can eat on Saturday at 2:30pm when it was not crowded at all. We sat at the sushi bar and there were three chefs working at that time, we were assigned to the older chef. I walked in, ordered two salmon avocado rolls and they were ready in seriously less than ten minutes which was astounding because the place was so packed. The waiter was very nice. That's the reason they get the one star. The food was terrible. We had the all you can eat which is $24.99. The waiter explained that any of the food that was left over would be charged. We had no problem with that because they let us know up front. But when the first rolls came that's when we should have known to stop. They eel roll I had was a tiny piece of eel and a very soggy type rice. Also the eel wasn't cooked and if it was it came cold to the table. After our first rolls we said let's try something else. My son ordered a California roll because they can't mess that up right? Well they did the rice like I said is not good and the crab meat was even worse. Unfortunately I had ordered 3 other rolls and when we got them we just couldn't eat them with the rice being so soggy and with the tons of sauce they added it was just a pool of ugly. I forced one of the three rolls down just so they wouldn't give us such a hard time. When I asked for the check they wanted to charge me for the 2 rolls we left but I explained how we just couldn't eat them because how bad they tasted. The waitress who had taken over for our original waiter went to talk to the Manager. After a she spent a few minutes explaining to him what I had said. She said that they wouldn't charge us for the left over rolls this time but that they would not do it next time. Well I won't worry about that because I will not be going back because of how bad the food was.
