We got take-out from Mr. Taco on our way back from the World's Largest Corn Maze in Dixon. The soups sounded excellent (Birria! Menudo!) and we saw lots of people clearly enjoying them, but they didn't seem a good choice for the car, so we went with burritos. Skip the al pastor - it was a bland, boring letdown. I'm not sure I'd even have been able to ID the meat as pork if you'd given it to me blind, and it was over-sauced; a total disappointment. I'm not sure what the rest of the reviewers had in mind, but I regularly get MUCH better al pastor from my Oakland taco trucks. Instead, go for the garlic shrimp (camarones con ajo) - it was excellent! Garlicky, juicy shrimp cooked just enough and no more. Just be careful in the car, as it can be a bit drippy. The carne asada burrito was solid, and the guacamole tasty if a bit heavy on tomatoes. Certainly a solid win for road food, so long as you stay away from the al pastor. read more

I hovered between giving them 3 or 4 stars. I don't like their chips and salsa; I think they just buy chips in bulk. They don't seem to have a salsa, which is chopped vegetables and chiles. They have a hot sauce, which is ground red peppers in a tomato base, I think. Good on entrees, not good on chips. However, every burrito or entree I've ordered has been pretty good for the money. This place is somewhat more expensive than Taco Bell, and much, much better. You can sit down, or order to go, and service is reasonably fast either way. So, if I'm hungry, my choices, in order of preference, are: 1. Eat here. (very good, no trouble expected) 2. Eat at Taco Bell. (Not good, probably no emergency room visit needed though) 3. There burrito tortilla feel a bit undercooked for my liking, seemed a bit doughy. Place is right off the 80, taste overall was okay.. Relatively bland with nit too many salsa options. Not bad, not great, just okay. The service is pretty good tho as the workers are nice. No pico de gallo here though which is a bit of a letdown. If you're craving Mexican food though and this is your only option, it's good enough to fill your stomach and sit in a well decorated restaurant. read more

Food was decent but the young waitress with facial piercings and tattoos was not too friendly, like maybe she didn't want to be working there or something. Even when I greeted her upon arrival and thanked her for bringing drinks and food she did not even respond. Maybe one day she will figure out why her tips are not very good. Also, they have a sign in their window that says "No Food or Drinks Inside". It was the blandest burrito I have ever (partially) eaten. To their credit the flour tortilla was tasty and the burrito was hot (Not spicy hot). I am Danish, and I could make a spicier burrito. It tasted like watered down tomato soup with lots of rice, some chicken and one small green slice of something. Mr. Taco is a hole in the wall place off the freeway in Dixon. I was fortunate enough to have a few of their items when a co-worker stopped by and grabbed lunch here. My personal favorites are their chicken quesadillas and their taco salad. The quesadillas were just oozing with the right blend of beans, cheese, salsa, you name it. The beef taco salad was the best I've had. They added mangoes, avacado, and cilantro to their salsa dressing which added a certain citrusy taste to their salad which I love. Ok service, decent prices, but horrible food. How does a Mexican resturant mess up mexican food? Sopes are supposed to be fried. My masa was barley cooked, my soda that doesn't get a refill wqs full of ice all the way to the top, and the food is so bland. Will not be coming back. Oh and to top it off, I asked for no pico, and guess what? It came out with pico. When I sent it back, they brought them right back out within 1 minute. All they did was pick it off. 6/9/2018: Today headed to Rockville Cemetery in Fairfield - 4219 Suisun Valley Road - Fairfield. To get things started, Deanna Jaxine Stinson dropped $7.00 at Starbucks at Laguna Blvd/Franklin Blvd in Elk Grove, Ca - then off we went with Alaceo "Big Al" Rosatano. Half way to Fairfield, we are now hungry and we find Mr. Taco's in Dixon, CA. Big Al treated us to a nice lunch. I had a beef taco, beef enchilada, salad, Coke, tortilla chips and salsa, Spanish rice, refried beans. Plenty of food and the food is seasoned just right, so delicious, this is the best enchilada I had in a long, long time. Rosa the waitress was so kind, considerate and made sure we were fully accommodated. Rosa always had a nice smile on her face. Deanna had a veggie burrito and Big Al had a beef taco, we were all pleased with our meals. Big Al dropped about $30.00 bucks for 3 meals, very good price and we ate outdoors on this beautiful day. After our investigation, we headed back and Deanna dropped $18.00 at Baskin & Robbins on Laguna Blvd - Elk Grove for ice cream and milkshakes. Great stop. Good family Mexican restaurant. The enchilada sauce was very flavorful and almost had a hint of mole taste. The beans were creamy and delicious. Service was friendly and accommodating. They made a custom burrito for my husband with some items from the breakfast menu even though it was late afternoon. Good food. Nice people. We'll stop again. Living in the Sacramento region and having friends, family and occasionally work in the Bay Area I drive Hwy 80 at least once a month. Every time I pass Mr. Taco I debate stopping and today was the day for a visit. This is a small 15 table establishment with a small amount of decor and a TV tuned to a Spanish speaking station. It screams mom and pop. They have all the Mexican standards that you would expect but with a name like Mr. Taco I had to go taco. Lots of meat choices to chose from (carne asada, al pastor, carnitas, chicken, Molina, machaca, etc.). Tried the carne asada, al pastor and carnitas. They are served street taco style with warm flour tortillas, cilantro, onion and a salsa verde. The al pastor finished third as it was pretty low on the flavor spectrum. The asada was cooked nice and tender and really worked with the salsa verde. The carnitas were quite good. The carnitas were nice and smoky and were cooked with grilled onions that kicked it up a notch. The servings for all three tacos were generous. The tacos are $2.50 each. Overall, a solid joint that is pretty easy on the wallet. read more

Despite the name, this is a legitimate Mexican family restaurant - mole, menudo, pozole, etc. I had the "Mrs Salad" with carne asada and it was delicious. Silly name but fantastic food and charming interior. My boyfriend found this place with his daughter who goes to Davis. This should be a stop for anyone driving through to Sacramento or the mountains and a regular stop for locals. Ingredients are always fresh, the Mexican oregano and the secret ingredient makes the Pico de Gallo truly unique. The grilled chicken, carnitas, chile verde and beef birria are all memorable and there are several traditional items that are not found at other Mexican restaurants. The place is extremely clean; everyone is extremely friendly and its the type of place you want to spend your money at and tip outrageously because this gourmet food is priced so cheap. I'm surprised that the place isn't overrun by Davis students every weekend night. (Then again, I've never been there on a weekend night.) Don't let the strip mall location fool you. The quaint decor inside is one of a kind - historic Mexico, painted plates and collectibles. This is an example of how a Mom and Pop restaurant should be run. read more

The food was less than stellar, they doubled they amount they originally contracted to charge, and refused to acknowledge that they were being unethical in their charging practices. BEWARE! Food is great if you like hair in your tacos! I used to go to Mr Taco when I lived in Fairfield and also their location when it was in the green building about a block from their current location in Dixon. I have never been treated the way I was today. First I paid $30 for a combo meal with a taco, tamale, beans & rice (no drink) and my friend ordered 2 carne asada tacos with a burrito (no rice or beans. I took a few bites of everything until the last bite of taco when at first I thought it was string of melted cheese. I almost threw up when I started to gag from a short brown hair in my mouth. I immediately took the hair out of my mouth and spit the remaining food out of my mouth. I called and explained to her which she constantly talked over me so I asked to speak with a manager or owner. I heard nothing but silence as I kept saying "hello" 3-4 times. Then the lady was on the phone again. She told me my story was not credible! Basically calling me a liar! I was furious. I understand it's unfortunate that we live in a society that there is people that will lie to get a free meal or get there money back. But it's ruined it for the honest people in the world. I wasn't expecting to be refunded the entire meal and honestly after the customer service I received I didn't want them to make another combo meal and spit or something in it. I placed the hair in the beans so I could drive back (which I live in Roseville) and show her and at the very least get refunded for my meal which had the hair in the TACO. She said that their policy is to not give refunds. So apparently it's their policy to put hair in food??? She said however she would give me more beans. I explained to her I found hair in my taco and I took it out of my mouth and put it in the beans so it would be easy to locate later. That is why she said my story isn't "credible". I will NEVER go there again! Oh and to top it off there was a gentleman that walked out while my friend was talking to the lady inside and the gentleman said they basically accused him of something because his meal was missing tortillas. Which he said he only lived about 10 minutes away but still to be accused of something so simple. When all they had to do is say "I'm sorry, I apologize I would be upset over having someone else's hair in my mouth to. Would you rather us replace your meal or we can refund your meal back"? I understand accidents happen but I'm still unsure hat is more sickening the hair in my mouth or being called a liar! You decide! read more

I have visited Mr. Taco twice in the last month, and have come to the conclusion that it is the worst Mexican food I have ever had. On the fist trip I ordered the grilled chicken super burrito to go, the chicken had no flavor and felt like it had been boiled. The second time I was passing through Dixon and decided to give them a second chance, maybe they just dont know how to grill chicken. So this time I ordered up the carne asada plate. The guy asked me if I wanted Jalapenos with it, and I said no thanks. I then asked what it came with and he said avocado and onion. Five minutes later I received a plate with rice, beans, and some dry steak that looked like it had been heated up in the microwave 5 days in a row. WTF?? The meat looked like it had been cut up by a first grader, and had veins running through most pieces. It had absolutely no flavor, I could have ripped my leather belt off and chewed on that!! I am not much of a complainer, and I was hungry so I ate the food and went to pay, I was greeted with a $17 bill. What a joke, $17 for a soda and a some dry tasteless carne asada.. I should have known better then to eat here again, second time I walked in and was the only person in this place!!! read more

Though I previously enjoyed dining here, my last visit (around 2 weeks ago) was a terrible disappointment. We went on a Monday at about 5:30 pm-there were two tables of customers, one nearly finished, and a single person not yet served. After we were seated, we were eventually given chips that were cold and stale. When finally able to get the server's attention (she had mastered keeping her back to us when briskly passing) she took the chips and less than 60 seconds later brought out chips DRIPPING with oil and hot-perhaps the same ones re-fried. Though not busy, we had to flag her down for beverage refills, to take our order, and to finally get silverware/napkins. Meanwhile, the customer who arrived well after we placed our order was served his meal within 5 min. As it was taking so long, I asked for another refill on salsa and was told she would bring "special" sauce. It was extremely hot, which is fine for me but not my dining companion. Not sure why she did that. My shrimp burrito had very few pieces of shrimp. When I checked out, I used my debit card, which she ran for the meal amount only-I wanted to tip her even though it was poor service, so I had to use my card again. After the second transaction I saw that each time I was charged a 79 cent fee!! There was no mention of this, and I certainly would not have used it twice had I known. We never tried Mr. Taco until they moved to their new location, but I've never had better Mexican food anywhere. Their selection can't be beat -- with 26 combination plates, 17 seafood plates, 17 burritos (the creamy garlic shrimp in the camaron al mojo de ajo are to die for!), 11 types of taco (you can have a choice of grilled or seasoned shredded chicken tacos, for example) and 17 tortas, everyone will find something to love! They also have 9 kids of authentic Mexican breakfasts served all day, as well as Menudo every day and the most delicious hamburgers for those who prefer. The new location is cozy and clean, and the wait staff is very friendly and attentive. We agree that as their carry out menu says, Mr. Taco does have The Best Mexican Food in Solano County! read more
