Honestly the food is not bad, but it's not great. The birria tacos I ate specifically were good, but I've had better around Indianapolis for similar price. It's very basic flavoring of the cuisine, not giving you anything that makes you want to return more than once. Even the salsa was slightly bland and watery. The restaurant was clean and organized to handle what looks like a large amount of customers on a busier day. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were some of the only patrons in the establishment, however, our waitress still didn't check up on us frequently and forgot some things we ordered causing us to wait for extra sides, sauces, etc. The staff was friendly but not attentive. read more

Something has happened to this place. We decided to give it one last chance after several disappointing experiences. No other customers were dining when we entered yet the staff acted as if they couldn't be bothered by our presence. We sat outside and they were slow to come out and ask about drinks. We decided not to eat and just have drinks/ chips and salsa. The salsa was really bad, tasted like tomato sauce and no spice or flavor. The serve brought out the wrong beers and didn't seem to care when we let her know. We ended up leaving after one drink. Will not return. read more

I picked up a carry out order the 24th around 2 PM. The staff was rude. I ordered nacho supreme with no beans and beef no chicken. I am providing a picture this food was so disgusting looking I didn't take a single bite there was more grease then food in the container and it doesn't resemble nachos the all. We were told to go to this restaurant by a neighbor and I'm glad we came to experience it! It was delicious and the staff were very nice. They give the table chips and salsa to start. The arroz con pollo and Monterey steak fajitas were fantastic and both came with tortillas. Drink wise, I'd steer you away from the tequila mojito. It was really tart and not very minty. We stopped in here today after a morning of football at Lucas Oil. We were surprised that we were the only ones in the building. This location was also participating in the Devour Downtown menu so my husband and I both ordered off that. Our sons each ordered arroz con pollo which they said was delicious! I had the meatball soup (meatballs at Mexican sounded interesting but it was SO good!) and my husband had the salad. Both were fresh. I loved the soup! For our main course, I had the poblano and he had the pork belly tacos. His tacos were so good he didn't even share a bite with me. The poblano was great too. You could truly taste the authenticity. Originally we were trying to go to a different restaurant, and walked in here thinking it was something else, since we were already here, we decided to sit down and eat. The atmosphere is pretty chill, they had live music, and do every Saturday. Service was okay, our waitress was very nice, and the restaurant was not as busy, and even so, we multiple times needed water and she wasn't in sight, so it made it a little difficult. She didn't offer us plates as we got a huge side of guacamole, as well as she never brought us any napkins, we had to ask other staff and eventually, towards the end of our meal she brought them to us. The food was just okay to us. We weren't very impressed with it. The thing we loved the most was the guacamole as it was freshly done. The enchiladas were decent, but the sauce tasted as if it came from a can, the steak on the plate was well seasoned and cooked and it did taste very delicious. The tamale was pretty good! I could tell it was freshly done because of how soft the masa was. The chicken taco and the chicken burrito were overall just underwhelming. It was obvious it was an Americanized restaurant based off of them. The taco came in a flour tortilla, with the chicken mixture, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. The burrito was smothered in a sweet tasting sauce that resembles canned tomato soup. The rice tasted pretty good and the beans also tasted as they came canned. Overall, if you like Americanized Mexican food, then this would be your place to go. read more

The total price was $5 more than what was listed. No one previously mentioned the the hard copy prices had changed and they should have directed me to the online menu for current prices. I stopped in for a quick lunch as I was craving taquitos dorados (fried tacos); I ordered them with shredded beef. The order came in with queso fresco, sour cream, lettuce, and a red onions. All was delicious; the tortilla had the perfect crunch, BUT my favorite was the freshly made spicy salsa!!!! OMG This place will be my hidden gem to work & eat; I can only imagine what the patio is like during the spring and summer days...here I go! I like the two different vibes in the dining area and bar. They have live music and shows on the weekends. We had: 1.Complimentary chips and salsa 2. Queso dip ($5.99) - this is a thing you never find in California and while I don't care for it, my mom loves it. This queso was *very* watery and the most disappointing things of our meal but my mom still ate it . 3. Enchiladas Rancheras ($12.99) - "Three corn enchilada tortillas, stuffed with marinated grilled chicken and covered with red ranchera salsa lettuce,radishes and mexican cheese and sour cream served with refried black beans." (DELICIOUS. I never had radish and lettuce on my enchiladas and it was so good. All white meat chicken with a great marinade. Small but savory enchiladas. The black beans were the BEST I'VE EVER HAD hands down) 4. Hard Shell Tacos with Ground Beef (One for $2.19) - Mom loved it and said it was better than Taco Bell. She's a basic food B so that was a big compliment 5. Texas Margarita ($12) - Their top shelf. The server wasn't able to answer my questions about the margaritas (I don't like sweet and sour) so I ordered the top shelf. I thought it was OK. There was sweet and sour in it and it wasn't strong at all, which was OK for it being 11:30 AM 6. Virgin Strawberry Margarita ($9.99) for mom. She drank it all and loved it. Off the menu tomatillo hot sauce. Smokey in flavor. I thought it was OK. Did the trick at adding heat to notoriously non-spicy Hoosier food. Overall, I'd go back for the food and to try a different drink. ONE CAVEAT: Service was friendly, but, the server struggled to have answers or understand us and we were clear in our questions. I know English is her second language, but it did make for some challenges in understanding spice levels, ingredients, etc. She appeared to either not understand or to not know the answer. The reason I mention this is that if you are gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan you might have a hard time getting answers to things like if the refried black beans are cooked in lard (I don't know) or if they can modify something for GF. -- Overall, I'd say a generous 4 out of 5 stars for ambiance, friendliness, parking/location, and the entrees. Recently I gave Mr Tequila's a try. The interior is modern with nice touches of bright color. I ordered a senor quesadilla with chicken. The meal was well made and delicious. The server was polite enough, although not very enthusiastic. Also, while my table was clean, some food bits were noticed on the floor, and the neighboring table seemed to have some salsa residue that needed wiping. Maybe it was bad timing during my visit, and came when the workers were exhausted. It was a little over an hour before closing time, as I recall. Mr. Tequila is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. Our entrees always arrive hot, prepared as requested, and flavorful. Service is usually excellent with friendly servers. The complimentary chips and salsa are served immediately and our drinks arrived quickly. They offer several types and sizes of margaritas plus specials on Monday. I ordered the large Texas margarita and my husband had a large 32 oz Dos Equis Amber. Dinner consisted of a Burrito Bandera for my husband with grilled chicken and steak burrito topped with salsa verde and red sauce. He enjoyed the new entree and would order again. I had a large bowl of Chicken and Rice Soup with shredded chicken, avocado, and pico de gallo. The soup was delicious and I couldn't finish all of it. Mr. Tequila has a large lunch and dinner menu with all your favorites from nachos, tacos, quesadillas, salads, egg dishes, enchiladas, burritos, seafood, and Fajitas. Vegetarian entrees are also available. I especially like the Enchilada De Mole with 3 chicken enchiladas topped with a special mole Maria sauce. If you enjoy seafood try the Enchiladas Del Mar with 4 corn tortillas stuffed with crab meat, shrimp, onion, and tomato topped with cheese sauce. These are just a couple of my regular entrees. The patio is comfortable running along East Street with several tables with umbrellas. Hopefully, this will be an easy and quick winter. This is a good spot if you are looking for some classic Mexican food. Margaritas, burritos, enchiladas, etc. They don't put any special twists on anything (at least that I ordered) and sometimes that's exactly what you want- to know exactly what you'll get when you order. Mexican comfort food! The portions were pretty perfect- I was able to eat an entire plate of mole enchiladas and a side of elote. I left full but not too full! The prices were great too. All of that for less than $15. We were there for Cinco De Mayo and it was a full on celebration. DJ, live music, and food deals. We got a seat after a while (it was very busy- good for them!) and were able to order from the full menu. This was my first and last time coming here. The only reason I gave it 2 instead of 1 was because of the drinks. I was very disappointed because many of my friends said it was amazing. I ordered the steak fajitas. When it came to the table, the plate wasn't sizzling as it usually suppose to be. When I got my food, I was disappointed. The bell peppers and onions were not cooked, the steak tasted chewy and unseasoned and the cheese was barely melted. I asked the waitress about, she shrugged her shoulders and said "You still have to pay for it and if you don't I'm calling the police." I was confused as to why she said that. So I went to the front asked to speak to the manager, I told him I would still be willing to pay, because that wasn't the issue. It was just my food was horrible. The manager was SO SO nice. We had a blast on their front patio! It was a warm, sunshine-y day and their big, front patio was the perfect relaxation spot. We got free chips and salsa, and I settled in with an Estrella beer. Our server was very smiley and relaxed. We all ordered dinner and I chose the fajita taco salad with steak. I was super impressed with how high quality the steak was. There were zero fatty or chewy parts, which was super appreciated. The sauce on the bowl was amazingggg and the veggies tasted fresh too. A little off the beaten path being close to both Fountain Square and downtown, but worth the walk or drive (and they have an attached private parking lot). The salsa is so good, very fresh and just the right spicy kick. I sat on the patio this time and while at first a little loud due to street noise, that abated after rush hour and it was so nice to be able to enjoy a lovely sunny spring evening. Happened to be there on a Monday so tried their margarita special which was totally on point. Also had chicken con pollo (with chorizo but I can't remember the exact menu name). Went back to Mr Tequilas for their delicious $2 tacos, and I have to say I was quite disappointed. The tacos previously were on corn tortillas with cilantro, onion, verde salsa, and lime. They felt more authentic and fancy. Even though I ordered the same tacos, they came on soft shells with lettuce, older tomato, and cheese. Felt like a Taco Bell taco without the good flavor. I loved the carnitas tacos in the past but couldn't even finish the one last night. The arroz con pollo was good, but also different. There wasn't much rice or queso, more stir fry veggies. To top it off, we now had to pay extra for more chips and salsa. Mr. Tequilas was a favorite in the past, but I'll have to think twice before going back. read more

Atmosphere: Nothing special, but clean and decent. Plenty of parking in the private lot. It was pretty quiet because there were only two other tables seated for dinner. Hmmm... Food: The apparently homemade salsa is spicy and good, and our table of six devoured that in no time. My friend and I split the Veggie Fajitas, which were pretty good. I liked that they also included broccoli, zucchini and yellow squash, instead of just the standard onion, tomato and bell pepper. However, even knowing that two of us were splitting the dish, we were only given three corn tortillas to start, and three at a time when we asked for more. Who wants to keep asking for more tortillas? They could have just brought us three tortillas each at the beginning and we would have been good. Service: Needs work. There was the tortilla issue, for one. Also, I had ordered a specific red wine. The server came back and said they didn't have it. No problem, I ordered a different red wine (pointing to it on the menu). The server brought me back a glass of white wine. Finally, I thought to use my Spanish in explaining what I wanted, and she returned with a glass of red wine - who knows what type it was, but I didn't care at that point, at least it was red. This place has been on my list of places to try based on their margarita rating but.......I can't say I would come back. When we walked in we didn't have to wait very long to be greeted which was nice; we had our choice of table or booth. Because of my leg they gave us the combo style which was nice. The host left the drink menu and brought out chips and salsa; we hurriedly ordered queso, which was brought out rather quickly. That was the end of the swiftness of everything. I would strongly advise you have your ENTIRE order including drinks because it will be a hot second before anyone gets to you. And it's possible they're short staffed who knows! It was disappointing when I asked about the different margaritas that the response was "alcohol is alcohol" with a response like this I'm trying to figure out how they landed in the top 10 places for margaritas. We placed our first round which was pretty decent. I enjoyed the Katrina although it was sweeter than I thought it would be and unfortunately to my dismay we ran out of chips, drinks, AND water with not a waiter/waitress in sight. Unfortunately for me after waiting for over 20 minutes the food came out but came out cold! Talk about a disappointment!!! I will say the flavors are very nice! I ordered the enchilada suizas and the sauce is very flavorful and delicious. I wasn't expecting the chicken chunk strips in it, and though they were marinated to perfection a shredded or more cut up chicken would've been better. It was hard to cut through but it also could've been because mine was cold. My daughter ordered the steak tacos which she was amazing. I can't lie her tacos looked to be perfection so I could believe it. Mi Amor ordered Arroz con Pollo and he didn't leave much of anything on his plate, lol. I ordered a tamarind margarita and it was great! It came out quick which was nice considering how long we waited for everything else.
