    Salmon maki
    Sarah C.

Review for take out only. After seeing the restaurant, I wished I dined in instead. The place is intimate and cozy. Next time for sure! Called in for salmon maki and the order was ready in 10 mins. Beautifully packed, fresh and generous portion of salmon. Would like more vinegar in the rice but that's my preference.

I really toiled with this review. I wanted to be big in Mr. Tuna going into the experience - a lot of folks that I know are really into it. I enjoy the handrolls from their food truck! We rolled in and got a seat right away, which was awesome. The staff were friendly and helpful! As for the food - I'll start with the food stuff. The Tuna de Tigre was REALLY good!! And the ice cream toastie, which had been highly recommended, was very good and unique! As for the disappointing - my main complaint was with the sushi rolls... I was bothered that the sushi was essentially standard roll, one that I can get at other sushi restaurants, with a squirt of a sauce for an extra like 5 or 6 dollars. I always very disappointed with the tuna nachos. They sounded and looked appealing but lacked anything that really made me want to order them again. All in all, I liked it - but it left something to be desired in my opinion. I think going forward, Mr. Tuna will be reserved for Tuna de Tigre and Ice Cream Toasties (and the Handrolls form their food trucks at concerts and festivals)!

I love sushi so I was happy to try this place for dinner on a Sunday evening. We were able to get street parking a couple streets away. They were able to seat 4 of us immediately without a reservation around 8:20 on a Sunday evening. Inside is cute and a decent amount of seating. Workers are all very kind. The menu has a variety of different told and fish. I ordered the spicy tuna maki roll and seared salmon teriyaki burrito. I loved both of them. Fish tasted fresh and ingredients were delicious. Prices for sushi were very average about $35 for both plus tip. So a little more on the expensive end but normal for sushi I would say. Yum!

This was a really great lunch spot on a sunny Saturday in Portland. I was able to score some happy hour deals from 11-12 and opted for the Mrs Tuna cocktail with was delicious and super fun. I think the wine selections are also great prices without having a happy hour price tag so i went for a nice white to pair with my rolls. It was hard deciding which maki rolls to get, everything sounded amazing and the servers were great with answering any questions. I ended up going with the halibut, salmon teriyaki, and tuna mango. i wanted to try a variety and i think the prices are great for the quality and fun options you can get. The rolls are a great size so one person can definitely eat 3 of the regular size maki's like i did. I really like the bar seating so i could watch the magic happen while i relaxed and ate my rolls. I'm usually not a soy sauce person but there's is phenomenal and i'm not sure how they are doing that! It was cool to see Mr Tuna (the chef who started this place) behind the bar at noontime working! I always think that goes to show how passionate this place is with great leadership. Everything was so fresh and tasty. To end the server told me about the special toastie they had and i knew i had to try it. This was sourdough ice cream with a maple pecan crumble and wow!!!!!! I can't believe i almost skipped dessert here because that would have been a huge regret. It was so good with the crunchy sweet hawaiian roll and then the cold ice cream inside. I definitely recommend getting whatever special they have that day since it seems to be a fun spin on there original toasty. I actually can't wait to come back and try some other rolls, as it seems like they are always keeping up with what's fresh and what the chef wants to be creative with!

This place was pretty cool vibes, while still feeling clean. The tuna was GAS. I would say definitely get the Mr.Tuna special maki roll and get the tuna tigre so good. If you need some tasty nutrition, definitely get the kale salad and seaweed salad. We also go the Maine crab maki roll and it was mid. Perhaps Maryland crabs are better! Everyone was so nice.

We've been waiting to try this for a while now. Finally we got to give it a try. Cute spit, and easy to find. Parking can be challenging but not bad Food quality is top notch, albeit a bit pricey but taste, service and friendliness make up for it.

    Small subarashii don

I was sooo excited about this place because the chef was a JB semi-finalist and the branding really sold me. Very underwhelming and expensive, like others have mentioned. We ordered a small subarashii don and a couple of maki rolls. I did not realize how small their small really was, but safe to say, we were still hungry after. I felt like everything was just ~okay~ and the fish did not taste that fresh to me. I was definitely expecting more from this place being so close to the water, and especially for the price you're paying.

I want to start off by noting I am not a sushi fan. My husband is so I went in knowing I'd have a hard time with finding something that I would like. We started with the edemame with the spicy salt. Oh my gosh!! The salt they make needs to be bottled and sold! It was so good!! The waitress said it was a mix of garlic and maybe dried wasabi. It was so good with a punch of wasabi that would sneak up and get you. We ordered a kale salad and it was very good too. My husband had a few different hand rolls and said each one was good except for the special tuna one. He did not like that one at all. I got the all dressed up tuna and it was pretty good. I love the crunch from the crispy garlic. It did have a sneaky punch from the jalapeños which was unexpected but good.

Laid-back sushi restaurant with really creative flavor combos and great cocktails. Mr. Tuna is worth the extra steps as it's just a bit outside of the main downtown area near the end of middle street. All of the food was really good and pretty fairly priced, but the Tuna de Tigre should not be missed. What we ate: - Tuna de Tigre (must get) - Blackbeard's Delight (very good) - Halibut (unique) - Tuna Gochujang (simple but really good) - Tuna Mango (good, not great) - Vanilla/Miso Caramel Ice Cream Toastie (must get)

PLEASE NOTE: This review is for the mobile sushi bar/food cart. It seems that the reviews and photos here are for both the Mr Tuna restaurant (83 Middle St) AND the Mr Tuna mobile sushi bar/food cart (location varies, but usually somewhere in Portland: Eastern Prom, Thompson's Point, etc.). I think that's very confusing and misleading; they are two different experiences, locations, and menus so they should be two different listings. After being open for nearly ten years, I finally got to try the hand rolls. Meh. Nearly $10 for two bites of mostly an unpleasantly tough nori wrapper? I don't get the hype. I appreciated that there were three vegan options (sweet potato described as "the usual flavors", teriyaki mushroom described as "sweet and familiar", and veggie described as "interesting and umami" from the person working the cart), but... I'm all set. (With the mobile food bar anyway, I'm still very interested in trying the actual restaurant especially with a couple of people recently shouting out their spicy crunchy avocado maki and avocado salad.)

We had an amazing sushi lunch here. It lived up to my expectations and more. We had the multiple maki rolls, sashimi dishes, and the kale salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. The different flavor combos were refreshing and delectable. I highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for quality sushi. This restaurant will definitely not disappoint. We will definitely come again!

Underwhelming and mediocre. I was excited to try because the reviews were so good but very disappointed. Ordered 3 hand rolls to go. Upon opening, they looked pretty measly and sad. The only notable one was the spicy scallop and crab, with good flavors. The aburi toro and spicy salmon were very meh. Texture of fish was lacking and had minimal flavors. Spicy tuna maki felt like grocery store sushi. Considering this was Portland I was expecting high quality and fresh fish. This definitely did not feel like that.

What a fun and unique sushi place. The food was fantastic and the service was great. We asked what their favorites were and we tried some of their suggestions. You can get bowls or you can have a maki roll or as a burrito wrapped in seaweed. Their mini cigar options were cute, mini rolls from some options. Full gluten free menu!! You can sit at a table or at the bar. It really is the little things they have.

We enjoyed the fresh oysters and the 'clambake' of mixed seafood treats. When we were recently back in town, we were looking forward to a return visit but sadly, were quite disappointed. The good news is that the oysters were fresh and tasty ($37/doz). The rest was disappointing. The servings were now tapas-size. The well-known brown butter lobster roll was not quite like the image on the www site. Tasty, but not a meal. (Red's Eats is a real lobster roll.) We also ordered bluefin tuna crudo, which is sprinkled with scallions and diced ginger bits and slices of radish. The tuna was fresh, but the flavor of this fish is not strong enough to stand up to these toppings. Taken together, the fish is barely detectable. Pull off the radish and the fish comes through but the ginger dominates. Pick off most the ginger and it's pretty good. However, there should not have been a fish scale (~1 cm sq). Makes me wonder about the potential crossover in the kitchen. Sorry, Eventide, we'll go elsewhere next time.

The lemon sole (fish) and octopus carpaccio (not pictured) were filled with flavor! The pork belly was very underwhelming and I would not order again. The waiter said 2-4 plates per person. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding additional dishes based on how you're feeling. The amount of food was very different from dish to dish. For example the tuna dip had way too much bread and the pork belly was very small in size. Overall I was half impressed. I wish the staff would take a moment to announce the plate as it's placed next to you or point it out on the menu for those hard of hearing and wanting to know what they are about to enjoy. However the music, overall restaurant vibe and half the dishes exploding with flavor made my experience pleasant and I will return again knowing a bit more of what to expect and looking at photos of the menu/meal options beforehand.
