When you are passing through on your way to Stanley, ID, this is definitely a place to stop. It is small but not loud. There is seating on the patio but today it is 95 so no way Jose. We stopped by here for lunch after a morning at the hot springs and it was the perfect spot to hit before the drive back home. It was beautiful covered in snow on the outside! The server was friendly and attentive made it easy on us... simple lunch we got a BLT and French dip... the onion rings were very good! Do not drive past Trudy's without eating here! It was recommended to me by a Boise native to at least have the pie! My food mate and I were very pleasantly surprised at how many Gluten Free options on their menu. We had the Hamburger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese on a gluten free bun with fries. Delicious! The bun was soft and sweet, the pattie hand formed and cooked right, the fries are fried in gluten free oil. We got the homemade ranch and fry spread to go with them. Awesome! And we saved enough room for a piece of cocoanut cream pie that was 5 inches tall! Gluten free on the inside (but not the crust) with toasted coconut on top. AND we could not resist the totally gluten free huckleberry cheesecake!!! Yum!!! If the gluten free food was this good I can only imagine how good the regular items must be. Our party of four stopped in for a lunch during a weekday. There were plenty of tables filled even though this was a Thursday. The first thing we noticed was the loud and bossy manager calling out orders to the kitchen from the dining area, although the venue did not look like a typical diner. The food was all excellent, with the exception of the potato mushroom soup which was a little too salty. The finger steaks, a featured item were made with prime rib and were tender and delicious. The fish and chips were very tasty as well and the turkey avocado sandwich and grilled cheese likewise. The fries were cooked very extra crispy as requested. The peach rhubarb pie was delicious. I was disappointed that the manager did not provide a duplicate copy of the CC receipt for my files, a pet peeve of mine. She stapled the order ticket to the restaurant's copy which is another poor practice and I inadvertently walked out with both after I had signed their copy and included a tip. When I realized my mistake and handed over my signed copy I spoke with the manager about this practice. But she curtly dismissed my concern as unimportant. I still recommend this place for the food. Service was friendly and satisfactory. Very pleasant waitress; offset the crude manager but the manager is running the internal operation well, there is no question about that. read more

We enjoyed dining at this restaurant while visiting Idaho City. The decorations inside are lovely. It may appear to be old outside but it is nice and clean inside (including the restrooms). The server was very tentative and friendly, and the food was just so good. Good size, not greasy, and very delicious! The fish filet in the sandwich was crispy outside but juicy inside. So today we headed up to one of the oldest towns in Idaho today called Idaho City...first what a beautiful drive along the way. There aren't a bunch of options in the small town so based on reviews this was the for sure pick. Inside typical old school roadside diner vibe with plenty of seating inside and outside under cover. We chose to sit inside based on it being pretty windy today. Once seated they are quick to drop off some water and let us know the soup special of the day which was pork stew. After a quick look of the menu we ordered a few adult beverages and what I really liked was the frozen ice cold mugs that come with the beverages. We decided to start off with some onion rings to start and while I know they were frozen they were cooked perfectly and the fry sauce that came on the side was bomb and the homemade ranch equally as bomb! For lunch I had the bacon and bleu cheese burger with potato salad and my wife had the regular cheese burger with the daily soup special. Let me break this down and the reason this is a 3 star and not a 4+ star. The service 5 star our waitress Dee was amazing! She was so attentive and so friendly and made this a repeat. The burgers while I had high didn't hit for me at all. The buns were fresh, soft and tasty. My burger was so overdone that all flavor was completely gone. While the burger had what it said they are not dressed with anything and unfortunately had to drown it in ketchup to choke it down. The bacon soggy and the huge chunks of bleu cheese looked more of any afterthought more than a burger creation. My wife's burger was the same way overcooked and all flavor was gone. But the daily soup she loved and the side of potato salad were the high points. What would bring me back is the service and the opportunity to try some of their homemade pies or cinnamon rolls. read more

A nice stop for lunch on the way back to Boise from the Kirkham Hot Springs. The inside was very cute and the staff very welcoming, however not everyone was wearing a mask. They weren't enforcing customers to wear masks either, so we felt pretty uncomfortable in there. We decided to take our food to go. The finger steaks were pretty good with the cocktail sauce, but there weren't very many of them. We also split a Mushroom Swiss burger and devoured it in seconds. The mushrooms on that burger were cooked to perfection! We last-minute decided to treat ourselves to some huckleberry cheesecake, and I'm so glad we did! It wasn't overly sweet but had the perfect amount of tart from the huckleberries. I would very much recommend you stop by this nice local restaurant, but maybe wait until the pandemic gets better. They both had the cheeseburger and fries kids meal and my very picky 6yo ate the burger and fries with no complaints! I got to try some of their burgers and they were so yummy! I ordered the chili and cornbread and a side salad. The chili was the best chili I've ever had at a restaurant. I usually never eat the whole thing when I order it at restaurants but this time I did. The salad was delicious and the in-house ranch very tasty. My husband got the Reuben sandwich. It was gigantic and stuffed with meat. He really enjoyed it. The dessert was also very good. Whoa Amazing food!!! We found this on yelp and debated since it was only 4 stars, but were so glad we tried it after all! The food was delicious, and the service great. It was a Friday mid afternoon and other restaurants were empty, but this one was pretty full, which we took as a selling point. And even though they were busy, they were extremely helpful, and nice, and the food came out without too long of a wait at all. We ordered the taco salad, fish and chips, and shared a piece of carrot cake. Everything was off the charts delicious, and the portions were generous. I'm fact the cake was HUGE!!!
