Great subs but awful and rude service. Went there at about 12 a.m. The place had 2-3 people who had already placed their orders. I placed mine as did my friend and we waited. A crowd of about 7 people walk in and place their order. Only a few people from the crowd ordered something. After waiting about 15 min I see the people who got there after me and my friend receive their orders. I go inside to ask the guy taking orders what's up with my food and I'm told sarcastically "you ordered chicken, I don't want to give you salmonella." No apology, no "I'm sorry all those people got their food before you, I messed up." Straight up sarcasm from the rude person who works there. this pizza was great! I was alittle disappointed in the place though. It's very small, high counters(i'm very short), just counter top seating. I was expecting different. But the workers were very friendly. They also only accept cash, which is really crappy, but they have an atm (which charged appx 2.50$) The pizza was great, we bought it by the slice(3), with drinks. It was i believe 13$ and some change. They were pretty big slices, but they only did cheese or pepperoni on the slices. I was wanting sausage when we went in. Still great pizza! Was out looking for late night grub since we got in late. A few places had already closed their kitchens, reviews on Mr. Z's were great and it did not disappoint. Cheesesteak is better than philly all day and twice on Sunday's. Buddy got the pizza sub, he thought it was amazing. Fries are great as well. I just visited Key West and my hotel was a block away from Mr. Z's so we stopped there on night before we went out to drink. I am from the Philadelphia area and this place aims to be a "Philadelphia-style" restaurant. Pictures of the Phillies World Series victory in '08 along with some other Philadelphia memorabilia were hanging on the walls which was cool. Good atmosphere. The food on the other hand was not very good, ordered a meatball sub and the meatballs were microwaved right in front of me. My girlfriend got a ham and cheese hoagie which was average, it's hard to mess that up. Overall, not bad for $14 to feed two people. read more

My friends and I went to this place. My friend ordered 4 slices of pizza, 4 beers and a Stromboli. We were eating outside because the inside was crowded and one of our friends brought oregano outside. No worker said anything about bringing it out. Everyone was leaving and one of the workers named Jack with a black beard approached us with an angry attitude for no reason "why don't you bring the oregano back in because you're not supposed to have it out there to start with." My friend politely said "How about a please and I'll bring it in?" The worker threw a fit and stormed out a whole six steps picking up the oregano from the back of their delivery truck. And proceeded to tell my friends and me we were banned from the place. Idk if he was having a bad night or what. He started mocking me when I said nothing, never had anything to do with the situation of bringing in or out any oregano. He said "Jesus, I'll remember your face." Because I was wearing white. We commented what's the big deal and while leaving on our bikes the workers screamed for car behind us to "hit him, hit him!" It was ridiculous. I won't visit here again. read more

Average, at best. We all wanted a low key night in, so we ordered delivery. Was told it would be 45-60 minutes, and it took 90. Not the end of the world, but took a long time. Had a pizza with pepperoni and onion, but didn't taste or find any onion. Pizza tasted burned, but I didn't see any black crust on the bottom. Crust was chewy and had a slightly "artificial" taste to it. Daughter had a Caesar salad, and said it was good. We also ordered a cheese steak and a roast pork sandwich. Cheese steak was decent, but the roast pork was not very good. The broccoli rabe wasn't bitter like I'm accustomed to, and I didn't get any sharp provolone taste at all. lastly, the cheesesteak and roast pork sandwich were rolled up in a paper plate and the normal "butchers paper", and it was difficult to get them out without ripping the rolls. Perhaps the delivery took so long that all the juices and cheese escaped, making the plate and wrapper a bit of a mess. I grew up near Philly, but don't expect much when I order "Philly food" elsewhere. I've lived all over the country, and you can always find decent versions of Philly food in various spots, but this wasn't really one of them. Wouldn't eat here again with all the other options in the area. read more

We only ate out twice while in Key West because everything was so expensive, but Mr Z's allowed us to eat out without breaking the bank. We are not cheap but when you are paying $25/day to park your car you gotta cut back somewhere, right? My husband loves cheesesteak so he was all about eating here and am I ever glad we did. By far the best value for your money. I had the pizza one day and a sub the next but my husband swears this is the best cheesesteak anywhere, so he had one each day :) The guys that work here are fabulous, hard working guys...keep up the good work!! read more

The guy behind the counter taking our order was extremely rude. I asked for green peppers on my chicken cheese steak and he said the owner wouldn't allow it. Wtf? I thought he was trying to be funny but he was totally serious and had a major attitude about it. Waited out front until it was ready and the entire time he was talking to the other employees about how we didn't leave a tip. Didn't even give us an opportunity to tip before trash talking their customers. I would normally tip after the food was prepared and handed to me. The other couple we were with were so upset over the incredibly poor customer service that they said so to the guy. He didn't say anything. Cheese steak was okay but ive had way better. You just spent a long, sweltering, booze-filled day bouncing between Sloppy Joes (live band), Smokin Tuna (more live bands), Hogs Breath (live webcam), The Littlest Bar (cheap Jager Bombs), Two Friends (karaoke), Rick's Bar (boobies), Captain Tony's (pirate punch/bras on ceiling), Cowboy Bill's (the bull) - you finally get it. You. are. drunk. You. are. hangry (so hungry, you're angry). You need to eat. Enter: Mr. Z's. A no frills, tiny pizza joint just off Duval near the Pegasus Hotel. My recollection of Mr. Z's is fuzzy, but I do know the Pizza is damn good. In my opinion, the best in Key West. I've stopped in here on many occasions (both drunk and sober) and the pizza is always piping hot and delicious. And, I don't say this lightly as I'm from Jersey after all. BUT, let's not forget the REAL superstar of the show: Mr. Z's FAMOUS CHEESE FRIES. Trust me here people, you want these in your mouth. Even if you don't like French fries or cheese, the marriage of these two foods is a blessing from the Gods. The dipping cheese is nothing short of crack-tastic and addictive. Not sure how they make it or where they get it, but you'll be asking for extra and you will result to sucking every last bit from your fingertips. Believe it! There is absolutely no ambiance at Mr. Z's - just a bunch of guys slinging pizza and yelling orders. But, they get the job done - cheap and fast. Get your food and take it to go. Eat on the street corner if you must. Or, take it back to your pricey hotel and enjoy it on the balcony or byy the pool. Reviewed these guys on Google and I felt it would be an injustice not to endorse them in the Yelpersphere! As soon as I walked past the that night and smelled the goodness that was being fanned out of the window, there was only on thought in my mind -Philly! Let me tell you I have looked far and wide for a "Philly Cheesesteak" outside of Philly and I have only been left disappointed and hungry time and time again until I found this place... The meat is cooked to perfection and the cheese flows as if from heaven. Then their is the fries, when you order them bring a friend because it takes a team to counqure the mountain of fries.
