I haven't been to Mrs. Knotts Chicken Dinner restaurant such a long time for no other reason than it didn't cross my mind. From what I did remember, the food just didn't impress me. Last night we started off great, party of 7 reservations at 5:30pm. Parking was good and we were able to park in the metered parking lot even though the sign at the entrance said full. Our table was ready and was seated right on time. Our waiter came by who was very friendly and boy did he know his stuff, got us started with some nice biscuits with boysenberry jelly (unique and delicious), waters and iced teas. Chicken noodle soup was excellent (small little cup), green salad was nice and fresh (ranch dressing was a little too much for me), and our food orders came out shortly after. Mrs. Knotts fried chicken was (original) was nicely flavored and crispy on the outside, the mashed potatoes were good but the gravy wasnt my cup of tea. The chicken dumplings were a little too doughy for my Mom's liking but the soup side of it was excellent. My wife ordered the chicken tenders dinner which was good. My brother had the chicken pot pie ans said it was a good choice. Overall the food was good, service was excellent, value was excellent and atmosphere awesome! read more

Whether you order a chicken dinner for yourself, or go for the split option where you pay a little more for extra portions and share with someone, I guarantee you will be full and satisfied. The chicken is just okay imho. I can see why people like it, but it's the biscuits and chicken soup for me. I highly recommend dipping a warm biscuit into the hot chicken soup and eating them together. Frankly, I don't even touch the jam and butter anymore but don't get it twisted, this combo is phenomenal as well. Just depends whether you prefer savory versus sweet. The salad is fine. Just a basic house salad with croutons. I like the boysenberry dressing just because I feel like I'm getting more of a Knott's Berry Farm experience. If you're into alcoholic beverages, I recommend the lemon drop. I'm generally not a big fan of sweet drinks, but there's something about it that's appealing to my taste buds. Some other time I believe I had the boysenberry version, and that was yummy as well. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is lively and family friendly. The wooden chairs are a bit uncomfortable so if you're sensitive about that, perhaps booth seating will bring you more comfort in your dining experience. We've been wanting to check this place out for a long time and so glad we finally did. I will say, the chicken is good...not the best we ever had, but good enough to say this was a great dinner. We arrived on a Saturday evening and had no wait. We were sat immediately. Our server (Melinda) was the absolute best. She took our order, never wrote a single thing down and nailed the order 100%!!! That's is always impressive. Our food came out so fast! My wife had the chicken dumpling meal and I had the traditional chicken dinner (4 pc). Both came with soup, salad, corn, biscuits and a slice of pie for dessert. All for about $25 bucks!!! At a theme park...that a steal! But the best part is the food was good! If you're looking for a time saver and good value, we got the marketplace bucket from the chicken-to-go and had more than enough food for four people. We took the food into the park and found some tables in Camp Snoopy. Such a good deal for $48, 16 pieces of fried chicken that were crispy and well seasoned. The chicken was moist and delicious. The mashed potatoes and country gravy were amazing! We got the coleslaw and macaroni and cheese, they were OK. Loved that it comes with 12 biscuits and boysenberry jam. Food was mostly meh, biscuits were good. It was a late dinner, sat at 8:30pm Lemonade drink I am sad to say tasted like... let's just say not good. I did appreciate the lemons that was brought with my hot water. My chicken and dumplings were sent back, too peppery and top dumplings were cold. I knew it was not fresh with that matte look on the gravy on top. He still gave me a pie. My nieces salmon had been over cooked and had to be restarted, they brought her a pasta dish to have with the rest of us until it was ready. She had to rush to finish it when it eventually arrived as we all were mostly done. My mom who was most excited to return here after over 40 years, got the fried chicken. Chicken thighs was (to me) leaning on dry side but she was a good sport and ate as much as she could (huge portion). She did not like the mashed potatoes and gravy and asked for rice which they brought. My nephews sliders.... Looked popped into the microwave and just looked sad on the plate. This was a place of nostalgia for me and I decided to bring my daughter and the food taste absolutely the same amazing the chicken was fried to perfection. Very nice size. We shared a lunch two-piece chicken meal. It came with a salad as well as corn and mash potatoes. It filled both her and I up. The star of the show had to be the biscuits. There's a consistency with the biscuits that is now similar to me as Chick-fil-A morning mini biscuit chicken and of course the jelly was so amazing. Before I forget, the gravy on the mashed potatoes were out of this world. The creaminess of that sauce could go on the chicken. It could go on the biscuit. Just ask for a side of that gravy. This restaurant has the history but definitely left it's historical roots behind. It's a famous restaurant that's outside of the Knott's park. It has a big rooster statue outside the restaurant so should be easy to find. The interior oozes history and the past. The unfortunate thing is the food is a letdown and service is really really slow. The servers are courteous and friendly but they did mess up my order. Instead of the piece of pie they gave me an extra juice punch... The food also took so long. I spent over 90 minutes (20 minutes wait for seating) in the restaurant overall which is a waste of time since I'd rather be in the park. The food is also really so so. The fried chicken has nothing to beat or even stand apart from even fast food chicken. The breading is very ordinary fried chicken with oil that's not super fresh. There is no dipping sauce which is alright but the chicken itself has no flavor. The pieces are also tiny (smaller than kfc)! They did load up on mashed potatoes which no one liked. The chicken fried steak has the same sauce loaded way too heavy on the meat. It's just not good and very plain. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, and it came with a side salad, chicken noodle soup, and a slice of pie. I got my gravy on the side, as I usually do, because I like my chicken fried steak to stay crispy. The chicken fried steak was kind of dry. He lives within walking distance and dines here often. I appreciate the atmosphere and nostalgia of the decor. Cameron was our server and was on the ball with his follow up and overall service. So...the last time I dined at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant was about 2.5 years ago. Just returned this evening and it was AWFUL. Why? First the portions were the smallest I've *ever* been served. No joke. Second, they're now charging $26.49 for the full dinner meal (salad, soup, mashed potatoes, chicken, corn, piece of pie) not including a drink which is $6.99 for soda, iced tea, or boysenberry punch. Add tax and tip and that's about $43 for one person. Third, we're only allowed TWO biscuits with our meal, that's it. Any more than that? You have to buy them. WTF? The biscuits were always unlimited! Now you get two, literally. Is this a joke? If you've been eating here for over 45+ years like I have, and go in now, you'll feel incredibly disappointed and disrespected as a long time patron. Their pricing and portions are bizarre now. Mrs. Knott's Mother's Day Brunch Buffet was delicious. Not only do they offer all you can eat Mrs. Knott's Famous Fried Chicken, but they also offer Prime Rib, Roast Ham and Herb Crusted Pork Lion carving stations. There's also many brunch favorites, south of the border entrees and a pastry dessert table. All this and table side Buttermilk Biscuits. You need to make reservations and the wait was not long after our time slot. The staff all are friendly and prompt. The countryside decor adds to the charm of what the original Mrs. Knott's fruit stand restaurant was. This is definitely a great dinner option and now an annual Mother's Day tradition! read more

I wanted to give this place some love as the theme park is one of my favorites. Something about Knotts chicken noodle soup is incredibly delicious. It's a shame that you don't get a bigger portion. I really wanted to like this place! My friend and husband both said it was so good, but my experience with the chicken was disappointing. Let me explain: Ambience 5/5- wooden furniture, spacious, cool bar! Lots of historic photos on the wall showing the restaurant and people in the 1940s! Service 5/5- greeted in a friendly manner at the door and brought back to our table in the nice quieter bar area about 8 minutes later than our reservation time at 1:08. Tony our server was very friendly and amenable, especially when I was curious about the house rhubarb--he brought us a little to try along with the regular sides. Food overall 4/5: see breakdown below : Most of the sides were 5/5-the biscuits were buttery and soft, the mashed potatoes creamy and yummy, the sweet corn as you would expect, the creamy chicken noodle soup delectable. The boysenberry pie with ice cream on the side was scrumptious!! 3/5: The cabbage with ham was bland and overcooked (I guess I expected something like cole slaw). The house rhubarb was like a cross between apple sauce and cooked celery...ok but not my thing. What the heck happened??? My last review got 4 stars for excellant service and better food... today for my Father's Day meal, I decided I wanted to relive those good ol' days of Knott's Berry Farm Chicken dinner from the Past (right now the past is when I ate the chicken dinner from my last review... the past growing up is defunct and gone... now corporate and no longer family owned the quality, even the "Knott's" jelly is not longer made in house but is Smuker's or maybe Linn's up north... not the same) well... not good... once again the chicken breast was rubbery and dry... this time the rhubarb was plentiful but under cooked... hard and crunchy... not the texture you want for stewed rhubarb... some pieces were fine but other chunks were not cooked... same with the iconic cabbage... uncooked and still crunchy... where is the person in charge of making sure the food is prepared well???? I know it's run by another company (Six Flags) and the quality will change by people not knowing what Knott's "used" to taste like... but this was uneatable... had to return the chicken breast and got dark meat instead which was better... and replaced my cabbage for corn (Okay... but I come for the nostalgic flavors that only Knott's has...) I left the rhubarb... was tempted to tell the manager... the saving grace was the pie... still tasted like the old boysenberry pie... was amazed that the color and flavor was the same compared to the boysenberry jelly, which is not even close to the original... the first time I gave Knott's a one star, I was depressed and dissappointed because the bisquits and gravy were off... this time I'm used to having those bisquits and the mashed potatoes and gravy have grown on me and that was the best part of the meal... to be honest the chicken we got was fine... the funny thing is, that the two items I never thought there would ever be an issue was the rhubarb and the cabbage... so I am giving the one star because that was unforgivable and whoever sent that out was either new... had no idea how to make rhubarb or cabbage and thought undercooking those dishes was the "healthy" alternative... I'm upset... no... dissappointed how crummy something so iconic that actually was the reason for the Ghost Town in the first place was because the chicken dinner that Mrs. Knott's made was so good, Mr. Knott's made that town so the people waiting to get in had something to do... Quality control.... Management can you find someone to make sure food leaving the kitchen would at least make sure the food is done? Unexcuseable, really... That's my Father's Day review... will I return? You know what? I'm going to Knott's To Go and getting a side of gravy... taking that into the park and ordering chicken strips and mashed potatoes at Boardwalk BBQ instead... and if I want a slice of boysenberry pie, I will get that there too... so the answer to the question, will I return... What's there not to love about a traditional family style old fashioned fried chicken and yummy sides served in a traditional home styled cozy feel atmosphere ? Mrs. Knott's had a great idea and I'm glad she went for it. They serve delicious home made butter biscuits with delicious homemade jam that are so buttery and soft that you can eat 10 in one sitting lol It's one of the best chicken dinners. When I tell you that I LOVE this place, I mean it. As a kid, I never got to eat here because we did not have Mrs. Knott's money like that. But now that I have adult money and absolutely nobody can stop me, I'm here every couple of months. First, let's talk about the biscuits. If you're expecting a traditional biscuit, you're going to be confused. These things are some kind of magical hybrid between a dinner roll and a biscuit, and honestly, I don't care what category they fall into because they're delicious. And the soup? Elite. It's simple, but here's the move: tear up some biscuit pieces and throw them in the soup while you wait for your meal. Then add a little shredded chicken from your entrée. You're welcome. Now for the reason I'm only giving four stars. Our server, Chad (I think that was his name), was an absolute sweetheart. Very friendly. Very cute. Had a chest tattoo that I accidentally noticed because his shirt was unbuttoned. Anyways... This man was the golden retriever of servers. Every time we asked for something, he happily said he'd get it for us. And every time, that item disappeared into another dimension. Ranch? Gone. Extra napkins? Gone. Refill? Gone. At one point he told us he had asked another server to bring it, but whatever system they had going on was not working because we still never got half the things we requested. The funny thing is, he was so nice that it was hard to even be annoyed. But when you're missing all the little extras that make your meal complete, it definitely changes the experience. And I think the part that really got me was the ending. We ordered pies to go, and Chad gave us the wrong ones. I didn't discover this until I got home, excited and ready to enjoy my pie. The level of disappointment I felt opening that box cannot be overstated. It was like finding out your lottery ticket was one number off. Dang it, Chad. You had the game in the bag and just didn't finish strong. Will this stop me from coming back? Absolutely not. I wasn't visiting the park but wanted to have some Boysenberry soda and Fried Chicken. This restaurant is located right at the front of the park so you can go without a park ticket. There is a paid parking lot that gives you one hour free parking then after that, I believe it was i think $10 minimum. The inside was really huge and we made reservations ahead of time, but since it was the afternoon, it looks like it wasn't needed. The biscuits and jam were really good and of course I drank a whole bunch of Boysenberry soda. The fried chicken honestly I had higher hopes for. It was good, but I felt like it was a basic fried chicken and didn't have a lot of seasoning. I dipped it into the gravy but I was looking for more of a punch. I have fantastic memories of Mrs Knott's Chicken Dinner as a younger person. Candidly, I don't think it is as good now as it was 10-15 years ago. Service: Spotty. Maybe should have seen this coming. The restaurant was relatively empty at noon on Saturday, yet there was a 15 minute wait. Which was fine, there is plenty of comfortable seating in their farmhouse themed waiting area. The thing that bothered me the most was that after bringing salads, soups, biscuits and meals, no one came to clear our table. They just kept pushing dishes to the side to set down our pies. When we did ask, someone came and took an empty bowl of soup, and left all of the other dishes on the table. Food: just ok. Salads were nothing special. This place used to be good... they used to serve whipped boysenberry butter with warm baked biscuits.... Now they give watered down boysenberry preserve with cubes of butter packets . Our server checked on us twice ... because they are understaffed .... Bunch of tables available with the wait being an hour to hour in a half .... But not enough service. The restaurant is clean and organized but the restroom .... For the amount of space .... Is very small and crammed . The chicken appetizers were like frozen chicken patties , the berry salad had but a few berries and a splash of almonds .... Just slapped together. It's a shame that there aren't much decent eateries on the outside of the park , sadly it's not an appealing selection. I would recommend grab and go chicken rather than dinning at Mrs. Knotts . After a full morning at the Knott's theme park our family of four was excited to get a break from the heat and enjoy a good meal. We made reservations online, but there was plenty of seating when we arrived. The staff was attentive and helpful. We all ordered various versions of the fried chicken. The biscuits were buttery and delicious. And our server even gave us a slice of boysenberry pie to make sure we didn't miss out. Came to Mrs. Knott's chicken dinner restaurant with my girlfriend's meetup group for dinner before going to Knotts Scary Farm. 17 of us for dinner. Busy restaurant and several of our party was running behind so we were seated about half an hour after our reservation time. In a peculiar turn of events another reservation was added to our table without checking with my girlfriend whose reservation we were using. Our server appeared to have too many tables and seemed to be somewhat overwhelmed. She took drink orders, brought some of the drinks to the table but forgot others. Quite a while later she came back for our food orders. Once everyone had ordered the food came out reasonably quickly. There were 2 other staff members who assisted with service. After the dinner was cleared we were given our checks. Several people asked about dessert since most of our meals included pie. She assured us that we would get dessert after she finished processing our checks. After she picked up the checks she took our dessert orders. Then, according to a different server she went on break. He told us that he would need to see who was entitled to pie, after we'd already ordered. Then he said that he'd get our checks ready, but because we'd already paid and told him so he seemed quite confused and flustered. We eventually got everything straightened out and enjoyed our pie. But the confusion and slow service left us behind schedule to line up for Knotts scary farm to the point where the park was already open by the time we got in line. Overall the food was good and a pretty good value however the experience as a whole was decidedly underwhelming and frankly disappointing. I was really looking forward to trying Mrs Knotts chicken but when it was over I don't believe that I will return. 2 stars because the food was good. Located outside the park, you don't have to be attending the park to eat here. However, there is usually a wait - so plan accordingly! On a hot August afternoon the A/C felt great as we waited around 30 minutes for a table. Plenty of waiting room seating in a hallway. The restaurant itself also has a fair amount of indoor seating areas. Clean and in good order - this place has been in business a long time! Servers are always nice and helpful. Depending on what you're in the mood for, they have a good selection to choose from. They don't skimp on portions, but in most cases it's more than enough food. *Be aware they do have a slip plate fee if you plan to share a meal. Buttermilk Biscuits are amazing - first round is complimentary. I also love their Chicken Noodle Soup! Dinner Entrees and Dinner Specials come with a slice of pie. Childhood nostalgia and a craving for fried chicken led me back to Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner. We came on a Sunday night around 6pm. Parking was available in the metered lot and completely validated by the restaurant. There was a 45 minute wait upon arrival, which went by relatively quickly thanks to the various shops nearby.  One thing that was a little inconvenient was that we could not view our place in line during our wait. Upon checking in, we received a text that said "You're on the waitlist at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner. View waitlist:" with a link to OpenTable. However, the Opentable page only told us we were on the waitlist and did not tell us how many parties were in front of us. There was, however, a countdown to our "reservation" time which was surprisingly accurate.  The restaurant felt rustic like an antique farmhouse in the south. Martyn gave us great service. He continuously checked up on us and got us whatever we needed.  The food was ok. Definitely not as good as I remembered it was 10 years ago. The bread was decent, and I liked the boysenberry jam it came with. The appetizers were also pretty good. We got the onion rings and the fried mozzarella. The onion rings were served stacked on each other like a tower with ranch and bbq sauce. There were 4 pieces of fried mozzarella in one order. They were shaped like half moons and served with a tomato cheese sauce. But Mrs. Knott's famous fried chicken platter disappointed me. The pieces of fried chicken varied in quality. The drumstick and thigh were pretty good. They were crispy and moist. But the wing and breast were very dry. The kicker is that you have the option of ordering all white meat for an extra $5, but the pieces of white meat I received were significantly poorer in quality than the pieces of dark meat. This inconsistency was consistent across all plates at our table - everyone agreed that the breasts and wings were too dry. The mashed potatoes were good... on their own. But I was not a fan of the gravy on top. And the corn... was corn. You have the option of choosing corn or cabbage with ham. Only one of us got the cabbage with ham, and he wasn't exactly raving about it.  I will say that quality aside, the dinner entrees have pretty good value as they all come with soup, salad, and a slice of pie. Mrs. Knott's famous fried chicken platter, for example, was $26. We all opted for the boysenberry pie. The pie pastry was good, but the boysenberry filling... really needed like a scoop of ice cream or something on top. read more

Let's start with arrival. We came on a rainy day for lunch. A monday. No line. Seated right away. We we both got the chicken and dumplings dinner. Came with 2 sides. Chicken noodle soup and steamed cabbage were our choices. The cabbage was steamed with bits of ham in it. Really good. Added a little pepper for my taste. The noodle soup was to die for. The dumplings are a hit. I. Always get them. The fried chicken is awesome but didn't get it his time. The biscuits were boysenberry side is the best. Come and enjoy. read more

Visited Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner today and was very disappointed with the service from our waitress, Adrianne. While taking my order, she largely ignored me and would only make eye contact with the person I was dining with, which felt dismissive and uncomfortable. I understand the overly toasted bread may not have been her fault, but when I politely asked if it could be replaced, the new bread she brought out was even more burnt than the first batch. The good: We had a reservation and were seated right away. The chicken pot pie and chicken and dumplings were delicious! The portions are large and come with lots of sides. The bad: The chicken and waffle sliders come with a straight up Tyson chicken patty rather than fried chicken. It was very disappointing. Melinda absolutely made our visit. From the moment we walked in, I noticed how she greeted every single guest with a warm welcome & just as thoughtfully thanked them & wished them a great day on their way out. That kind of consistency doesn't go unnoticed. She was incredibly efficient--truly like a busy bee, moving from table to table without missing a beat. What stood out most was her attention to detail. She remembered the little things, like my request for extra ice, and even came back on her own to refill it when she noticed it was running low. That level of awareness is rare. Melinda was also genuinely polite--always responding with a sincere "you're welcome" & maintaining a friendly, upbeat presence the entire time. Even while helping cover other areas, she seemed to accomplish more than anyone else around her. As for the food, my Chicken & Dumplings was tasty overall, though the dumplings were a bit too large & dense for my personal preference, but definitely a dream come true for dumpling lovers. My husband enjoyed his chipotle chicken salad as well. The restaurant itself was clean & had a welcoming atmosphere, which made for a very pleasant dining experience. But truly, Melinda is the kind of server who elevates the entire visit--we'll definitely be back because of her. read more
