Nope...it's a five-star place when you can do a menu this well, and this diverse, wholesale. Loud bar or not, the service here is truly marvelous, and the food, every single time I've had it, just *hits*. There is SO MUCH MORE to the menu of this place than "bar food". They've got some *serious* talent in the kitchen, along with some darned good recipes. Here's a telltale sign: I really, really like their chili, and it has beans in it. Beans: the cardinal sin of chili. Now normally, I eschew any kind of chili with beans in it, because it pretty much always makes chili such a lousy, awful, uninspired dish. Here? Let's just say that this is the exception that proves the rule. I *like* their chili, all by itself, beans and all. It's even better when they bring some diced onions and even *more* legit when you ask for some of their not-to-be-taken-for-granted pico de gallo with it. Absolutely lovely, and I ate every little bit of it and took some home to-go with me (I didn't eat the cheese mix nor the sour cream that came with it, but they are, indeed, included). For $4 for a cup or $6 for a bowl, a basement bargain, indeed. I mean, did you catch what I just said there? Their kitchen is good enough to make me want to try and then actually *enjoy* something that I actively, philosophically dislike. That's some serious chops, that is. There's stuff on this menu that I'll be trying in the future that has no living right to be on a bar menu: various different Mexican and Asian inspired dishes that couldn't be farther from typical bar fare like the dreaded "mozzarella sticks", which thankfully are not here. They do have a good bar burger, they have (what I've been told are delicious) fish and chips, and so if you're dead-set on absolutely having some bar food, you can get that, too, and it'll be some pretty darned elevated versions of said stuff. It's the truly unexpected on the menu that really amazes, and the ability that they have to pull it off. That's what makes me so taken with the place. And they're open late on a Sunday night, with the kitchen open until 11PM. I'm so grateful to know that, pretty late, I can find really good, well-prepared food relatively close to me. Ordered curbside carry out. They have everything set up online and it's easy to use. Their patio is also open during the indoor dining shutdown, and it looked cute and busy while we were waiting in the car. Definitely one of the best burgers around. You can choose your meat, cheese, and tons of toppings and sauces. The garlic aioli is excellent. The burgers were huge, which is exactly what we were in the mood for. Highly recommend them for a solid burger. The only thing keeping me from five stars is the fries. Pro: they were crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Con: some were wet with grease so they weren't as delicious to eat. I just avoided those, and there were still more than enough fries for two of us in one order. We ordered truffle garlic Parmesan fries. If you love truffle, go for the truffle. Not all truffle fries I've ordered elsewhere are strong with truffle flavor, but Mt Chalet's definitely are. I think next time we'd try seasoned fries. Will definitely be back for more burgers!! read more

I've been here a couple of times and the food I've tried is very good. I've had the burger and chicken fingers (I think they make their own honey mustard and it is GOOD) and want to go back and try the nachos. I've been there twice and they are always busy which I do not mind. It means they are producing a good product. Waitstaff are attentive and polite. If you go there on a busy night maybe call your order ahead or get take out. Just plan to wait just a little longer than normal. Again, I don't think this is a bad thing. They nail it and the burger is honestly better than redcoat as of late. read more

This place used to be good but it is super dirty and filthy. The service was horrible btw. I will NOT be back. I was shocked that the waitress gave us such bad service considering I would come before and tip well and be nice all the time in the past. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. I had The Piedmontese, med rare. De-freakin-licious. My partner said the fish and chips were great. Our server worked her tail off and hit a home run with her beer suggestion when they were out of Zombie Killer. We were on the patio, which was fine at first but felt pretty crowded after a bit. The inside was much more cramped. If you are looking for airy, roomy, or quiet, this is not your place. Might be the best kept secret in the Woodward Corridor. Friendly wait staff, excellent food, warm environment and good prices. Then there is the specials. Always glance at the chalkboard when you walk in. The specials are fantastic. The pie's are made locally and always worth it. Personally, I think Chalets Mac and Cheese is the best in Michigan. Between 1-5 the food is 4. It is a good place to eat after restaurants close. Their kitchen is open to midnight during weekdays and 2am on Friday. The staff is very friendly and they set the tone of that place, good costumer service. I am rating 5 stars because of the customer service, open kitchen and good food. First time I served chicken tenders dinner and the breaded strips were not quite on my taste but my friends liked those!
