For U of R students, this is 5 stars compared to campus food. THEY HAVE REAL EGGS. You can even see the yolk in the center and egg whites on the outside depending on how you order them. This place must be the hangout for U of R's egg science faculty. Tables don't have gunk all over them and the plates/silverware is clean. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. They make the food a couple minutes after you order, and make it quickly, so it doesn't have that great aged-heat-lamp taste, but is still delicious. A whole breakfast here is cheaper than breakfast with campus dining monopoly money. ~$5-6 USD. Score 10% off when you show your student ID with RED sticker and pay cash. 10/10 For everyone else, it's a typical diner. The two biggest perks of coming here are the speed and low prices. Our food never takes more than 5-minutes to come out. Even when it's packed on weekends. I haven't tried lunch here, but their menu is extensive. I've seen some other customers with huge lunch plates, so I wouldn't mind trying this place out for lunch/dinner in the future. I went to go eat a late breakfast on Wed 11/9 at approx. 10:30am with my husband (we have been here before so we know what to expect) BUT boy were we in for a surprise this visit. I ordered what I had in the past "2 eggs, hash browns & toast", my husband ordered what he had in the past "2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, toast and french toast". My husband got everything he ordered but pancakes instead of french toast. He made a simple request to the waitress and she came out w/the French toast. No harm no foul, BUT a few seconds later I found a hair in my hash browns, which was clearly VISIBLE to the naked eye. Mentioned it to the waitress & she offered to get a new plate of just the hash browns. I requested for an entire new plate instead, which was against his better judgment but the waitress obliged. Upon receiving the bill my husband thought we wouldn't have to pay for the plate w/the hair in it but no. Not even the cup of coffee was offered as compensation. We will NEVER return there for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Be careful of what you're eating at this diner. It could have been a simple mistake but I think it could have been handled better to retain a customer base. read more

I 've never been before and heard good things. I was in the mood for Eggs Benedict so that's what I ordered. I got a short stack of pancakes just to they them too. Food came quickly. Nice. But the Eggs Benedict was terrible! The hollandaise sauce was flavorless and had a peculiar grainy texture. Unfortunately it ruined the whole dish for me. The pancakes, however made up that that. Was hungry and near the Mt. Hope diner Last Saturday so pulled in to a parking lot that was almost full. Went inside and the restaurant was busy and had a great vibe I was seated in about 30 seconds. About a minute and a half later there was a waitress at my table asking me if I wanted coffee and handing me a menu. After I decided what I wanted to eat and was waiting for the food I people watched all types of hungry people looking to have breakfast. Well my breakfast showed up I ate and my stomach was full and I was satisfied and ready to start my day. The check came and I was getting ready to pay and leave I put my hand in my pocket to get the cash I thought I had put four twenty dollar bills in my pocket before I left the house couldn't find the money,so I thought I must have left it home. I paid the guy at the register with my debit card and left. As I was walking across the parking lot to my truck the guy behind the register was in the parking lot calling me back. He handed me the fours twenties that fell out of my pocket and he found them in the booth were I was sitting. WoW ! I thanked him and he went back inside and I got in my truck. One of the best diners I've ever been to! Pancakes are fluffy. The waitresses are attentive, but don't annoyingly hover over you all the time, and there's student discounts if you pay with cash! Breakfast or brunch here after a night of partying might be one of the best hangover cures ever! Especially when it can cost under $3, depending on your order. Usual breakfast with coffee, pancakes, eggs, breakfast meat, and potatoes will probably run around $8. It's delicious, and I especially like that seasoning they have that I believe is labeled "HOT!" Adds an extra kick to the meal :) The only thing that sucks about this is that it isn't 24/7 like Jays is. But if it were, I'm sure it would be even more successful than Jays. read more

The place is well lit & porportioned in space. The bathrooms are kinda small & old fashioned but otherwise I can't complain. There's nothing like a great diner! The food and service here are both great. I will definitely revisit when in town.

Everything except the coffee and eggs was stone cold. French toast wasn't even warm enough to melt the soft butter. And this was at 9:30 on Sunday morning, when the lines are long at jines and charbroil. There was ample seating available (seat yourself), and the waitresses were very friendly. When we complained about the cold food, they just popped the plate into the microwave and gave it back to us...hey, leftovers at no charge! There is a reason that this place isn't busy for breakfast even when their prices are so low: the food is crappy. Won't be back. read more

This is the best family restaurant in town. I took my whole family there on Friday for dinner and 2 of us had fish fry, my nephews had chicken Parmesan and garbage plate style dishes, my dad had the NY 12oz steak medium rare. We all gave approval for the service and food. Fries was excellent and crispy. Would be back again when opportunity arise. Also, when you park after hours, it's good that you park in the light and close to the way people walk in and out frequently. My dad lost a cigarette box and a lighter. My husband and I are frequent visitors of the Mt Hope Diner. We love the breakfast specials. The prices are great and the food is very good.Mike, the owner, is very friendly and seems to be a really great guy. He's always there talking to the customers and making people feel at home. The only complaint we have would be the service. The wait staff delivers great to poor service pretty consistently and it's to bad because they make or break the experience. Classic diner menu and feel. Staff was friendly and you can tell this is a local favorite. Great variety on the "Specials" board. I had the fish fry, which featured a huge haddock fillet, french fries, coleslaw, and dinner roll. Well they forgot my dinner roll, The french fries were over-cooked, The fish fillet was tasteless.
