The dark gray E-bike Ali built

Ali was on time professional and put our EBike together perfectly we are very happy with his work. He's very knowledgeable as well we will use him for when we need our bikes serviced! Highly recommend!

The text convo I had with him because he tried to get me to pay for the chain I had provided that he had cut too short.

This experience was by far one of the most uncomfortable and frustrating that I have had seeking out professional services. My story: I have an electric bicycle (Super 73) that I needed a simple tune-up and I also had purchased a 10-speed kit for the bike that I needed installed. The 10-speed kit is not overly complicated, came with instructions including step by step video instructions, but I didn't have any of the tools and thought I'd like an expert to get it right. I found someone with a comment specifically saying he helped them with my exact bike so I reached out to him. How it went: He assured me he had experience working on E-bikes and specifically my brand of bike, had installed a 10-speed kit before on them, and it was not a problem. He was quick to respond, and showed up the same day on time. Where it all went wrong: He spent a long time doing the tune-up before getting started on the 10-speed kit. After some time he came in and said he didn't have a tool he needed to install the kit so he had to run out to a bike shop. I was easy going, no problem and said no worries. He came back after a long time and started working again. When he came back, he was visibly frustrated, he had obviously been smoking weed (not that I care unless it affects your work), and when he started working was being much rougher with his tools. In addition he asked me for MORE money because the install was harder than he had anticipated. He also needed my help which again I had no problem helping, even though I thought I was paying for his services. After he left, I had to clean up all his trash and pick up the old parts he had left in my driveway. The big stuff: He was smacking the frame with a hammer to make it fit, he dragged the bars on the concrete because he was banging so hard, he removed too many links in the chain I had bought, and basically made the bike unridable because the chain was too short to go through the gears. I tried to amicably discuss my dissatisfaction with the work and with the fact that he had self admitted to making a mistake with the chain. I also pointed out that I had specifically asked him to be careful with the paint and frame of my bike as I was working on it being a project bicycle. He didn't even acknowledge that part, but he said he would replace my chain and finish the work that next day. In addition to that, he had taken one of the gears of the 10-speed kit and thrown it away in a bush (I assume because he was struggling so much to get it in) and installed it with one less gear than it came with. This made the 10-speed cassette loose and with room to slide within the wheel. I was stunned when I found it and had to ask a neighbor who was a bicycle patrol police officer to help me uninstall the cassette, add the gear back on, and then reinstall the whole thing. I said I was uncomfortable with having paid him for what amounted to him ruining the kit I had bought and making the bike unrideable. He tried to tell me I could ride it, "just don't use the gears." He did come back the next day, with the wrong size chain again. He frankensteined two chains together (still leaving it one link too long) and when I again stated that he basically broken the specific chain for my kit and then replaced it with an incorrect sized chain, he said he would again be back to replace it with the correct chain. He never came back. The worst service, the worst work, and honestly the man should feel ashamed. Even after pointing out all his mistakes, him charging more than he quoted, and after admitting how bad he messed up, he tried to tell me I had to buy a new chain myself and then he would fix it which was the final straw. And obviously he never came back to finish the job and just took the money and ran. I have never written a review like this because I've never been treated like this. He is bad at his job, he will rip you off, and he has no shame in doing it. I hope this review keeps you from experiencing what I did.

Ali was great with a fast response on the job and with communication to figure out a time that worked for both.

"TOTAL SCAM - Damaged my bike and charged more than advertised -- very disappointing experience"…read more I normally don't leave negative reviews, but this experience needs to be shared. 1. Bike was returned with damage After picking up my e-bike, I noticed a deep scratch on the frame and marks on the Shimano Altus derailleur. It also appeared that someone attempted to cover up the scratch with paint instead of informing me. When I raised the issue, they denied responsibility. 2. Pricing does not match their website Their website clearly lists $30 per brake adjustment. I had both front and rear brakes adjusted, so the expected total should have been $60. However, I was initially told to pay $40 per brake ($80 total). Only after I showed them their own website pricing did they reduce the price by $10, and I ended up paying $70. The receipt reflects this "discount," which only happened after I pointed out the discrepancy. Even then, the final price was still higher than what is advertised. 3. Lack of transparency and accountability Between the unexplained damage and inconsistent pricing, this experience felt dishonest and unprofessional. I have documentation (website screenshot and receipt) to support this. I would recommend others double-check pricing in advance and inspect their bike carefully before leaving. **Update after owner response:** After reading the owner's reply, I want to clarify several key points for accuracy and transparency. First, the owner described my bike as a "one-year-old used bike," which is incorrect. I have proof of purchase from late December 2025 showing it was purchased brand new. I will be uploading documentation to support this. Misrepresenting a customer's property in a public response is concerning. Second, the claim that external parties (Beeline and Rad Power) concluded no damage was caused is presented without any supporting documentation. In contrast, I have maintained photo evidence and receipts. Readers can draw their own conclusions when only one side provides verifiable proof. Third, regarding pricing: regardless of internal explanations about brake types, the publicly listed pricing does not match what was initially quoted. The adjustment to the final bill only occurred after I referenced their website, and even then, the total remained inconsistent with advertised rates. Customers should be aware of this discrepancy and confirm all pricing clearly in writing before authorizing any work. It is also worth noting that the business now operates from a different type of location compared to its previous retail storefront. The current address appears to be within an industrial/business park rather than a traditional customer-facing retail shop. While this may be a business decision, customers may want to do additional due diligence regarding service scope, pricing structure, and business credentials before proceeding. At this point, the combination of inconsistent statements, lack of verifiable supporting evidence, and pricing discrepancies speaks for itself. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this shop to document their bike condition thoroughly before service and to confirm all pricing in writing in advance. For transparency, I have taken screenshots of the owner's response to preserve the original context in case any edits are made later. **Based on my experience, I would not feel comfortable returning.**

"We make people happy."…read more They sure do! I walked in last week as a first time customer and they were friendly and welcoming like I was a regular. Don in particular was quick to address my questions and needs, as well as very thorough in assessing the issues related to both my bikes. And prices for repairs and accessories were VERY reasonable. Will gladly return to Jax in the future!

I strongly advise against bringing your bicycle to Jax Bicycle Centers in Irvine, especially if you…read moreride high-end carbon equipment. I brought my meticulously maintained 2022 Trek Madone to this location for a standard tune-up. Through their mechanic's direct negligence, the rear derailleur failed catastrophically shortly after service, snapping a spoke and causing severe structural damage to the carbon rear dropout, rendering the bike unsafe to ride. Instead of taking accountability for destroying my property, the management team--specifically the owner, Dave Hanson, and the GM, David Hanson III--engaged in aggressive gaslighting and blame-shifting. When I requested they document their findings, the owner explicitly refused to communicate in writing. More concerning is their lack of ethics. In an attempt to push the liability for their mechanic's error onto a manufacturer warranty, Jax personnel logged into Trek's corporate system and actively altered my product registration data. When I eventually had to take them to small claims court to seek restitution, the General Manager made demonstrably false statements under oath, which the judge caught in real-time. Mistakes happen in bike shops, but the lengths this business will go to avoid taking responsibility for their errors is staggering. If you value your safety, your equipment, and basic business integrity, take your bike anywhere else.
