The menu options are a little confusing... For example, the taro milk tea doesn't actually have any taro or milk in it; it's flavor powder with non-dairy creamer. But the taro latte does have real mashed taro and whole milk (but no tea). In general, the various teas have good flavor, and you can add bubbles or red beans etc. We also got the wheel cakes, which are freshly made. The red bean one is very tasty. If you eat it right away, the outside is crisp and the inside is warm and soft. I waited until I got home to try the green tea mochi and custard cakes, and they were soft and mushy by then. I ordered a taro milk tea with pearls and asked for 75% sugar. Even with the sugar adjustment I still found the drink to be too sweet, so I would even go down to 50% next time. Other than that, the tea itself was okay. I liked the chewiness of the boba itself, and my bowels were especially thankful that all of the milk teas are actually lactose free! I had winter melon milk tea with bubbles my first time and the flavor was very subtle and bubbles tasted different from other places but nit as good . Tried the Oolong milk tea the second time with bubbles and bubbles were more in par with other spots but the tea itself wasn't spectacular. Tried some of my brother thai milk tea and it didn't really taste like Thai tea either. However, the one advantage that Mumu tea has over other bubble tea shops on campus is that it has a large study/ hang out space and is very instagram worthy (both drinks and space), although everything looked exactly as it did when Bambu was there. Quite frankly there is a lot of places that serve bubble teas in MN now. Is this place the best? No I don't think so, is there a better place, quite possibly, but will I return, unlikely. The Taro Ball Dessert is appropriately sized for the price, and comprised of taro balls, purple yam balls, sweet potato balls, crystal bubbles, azuki red beans, pudding, and herb based jelly. It balanced a savory under flavor with a sweet, light overtone. I was worried that the sweet would be too strong after reading what would come, but it wasn't an issue at all. It came with a sweet milk shot to put over it as well, which added another layer of richness to the dessert. I would definitely order this again--especially since it's going to last me a while. Lastly, the Salted Caramel Milk Tea. I got a large with added egg pudding. The texture of the pudding was smooth, but didn't come off as slimy in the tea. The tea itself was very caramel flavored, but the refreshing flavor of milk tea was still present. Back on my hunt for the best bubble tea spot in Minneapolis. This time, it's Mu Mu, a bubble tea shop that opened up very recently in the dinkytown area. Now in my opinion, a good bubble tea needs to have good flavor, quality tea, and solid toppings. This place delivers on all 3, and deliver them exceptionally well. When trying a new place, I always want to check out a fruit tea and a milk tea or something unique and here, I got the mixed berries four season tea and a the taro bubble latte. The four berries tea is exceptional, with a nice tea finish and strong berry flavors. They even have real berries in the drink, which is awesome. Most importantly, unlike a lot of other tea shop, the flavoring is subdued to let the tea flavor shine through, and so it's not too sweet but rather refreshing. Don't go into this expecting a lot of heavy artificial flavors! The taro bubble latte is also great. In this, it's taro paste that is spread around the cup and then a latte mix with Boba... Mix it up and enjoy a unique flavor experience... I look forward to trying the yam and sweet potato option in the future. I also got a vanilla wheel cake, which was amazing in taste but also rather expensive for it being so small. I thought it was bigger for how much it is but it's a 3 to 5 biters at best. Overall, mu mu is a great addition to an area already pretty saturated with bubble tea option. Basically sugar milk although I ordered this at 50% sugar. The tea is not strongly brewed at all. Too much creamer and it wasn't flavorful. - BOBA: Bland. Needs to be soaked in more honey, simple syrup, or brown sugar. It does have good qq texture, soft, and perfectly cooked. Just wished it was sweetened to add some flavor to this bland milk tea.
