Favorite restaurant in San Bernardino County. I have been dining there faithfully for a few years now.

This restaurant has poor customer service. We ordered a 1/2 chicken with fries and salad. She brought 1/4 chicken instead, I double checked with the waitress and she said she misunderstood. We asked if they can add more chicken to the order and she said no. It's already in the computer and the owner would get mad. To avoid further complications I ordered the 1/2 chicken to go. Instead she brought me the bill and I asked what happened to my order? She "misunderstood" again and thought we didn't want it, because my husband said so, but he didn't say anything about it. I left the restaurant empty handed. I can't recommend this restaurant with service like this. There are much better Peruvian restaurants around the area with much better service. read more

You have to ask for the piece of chicken they're willing to offer you or else they won't give it to you. I went in twice for pick up and asked for the 1/4 chicken breast. The man at the counter told me he couldn't give it to me because it would mess up his whole chicken. "What if someone wanted to buy the whole chicken?" he asked. So I left. Have you ever had this experience? I haven't. I was going to get the lomo saltado as well, which would have been a profit over the cost of a whole chicken, so business-wise, not selling me the chicken breast makes no sense. I notice that this man at the counter seems to always be pissed off. Go to Pollos Kikirikyi in Claremont instead. It's worth the drive and way better service. read more

Only reason they are getting one star is because I wanted to post a review. This place is usually really great and my food was still amazing but as my nephew was eating his food he stopped chewy and spit into a napkin. When I asked him what was wrong he said something is really hard.. I just thought is was a dry noodle but he did not believe it was that. He began to dig through the chewed up food and ended up finding a piece of a staple. When we got the owners attention about it she replied with "oh that was in your food" we wouldn't lie about it but she continued on with her conversation with another customer. When we were ready to pay the waitress asked us what had happened to our food we explained to her and she was like "oh". When she brought out our bill she explained that she had discounted our $1 rice but not the actual dinner plate. Will not be going back to this place. Scary experience. read more

The food is okay, but there service is terrible. We asked if one of the dishes had the option of chicken instead of beef and the response was, "It says on the menu." "No, actually it doesn't." "Yes, it's on the menu." "No, look right here." After a stubborn pause, he looks at the menu and sees it doesn't say anything about chicken for that dish. "Oh." He stares at us. "Yes, you can have chicken instead of beef." Expect this kind of service each visit. The meal was okay, so we asked how the alfajor cookies were. "They are incredible." There is a huge difference between liking the human qualities of a restaurant staff, and another completely thing: liking the culinary abilities of said staff. We drove long and far, based on the many positive reviews of Yelp users, and being avid admirers of Peruvian food, we really wanted to like the place called Mucho Gusto. The hostess/manager was a very personable lady, really a lot of fun, and we all agreed if the food was going to be anything like the positive personality of our host, we were probably in for a treat. The best thing to do here is to dissect all the food that was ordered and that arrived to our table. Bread: nicely sliced and softly toasted, together with their typical green sauce, is was an auspicious start. 4 Stars. Anticuchos Peruanos, $7.99. Two orders of this plate. These are made with beef heart, and in Peru are simply delicious, after being perfectly marinated and cooked on a live fire, they are offered in wooden skewers together with a spicy sauce, usually sliced potato grilled to perfection, and ready to eat. This version was not too shabby, although the beef heart was too chewy, but not bad for being so far away from Peru. 3.5 Stars. Ceviche Mixto, 2, at $14.99 each. Ceviche is a national treasure in Peru, and a place will make it or break it, by the quality and freshness of their ceviche. In theory this one consisted of white fish, variety of seafood, red onions, large corn, sweet potato, and of course the citrus juices that supposedly will cook the ceviche. First thing: way to expensive for what arrived to the table. Second thing: the fish was mushy, an indication that it had been resting in its citrus mix past the point of no return. The rest of the seafood very meager, and the shrimp included warm on the plate, while the citrus juice that comes with this plate, was bland, even though we ask for spicy, we did not get our wish, and the very worst thing about it, were the sweet potatoes that comes with this plate. They were so sweet that they had turned the citrus sweet, and when I asked our very nice server, she admitted that sugar is used to keep the sweet potatoes looking nice and orange. Ceviche and sugar, is like ice cream and salt, they do not mix, were not intended to mix, which turned this almost $15 a plate dish, into the worst memory now never to be repeated. So disappointed with this blunder, that all of a sudden I do not want to eat ceviche for at least 6 months, that is how mediocre the very expensive for what it was dish turned out to be. 1.5 Stars. Pescado a la Criolla, $10.99. This is a fried sliced piece of fish, not sure what kind, that comes with Peruvian rice (Peruvians make one of the best tasting rice in the civilized world), with a little onion salsa on the side. The fish was okey as it arrived warm and somewhat crispy. The rice was a monumental fiasco, for it was loaded with salt, so much in fact, that the lovely lady in our group who loves rice more than a Chinese after a hungry strike, did not even touch it after trying it. Curious as to why, I tried some, and after drinking a full glass of sad tasting water, I declared the rice inedible. 2 Stars. 2 Empanadas, $ 3 a piece. A sad excuse for an Empanada. Most who have tried well made Empanadas, would have right away discovered vital misses on these ones: one that the dough was basically sweet (what is up with this cook and sugar?!), second that the bottom was soaked in grease, third that besides this really dark ground beef, there seem to be nothing else added. Empanadas should have a filling of ground meat-if beef kind-pieces of boiled eggs, black olives, raisins some times, but these lacked finesse in the design and in the flavor department as a consequence. 2 Stars. Causa de Pollo, $6.99. A tasty Peruvian dish when done right, this one fell a little short of the mark by missing key ingredients, but edible never the less, and better than previous offerings. Still, not the best. 3 Stars. Peruvian Tamal, $7.99. Besides the exhorbitant price for this small tamale, it must be conceded that it was the revelation of the night. Excellent flavor, sadly they had run out of more, so we only got one, and among the 4 of us it was divided and truly enjoyed, for this Tamale had panache, and even at the price sold we all loved it. 4.5 Stars. Flan, $3.99. This is a dessert well known in the latin world, supposedly like a custard, but it takes know how to deliver a soft and enticing flan. This was was huge, but to our consternation tasted like a bad version of the ideal one. Extremely sweet, not soft at all, obviously made with lesser quality ingredients, and by a skill less preparer. Huge serving, with it would have been better. 2 Stars. The total bill was $93 plus gratuity, around $103. Great service, mediocre food at best. 2 Stars. read more

I was craving Peruvian food but didn't want to drive to Azusa to Mr pollo. So I saw this Peruvian place I showed the waitress what I wanted she was okay we can make that. I showed her pechuga de pollo a la plancha con white rice n salad. I don't eat dark meat only when I really hungry n don't have an option. Tell me why she brings my plate out it's the boneless leg n tight a la plancha. If she would of told me hey we don't have the breast chicken a la plancha I would of order something else. Nice place, good service and very clean. However, the quality of the lomo saltado, one of the most popular peruvian dishes, is mediocre at its best. I ordered it on two different occasions before deciding to write this review. The taste is nothing to write home about, the meat is really poor quality, hard and with lots of nerves that I had to pile on one side of my plate. This place is soooo good. I wish I knew about this place years ago! I went for the first time this summer to try a new genre of food, and I am amazed how good Peruvian food is! I have gone back almost a dozen times since June with each plate being uniquely different yet delicious. My favorite is PAPAREANA! (Excuse my spelling, I'm terrible with Spanish). Horrible service. Been to this place 3 times. The first time it was pretty disappointing. The food is ok, Mario's located in Hollywood is definitely worth the drive now compared to this local place. I always order the lomo Saltado which is decent if you're really in the mood but they seriously need some need waitress'. The first time the waitress served every customer there bread after their order was placed and completely forgot about our table. I had to ask her if the bread was only if a person placed an order and she looked at me with a blank look and said "Oh I didn't get you guys bread? Do you guys want some? I'm sorry..." And took forever to bring it. Very awkward. Then I asked her for a refill and never got it. The second time I went with my parents on a Friday evening around 6 pm and they were closed. Really? The hours say mon-fri 11-8pm. The third time I went the same waitress plus a new girl were there. One was worst than the other. They both were taking our order and bringing us our food so it was unclear who our waitress was. The girls seem very unexperienced and never great us. They never came to our table to check on us instead they spent all that time behind the counter giggling, laughing and talking instead of checking if we needed anything. I actually had to get up and ask them at the counter for more drinks and salsa. It seems like we're there to please them. It doesn't even feel comfortable asking them for anything because they aren't friendly or welcoming. Who would hire such unpleasant people?
