I love this store! I have no idea why I hadn't gone here before, but now I'll be a regular. My cat hit 10 just a couple of weeks ago and the vet recommended changing her diet, due to her age, being mostly indoor now, and slightly overweight. She's super finicky, so I was not looking forward burning through products until I found one she likes. No problem at Mud Bay! They have samples for a lot of the different brands, and where they don't, they're happy to comp if she doesn't like one or another. What a great service! And the folks at the store are so nice and accommodating about it. (And stress not about waste. Any unused product they'll take back and donate to a shelter.) Great shop. Now my go-to pet store. Right next to Trader Joe's makes it even more convenient. read more

One person brought me to a specific display area where two choices were available. I made my decision based on what this individual had to say about these products. PERFECT place to visit if you're a new pet owner. Last minute, my husband and I found out we're going to be cat parents overnight! What I was most impressed with was the pamphlets and check lists MudBay creates themselves to give in situations like this! Literally a plethora of info. (And not just for cats!!) Emma helped us pick out a few wet food options & provided all the necessary info for us. She was sooo helpful, we are very grateful. Mud bay allows 3 free can samples so you can make sure your cat likes one of them before buying a case! Also to note: you can return any products your animal doesn't like and mudbay will donate it to a shelter for another animal to enjoy. I thought that was awesome. We love it here. Prices are nearly the same as petco/pet smart despite being better quality. Having multiple people on staff to answer quite literally ANY question you have makes this superior to any other pet stores. Tip: you get a welcome coupon when you sign up for rewards! read more

I love Mud Bay. People have been recommending I go there for years. My dog has allergies, making it difficult to find food she can eat. And my cat is super picky. Mud Bay has SO many alternatives..:and they (the critters) BOTH love what we've been getting there. Customer service (which has become a 'non-thing' everywhere of late), is stellar at MB. They're SO helpful!! And their prices were quite surprising. Amazon isn't any cheaper. I far prefer shopping at a small, local business. Hence, my new critter store is Mud Bay! read more

Hello, my name is Andrew and I've been a customer for a few years. I've had a great relationship with MB for years. I've relied upon the staff for food recommendations, suggestions, and so much more. Really. The staff was incredibly close and supportive when my dear Lucy passed away at the age of 14. She was my caregiver and her portrait is at the top of the pet wall. I waited a long time before I could get a new friend to take into the shop without crying. I'm one of those old guys who doesn't attract a lot of attention except when I get a ride up to MB. Some of the folks I considered friends. Something changed. I walked in and was greeted with a very different store. Stuff was moved around and someone from "corporate" offering a canned and ridiculous blather. She even had a stopwatch of some kind to gauge the employee. I no longer feel comfortable going into MB. I am a customer not kind of new speak bullshit. I'm a retired union rep with 22 years of HR experience. I was also executive director and more. I had a reputation as tough and honest during my career. I would still be working except a rare disease took me out. I'll close with this: I will offer my services free of charge to ANY employee who needs it. Washington has good labor laws that protect workers. As much as I hate the idea of ordering food, treats and other needs for my new dog online I can't spend my SSDI money on a company that dislikes their employees so much. Andrew and Lily read more

My thoughtful neighbor gave me a generous gift card to Mud Bay Shoreline that I finally went in to use. Upon walking in, I could immediately tell that this small store has a Pacific Northwest-y vibe so majority of the items here aren't my dogs' style. The selection isn't too great. There isn't a wide variety of products. But that's ok with me. My dogs have tons of toys and what not from other places that are better aligned with their personalities and style. The employees were not friendly or interactive at all. They didn't bother to initiate a conversation nor did they ask me if I needed any help. But hey, we're in Seattle! So I wasn't surprised with the anti-social behavior and lack of quality customer service. I was, however, pleasantly surprised to have found a different brand of dog food for my dogs to try. They ended up loving it! :) Two pink collar lights also caught my eye. I am excited for my girls to use them for visibility when we go on dark evening walks. Ultimately, I am glad I came here to see what Mud Bay has to offer even if most of their products aren't well suited for my girly, outgoing, spunky dogs. I will definitely return to buy more of the dog food that they liked, though! read more

I don't have big expectations from a pet store but if I'm not going to petsmart or petco and coming here I expect to be helped without needing to seek staff all over the store. No one greeted me when I came in (which is fine) and not one person approached me the entire time I was looking for what I came to get. As a matter of fact one employee who was I think stocking the shelves actively avoided me. I understand things can get busy but they definitely choose who to help. I guess they deemed I didn't look like a dog person enough. I could only talk to someone when I already have an item at hand at the register. Also, they don't have a good selection of the items they carry, eg they only had a one kind of bully stick holder which isn't optimal for some dogs. I think I'm gonna take my business to all the best next time. They jump to help moment you get a confused look on your face. read more

I was in the area and needed more treatos for my boy. I saw that Mud Bay was a sponsor for Fremont Oktoberfest, which I'd been to the weekend prior, and thought I'd walk in. Mud Bay has a cuter vibe than most pet stores do. I brought my little one on lead, but he went a little nuts at all the smells. It's a lot smaller than Petco or any other pet store giant, and it's got more of a boutique feel. But, lots of yummy smells in close quarters, so my dog started to lose his mind. After doing a few commands to calm him down, a friendly employee came over to say hi. What I really appreciated was that she waited for a hot second for him to calm down, and for me to do my training bits. She only went to say hi after we were done, and talked to him in a calm voice so that he wouldn't get hyper again. The lady at the register was also very friendly. I do wish they stocked dog boots here though.(They had dog socks and dog sweaters/jackets). I generally hate ordering shoes online, and I'd like to be able to feel them before ordering. read more

This pet store is conveniently located near the Trader Joe's so if you want to grab groceries and also food for your pet, it is a two and one stop! I came here for chick starter feed for my chickens. Things are moderately priced. Actually, I thought things costed more than the chicken feed store that I go to, Portage Bay Grange. However, it is located in a more convenient location. A bag of starter feed costed about $27 and at Portage Bay Grange, it was $20. I guess for convenience, I paid the extra $7 or so dollars. The person working at the store was really nice. She gave me this card since I was a first time customer. Inside the card, there was a personal handwritten note that welcomed me to the store. There were also coupons inside. I greatly appreciated this extra touch of great customer service. She also offered to bring the chick feed to my car since it was really heavy. She walked me out and put the chick feed in my trunk. I would have given this store in itself (factoring price and store decor) 3 stars but the clerk went above and beyond. I was really surprised how nice and friendly they were. read more

I've wandered through a couple of times, but went in for my first actual "I need to get stuff for my dog" trip about a week ago. We just adopted a dog we'd been fostering for a few weeks, and had been stocked up with coupons, etc. from the shelter for Mud Bay. The staff here were so friendly and helpful! And not in the annoying or pushy way I'm used to when employees ask you if you need help. You can tell they're passionate about animals and about the products they sell, but they also know you know your pet the best. They were really happy about letting me use the coupons I brought in, and even helped me make the most out of them. They also sent me home with some more coupons and some free samples. I might not do all my regular shopping here (grad school budget...!) but I enjoyed my experience enough that I'll definitely be back to explore the wide variety of products they have, and have more fun interactions with the staff! read more

I love having a Mud Bay close to home. What makes it even better is the Trader Joe's next door. Two stops for the price of one parking spot! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were a great help when I needed something to help my dog with her skin flaking off due to her hypothyroidism. They greet everyone walking through the doors and offer the animals treats. When there are (inevitably) accidents, they wave off all apologies and offers help and bust out a big mop. I love seeing all the products and treats they have. My standard purchase is usually just the kibble, but this summerI bought some doggie ice cream cups for my pup for the hot weather and she loves it. Peanut butter and honey. (she only gets 1/4 cup for a serving). BTW, they will be closed on 9/12 due to an all staff training. I was told this was when everyone gets schooled on changes to current lines and all the new stuff Mud Bay will be stocking. The staff will come out even better after this training! read more

I don't live in the immediate area but I was picking up something and needed to pick up some groceries at Trader Joes and remembered that I needed some dog food for my little furbaby. I haven't lived in Seattle in about 3 years and just moved back and I remember an OK experience at the Mud Bay in Capitol Hill and went in (Since living in Denver and Santa Monica I have been at the mercery of PetSmart and PetCo-neither of which I am a fan of at all). I went in and I was instantly greeted with some nice hello's and was greeted by a fellow customers puppy (big white and fuzzy). Upon walking in the store is small but well stocked :). I ask someone for some help and very nice employee greeted me with an absolutely. My puppy is 16 years old and a chihuahua and she is blind and deaf (due to old age-she has walked into plenty of glass doors and waited in the bathroom to be fed) and so she relies on her nose which isn't as strong as it used to be to find her food bowl. Caitie (that is what it says on the receipt- she is a petite young lady with dark blonde hair and glasses) listened to what I was looking for and some of the things that were important to me and my dog. She offered suggestions of different foods and information and offered me some different samples of dog food and some different ways to prepare them for my little girl adding water or low sodium broth to make it softer and some "more smellier" types of food to attract my dog to help her find her food bowl on her own. I also bought a full size bag of some Wellness softer food upon her suggestion. She said I could return anything (of course within reason-don't be tacky and return an empty bag) if my dog refused to eat it (she has become a more finicky eater in her old age). It was a little more expensive but is my dog worth it ABSOLUTELY! (She doesn't ask for much and she'll accept any time love and hugs.) I got home that night and mixed some of the new food in with her current food and added a little broth and my dog slurped it up, and she kept on going back to the bowl for final licks!!! The next day she was waiting for me next to her bowl for her breakfast! The next few days have been so easy to feed her and she is so enjoying her new yummier meals. I live in Belltown (There is a Mud Bay literally the next block over and I am sure the service is great at that location) but guess what because of the wonderful service I received here at this location I'll be making a little trip to support this location-good customer service-a nice large parking lot and many options to choose from and I am in. Unparalleled service! Caitie was patient, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. I've actually moved recently, but still drive past two other Mudbay locations just to shop at the Shoreline store. This is the best stocked, and most knowledgeable location I've ever visited. Manager Chelsea has remembered me from past visits, and always goes out of her way to greet me. We love having a local Mud Bay store! We adopted a pup with suspected skin allergies and the staff at Mud Bay helped make recommendations for us for the best food options and treats that are safe for him to eat - ingredients wise. We love their selection of toys and treats, and the pricing here is honestly so much better than other large pet store chains (I know because I've stopped by them in a pinch when I'm closer and been really sad to see how much more expensive things are compared to what Mud Bay offers). Each time we come to the store we're greeted with smiling staff, they were thrilled to be able to cuddle our pit bull, Opie, and their suggestions have been awesome. We received a welcome card in the mail after our first visit that included some coupons to put towards future visits, too. I came in to get supplies for a new puppy and I had never been to this location before AND I was a bit nervous about getting puppy supplies, pretty much the last step towards this big commitment. The location is a bit smaller than the one I used to go to before moving up this way. Maria found me wandering around not quite finding the last thing I needed, arms awkwardly grasping my other purchases, and she grabbed me a basket and then helped me with play pens. She was super awesome and excited for my new family member and I showed her pictures and really we had a great time! All the while she was telling me about mud bay's return policy and various things they do for new pet owners and first time customers. It was really great. I went into Mud Bay Shoreline as a stray cat had somehow entered our garage and sprayed all over a leather motorcycle jacket! I called a dry cleaners who referred me to a specialty leather cleaning shop in downtown Seattle. The price was going to be well over $100 and they told me that they would need to keep the jacket for a month. Knowing quite a bit about Cats I decided to stop into Mud Bay to see if they had any enzyme spray (It basically breaks down the enzymes in cat urine). I was greeted by Crystal who took the time to show me my options. Crystal was very friendly and really seemed concerned and determined to help. I chose to purchase the item that she recommended and sure enough! NO MORE URINE SMELL!! I used the entire spray bottle allowing it to dry in between coats. The $600 jacket sat overnight and the next morning you would never know what happened! KUDOS to Crystal for saving the day! read more

A shout out to the local Shoreline Mudbay and Store Manager Lizzy. Walked in here in tears after chasing a lost dog (not mine) down Aurora Avenue, and losing my husband in the process. They sweetly let me use their phone to call for a pick up. An hour later, with the poor puppy safely cornered, and with no one else able to help us (we had tried every shelter, rescue, non-emergy police line and fire department in the area but no one would come help on a Sunday or they were tied up with more pressing calls) for a leash. They did one better. The store manager came out to meet me in the blazing sun with a leash and treats in tow. She then spent an hour working with me and my husband to coax the sweet baby out from behind a fence and into our truck. It was truly a team effort! We got her to a safe place to get her cleaned up and hopefully find her original owners or a new home. We have always trusted our neighborhood Mudbay for our dog's food and healthy treats, but today they showed me the character of their company and of the people they hire to represent their brand name. I am impressed and grateful. read more
